her motorcade rolled into san francisco and the fairmont hotel just about an hour ago. it's her first trip to her home turf since she became the democratic party's nominee for president. good evening. i'm j.r. stone. the vice president touched down at san francisco international

airport following an event in las vegas. she made the trip along with her running mate tim walz. this is a big time fundraiser that's going to bring in millions of dollars for her surging campaign. abc seven news reporter anser hassan is outside the fairmont tonight with a closer look. tomorrow's event unser. >> jr. good evening. you can see a lot of security here at this hotel. abc news has learned that the campaign has already raised $12 million from this fundraiser from the tickets that have been sold, tickets ranging from 3000 to $500,000. but some political scientists that we spoke to say money alone won't be enough to win in november, vice president kamala harris is coming home and bringing with her the presumptive vp pick, minnesota governor tim walz. many bay area politicians supporting them look as a californian could not be more proud, couldn't be more excited than the prospects of a president harris. >> i'm all in california. >> senator alex padilla speaking at an event in san francisco on

saturday, will be among the many looking to harris to lead the country for the next four years. like representative barbara lee, who spoke to abc seven news on friday. >> i'll be there and look forward to seeing her as she's doing a phenomenal job. and if we do the work, she will be the next president of the united states. >> from san francisco da to california attorney general to us senator and now vice president professor nolan higdon says harris is on friendly territory, tapping into a familiar and wealthy donor base. >> just two, three weeks ago, democrats, you know, assumed that donald trump was going to take the white house. there was a lot of fear within the party and the donor base that supports the party. >> professor higdon says harris is building on the enthusiasm her campaign has ignited, sparked by the addition of walls hoping to turn enthusiasm into donations. >> so harris, despite the fact that she had low approval ratings and there was a lot of doubt behind the scenes about her uh, she's seen as a, you know, a game changer. >> but not all are as enthusiastic protests are planned for sunday, led by pro-palestinian supporters who

have taken to the streets across the bay area for the past ten months. >> a lot of groups like the uncommitted movement and the abandoned biden movement are also really pushing her to come out with a policy platform that includes an arms embargo against israel to end the genocide in gaza. >> nadia rahman is a longtime political activist, previously leading the san francisco women's political committee. even volunteered for biden's 2020 campaign. she thinks harris and waltz can win, but she says they can't ignore the undecided voters and the swing states, which is what she says landed biden in trouble. >> money is not going to be the deciding factor in who becomes president following the november election. it's honestly going to come down to issues like the arms embargo with israel. >> campaign brunch kicks off pretty early. doors open at 9 a.m. protests are set to begin at ten. reporting live anser hassan abc seven news.

institution that's delighted customers for more than seven decades looks a little different today. plywood covers the big plate glass window in front of mitchell's ice cream on san jose avenue after burglars smashed their way inside yesterday morning. surveillance video captured the break in at 330 friday morning. co-owner linda mitchell says the crew failed to snap off a big padlock on the front door, so they use bolt cutters to bash their way into the ice cream shop. once inside, the burglars went straight for the money, so they went in through the window, went to the back, tried to steal the safe which is bolted down and they really left with nothing except a bag of cookies. >> so wow. >> mitchell believes it'll cost $5,000 to replace the big front window. the ice cream shop remains open despite the burglary. police tell us no arrests have been made. now to

the latest on the park fire. cal fire says the fourth largest wildfire in california history is now 37% contained. so far, more than 429,000 acres have burned in butte, tehama, shasta and plumas counties since flames ignited on july 24th east of chico. today, crews were able to add more containment lines with moderate fire activity, but officials say wind gusts between 20 to 25mph are forecasted for tomorrow afternoon, which could challenge crews in some areas in the sierra foothills. better weather conditions have allowed firefighters to gain ground on the crosier fire. it is northeast of placerville. containment is up to 14% tonight. it has burned nearly 2000 acres so far. cal fire says the flames are difficult to get to because of the steep and rugged terrain. several towns remained under an evacuation order. so far, no buildings have

been damaged or destroyed. smoke from wildfires drifting to the bay area, and that has led to an air quality advisory being extended. spencer christian is here with a closer look at this. >> yeah jr it's not a it's not a spare the air alert which is good news. it's an air quality advisory as you said. so there's been some decline in our air quality because of the smoke. not only from northern california wildfires but also from wildfires in western canada. so, as you pointed out, it's been extended through tomorrow now. but we have good to moderate air quality, which is encouraging. we don't have poor air quality. and as you can see on the air quality map here, the yellow and the green dots indicating moderate to good air quality, that's expected to continue into tomorrow. but as you look at the surface smoke animation, you can see the heavier concentration of dense concentration of smoke is well to our north, but some smoke nonetheless is moving through the bay area and will continue to do so through tomorrow. but it will be a light increase in the concentration of smoke here, and that's helped by the onshore

flow of winds we have right now. pushing a lot of that smoke to our east. so through tomorrow and into monday, we expect an improvement in our air quality here and i'll also have a look at our accuweather seven day forecast coming up a little bit later. >> j.r. good news to hear. thanks so much, spencer. day two of the outside lands music festival just wrapped up a short time ago in san francisco's golden gate park. there's a little bit of everything, and that goes beyond the acts. people will see on stage, from food and beverages to even marriages. abc seven news reporter tara campbell got an up close look at what's going on inside. outside lands, people pouring into golden gate park. >> the music pumping and the bottles popping. >> this is my first time back at outside land since i think 2018, so i just haven't been for a while. and it's the hometown festival, so i wanted to come check it out. >> saturday, marking day two of the three day festival, expecting to draw 75,000 people each day. traffic delays also expected. >> thankfully i used public

criminal charges for shutting down the golden gate bridge. san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins issued arrest warrants for the group this morning. they face charges including false imprisonment, conspiracy, trespassing and more. jenkins says eight of the protesters believed to be involved in the planning of the demonstration are facing felony charges. the protests shut down the golden gate bridge for hours back in april. jenkins says her office heard from three dozen people who were trapped for hours, including a person with a brain tumor who missed a medical appointment and a mom with her baby who had no water for formula. >> we need to make sure that when we advocate, when we engage

in our free speech rights, that we're doing it in a safe manner. we cannot obstruct people's ability to of movement, certainly not for hours at a time. >> jenkins says the protests likely cost the bridge $162,000 in lost revenue. the protesters must surrender by monday. we're getting an inside look tonight as caltrain debuts its cutting edge electric fleet. the new trains represent a landmark shift towards faster, cleaner public transit, helping to fight climate change and build a better bay area. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard has reaction from the first riders of the new fleet. three, two. >> nancy pelosi and governor gavin newsom cutting the ribbon on a new, faster, cleaner commute. caltrain powering up and showing off its new electric fleet of trains. oh the $2 billion electrification project

>> i'm really glad we're going in the way of electric with such a smooth ride. >> beautiful new seats, beautiful bathrooms, wi-fi, amazing. >> starting on sunday, the public gets to ride caltrain says the fleet will be fully electric by next month in san francisco. cornell, bernard abc seven news. >> there was a special ceremony in the south bay tonight celebrating two rosie, the riveters. history park in san jose is presenting them with commemorative coins of the congressional gold medal. the main ceremony in washington, d.c, happened back in april. it honored the contributions of millions of women during world war two. the rosies worked in factories and shipyards to support the nation, while many of their brothers, fathers and husbands were fighting abroad. the actual congressional gold medal is at the smithsonian, joined right now by spencer christian. you know, hats off to all those rosie the riveters. >> they are truly a national treasure and we should treasure them, because that's a generation that is not going to

be with us forever. you know? >> certainly is. as for the weather situation, what's it looking like? >> things are looking up. if you're looking for cooler weather. >> always the optimistic one. >> i try to be. i used to look at the satellite radar composite image and notice the absence of a low clouds at the coast. we typically when we have a cooling trend like this one, expect to see the fog rather deep there. but at the moment not much evidence of it. we have a nice brisk onshore flow winds generally ten to about 20mph, but we do expect the marine layer to rebuild during the wee hours of the morning. it's now we're going into a cooling tren, but it's interesting that most locations are warmer right now than they were at this time last night. anywhere from two to about ten degrees warmer. so let's move along. this is the view from the exploratorium camera. looking back at a portion of the san francisco skyline, where it's 57 degrees right now, here in the city, we've got low 60s across the bay in oakland looking northward, 61 up at santa rosa, 55 at petaluma. we've got low to mid 60s at napa and fairfield, 71, concord 67 at livermore. and

this is a view from mount tam. now there is a little finger of fog moving out over the bay, but it's very thin and it's very skinny. so it doesn't cover much territory. but it'll get deeper as we get into the late night. and overnight hours. so these are the forecast headlines overnight. low coastal low clouds and drizzle will develop tomorrow. breezy and much cooler than today. despite the warmer pattern right now than we had last night. and early next week, the cooler pattern continues into pretty much the end of next week, so it's going to be a week of very comfortable weather. no extreme temperatures at all. so the forecast animation overnight shows a few high clouds passing over, a little patchy drizzle developing, and then by between 6 and 8 a.m. we'll see the marine layer deepening and expanding a bit out across the bay, and the drizzle continues in patchy form until about mid-morning, and then that will wind down. the clouds will thin out and we'll get mainly sunny skies in the afternoon. during the overnight hours, look for low temperatures, mainly in the mid to upper 50s and over in the inland east bay. antioch will bottom out at about 66 degrees,

which is pretty warm for an overnight reading down in san jose. also, a low of 62 degrees, but 50s just about everywhere else. highs tomorrow 62. half moon bay 65. here in san francisco, upper 60s to low 70s. around the remainder of the bay shoreline up in the north bay. we'll see highs of 76 at napa, which is a pretty cool high 87 santa rosa mid to upper 80s in the inland east bay. now as you look at the forecast animation or the maximum temperature trend, i should say going into next week, monday, pretty much the same range of highs we expect tomorrow low to mid 80s inland, no 90s pretty much the same thing on tuesday. finally on wednesday we might see 1 or 2 locations topping out at about 90 degrees. but again, this doesn't represent any significant increase in the temperature pattern. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. got a couple of days of high temperatures inland, maybe reaching 90 degrees and then back down into the mid to upper 80s on friday and saturday. so it's going to be a very pleasant week ahead with mainly sunny skies in the afternoon. the usual morning, low clouds

in brazil, following that terrifying crash of an airliner over sao paulo and a sao paulo suburb that is friends and family. of those killed on board today began identifying the remains of their loved ones. abc news reporter morgan norwood has the latest on the investigation. >> reporter tonight, stunning new video of that plane and a flat spin falling from the sky deals crashing into a suburban

sao paulo neighborhood and bursting into flames, killing all 62 people on board is to. tonight, investigators combing through the plane's voice and flight data recorders to investigate why the 14 year old atr 72 twin engine turboprop went down. >> the cockpit voice recorder can, in many instances, give us the information on what was going on between the two crew members and what was happening to the airplane noise. >> now, the head of brazil's air accident investigation says the aircraft didn't declare an emergency. >> the plane took off from cascavel and crashed in vinhedo, about 50 miles northwest of sao paulo. among the victims, two trainee doctors, the cancer hospital in cascavel telling abc news camila oliveira. duarte de araujo says she lost her cousin. his mother is torn apart. she says he was a very good man and very loved and cruz so far recovering at least 26 bodies. and to identify them, they're relying on documents, seating charts and cell phones at the scene. i'm morgan norwood, abc

news, new york. >> the fbi is investigating the discovery of improvised explosive devices found throughout the island of maui. one of them went off, blowing out windows on a passing car and denting the exterior. >> they say that that i often ride over here. >> federal agents and maui police say they've found several devices concealed in makeshift baskets across the hawaiian island. residents have been asked to stay alert just a few days ago, locals on the island marked the two year anniversary of the deadly wildfires that devastated the northwest coast. back in california, more than 100 neglected animals were rescued from a property in riverside county this week. the animals ran the gamut to include horses, goats, chickens, exotic birds and dogs. there were even pet cockroaches. a sheriff's deputy who was conducting evacuations of homes nearby spotted the property. county

animal services say they will seek felony animal cruelty charges against the property owner. the nfl is underway. the preseason that is, there were preseason games being played tonight, including the 40 niners and with the new season comes new tech as abc seven news reporter lauren martinez shows us it's the future of the modern sports experience. >> the nfl league office is rolling out facial ticketing for credentialed people. they've teamed up with the company wicked, a facial authentication platform provider. ceo jeff beam tells us. wicked started in the height of covid when the cleveland browns were looking for a way to get fans in instead of manual barcode scanning. fans who have enrolled can show their face to validate their ticket. >> fans opt in to use this solution in order to gain the convenience of faster access to a stadium, or even faster concessions, or faster access to an event, beam said.
