politicians supporting them look as a californian. >> couldn't be more proud, couldn't be more excited than the prospects of a president harris. i'm all in california. >> senator alex padilla speaking at an event in san francisco on saturday, will be among the many looking to harris to lead the country for the next four years. like representative barbara lee, who spoke to abc seven news on friday, i'll be there and look forward to seeing her as she's doing a phenomenal job and if we do the work, she will be the next president of the united states. from san francisco da to california, attorney general to u.s. senator and now vice president, professor nolan higdon says harris is on friendly territory, tapping into a familiar and wealthy donor base. >> just two three weeks ago, democrats, you know, assumed that donald trump was going to take the white house. there was a lot of fear within the party and the donor base that supports the party. >> professor higdon says harris is building on the enthusiasm her campaign has ignited, sparked by the addition of walls hoping to turn enthusiasm into donations. >> so harris, despite the fact that she had low approval

ratings and there was a lot of doubt behind the scenes about her uh, she's seen as a, you know, a game changer. >> but not all are as enthusiastic. protests are planned for sunday, led by pro-palestinian supporters who have taken to the streets across the bay area for the past ten months. >> a lot of groups like the uncommitted movement and the abandoned biden movement are also really pushing her to come out with a policy platform that includes an arms embargo against israel to end the genocide in gaza. >> nadia rahman is a longtime political activist, previously leading the san francisco women's political committee. even volunteer for biden's 2020 campaign. she thinks harris and waltz can win, but she says they can't ignore the undecided voters and the swing states, which is what she says landed biden in trouble. >> money is not going to be the deciding factor in who becomes president following the november election. it's honestly going to come down to issues like the arms embargo with israel.

>> anser hassan. abc seven news. >> and doors open at 9 a.m. for the fundraiser brunch. the protests are expected to begin at 10 a.m, and this is the first time harris has been in the bay area since she was declared the democratic party's nominee for president. harris has pledged to work to eliminate taxes on tips paid to restaurant and other service industry employees. this was during her saturday campaign stop in las vegas, and it echoes a similar pledge by her opponent, republican donald trump. it's a rare moment of political overlap between the two candidates. trump is accusing harris of copying his pledge. speaking of the former president, a spokesperson for his campaign says someone hacked the republican nominee's political operation, politico reports. it received emails from an anonymous account with documents from inside trump's campaign. campaign spokesperson said that foreign sources hostile to the u.s. illegally obtained the documents. the campaign is citing a report by microsoft on a phishing scheme targeting a high ranking official. microsoftnf irmed that the trump

campaign was the target of the hack, and trump's running mate, jd vance will appear on abc's this week. this morning. here's a quick preview. it's showing how he responded when asked if vice presidential picks matter. >> most people, 99% of the country, they don't vote on who the vice presidential nominee. >> they're voting for donald trump or for kamala harris, not for jd or tim walt. right. but what i think that he does believe, because he made it the main focus of his vetting process, is do i think this person can be president on day one if, god forbid, something happens? yes. so i absolutely am sure that donald trump is confident in my abilities. i also think that he's right that the politics of this really don't matter that much. >> you can catch the entire interview with jd vance this morning on this week that starts at 8 a.m. a popular san francisco ice cream shop is boarded up this morning after burglars broke into the store. surveillance video captured the break in at mitchell's ice cream on san jose avenue around 330 friday morning. co-owner linda mitchell says the suspects failed to take off a padlock on

the front door, so they used bolt cutters to bash their way into the shop instead. once inside, the burglars went straight for the money, so they went in through the window, went to the back, tried to steal the safe which is bolted down, and they really left with nothing except a bag of cookies. >> so mitchell believes it'll cost $5,000 to replace that big front window there. >> the ice cream shop remains open despite the burglary. police tell us no arrests have been made. new developments in the pro-palestinian protests that shut down the golden gate bridge for hours. 26 people are now facing criminal charges in that case. that happened back in the spring. now, san francisco d.a. brooke jenkins issued warrants for the group yesterday. arrest warrants they face charges including false imprisonment, conspiracy and trespassing. jenkins says eight of the protesters believed to be involved in the planning of the

demonstration are facing felony charges. jenkins says her office heard from three dozen people who were trapped for hours, including a person with a brain tumor who missed a medical appointment and a mom with her baby who had no water for formula. >> we need to make sure that when we advocate, when we engage in our free speech rights, that we're doing it in a safe manner. we cannot obstruct people's ability to of movement. certainly not for hours at a time. >> now, jenkins says the protests, which happened in april, will likely cost the bridge $162,000 in lost revenue. the protesters must surrender by tomorrow. new developments. a jury has convicted a former antioch police officer of wire fraud and conspiracy for his role in a college degree scam. that's according to our partners at the east bay times. prosecutors say morteza amiri paid a woman to take college courses for him so he could get education related pay raises. he faces up to 20 years in prison. the fbi began investigating him

dishwashers, servers, bartenders and bell attendants. they've only authorized the strike. it does not necessarily mean a strike will take place. well, the dreamy coastal town of carmel by the sea is known for not having street addresses, but there's a push to change that. after decades without them, a city council vote last month has decided to add street names and numbers to homes in the one square mile neighborhood. local law enforcement and fire officials told residents it's a safety issue during emergencies. they also don't get mail delivery service. every resident has to pick up their mail from the post office. >> i just don't think it's necessary. i mean, honestly, we've lived this way for 100 years. we don't need them. >> i'm in favor of it because of delivery issues. uber will work better. the ambulances will be able to find us. when i have a heart attack. >> that's an interesting talker there. in november, residents will be voting for city council members and a mayor who will determine the fate of whether to give residents addresses. all right. we're getting an inside

dramatically from weekday commutes to weekends. tumlin says downtown rail ridership is at about 55% of pre-covid levels, but certain bus lines like the 49 down van ness and the 22 on fillmore are seeing huge surges 140% of pre-covid levels. tumlin says on weekends that surge hits 200%. as a result, the sfmta is adjusting schedules every 4 to 6 months to try and keep up. >> as far as i know, we're the only agency in the country that is making this frequent of complete rebuilding of our schedule, chasing the data and the changing travel patterns. >> tumlin says they're trying to prioritize evenings, weekends and even midday for their schedules because that's where they're seeing demand. now, the latest on the park fire. cal fire says the fourth largest wildfire in california history is now 37% contained. so far, more than 429,000 acres have burned in butte, tehama, shasta and plumas counties. that fire

started on july 24th, east of chico. crews say they added more containment lines with moderate fire activity yesterday, but officials say wind gusts between 20 to 25mph are forecast this afternoon, which could challenge crews in some areas and in the sierra foothills. better weather conditions are helping firefighters fight the crosier fire, which is northeast of placerville. containment is up to 14%, and it's burned nearly 2000 acres. cal fire says the flames are difficult to get to because of the steep and rugged terrain. several towns remain under an evacuation order. no buildings have been damaged or destroyed. now let's get to meteorologist lisa argen. lisa, hopefully the weather today will be better for firefighters. help them out with some of those conditions out there, because we know that they always have to battle against conditions, rough terrain and stuff, but can't control the weather. >> right. and you know, we have had the marine layer helping with the relative humidity at the surface, but it's at the upper elevations where we're still quite dry. in fact, just

20%, a little bit over 20% for us above 2000ft. so that's pretty dry. and we're going to get another area of low pressure that is going to enhance the winds. and so already a fire weather watch for nevada nevada i should say in the western side where we're going to see those winds gusting to over 30 miles an hour. and that will keep the bay area breezy as well. so even though we're cool, we still have wind that's going to be with us. the next day or so. enhanced wind because of the area of low pressure. and that will continue to dry things out. certainly in the upper elevations. so we are always on fire. watch here. and as we get into your sunday, you'll notice that the southwest flow here, allowing for some cloud cover that will be part of our forecast today. right now it is 59, in hayward, 53 in sonoma with 64 in brentwood. the view from mount tam there, the sun coming up in about another hour or so, less than that. coastal low clouds drizzle at the coast. it's breezy and much cooler

today out there. as much as ten degrees cooler. we had a few 90s in our inland valleys yesterday. today, mid 80s for the warmest inland valleys. and looking at this cooler pattern to continue into early next week, we'll bump up the temperatures just a couple of degrees as we get into about the wednesday time frame. but look at all the clouds. this is 1130 and we have some sun certainly out there, but still some higher clouds streaming in throughout the afternoon. so we'll call it partly cloudy. and then as we get into the evening hours tonight, you'll notice that the fog pushing back. this is tomorrow morning. and then we'll get into a sunny afternoon. tomorrow is when we get that weak system that's going to kick up the winds and allow for some fire danger conditions to be more enhanced as we get into the higher terrain there. so we'll watch that. but as for high temperatures, this is the subtle warm up that we have coming our way midweek. some low 90s by the delta. really nothing too extreme, nothing really. that's out of the usual out of the norm

police chief william scott say crime is down, in part because police are using them. abc seven news reporter luz pena tells us how the city plans to expand the program. >> they are the new eyes in the sky. san francisco police officers are using from crime scenes and minutes later, leading officers directly to an arrest. >> drones have already assisted sfpd in numerous cases, including a sexual assault suspect that was arrested, several auto burglary suspects that were arrested earlier this year. >> san francisco voters approved mayor breed's proposition e, allowing for the use of surveillance cameras and drones to pursue suspects. now, their first data points are out. police say these drones are working, confirming the arrests of several suspects. drones

caught. >> we have a sense of urgency to make this a safe city and to do the things that the people in this city deserve, san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins said. >> these videos were key to prosecute these suspects as a result of that arrest and that footage, we were able to file auto burglary charges on individuals who, quite frankly, two of them are repeat offenders of crime. so far, sfpd only deploys the drones after receiving intel of a potential crime in progress. but the plan is to expand the use of drones in problematic areas around the city to get the resources and equipment to the area that's being impacted by crime, and to deploy from areas that are impacted. >> that's certainly one of the strategies the use of drones by law enforcement is concerning for the electronic frontier foundation is disturbing that sfpd hasn't publicly released its policy related to the

a much cooler day out there. below average at the coast. don't expect any sun. in fact, mist and drizzle right now. temperatures in the lower 60s. so we'll talk about the cooldown continuing to start the work week coming up. zach okay, lisa. >> thank you. new developments rescue teams in brazil have retrieved the remains of all 62 people who died when a plane fell from the sky yesterday, families started gathering where the crash happened in sao paulo to identify and bury their loved ones. brazil's president declared three days of mourning in response to the incident. that terrifying video you're seeing shows the 72 twin engine turboprop falling from the sky friday. authorities say the aircraft never declared an emergency. the airline has not said what may have caused the crash. the fbi is investigating improvised explosive devices found throughout the island of maui. an improvised explosive device could be a homemade bomb or devices that could be destructive, and one of them went off blowing out windows on a passing car. federal agents

and maui police say they found several of them concealed in makeshift baskets across the island. residents have been asked to stay alert. just a few days ago, a maui marked the first anniversary of the deadly wildfires that devastated the northwest coast. starting soon, all new u.s. troops will go through cognitive testing in order to more easily diagnose brain trauma later on. the pentagon says it will also put more distance between personnel and weapons blasts during training exercises. the overall push for brain health comes nine months after an army reservist named robert card went on a shooting rampage in maine. he killed 18 people. a post mortem study of card's brain found it was, quote, likely he had a traumatic brain injury. dozens of people living in rvs parked on zoo road in san francisco must be moved off that street by today, authorities began citing vehicles parked on zoo road last week, and owners are upset, telling abc seven news they don't know where else to go. some of these vehicles at zoo road came from winston drive

between lake merced and stonestown galleria, where they were parked for a long time. they were ordered to move ahead of a repaving project scheduled for next month. from the i-team, a 72 year old former bay area home depot employee is suing the retailer for age discrimination and wrongful termination. it comes after she was fired for failing to stop fraudulent purchases of about $5,000. abc seven news i-team reporter melanie woodrow has the story. >> your phenomenal in every way. we are grateful to have you. >> during her seven years working as a cashier at the san ramon home depot, carlene acevedo says she won multiple awards for exceptional service, including cashier of the year in 2021. >> i loved working there, but last july, home depot fired acevedo after she rung up for fraudulent transactions, resulting in a more than $5,000 loss for home depot. >> i was so upset, i just i just wanted to get out of there. >> i was, i was i never, never been fired before. >> acevedo says she was working

alone in the garden center when a man approached her cash register with a card that had written instructions on the back to process the transaction. as cash. she rung up a purchase for a little more than $1,300. the card was suspicious. >> it was very suspicious, but i went ahead and ran it approximately 30 minutes later, she says. >> the customer returned. >> and then i knew for sure that he was targeting me because i was alone. >> acevedo says she tried to call her supervisor the head cashier, but no one answered. >> he was demanding he wanted the transaction done as fast as possible. he got upset when i made the phone call to my manager. i was scared. >> according to her termination letter, acevedo ran three additional separate transactions as cash, this time for more than $4,000. she says she kept duplicate copies of the receipts that she took to her manager. >> four days later, i got fired. >> the incident happened three months after pleasanton home depot lost prevention officer blake mose was shot and killed while trying to stop a theft

attempt, a story acevedo was familiar with. it was devastating. >> i mean, it was sad. >> acevedo says as an employee, she received annual computer based training by home depot on what to do in the event of a shoplifting or active shooter. what were you instructed to do? >> i was instructed not to do a thing. do not approach. do not touch. do not try to uh- dissuade not to interfere. just let them go. >> she was doing everything she could. she asked for backup. she's making copies of the receipt. you know she can't risk her life for merchandise. and employees are explicitly taught not to risk their life for merchandise. >> acevedo's attorney, benton hayes, also questions the timing of her termination, according to the lawsuit. six months prior, acevedo learned a teenage new hire at the store had a starting salary of $21. an hour. acevedo, who was 70 at the time and had been working at home depot for seven years, was making $20.17 an hour, she complained, and the following month received a $2 raise. >> they really just wanted an excuse to terminate her the

ninth. a's win one nothing as four pitchers combine on a two hit shutout. and that is morning sports. now back to you. >> thank you j.r. let's get a check now of the bay area forecast with meteorologist lisa argen. >> all right good morning to you. we're looking at those clouds streaming in from the southwest. and a cooler pattern as our onshore flow increases. today high pressure is weakening. and that's going to bring temperatures down at least ten degrees. we were in the mid 90s yesterday in our inland valleys. and today certainly a big cool down. there's a look at the shark tank. and you can see the deck of low clouds. they're still dark looking at 54 san francisco 57 in oakland 59 in hayward at 61, in san jose with 57. redwood city and a view from our roof camera. the breeze kicks up throughout the day today, and those breezy onshore winds making it through the

delta. so we'll have temperatures coming down significantly. and in fact, we'll get a little bit gusty later on in the day. 53 santa rosa. it is 52 in petaluma with upper 50s there by the delta that southwest wind kicking up. and it is 60 in concord. livermore 57 our exploratorium camera in the background with the low hanging fog. we have mist and drizzle at the coast this morning, and it is going to stay pretty cool there with the clouds. so yesterday we climbed through the upper 60s, today more like low to mid 60s with breezier winds and less sun out there. we'll experience the cooler conditions not only inland but around the bay as well. so just topping out around 70 in hayward today, upper 60s in oakland and then into early next week. the cooler pattern continues. looks like we'll see a little bit of a bump up come midweek, but really nothing to write home about. and then cooler weather as we get in to the weekend. so one of the factors will be the cloud cover as we get into about 1130, you notice it's sunny in the north

bay. we have clouds across the bay scattered about on the peninsula, stopping this at 330 and still looking at the mostly cloudy conditions. the marine layer back full force through the delta into your monday. it pulls back throughout the afternoon, the winds kicking up monday afternoon because we have another feature coming in from the pacific northwest. and that will provide, unfortunately maybe ripe fire conditions for the sierra nevada. but for the bay area, just breezy conditions. there's a look at our winds as we get through the afternoon today. 1:00 until about the 4:00 or 5:00 time frame, and you'll notice that the wind gusts over 30 miles an hour there. so certainly a cooler day out there. 80 in santa clara today. look for 77 in sunnyvale on the peninsula, some low 70s for you with 72 palo alto, the clouds clinging to the san mateo coast here, low 60s in the sunset. 65 downtown up in the north bay, you can see the low 80s from santa rosa,

calistoga at 80 upper 60s. for you, it's a cooler day in oakland with 72 in union city and the breeze kicking in with low 80s in pleasanton, about 88. one of the warmer locations in antioch, widespread 50s mist and drizzle. tonight, the low clouds are back and the accuweather seven day forecast couple days of below average temperatures coming up a few degrees wednesday on thursday, mid 70s around the bay to near 90 inland and looks like the weekend for once will be cooler, so that will help with the relative humidity and the fire danger. but those winds always a concern out there. >> always a concern. but yeah hopefully conditions will improve for them out there fighting. yeah lisa thank you so much. all right. more than 100,000 people across four states are waking up with no electricity right now. tropical storm debbie is no longer in the u.s, but people are still feeling the impact. they're cleaning up after heavy rains and strong winds, uprooted trees, and of course, knocked out power. crews are working to get the power restored this
