about 74 in fremont and low to mid 60s with the clouds clinging to the shoreline. >> zach lisa thank you. now to your voice. your vote. the vice president is waking up in san francisco preparing for a fundraiser expected to bring in millions of dollars for her campaign. joining her is running mate tim walz. today's fundraiser has already raised $12 million from the nearly 700 people who have bought tickets. abc seven news reporter anser hassan has a closer look at what's expected today. >> vice president kamala harris is coming home and bringing with her the presumptive vp pick. minnesota governor tim walz, many bay area politicians supporting them. >> but as a californian, couldn't be more proud, couldn't be more excited than the prospects of a president harris. i'm all in california. >> senator alex padilla, speaking at an event in san francisco on saturday, will be among the many looking to harris to lead the country for the next four years. like representative barbara lee, who spoke to abc seven news on friday. >> i'll be there and look forward to seeing her as she's doing a phenomenal job. and if

we do the work, she will be the next president of the united states from san francisco da to california attorney general to u.s. senator and now vice president, professor nolan higdon says harris is on friendly territory, tapping into a familiar and wealthy donor base. >> just two three weeks ago, democrats, you know, assumed that donald trump was going to take the white house. there was a lot of fear within the party and the donor base that supports the party. >> professor higdon says harris is building on the enthusiasm her campaign has ignited, sparked by the addition of walls hoping to turn enthusiasm into donations. >> so harris, despite the fact that she had low approval ratings and there was a lot of doubt behind the scenes about her uh, she's seen as a, you know, a game changer. >> but not all are as enthusiastic protests are planned for sunday, led by pro-palestinian supporters who have taken to the streets across the bay area for the past ten months. a lot of groups like the uncommitted movement and the abandoned biden movement are also really pushing her to come out with a policy platform that

includes an arms embargo against israel to end the genocide in gaza. nadia rahman is a long time political activist, previously leading the san francisco women's political committee. even volunteered for biden's 2020 campaign. she thinks harris and waltz can win, but she says they can't ignore the undecided voters and the swing states, which is what she says landed biden in trouble. >> money is not going to be the deciding factor in who becomes president following the november election. it's honestly going to come down to issues like the arms embargo with israel. >> anser hassan. abc seven news. >> doors open at 9 a.m. for that fundraiser brunch. the protests are expected to begin at 10 a.m, and this is the first time harris has been in the bay area since she was declared the democratic party's nominee for president, and harris pledged to work to eliminate taxes on tips paid to restaurant and other service industry employees. this was during her saturday campaign stop in las vegas. it echoes a

similar pledge by her opponent, republican donald trump, and it's a rare moment of political overlap between the two candidates. trump is accusing harris of copying his pledge, and a spokesperson for his campaign says someone hacked the republican nominee's political operation, politico reports. it received emails from an anonymous account with documents from inside trump's campaign. the campaign spokesperson said that foreign sources hostile to the u.s. illegally obtained the documents. the campaign is citing a report by microsoft on a phishing scheme targeting a high ranking official. microsoft does not confirm that the trump campaign was the target of the hack. trump's running mate, jd vance will appear on abc's this week this morning. here's a quick preview shows how he responded when asked if vice presidential picks matter. >> most people, 99% of the country, they don't vote on who the vice presidential nominee they're voting for. >> donald trump or for kamala harris, not for jd or tim walt. right. but what i think that he does believe, because he made it the main focus of his vetting

process, is do i think this person can be president on day one if, god forbid, something happens? yes so i absolutely am sure that donald trump is confident in my abilities. i also think that he's right that the politics of this really don't matter that much. >> you can catch the entire interview with jd vance this morning on this week, starting at 8 a.m. a popular san francisco ice cream shop is boarded up this morning after burglars broke into the store. surveillance video captured the break in at mitchell's ice cream on san jose avenue around 330 friday morning. co-owner linda mitchell says the suspects failed to take off a padlock on the front door, so they used bolt cutters to bash their way into the store instead. once inside, the burglars went straight for the money, so they went in through the window, went to the back, tried to steal the safe which is bolted down, and they really left with nothing except a bag of cookies. >> so mitchell believes it will cost $5,000 to replace the big

front window. >> the ice cream shop remains open despite the burglary. police tell us no arrests have been made. new developments in the pro-palestinian protests that shut down the golden gate bridge for hours. 26 people are now facing criminal charges in the case. san francisco da brooke jenkins issued arrest warrants for the group yesterda. they face charges including false imprisonment, conspiracy and trespassing. jenkins says eight of the protesters believed to be involved in the planning of the demonstration are facing felony charges. jenkins says her office heard from three dozen people who were trapped for hours, including a person with a brain tumor who missed a medical appointment and a mom with her baby who had no water for formula. >> we need to make sure that when we advocate, when we engage in our free speech rights, that we're doing it in a safe manner. we cannot obstruct people's ability to of movement, certainly not for hours at a time. >> jenkins says the protests, which happened in april, will

likely cost the bridge $162,000 in lost revenue. the protesters must surrender by tomorrow. new developments. a jury has convicted a former antioch police officer of wire fraud and conspiracy for his role in a college degree scam. that's according to our media partners at the east bay times. prosecutors say morteza amiri paid a woman to take college courses for him so he could get education related pay raises. he faces up to 20 years in prison. the fbi began investigating amiri in the college scam last year, and in that case led to the seizure of antioch police officer phones, which led to a wider investigation, including the department's racist text message scandal. happening today. it's the last day of the outside lands music festival. so today, sturgill simpson is headlining and post malone will perform a special special country music set. teddy swims victoria monet chapel. rowan will also take the stage. abc seven news reporter tara campbell talked to people trying to make the most of the

because it is definitely very foggy, but quite a few cars starting to get out and about this sunday morning, getting their day off to a nice start. all right, workers at eight san francisco hotels have voted to authorize a strike. a local chapter of the unite here union is calling for better wages, affordable health care and lighter workloads. the union's contract expires wednesday. union leaders say they the vote to authorize a strike comes after months of unsuccessful negotiations with hyatt, hilton and marriott. the vote covers housekeepers, cooks, dishwashers, servers, bartenders and bell attendants. now they've only authorized the strike. it doesn't necessarily mean a strike will take place. the dreamy coastal town of carmel by the sea is known, among other things, for not having street addresses. but there's a push to change that. after decades without them, a city council vote last month is decided to add street names and numbers to homes in the one square mile neighborhood. local law enforcement and fire officials told residents it's a safety issue during emergencies. they also don't get mail delivery service. every resident has to

pick up their mail from the post office. >> i just don't think it's necessary. i mean, honestly, we've lived this way for 100 years. we don't need them. >> i'm in favor of it because of delivery issues. uber will work better. the ambulances will be able to find us. when i have a heart attack, a lot of people split on it. >> it's interesting. in november, residents will be voting for city council members and a mayor who's going to determine the fate of whether to give residents addresses. well, we're getting an inside look at caltrans new cutting edge electric fleet. the new trains represent a landmark shift toward faster, cleaner public transit, helping to fight climate change and build a better bay area. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard has reaction from the first riders of the new fleet. >> three two. nancy pelosi and governor gavin newsom cutting the ribbon on a new, faster, cleaner commute. caltrain powering up and showing off its new electric fleet of trains on

sunnyvale over here, and this is a major upgrade. i'm really glad we're going in the way of electric with such a smooth ride. >> beautiful new seats, beautiful bathrooms, wi-fi, amazing starting on sunday, the public gets to ride caltrain says the fleet will be fully electric by next month in san francisco. >> cornell, bernard abc seven news. >> the head of the sfmta says weekends are a huge part of their post-pandemic recovery. at a board meeting this week, director jeffrey tumlin talked about how ridership is shifting dramatically from weekday commutes to weekends. tumlin says downtown rail ridership is at about 55% of pre-covid levels, but certain bus lines like the 49 down van ness and the 22 on fillmore are seeing huge surges 140% of pre-covid levels. tumlin says on weekends, that surge hits 200%. so as a result, the sfmta is adjusting schedules every 4 to 6 months to try and keep up. >> as far as i know, we're the only agency in the country that is making this frequent of

complete rebuilding of our schedule, chasing the data and the changing travel patterns. >> tumlin says they're trying to prioritize evenings, weekends and even midday for their schedules because that's where they're seeing demand. all right. now to the latest on the park fire. cal fire says the fourth largest wildfire in california history is now 37% contained. so far, more than 429,000 acres have burned in butte, tehama, shasta and plumas counties. the fire started on july 24th, east of chico. crews say they added more containment lines with moderate fire activity yesterday, but officials say wind gusts between 20 to 25mph are forecasted this afternoon, which could challenge crews in some areas in the sierra foothills better weather conditions are helping firefighters fight the crosier fire, which is northeast of placerville. containment is up to 14%, and it's burned nearly 2000 acres. cal fire says the flames are difficult to get to because of the steep and rugged

terrain. several towns remain under an evacuation order. no buildings have been damaged or destroyed. and now let's get to meteorologist lisa argen and lisa. hopefully the weather today is going to help those firefighters out. >> yes, it's the upper elevations that have been so dry at about 20% or so. relative humidity compared to at the surface. we are just socked in with the fog and the moisture content is much higher. but eventually we're going to get a little bit more relative humidity there into the sierra nevada, northern california. but we are also are looking at a weak system that is going to bring more wind. so already a fire weather watch going into effect for tomorrow as a trough of low pressure cools us off, expanding our marine layer. it's going to kick up the winds in the sierra nevada and that will work to dry things out. despite the cooler weather on the way. southwesterly flow bringing in some of the cloud cover throughout the day. today and a pretty look at the shark tank. you can see the scattered clouds

from above here. 622 that official sunrise, the sun sets at 807 it is 54. in san francisco, 59 in hayward, with 60. in san jose. and this is from our east bay hills camera atop vollmer peak. so the cloud cover moving into the east bay right now, the breeze has set up throughout the delta. southwest wind at 24 miles an hour for fairfield. it's 58. there 52 in petaluma and 53 santa rosa. and our final stop, a foggy look outside our window here, our exploratorium camera. coastal low clouds and drizzle this morning. so the wipers once again needed at the shoreline. it's going to be a gray and cool, breezy day at the coast around the bay, it's breezy, 5 to 10 degrees cooler from the bay shore through our inland valleys, and then that cooler pattern it sets up today. tomorrow we'll see a slight bump up in temperatures, maybe a couple degrees midweek, but the next couple of hours inland notice you'll be in the 60s with partly cloudy skies. and then by 11:00, climbing through the 70s.

this is around fairfield and brentwood up to the upper 80s, then dropping off throughout the nine 10:00 hour. but we'll be slightly cooler than that around the san ramon valley. and as we check out that cloud cover, it's from a couple different sources from our marine layer, from a weak system offshore. so we'll see at times more clouds than sun. but we're also going to get in some sun today. and then that marine layer expanding through your monday morning into the afternoon. it's bright and it's breezy again as a weak system works its way to the north of us, allowing for that cool air to stay in place. there's a look at the breeze today, kicking up to over 30 miles an hour through the delta, 20 miles an hour at the coastline, or better. and as for your highs today from the low 70s in richmond and palo alto, about 81 in san jose, 85 in concord. and we'll cool it back up in the north bay with 82 santa rosa. so certainly a cooler august day out there in the accuweather seven day forecast. the breezy, cooler

that were arrested earlier this year. >> san francisco voters approved mayor breed's proposition e, allowing for the use of surveillance cameras and drones to pursue suspects. now, their first data points are out. police say these drones are working, confirming the arrests of several suspects. drones caught. >> we have a sense of urgency to make this a safe city and to do the things that the people in this city deserve, san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins said. >> these videos were key to prosecute these suspects as a result of that arrest. >> and that footage, we were able to file auto burglary charges on individuals who, quite frankly, two of them are repeat offenders of crime. >> so far, sfpd only deploys the drones after receiving intel of a potential crime in progress. but the plan is to expand the use of drones in problematic areas around the city to get the resources and equipment to the area that's being impacted by crime and deploy from areas that

this half hour. so much news to get to, but we do want to get to weather first. so let's check in with meteorologist lisa argen. hey, lisa. >> hi there zach. good morning to you. we have an air quality advisory that has been extended for your sunday. here's a look at current air quality conditions around the bay area. and the yellows indicate moderate air quality from the north bay to the east bay around oakland and in the south bay. so once again, we're seeing a little bit of haze or we will be throughout the afternoon from that smoke from the fires to the north of us. so the haze will be with us along with some cloud cover. and then as we get into the late evening hours, that strong onshore flow pushes all of that into the sierra nevada.

so better air quality to start the workweek. but temperatures trending down with abundance of cloud cover from the low clouds to the high clouds. 59 in hayward right now, and from our east bay hills camera atop vollmer peak, you can see all the gray sky there. 58 in fairfield. with that southwest wind kicking up near 60 at the coast with mist and drizzle. bay shore, upper 60s to low 70s and even the clouds infiltrating our inland valleys with ties coming down at least ten degrees there today. zach. >> lisa. thank you. to new developments now rescue teams in brazil have retrieved the remains of all 62 people who died when a plane fell from the sky. yesterday, families started gathering where the crash happened in sao paulo to identify and bury their loved ones. brazil's president declared three days of mourning in response to the incident. this terrifying video here shows the 72 twin engine turboprop falling from the sky friday. authorities say the aircraft never declared an emergency. the airline has not said what may

have caused the crash. well, the fbi is investigating improvised explosive devices found throughout the island of maui. an improvised explosive device could be a homemade bomb or device that could be destructive. and one of them went off blowing out windows on a passing car. federal agents and maui police say they found several of them concealed in makeshift baskets across the island. residents have been asked to stay alert. just a few days ago, maui marked the first anniversary of the deadly wildfires that devastated the northwest coast. starting soon, all new u.s. troops will go through cognitive testing in order to more easily diagnose brain trauma later on. the pentagon says it will also put more distance between personnel and weapon blasts during training exercises. the overall push for brain health comes nine months after an army reservist named robert card went on a shooting rampage in maine. he killed 18 people. in a postmortem study of card's brain found it was, quote, likely he had a traumatic brain injury.

dozens of people living in rvs parked on zoo road in san francisco must be moved off that street by today. authorities began citing vehicles parked on zoo road last week. owners are upset, telling abc seven news they don't know where else to go. some of those vehicles at zoo road came from winston drive between lake merced and stonestown galleria, where they were parked for a long time. they were ordered to move ahead of a repaving project scheduled for next month. from the i-team, a 72 year old former bay area home depot employee is suing the retailer for age discrimination and wrongful termination. it comes after she was fired for failing to stop fraudulent purchases of about $5,000. abc7 news i-team reporter melanie woodrow has the story. >> your phenomenal in every way. we are grateful to have you. during her seven years working as a cashier at the san ramon home depot, carlene acevedo says she won multiple awards for exceptional service, including cashier of the year in 2021. >> i loved working there, but last july, home depot fired

acevedo after she rung up for fraudulent transactions, resulting in a more than $5,000 loss for home depot. >> i was so upset, i just i just wanted to get out of there. i was, i was i never, never been fired before. >> acevedo says she was working alone in the garden center when a man approached her cash register with a card that had written instructions on the back to process the transaction. as cash. she rung up a purchase for a little more than $1,300. >> the card was suspicious. it was very suspicious, but i went ahead and ran it approximately 30 minutes later, she says. >> the customer returned. >> and then i knew for sure that he was targeting me because i was alone. >> acevedo says she tried to call her supervisor. the head cashier, but no one answered. >> he was demanding he wanted the transaction done as fast as possible. he got upset when i made the phone call to my manager. i was scared. >> according to her termination letter, acevedo ran three additional separate transactions

as cash, this time for more than $4,000. she says she kept duplicate copies of the receipts that she took to her manager. >> four days later, i got fired. >> the incident happened three months after pleasanton home depot lost prevention officer blake mose was shot and killed while trying to stop a theft attempt, a story acevedo was familiar with. it was devastating. >> i mean, it was sad. >> acevedo says as an employee, she received annual computer based training by home depot on what to do in the event of a shoplifting or active shooter. what were you instructed to do? >> i was instructed not to do a thing. do not approach. do not touch. do not try to, dissuade, not to interfere. just let them go. >> she was doing everything she could. she asked for backup. she's making copies of the receipt. you know, she can't risk her life for merchandise. and employees are explicitly taught not to risk their life for merchandise. >> acevedo's attorney, chambord. benton hayes, also questions the timing of her termination,

according to the lawsuit. six months prior, acevedo learned a teenage new hire at the store had a starting salary of $21 an hour. acevedo, who was 70 at the time and had been working at home depot for seven years, was making $20.17 an hour, she complained, and the following month received a $2 raise. >> they really just wanted an excuse to terminate her the moment she complains she's terminated within a few months by email, a home depot spokesperson told the i-team, i can't discuss ongoing litigation. >> i lost so much. i lost my health care. my health declined because of as a result of that, i had difficulty finding work and paying my rent was put into question, acevedo says. >> it took a while, but she was able to find new part time work. >> it was a devastating emotional experience. >> melanie woodrow, abc seven news. >> and her attorney says she'll try to obtain surveillance video from the store as part of discovery, as well as any employee handbook or instructions that might exist regarding what to do in a

everyone. we have a pretty good southwesterly wind that will be bringing the cooler air to our inland valleys. already looking at gusts to 29 miles an hour through the delta. and a pretty good healthy marine layer area of low pressure developing off the coast as well. all enhancing the cooler air that's going to arrive today from vollmer peak. you can see the cloud cover there. it is 54, in san francisco, 57 in oakland, 60 in san jose. and from san jose, the shark tank. you can see that marine layer 53 santa rosa with 59 in concord and 58 in livermore. air quality is moderate throughout the bay area right now, so our advisory has been extended into sunday, and with a little haze in the upper levels of the atmosphere and those ongoing fires, it will be be a bit hazy out there. from the east bay and the south bay. the central coast. this is a look at the smoke aloft and those active fires burning. you'll notice that we are covered in that light shade of

blue there and then into your monday afternoon. it all sweeps to the east of us as those onshore winds kick up. there's a weak system that will be bringing those stronger winds on monday and also bring down the relative humidity in the mountains to as low as 9%. so despite the cool down, we need that higher moisture content in the atmosphere. and that's not going to happen for your monday. as we head towards the upper elevations in the afternoon, coastal low clouds and drizzle at the coast. breezy and much cooler today. and looking at that cooler pattern continuing to start the work week in the south bay, it's going to be a sunny afternoon, mostly in the afternoon. a few clouds around 80. in santa clara it's cooler and breezier here from the low 70s. san mateo 72, redwood city and mountain view and the clouds hanging on to the coastline. golden gate park temperatures in the low 60s, so it will be cool there today for outside lands up in the north bay. it's a cooler

day with a few 90s on your saturday 76 today in sonoma, 80 in calistoga and on the east bay. here we've got 72 in newark. so that's certainly cool. with that breeze kicking up throughout the afternoon, 76 in castro valley. and you head inland and we've got those mid 80s in livermore, 88 in antioch today, one of the warmer numbers, the accuweather seven day forecast breezy cooler today that air quality advisory extended with moderate air quality in the east bay, the south bay and into your monday. the low clouds, the fog with us. the below average temperatures continue into tuesday a little change may be slightly warmer by the middle of the week. a minor tick up in the temperatures wednesday and thursday and then into next weekend. certainly looking cool. so we haven't had much in the way of consistence with summertime. it's been so hot. so i mean, that was consistent, but this is more typical, more seasonal. yeah. >> and appreciated too. okay good lisa thank you. all right.

off in san francisco's civic center at grove and larkin. the biggest filipino american festival is held at the end of the parade route at yerba buena gardens, where there's lots of food, shopping and entertainment. the festival. it's going to be held again today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m, so you got plenty of time to get out there. well, a popular arch documented in countless pictures has collapsed in the glen canyon national recreation area. the national park service says the double arch came crashing down thursday. here's what it used to look like. the feature on lake powell was formed from sandstone dating back 190 million years. the national park service says changing water levels due to the drought in the west likely contributed to the collapse. happening tonight, a meteor shower is expected over the night sky, and california state parks are inviting people to watch it in the best conditions, starting tonight through tuesday evening, you can see the perseid

meteor shower from the comet swift-tuttle. it orbits the sun every 133 years. the state parks are allowing people to see it when open skies and with open skies and minimal light pollution, they say to double check road closures before you leave because some are closed after sunset. and you know, it's always a toss up here in the bay area as to whether or not we can see that. >> but yeah, maybe one of those parks probably yosemite would be a good spot far inland. the sierra nevada has certainly the air quality issues with the ongoing fires in the bay area. we have the fog. so certainly not a great shot at it, unfortunately. here's a look at a warmer day we have for the week ahead. we're starting off the workweek. cool low 90s for your wednesday thursday, maybe a few degrees cooler. that's inland and we still have the comfortable temperatures around the bay. so it's going to be a quiet week weather wise. the coolest numbers today, tomorrow and then into the middle of the week. maybe a few degrees warmer, but we will certainly have a nice break from the heat. we've had that a little bit, but
