democratic supporters who attended today's fundraiser. cornell. yeah, jr. >> kamala harris back home in the bay area. today's big money fundraiser. you said it collecting $12 million for her campaign. democratic donors say it's money well spent an investment for the fure of the country. >> we are here to hopefully see the next president of the united states. >> queta highsmith from san francisco, paid big money for her family to attend a fundraiser for vice president kamala harris at the fairmont hotel on nob hill. would you be here if the ticket hadn't changed a few weeks ago? >> no, i would not. >> daughter quinlan says young voters like her are excited seeing kamala take these steps to get to this position that she's in, coming from the same undergraduate school that i came from, it's inspiring. >> it reminds me that these barriers are going to be kicked down. >> our news cameras were not allowed inside the fundraiser. about 700 people stood in line for harris's first bay area campaign stop since rising to the top of the democratic ticket.

home state. he and i are putting together a campaign tour in pennsylvania. i'm going to be campaigning other states as well, and i'm going to do whatever kamala thinks i can do to help most. >> biden also said he was, quote, not confident at all that there would be a peaceful transfer of power if former president trump loses the election. former president donald trump had no rallies today and doesn't have much of a public schedule this week. he said on thursday he plans to stay off the campaign trail until after the democratic national convention ends on august 22nd, his campaign said this weekend that republican vice presidential nominee jd vance will visit michigan on wednesday. vance made the rounds on the sunday talk shows today. he's defending his past comments on women and families without children. in a 2021 speech before a conservative group, vance suggested that people with children should have extra votes. in an interview today with jonathan karl on this week,

he said the comments were made in response to democratic proposals to allow younger voters and were not a policy stance. >> i'm talking about a thought experiment here and do i regret saying it? i regret that the media and the kamala harris campaign has has frankly distorted what i said, how i'm trying. i just read your words. how's that distorting what you said? because they have turned this into a policy proposal that i never made. john i said, i want us to be more pro-family, and i do want us to be more pro-family. and i do think, look, when you're a parent and you have children, you obviously have a different perspective. and that's and i said that too. and i certainly believe that. but i think that the idea, john, that i actually want to change the american voting system, to give 12 year olds the right to vote and then to give control over it to their parents. it's ridiculous. i never said that i was responding to a democratic line, vance said that he and trump are extremely confident in their chances of winning the election. >> good. more of that interview with j.d. vance, including his mass deportation plan on abc

seven news.com/politics. you'll find a full range of political news there, including updates on the campaigns for the white house. breaking news a rollover crash on the bay bridge is causing an extensive backup in san francisco. this crash happened just before four. this afternoon on eastbound lanes of the lower deck, about a mile east of first street. fortunately, no one was seriously hurt. traffic was reduced to one lane, but minutes ago, those other lanes just reopened. but eastbound traffic leading to the bay bridge is backed up on city streets and on 101 as far south as potrero hill. we'll keep an eye on the situation and have updates here on abc seven news at six. we are following the story as dozens of people living in rvs in san francisco are in limbo. people parked on zoo roads started receiving citations this past week, told they need to move by monday, or else they could be towed. many of the rvs have

cleared out already, but some were still parked there. this afternoon, there are now signs in the area saying there will be no parking starting wednesday. people living here tell us they don't know where else to go. some of the vehicles have been parked on winston drive near stonestown galleria for a very long time, but were forced out ahead of a repaving project. well, school starts tomorrow for some 34,000 students in the bay area. that's when oakland unified students will return to class. some other upcoming start dates here. the 35 schools in the san ramon valley unified district begin the new school year on wednesday. that's the same day fremont unified will welcome students back to class. school starts for the san francisco unified school district on monday, august 19th. happening today, the beginning of a new era. some caltrain riders took their first trip aboard one of the transit agency's new electric trains.

two new electric trains were put into service today between san jose and san francisco. caltrain plans to add two more trains each week until all 19 trains in the cutting edge electric fleet are in service on saturday, september 21st. >> this is making a big deal in terms of greenhouse gases. we're going to reduce 250,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions every year. that's the equivalent of taking 55,000 cars off the road. >> diesel trains will still run between san jose and gilroy. tears and joy today in the east bay. was the special moment there. we'll take you to an emotional homecoming following a tour of duty at sea and the 2024 olympic games have wrapped up in paris. tonight we're getting a clearer picture of plans for the next summer games in los angeles. there's talk of a major ban that would be an olympic first.

returned to its home port after months at sea. friends and family gathered in alameda to watch the. the way she arrived, plenty of smiles and hugs as the coast guard members reunited with loved ones. they've been gone just under four months on patrol through the pacific, doing search and rescue exercises with crews from other stations. >> the best part of the trip for me was interacting with my peers from other nations, sharing lessons learned, seeing how they do operations, and then comparing personal items l our d seeing that we have a lot more in common than we have differen. >> captain tyson schofield says the crew will enjoy a well-deserved break at home after a busy few months of missions. welcome back to all of those folks. people soaked in the aloha spirit today without having to take a flight to hawaii. we will take you to an event on the peninsula that showcases the heritage of hawaii and polynesia.

americans won 40 gold, tying china for the most. the us took home 42 silver and 44 bronze. china came in second in the total medal race with 91, winning 27 silver and 24 bronze. great britain won 65 medals, but only 14 were gold, and the host country, france, won 64 medals, including 16 gold. the us has now won the most overall medals

in eight consecutive summer games. now the focus shifts to los angeles, home of the 2028 summer games. mayor karen bass is sharing some bold plans. paris pledged that the seine river would be safe for swimming in la. in la, that is, the mayor is pitching a car free olympics. quite a shocker from a city notorious for its traffic. >> it is our goal in los angeles to have a car free games and you know what that means because we're a very car dependent city. but it means that if you are going to attend any of the sports venue, you're going to have to take public transportation. >> bass plans to use 3000 busses borrowed from across the country to help get people to the olympic venues. she also plans to ask businesses across the city to let their employees work from home. the entire length of the games. there on the peninsula. the bay

much of the day, but it's still a pleasant and mainly bright sky over the bay area right now, with wind speeds up to about 31mph over at oakland. keeping our air quality pretty good considering this was uh. we had an air quality advisory today because of smoke moving into the area from some of the wildfires, but the air quality is pretty good right now, and as you can see, it's much cooler. jr certainly felt it this morning than at this time yesterday. the seven to about 11 degrees cooler in our inland areas than this time yesterday. so 58 degrees right now in san francisco. mid to upper 60s at oakland and hayward, mid 70s at san jose and redwood city, 59 at half moon bay. here's the view at the golden gate where it's pretty gray mid 70s right now. excuse me, mid 70s santa rosa and the santa rosa area. mid to upper 60s at petaluma and napa and low to mid 80s at fairfield, concord and livermore. so it's mild inland but not very warm. so these are our forecast headlines overnight. we'll see coastal low clouds and drizzle once again a very familiar pattern tomorrow. below average temperatures once again. and for the remainder of the week it will be sunny and

we'll have minor warming but no significant increases in temperatures overnight. look for an increase in high clouds, mid-level clouds, low clouds, and some patchy drizzle, and we'll start the day tomorrow morning, much like we started today with gray conditions. but it'll sunny up by midday and we'll have mild conditions inland and around the bay shoreline overnight. low temperatures will be mainly in the mid to upper 50s and highs tomorrow will range from about 60 at half moon bay to 68 at oakland. some low 70s around the bay shoreline up in the north bay. look for 75 at napa, 85 santa rosa. low to mid 80s in the inland east bay, and only upper 70s in most of the south bay. here's the accuweather seven day forecast and you can see temperatures will bounce up a couple of degrees on tuesday and wednesday as high temperatures inland reach upper 80s to near 90, and they sort of stay in that range inland through most of the week. that's still not very warm. so still a below average pattern, just a little bit of an increase in temperatures on wednesday and then through uh- through the
