northbound 87. this is before 280 slowing things down there to about 44mph. we're told that the backup is to curtner avenue, so it's going to be taking people some time to get through that, especially in commute direction. and then i'll take you to the little stretch of road after that. this is still northbound 87. on the right side of your screen you can see things clear up after you get past 280. and that slow down that i was telling you about. then i'll take you to the east bay, leave you here as people are passing the coliseum, the nimitz. no issues here at 601. let's get back to the desk. >> all right. thanks. amanda. we're going to take a look at our forecast today as people are making their way out on a monday morning, national weather service is saying today is going to be pretty nice and clear. sunny skies. and then at night, mostly clear skies and clouds in some areas. daytime high, as you can see here, mostly in the 60s and 70s on the coast in the low 60s to low 80s around the bay, and then in the 80s inland. overnight lows are going to be mostly in the 50s. it's going to

be cooler today. that's a cooling trend. it's going to start to warm up on tuesday. developing news out of san francisco. police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in golden gate park, right outside of the outside lands music festival. the fire department tells us. paramedics found a man's body locked inside of a portable bathroom outside the festival grounds just after one yesterday afternoon. it's not clear how this man died or if he was going to attend or attended outside lands. last year, also on the last night of that festival, police found a woman's body stuffed inside a duffle bag. police arrested two people on suspicion of conspiracy and unlawful disposal of human remains this morning. >> vice president kamala harris is back in dc. she wrapped up a huge fundraiser in san francisco yesterday, collecting $12 million for her campaign about 700 people stood in line at the fairmont for her first bay area campaign stop since becoming the democratic presidential nominee. not really a campaign stop. more

up more false claims of fraud in the 2020 election. there is video of harris's michigan rally from multiple news organization, from people in the crowd and from the harris campaign, who say their video was not altered in any way. former president trump has been off the campaign trail for the past two weeks now, and he says he's planning to stay off the trail until after the democratic national convention ends, which will be august 22nd. his campaign says his vice presidential nominee, jd vance, will be visiting michigan on wednesday. today, the former president is set to have a public conversation with elon musk on his platform x, once known as twitter. musk says it will be unscripted. no topic will be off limits. musk has already endorsed trump for president. that talk is set for 5 p.m. our time. >> president biden is weighing in on kamala harris presidential campaign. over the weekend, he sat down for his first interview since leaving the race. in this taped interview on cbs, biden

based on, has also gone down. additionally, the district is facing a large budget shortfall of around $56 million and the deficit is only expected to get worse. school board president sam davis says ousd is still using federal and state relief money to cover costs. the district is looking into possible school closures. >> we just have to take a tough look at every school and say, is this really the one that we need for our our district right now for our city, because we do see declining number of students everywhere, not just oakland, berkeley, hayward, across across the bay, across the country. >> and some community organizations say there needs to be change to help some of the families who are underprivileged. >> unfortunately, in oakland, just 2 in 10 black and brown students can read at grade level. just 1 in 10 can do math at grade level. just about 50% of black and brown students are actually even eligible to apply to a four year college when they're done with high school.

options. the agency is expanding the paratransit pilot system and combining the two zones they offer into one, which allows for greater access for people with disabilities. ready reels operates on the bay side of the county and ready coast on the coast side. they're also working to increase same day reservations. usually, riders need to book trips ahead of time. the same day option costs more at $10 a way. one way and scheduling ahead costs $4.25 a fare. >> more new bart faregates are going up this week at two stations. construction will continue at the un plaza entrance to civic center station and the fruitvale station in oakland. the hope is that the style of gate will cut down a fare evasion, improve safety, and be easier to maintain. bart is planning to install them systemwide by the end of next year. >> a camera hidden at the lion den and the oregon zoo didn't stay hidden for too long. look at this video. it shows the pride finding the camera and they took it away with them. oh,

and now usa gymnastics is fighting back. here's abc news reporter andrew dymburt this morning. >> u.s. olympic officials are vowing to appeal this weekend's ruling that strips american gymnast jordan chiles of her bronze medal. the controversy began last week when chiles took fifth place. her coach appealed the score and the so-called scoring inquiry was a success. chiles was bumped from fifth place up to bronze and posed for this now famous picture, with simone biles bowing to brazil's rebeca andrade and celebrating an all black podium. but this weekend, a bombshell announcement, an independent arbitrator said that scoring inquiry from chiles coach last week was made four seconds too late. inquiries must be made within one minute of the performance. chiles heartbroken, saying i am taking the time and removing myself from social media for my mental health. usa gymnastics late yesterday fighting back, submitting video evidence it says proves the inquiry by charles koch was filed within the one minute deadline. it says the video is time stamped. the controversy comes on the heels of a hugely successful olympics for team usa

harris wraps up her first campaign swing with running mate tim walz. polls are showing that vp harris is taking the lead in some battleground states. here's abc news reporter adam nguyen. >> the race for the white house fired up in las vegas. vice president harris capping off a whirlwind of a week crisscrossing the country with running mate and minnesota governor tim walz. when we fight, we win. with just one week into the democratic national convention, the new democratic ticket marched through five battleground states, including arizona and pennsylvania. harris said to unveil her economic plans this week, it'll be focused on the economy and what we need to do to bring down costs and also strengthen the economy overall. harris strongly disagreeing with former president trump's suggestion that presidents should get a say in the federal reserve's interest rate decisions. >> the fed is an independent entity and as president, i would never interfere in the decisions

democratic ticket, trump is projecting confidence, writing on social media that this campaign is his best thus far. and when abc news washington. >> today, more than two dozen protesters accused of shutting down the bay bridge earlier this year have to surrender by today. da brooke jenkins issued arrest warrants on saturday, and in total, 26 people are charged. the charges include false imprisonment, conspiracy and trespassing. jenkins says eight of the protesters believed to be involved with the planning of the demonstration are the ones facing felony charges. jenkins says her office heard from three dozen people who were trapped for hours, including a person with a brain tumor who missed a medical appointment and a mom with her baby who had no water for formula. >> we need to make sure that when we advocate, when we engage in our free speech rights, that we're doing it in a safe manner. we cannot obstruct people's ability to of movement, certainly not for hours at a

time. >> jenkins says the protests likely cost the bridge $162,000 in lost revenue. hotel workers at eight san francisco hotels have voted to authorize a strike. a local chapter of the unite here union is calling for better wages, affordable health care and lighter workloads. the union's contract expires wednesday. union leaders say the vote to authorize the strike comes after months of unsuccessful negotiations with hyatt, hilton and marriott. this vote covers housekeepers, cooks, dishwashers and servers, as well as bartenders and bella tenants. now, to be clear, they've only voted to authorize the strike, which does not necessarily mean a strike will happen. >> a jury has convicted a former antioch police officer of wire fraud and conspiracy for his role in a college degree scam. that's according to our media partners at the east bay times. prosecutors say that morteza amiri paid a woman to take

college courses for him so he could get education related pay raises. he faces up to 20 years in prison. the fbi began investigating amiri and the college scam last year. the case led to the seizure of antioch police officer's phones, which led to a wider investigation, including the department's racist text message scandal. >> the tech world is remembering and honoring the life of former youtube ceo susan wojcicki. her husband confirmed her death over the weekend in a facebook post, saying she lived with non-small cell lung cancer for two years. wojcicki was 56. the santa clara county native was one of the first google employees and google ceo sundar pichai posted a tribute on x, writing in part she is as core to the history of google as anyone, and it's hard to imagine the world without her. former coo of facebook and google executive sheryl sandberg posted on instagram she was committed to expanding opportunities for women throughout silicon valley. i

don't believe my career would be what it is today without her unwavering support. >> such a bummer to hear about what happened at mitchell's ice cream shop over the weekend in san francisco. as you can see, plywood is covering the big glass window on san jose avenue. surveillance video captured a break in at 330 friday morning. co-owner linda mitchell says this crew couldn't get the big padlock off the front door, so they just smashed the windows with bolt cutters and this was all for naught. they tried to get some money. it didn't really work out, so they went in through the window, went to the back, tried to steal the safe which is bolted down, and they really left with nothing except a bag of cookies. >> so. >> mitchell believes that will cost $5,000 to replace that big front window. the ice cream shop remains open despite the burglary, so please go and support them. police tell us no

arrests have been made. >> we are learning new details about a deadly plane crash in brazil on friday. the bodies of all 62 victims have been recovered. a man is at the live desk with the investigation. and that stunning video, really, of the plane plummeting to the ground. amanda? >> yeah. kumasi investigators are now examining the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder, trying to determine what caused the crash. this stunning video that kumasi mentioned shows the plane in what's called a flat spin falling from the sky. it crashed into a suburb in sao paulo neighborhood and burst into flames, killing all 62 people on board. two trainee doctors are among the victims. the head of brazil's air accident investigation says the aircraft did not declare an emergency. officials also say the plane was flying normally until it stopped responding to calls when they lost radar contact. just a few minutes later, the plane went down. investigators are also examining the plane's engines to see if there could be clues

pentagon publicly announced that it is sending a guided missile submarine to the region, amid growing concern that iran could attack israel at any moment. abc news reporter rhiannon ally has the latest. >> this morning, the pentagon is ordering the uss georgia to the middle east. the nuclear powered submarine is capable of holding more than 150 tomahawk missiles. tensions in the region have been building after the former leader of hamas was assassinated in iran's capital last month. hamas blames israel for the killing and iran has vowed revenge. the pentagon typically keeps the movements of submarines classified. analysts say this rare announcement is a clear message to iran to back down the website, axios reports. israeli

mammal center counts four other stranded whales in the bay area this year. it's the lowest total for this time of the year in at least five years. they believe one of these whales died because of a ship strike, but they don't know the cause of death for the other three. >> new details. this morning about the cost and chaos of a large scale fish die off in an east bay lake. our partners at the bay area news group report the city of fremont spent roughly $17,000 to clean up the mess. more than 1000 fish died at lake elizabeth in fremont's central park over the 4th of july holiday. the city blamed the heat wave. the bay area news group obtained text messages from city staff showing park managers dug a mass grave to bury dozens of dead fish trying to mask the odor. records show the city brought in more than two dozen employees on july 6th to get rid of the remaining fish, working more than 150 hours of overtime. >> now it's our morning money report. retail experts are saying that locking up products in stores is causing more people
