the situation in the middle east is on the verge of getting much worse. the international effort underway to calm tensions. >> deadline to leave some san francisco families being told to pack their rvs and move by midnight. the help being offered by the city that could lead to a more permanent solution. >> over the past two weeks, i've been woken up more times overnight than i have combined over 20 years. >> a group of waymo cars on the fritz in san francisco's one of san francisco's parking lots. neighbors say it's been disturbing the peace for weeks. how waymo is responding. >> i'm just annoyed by the sound of the video, so i can't imagine living there. good morning. it's tuesday, august 13th. >> to start the check of our forecast with drew. >> yeah. so we start out with limited fog this morning. we'll get a nice afternoon out here. does turn breezy as we head deeper into the day. a live look from our south beach camera looking at the bay bridge as

folks come into the city. not a lot of clouds out there this morning. partly cloudy skies from this vantage point, so current temperatures right now. you need that light jacket this morning we're mainly in the 50s around the bay shoreline. good morning, san mateo. we're at 56. 58 is that current temperature in cupertino? the wider picture some chilly spots right now in the north bay, santa rosa, sonoma in the upper 40s. it's a similar story right now in gilroy coming in in the 40s as well. so some chilly air in some areas. and we will find a very nice afternoon on the way. so inland first we get those temperatures gradually warming will max out in the mid and upper 80s later on today, with a bit of a breeze around the bay shoreline. not a lot of fog out there. so once that sun is up here in the next 20 minutes, we will have a pretty bright looking day into the 70s we go, but it does get breezy this afternoon. we'll have those winds about 15 to 25mph. even stronger winds along the coast, but a mix of sun and clouds today and daytime highs will be in the low and mid 60s. let's check in with amanda. see those drive times? >> yeah. good morning drew. our overall map showing plenty of

green. there isn't a lot of drama on your roads. you can see the typical slowdown along the altamont pass and then some promising news over in concord. we have been tracking a four vehicle crash on southbound 242 before concord avenue. you can see things are slowly improving. it has cleared, but there are residual delays from highway four. then i'll get you over to the richmond bridge. the right lane is blocked by an abandoned camping trailer. we're told bridge crews are on the scene. you can see it is kind of slowing things down to about 37mph. so just be aware there, things moving a little slower on the upper deck of the bay bridge, but really not too bad as people make their way into the city. back to the desk. >> thanks, amanda. developing news in san francisco, where families living in rvs in one neighborhood are being displaced for a second time this year. now, months ago, they were told to leave a street near lake merced. you can see it here on this map. well, they ended up just outside the san francisco zoo, and now they have to pack up and leave there or face punishment from the city. abc seven news reporter gloria

rodriguez joining us live in gloria. the city is offering a help, but the deadline to move is now less than 24 hours away. >> that's right. kumasi san francisco is requesting these rvs leave zoo road by midnight, or they will be towed. the city is now offering them help, but it's not a simple process. this morning, our photographer captured this video on zoo road. there's still about two dozen rvs out there as the clock ticks for them to leave. the city says many of these rvs have multiple families living in them, and we found that many moved there during the pandemic when their job situation changed. many of those residents gathered outside their rvs yesterday as they waited for city workers who set up tables and take people. many left winston drive two weeks ago, hoping to avoid getting towed after the city implemented a four hour parking restriction for an upcoming repaving project. and since then, zoo road became their new home. but last week, the city put them on notice, saying they had to leave zoo road as well. the city is

providing vouchers or financial assistance to help many of them pay for housing, but these rv residents still need to find available housing that will accept the vouchers. that also depends on what's available right now. in many cases, some of these rv residents will qualify to get a percentage of their rent paid for by the city for up to three years. >> now, what we have is what we call rapid rehousing, which are vouchers that kind of a program that allows them to have subsidies for a period of time and seeing if we can move them close by apartments because they want to live in the community. so seeing how that that's going to work out happy, because we're going to have a place to live. >> i have been living in arby's for four years now. >> that's 11 year old hazel. she was in line with her family and she's optimistic about finding a new place to live. san francisco will not be paying for people's rent indefinitely. city workers say it's a case by case situation to help people get

into housing. now, as a way out of homelessness. and the city says they have had multiple outreach events for these residents to provide housing resources. live in the studio gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thanks, gloria. there's a back to school mess in the north bay and apparently wild boars are to blame. caution tape ropes off what's left of the grass at geyserville new tech academy. it looks like a bulldozer went through there, but the press democrat reports it's actually pigs. the boar started with the baseball fields. and then when school officials put up the fences, they went to town on the rest of the campus. the paper says the school has hired a trapper school there starts on thursday. and by the way, tomorrow san ramon valley and fremont unified kick off their school years. alameda unified starts on thursday and sf usd starts next week. >> developing news in the mideast israel is on high alert this morning amid concern that iran could launch an attack at any time. and amanda, the white house is reacting as israel is

mobilizing its resources and kumasi. >> currently, the israeli air force is banning its members from leaving the country. a white house official says iran and its proxies could launch what they're calling a significant set of attacks on israel this week. iran has vowed to retaliate for the recent assassinations of top hamas and hezbollah officials. yesterday, president biden spoke with the leaders of france, germany, italy and the u.k. they discussed the escalating tensions and called for iran to stand down, even as a u.s. missile guided submarine heads to the region. >> the president is confident that we have the capability available to us to help defend israel. should it come to that? nobody wants to see it come to that, which is why we continue to have these diplomatic conversations. >> and cia director william burns will arrive in qatar thursday for previously scheduled peace talks between

israel and hamas. talks are seemingly growing more fragile by the day, with the threat of a wider regional conflict looming. back to you at the desk. >> thanks, amanda. we are 83 days and counting to the presidential election, and you can see our countdown clock right here. it's to the polls opening on election day next week. democrats are going to be gathering for their national convention. it starts monday in chicago. it goes until thursday. vice president kamala harris has already been certified as the party's nominee. scheduled speakers at the dnc include president joe biden, former presidents barack obama and bill clinton, as well as former secretary of state hillary clinton in the east bay. oakland city council is looking at a major shift this november. multiple incumbents are choosing not to run for reelection. three out of eight council seats are suddenly wide open. one of those announcements came very last minute. council member trevor reed posted a statement on her decision not to run friday night, hours after the deadline for paperwork had passed.

longtime council members rebecca kaplan and dan cobb also not running to hold their seats. the city is now extending the deadline for candidates to file to run in those council races. >> new at six. one bay area county is considering a plan to cut down on people who hog electric vehicle chargers. today, the solano county board of supervisors will discuss possibly implementing idle fees at charges owned by the county. that's when your car stays connected to the charger after it's finished charging, preventing others from using it. it's unclear when this would take effect. if it's approved and how much those fees could cost. >> good morning, walnut creek. a live picture this morning showing you clear conditions. good visibility out there. current numbers over there 59 degrees right now. high humidity and the winds have been breezy this morning. out of the west right now. 15mph. and they'll likely pick up as we head into the afternoon. now look at the forecast this morning. very limited cloud cover out there.

we don't have widespread fog to deal with this morning. so sunshine appears here very fast for most of us. and temperatures will gradually climb through the 60s as we approach that lunchtime hour. so looking at the forecast today, it's mostly sunny in the city. it will be nice at 68, but it is windy. winds gusting about 20 to 30mph today 74 in oakland with sunny skies, 82 in san jose and walnut creek will keep that sunshine all day long and a high of 86 degrees. let's talk about those winds. it does get pretty breezy around here. just like yesterday in the afternoon. today we'll find that onshore flow about 15 to 30mph. strongest winds along the coast and through the city. and then likely we'll keep those winds again tomorrow. and those winds will keep temperatures in check. we're pretty close to average when it comes to our daytime high. so looking at today's map, the forecast calls for lots of sunshine will be in the 80s inland 60s and 70s around the bay shoreline. we'll be right back. >> taylor swift security is being beefed up for her shows in

last week. a man who has the details on the preps from law enforcement officials. >> reggie london is increasing security as taylor swift returns to the stage. an alleged terrorism plot forced her to cancel three shows in vienna last week. she will perform five shows at london's wembley stadium over the next week, in front of more than 90,000 fans each night, in addition to local police, private security specializing in counterterrorism will reportedly be called in to keep people safe. security experts believe protocols will be expanded outside the stadium perimeters as well. >> it definitely changes more the opportunity to move the perimeter out and extend the perimeter, as well as deploy surveillance and other foot traffic security representatives. there will be thousands of people involved in security. there will be uniformed security and law enforcement. there will be plainclothes security and law enforcement. >> wembley stadium says. quote

no one is allowed to stand outside any entrance or on the olympic steps at the front of the stadium. non ticket holders will be moved on the stadium implemented these rules when the pop star performed at wembley back in june. back to you at the desk. >> thanks, amanda. google is teaming up with actress selena gomez to support mental health services for young people. yesterday, the mountain view based company announced $10 million in new funding for nonprofits. google says it's committed to funding projects from high school teachers that offer new mental health training courses. the company hopes to center mindfulness as an educational goal as kids start this new school year. next year, a new tenant will take over the oakland coliseum. the oakland roots soccer team has secured the venue for their home games. the roots started working on the deal once the a's announced they were going to move out after this season. they're tentatively planned for 17 games next season, and potentially more if they reach the playoffs after 2025. the roots the roots hope to finish building a temporary stadium in a parking lot next to

the coliseum that will stand for ten years. >> we have been nomadic up to this point, playing at different venues around oakland and the east bay, and this gives us the opportunity to be here in oakland and also to significantly increase our capacity. >> the roots and city leadership say they'll work to try and keep the staff who are already working at the coliseum. happening tomorrow, it is bart night at raymond park when oakland's new baseball team, the ballers, take on the boise hawks. the children of bart employees will serve as ball boys and ball girls. a bart police lieutenant will sing the national anthem, and the first pitch is at 635. this week, you're going to start seeing waymo's fleet of driverless cars on freeways in san francisco. the company says taking a freeway compared to city streets can cut down on ride times. but i think you already know that because you know how freeways work. they say. i mean, i don't know. i'm still going to read this, though they say from the lake merced neighborhood to oracle park could be as much as

50% faster by taking the freeway instead of the streets. again. i mean, that's obvious from now. for now, though, only waymo employees are going to be able to get on the freeway using waymo. they are testing this here. and also on freeways in phoenix. now that freeway testing comes as waymo is promising, people in one san francisco neighborhood a fix to a really annoying problem. the driverless vehicles are getting confused in one parking lot, and they are honking at each other very early in the morning. we've seen waymo cars have a few hiccups in their first year of fully autonomous driving, but this is a new one. abc seven news reporter tim johns is hearing from frustrated neighbors. >> for the past few weeks, randall white has been dealing with a persistent and annoying problem right outside his san francisco condo. >> so i was like, where is that coming from? i looked down and i was like, i think it's coming

from the waymo cars, this parking lot full of driverless waymo cars has had multiple incidents where suddenly the vehicles become confused and start honking all at each other. >> white says he heard it for the first time about two weeks ago, after he was woken up around 4 a.m. then it happened again and again, and i started thinking, well, this is an issue. >> white isn't the only one who's had issues with the noises either. >> several people who live in the buildings nearby the parking lot have also had similar complaints. >> over the past two weeks, i've been woken up more times over night than i have combined over 20 years. >> russell polsky lives in a building adjacent to white. he says the honking incidents have happened at random times during both the day and night, and have started to take a toll on him. >> i could not be more cranky today for a monday after these past two weeks. it's really at a high level. it's just really, really it's tough. it affects the way you, you feel. >> white says he and others have reached out to waymo about the issue. in a statement sent to abc7 news, waymo says, quote, we

are aware that in some scenarios, our vehicles may briefly honk while navigating our parking lots. we have identified the cause and are in the process of implementing a fix. white says monday afternoon was the first time the honking seems to have gotten better. despite the inconvenience, he tells me he's still a fan of the autonomous vehicle company and uses the cars on a regular basis. >> and so i was all about it until the honking started, and all i really want is resolution in san francisco. >> tim johns, abc seven news tim knew what he was doing with that beat. >> he really did insert nat sound right? >> pop it. yeah, i'm annoyed for those people. why is it taking so long? >> i can't be like over the air and just like a boop update, it updated. that would infuriate m, >> yeah, i'd be out there yelling back at them, shut up! >> but that's just me. >> that's a good way to do it. this morning. here's our east

bay hills camera. we have some patchy fog out there. we're in store for a really nice afternoon. we'll keep temperatures in check. it's a little breezy. later on today. we'll show you those winds in a few minutes. here's a look at your highs versus average today. and you notice there's really no intense heat. there's temperatures that may be 1 or 2 degrees above average. but for the most part, you're going to feel a pretty typical august afternoon on the way. so looking at today's forecast inland, lots of sunshine, pleasant daytime highs, mainly staying in the 80s this afternoon around the bay shoreline. some patchy cloud cover early on, but really no deep fog to deal with first thing. so mostly sunny today and temperatures in the 70s and along the coast. it's a mix of sun and clouds. today we'll keep those temperatures in the 60s for daytime highs, so it's a sunny day today. the winds will pick up about 15 to 30mph throughout the afternoon in the south bay. lots of sunshine. 78. in cupertino, we'll hit 82. in san jose, about 86 in morgan hill, up along the peninsula, 80. redwood city 77, los altos 74. in san mateo. we'll keep it

the city says they have to go somewhere else. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is here. so, gloria, the city is offering help. >> that's right. the city is offering help, but it's not a simple process. the residents need to leave by midnight or they will be towed. and this morning, there are still about two dozen rvs there as the clock ticks for them to leave. the city says some of these rvs have multiple families living in them. and we found many moved there during the pandemic when their job situation changed. zoo road has been home to many residents for about two weeks after they left winston drive to avoid being towed after the city implemented a four hour parking restriction for an upcoming repaving project. but last week, the city put them on notice, saying they have to leave zoo road as well. yesterday, city workers offered housing resources. 25 year old victoria oliveira moved into an rv with her friend in november after losing her housing. victoria and gabriel say they have filled out multiple apartment applications, but they've been rejected

despite having high credit scores and bank statements that prove their incomes. >> i work like 85 hours per week. he works almost 50 hours per per week and we just want a home, a place to stay that we don't need to be concerned if we have water or know if we need to move the rv or no, and being denied. it's like, what is wrong with us? >> we're here just to answer the call for people needing help over a road. these are folks that a lot of them moved from winston road that's up the street. so i'm trying to see what we can get them in today with rapid rehousing. you know, whatever we have available. >> the city is providing vouchers or financial assistance to help many of them pay for housing for a period of time. but these rv residents still need to find available housing that will accept the vouchers that also depends on what's available right now. if residents do get housing, the

reduce the need for repeat surgeries, and decrease the damage for healthy tissues. this issue is personal for president biden. he lost his son, beau to cancer in 2015. mr. biden first launched this initiative as vice president, then relaunched it in 2022 with the goal of reducing the cancer death rate in the u.s. by at least half. back to you at the desk. >> okay, thanks, amanda. if you live on the east side of san jose, a big change to start at a local hospital that could impact your care. starting yesterday, regional medical center's trauma center changed from a level two to a level three. that means some emergency services have been downgraded to less comprehensive levels. last night, community members held a vigil outside the hospital. they criticized this downgrade at regional medical center and plans by the owner, hca, to expand its other san jose hospital, good samaritan. they're worried the change will impact people who have the least amount of resources in that gap will follow the lives of

patients and disproportionately patients who are underinsured or struggle to keep insurance. there are now no level two trauma centers in santa clara county. people who need more advanced care will have to go to a level one trauma center, which is either valley medical or stanford health care. we reached out to hca healthcare regarding the change at rrmc and good samaritan. we're waiting to hear back. previously, hca told us they were making the change due to a decline in utilization. >> resident physicians with sutter health are continuing their demands for a new contract. they were back on the picket line yesterday holding a rally outside california pacific medical center's van nest campus in san francisco. their union has been in negotiations with sutter health for more than nine months. representatives say frontline doctors sometimes work up to 80 hours a week across all four hospital campuses. they are asking for improved work
