mid and upper 60s. let's check in with sue. see those drive times this morning? >> good morning drew and we are taking a look at the bay bridge where the metering lights were turned on about 530 this morning. >> 535 and you are seeing the effects right there. it's stacked up beyond the overcrossing. it's about a ten minute delay to get through the metering lights. then you're looking pretty good until you get to the tunnel. you will slow and be on the brakes through the tunnel and toward san francisco, over to the san mateo bridge. looking pretty busy this morning for this time of the day, and we've got about a 17 minute drive time across the span. you're seeing some of those closer, slower spots coming up and over the altamont, where it is windy this morning. >> thanks, sue. this morning, forward progress has been made on. a fire has been stopped. i should say, on a fire in the foothills of east san jose. this started as three spot fires around 815 last night in the area of quimby road, and the steep terrain is proving to be challenging. firefighters say those three fires totaled 33

acres and containment is at 15%. crews from cal fire san jose fire and santa clara county fire are battling the flames. we don't know if any structures are threatened, and it's unclear if any residents were evacuated. >> happening tonight, there's going to be a listening session for parents to hear from oakland unified about a troubling situation with drinking water at many schools. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is tracking the situation, and gloria, officials are dealing with dangerous levels of lead. what have they told parents so far? >> well, amanda, so far they're telling parents to take an extra water bottle for their children because some of the water that's running through the pipes is not safe to drink. but some parents are upset that the district is just now taking action. yesterday we saw a portable water jug on the playground of hillcrest elementary. district officials say that lead was found in 22 usc campuses. the district published results of lead testing that was done at each campus, and each report shows the testing was done before the new school year started. environmental experts

say that lead is a dangerous metal that can cause significant neurological damage, especially for children. andrea ventura with clean water action says the state or the federal government should step in. >> we totally understand the economic burden this puts on schools, and so we have actually called on the state board to take the lead issues more seriously. >> in a statement, usc said we are fixing any outlet we find that shows lead levels exceeding the district's limit of five parts per billion. to ensure that our students and staff are not exposed to elevated levels of lead when at school from faucets or fountain heads and the hillcrest pta arranged a listening session with the district four board director mike hutchinson for this evening. it's a zoom meeting. it's at 6:30 p.m. and it is a q&a. so the parents can be heard or even asked questions live in the studio. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thank you. gloria. tonight,

it's about a story we've been following most of this month. we're talking about those waymo robo taxis that just won't stop honking in san francisco's soma neighborhood. issued a statement about what was happening, explaining the software makes the driverless taxis honk when another car gets too close. then they deployed two software changes that stopped the honking for a while. but then it came back. and yesterday, our abc seven news team spoke with one neighbor who is now live streaming the lot.

dangerous levels of lead. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is here. gloria, what are parents being asked to do right now? well reggie, the district is asking parents to make sure their kids have a reusable water bottle that they can use at filtered water stations at schools. >> in addition, parents can go to a listening session this evening to get more information. some water fountains at oakland schools are now off limits after district officials say lead was found in 22 usc campuses. the district published results of lead testing done at each campu, and each report shows that the testing was done before this new school year started. ashley long, son, goes to hillcrest. that's one of the schools with some contamination, and she's worried for her child's health and is also frustrated that the district is just now taking action. >> how did this happen over such a short period of time, or were we just not aware? or is there notable information around what the damages are? >> usd sent a statement saying

for unhoused people. this comes as the city faces a legal battle over its homelessness response. the city is focused on the area along mahoney creek path near anderson drive. it's currently an encampment, but just last night, the city council passed a plan to turn it into a sanctioned one. they will use $2.2 million in grant money to pay for resources to support 47 people staying there. >> i'm so pleased that we have this way to move forward on bringing change to the streets right now. >> city council members passed the sanctioned campsite plan unanimously. it came after more than an hour of public comment and discussion. many neighbors raised safety concerns about unhoused people in their area as others called for compassion. >> as a mother, as an individual, as a member of this active member of this community, i no longer feel safe walking down anderson drive.

>> what this project is doing, in my opinion, is it's just perpetuating more of the segregation that we already have. >> a federal judge has issued a restraining order to stop san rafael from sweeping another encampment in town. it's part of a lawsuit brought by the unhoused man who's lived in a spot for years in the south bay. san jose is working toward its own solution to help its unhoused residents. mayor matt mehan recently visited this encampment in san diego to learn how san jose can implement a similar site. it has 400 insulated tents. services include meals, showers, restrooms, and security. >> it was clear that this was a supportive environment where people are getting access to services. they're not worried about the basic things that we all take for granted, but people living on our streets don't have safety access to sanitation, access to three meals a day. the basics. >> the city has identified eight potential sites for smaller,

here. in this case, a super moon where the moon is much closer than usual to earth, and a blue moon, the fourth full moon in a season happened at the same time, and experts say that this event is more common than the northern lights. if you missed monday's moon, there will be another chance to see it tonight. and space is about to send four people on a daring trip into space. billionaire jared isaacman has funded a test mission. polaris dawn will have a four person private citizen crew, which will include isaacman, a former air force pilot and two space engineers. the mission will go to altitudes higher than any human has traveled since nasa's apollo program ended. that was back in the 70s. they will also open the capsule and expose themselves to the vacuum of space. the first time for any private citizen. the group will spend five days aboard a spacex crew dragon capsule. it is slated for launch at 3:30 a.m. eastern time on august 26th. >> bart service is running back
