shot this afternoon not far from campus. this comes on the third day of the school year. abc seven news reporter suzanne fawn is near the scene where it happened. she joins us live with the latest, suzanne. >> so the shooting happened off campus this afternoon. police tell me they still haven't arrested anyone yet. now behind me, the owner of north point market tells me that he recognized the shooting victim and that that is a student across the street around this afternoon. police say they responded to a shooting at north point and polk streets. when they got to the area, they found a teen who had been shot. witnesses say that teen was shot in the shoulder. he was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. the owner of north point market says that teen is a student at galileo high school. he told abc seven that two teens appear to have been involved in some sort of fight right up the street from the store, and it ended in a shooting during lunchtime. we heard from one staff member at galileo high

school directly across the street. she was in the basement with students at the time. >> just got the, the signal over the intercom that we were going into lockdown and sad and a little alarming. >> police officers are working with school staff to make sure the school campus is safe and secure. and according to the school district, the lockdown lasted for an hour. as for the corner market behind me, here, the owner of the market here tells me this is the first time in 15 years he's had to call 9-1-1. live in san francisco, suzanne phan abc seven news. >> suzanne, thanks very much. a judge has issued a new arrest warrant for a woman who has been terrorizing people at parks in san francisco. residents in various neighborhoods say the woman who goes by the name lacie has chased them, threatened to kill them or their children, or yelled other menacing threats. they say it's been happening for years around laurel village and in the inner richmond, and cole valley. the woman has been arrested six times this year.

the latest was last month, but she quickly returned to the streets. >> police can't force her into mental health treatment. it's an issue that we run into with a lot of folks in the city who are suffering. >> something needs to change. i mean, we have to do something differently then what is it that we need to do differently? >> people who have encountered lacie say she has become increasingly aggressive. the public defender's office says they are working to get her support, the support that she needs. >> new developments out of the south bay where late this afternoon, santa clara county announced its purchase of regional medical center in east san jose. the move maintains the area's only trauma center and is considered a major victory for community members. abc seven news south bay reporter zach fuentes has more. >> savor and see. coffins carried by community members were just some of the sites that could be seen outside regional medical center in the last few months. just some of the ways a coalition of patients and advocates fought to keep the community's only trauma center. >> our community needs the

trauma care center on the east side. there is not any other trauma care in the east side at this moment. >> hca healthcare, the company that owns regional medical center, announced plans earlier this year to close the trauma center. then, the plans changed from a full closure to a downgrade in resources. the hospital said that the closure and changes were due to a decline in utilization that downgrade was effective august 12th. but on wednesday, the county made its major announcement. >> the county and hca healthcare have reached a preliminary agreement for the county to acquire regional medical center in east san jose. >> the county now plans to not only restore trauma services, along with stroke and heart attack services, it also plans to restore labor and delivery services that closed back in 2020, something the coalition that worked to save the services calls a win. >> i think it was all those actions of the coalition coming together to use every tool in our toolbox to say, not in our county. >> for now, the county and hca agreed on a $170 million price

tag that comes months after the county shuffled the budget to make up a $250 million deficit. >> the good news is that we have recently received some significant reimbursements from fema associated with our covid 19 activity. that's a one time resource that's just come our way, that will significantly help fund the acquisition of regional. >> the county said it still has formal steps to take to finalize the sale. that includes licensure, state approvals and more negotiations on the final sale price steps. advocates hope are taken with urgency. >> we can't have this take months. we need it to happen immediately because our lives are on the line. >> the county said it hopes to close in the first quarter of 2025. in san jose, zach fuentes, abc seven news. >> up here, he led the golden state warriors to its first championship here in the bay area. and as a player, he was known as the destroyer. but al attles impact in the bay area went far beyond the court. after the break. we're remembering the

the bay area, but al attles was much more than a coach, player, general manager or most recently team ambassador. he truly encompassed the spirit of the organization. the 87 year old passed away yesterday surrounded by family at his bay area home. >> abc seven news reporter ryan curry has a look at his life and truly remarkable legacy. >> i never imagined my name would become synonymous with the warriors throughout my 60 year odyssey, only six warriors have their jerseys retired. >> al attles is one of them. in a franchise of champions, he is held in the highest regard. >> i've always called al attles the noblest warrior of them all. you know, he coached. he played for the team. he coached the team. he was in the front

office. >> attles is a former player and coach who led the franchise to its first title since moving to the bay area in 1975. former chronicle sportswriter chuck nevius says attles broke barriers with the league. >> this is one of the first black coaches in the nba. this was this. this didn't happen. black coaches were not hired. black players played. but there weren't black coaches. and it wasn't easy for him. >> i know a warrior through and through, down to his core. he was drafted by the team in 1960 when they were in philadelphia. he followed them back west and stayed with them well. after he was done playing and coaching, it was the longest stint with one franchise in the history of the nba. >> in terms of personifying what it meant to be an nba player, an nba coach, a warrior. i think he was it. >> he stayed with the warriors to be an ambassador after his playing and coaching career, he was seen at the parades when the warriors won their recent championships with 557 wins. he is the winningest coach in warriors history, even more than steve kerr, who called attles a mentor. >> and when i became coach here,

sideshows and reckless driving. but as abc seven news reporter anser hassan tells us, the effort to keep their streets safe didn't go as planned. >> these sideshow videos show what residents in this oakland neighborhood are up against. >> it's every day. it's every day at 4:00 in the morning. it's every day at 5:00 in the morning, it's all the time. >> juan salcedo has lived in oakland san antonio neighborhood for 30 years. the tire marks run six blocks around his neighborhood. his intersection is across from a middle school and park, so neighbors took the matters into their own hands.

>> we come out, and i try to confront them, and they pulled out guns on me, told me to go back inside my house. it's gotten to the point where we're not scared anymore. we're angry. >> they installed speed bumps to slow down traffic and stop drag racing and tires filled with concrete and dirt to stop the sideshows. and it worked, said salcedo. did this help? big tim. >> huge. i mean, it help in the sense that it prevented those guys from coming in. granted, they went looking for somewhere else, but at least it wasn't here. >> but after an alleged speeding driver hit one of the tires and flipped over, josh rowan, director of oakland's department of transportation, says he had them removed. rowan wasn't available for an interview, but in a statement to abc seven news, he says those traffic calming measures are in violation of city codes and that residents could be liable. >> what can you do? >> on monday, rowan and other city leaders did a walkthrough of the neighborhood with residents. the city says they're looking into whether the rubber speed bumps can be made permanent and are considering a

pilot traffic circle for the neighborhood. salcedo says residents know there are no easy fixes, but says they're going to make sure that the city follows through. >> we get it that there's policies and laws and all that stuff. we understand that. but we're like i said earlier, we're at a point where we're we're we're not scared. we're going to we're angry and we're going to do whatever it takes to turn around, protect our neighborhoods. >> in oakland, anser hassan, abc seven news. >> muniz twin peaks tunnel in san francisco will close for eight days starting tomorrow. now, that means muni metro riders on the k, l, and m lines will need to take bus shuttles between downtown and the west side of the city. muni metro trains will run between embarcadero and castro street in the market street subway. bus shuttles will operate from church street station on the k, l, and m lines. the closure will allow muni to do tunnel inspections and carry out some maintenance work that needs to be done. it should reopen next friday. >> all right, let's get a check

on our weather as we take a live look outside. hard to believe that a little rain is in the forecast. >> it is hard to believe. it's so lovely outside. >> abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel is here with the full forecast. >> sandy. yeah. dan and ama. you know that saying enjoy while it lasts? because changes are underway. here's the first change from our sutro tower camera. the fog has rolled in and it is going to continue to expand. the sea breeze is in. temperatures are down by nine degrees in napa, five degrees cooler, oakland, san jose, san francisco. and that trend is going to continue. winds are onshore gusting to 28 at sfo 20. out towards rio vista and that is just the beginning of what we are expecting. here is the upper level low. that is pretty deep for this time of year. it is going to continue to drop southward and as it does, temperatures come down even more the next couple of days. and we have the possibility of some wet weather. now up to our north, they're expecting the potential for some mudslides, debris flows, flash flooding. so around
