out there and we will see temperatures below average this afternoon. it is very windy out there in spots, and when you have wind like this early on in the morning, you can bet we're ushering in some cooler weather. and that's what we're going to see later on today. temperatures. right now we are in the upper 50s to the lower 60s, currently 64, in hayward. good morning. 61 in redwood city. we're in the 50s in the north bay, low to mid 60s inland right now. so take a look at this inland forecast. believe it or not, staying in the 70s all afternoon. so cooler air is moving in. lots of sunshine out there around the bay. shoreline temperatures are mainly in the low 70s. we have a lot of fog along the coast right now. some of that is spilling into the bay shoreline, so it's a mix of sun and clouds throughout the afternoon and then along the coast, it's a pretty cloudy day. we'll keep those temperatures in the low and mid 60s. let's check in with amanda and see those drive times. >> good morning drew. yeah a live look at the golden gate bridge this morning. it is clear. it is quiet. there is no fog in your way here either. so if you're headed into or out of

days, and abc news will continue special live coverage of the democratic national convention leading up to the acceptance speech tonight. it all begins at 6:00, right here on abc seven. donald trump may soon have a new high profile supporter, amanda. abc news sources say rfk jr may drop out of the race as soon as tomorrow. >> yeah, reggie, that probable decision to drop out was hinted at by rfk jr. s running mate nicole shanahan, earlier this week on a podcast, but sources are now telling abc news an endorsement of trump would come with a price. rfk jr wants a position on trump's cabinet. it's an idea trump seems to be open to. >> i like him a lot. i respect him a lot. i probably would if something like that would happen. he's a very different kind of a guy, very smart guy. and yeah, i would be honored by that endorsement. >> abc news is reporting rfk jr also reached out to the harris campaign with the same offer, but that went nowhere. >> polling shows rfk voters favor harris over trump, but

would rather vote for someone else entirely. rfk jr says he will be, quote, addressing the nation tomorrow in phoenix. trump is expected to be in arizona today. back to you at the desk. >> thank you. amanda in the south bay this morning, community members and advocates are celebrating a very big win. santa clara county is saying it will be buying regional medical center and plans to restore critical health service that the current owner cut. this is a story we've been following for months now. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez joining us live. gloria, this is a huge development, but still a lot yet to be done. >> there is kumasi. the county says it still has to take formal steps to finalize that sale. and that includes licensure, state approvals. also, more negotiations on the final sale price. for now, the county and hca agreed on a $175 million price tag. yesterday, santa clara county made its major announcement that they reached a preliminary agreement to acquire regional medical center in east san jose. the county plans to restore trauma services along

with stroke and heart attack services. it also plans to restore labor and delivery services that closed back in 2020. hca healthcare, the company that owns regional medical center, announced plans earlier this year to close the trauma center because of a decline in utilization. then the plans changed from a full closure to a downgrade in resources on august 12th. a coalition of patients and advocates fought to keep the community's only trauma center open through demonstrations with community members carrying coffins. the acquisition comes months after the county shuffled the budget to make up a $250 million deficit. >> the good news is that we have recently received some significant reimbursements from fema associated with our covid 19 activity. that's a one time resource that's just come our way, that will significantly help fund the acquisition of regional. >> advocates are hoping the sale

happens quickly, not taking months, saying that lives are on the line and the county says it hopes to close in the first quarter of 2025. this is a huge victory for the coalition of patients and advocates that fought to keep the trauma center open. live in the studio gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thanks, gloria. 509 this morning we'll take you to the accuweather forecast. a live look at sfo this morning. we do have cloudy skies above the airport right now 55 degrees with those clouds high humidity. winds out of the west are pretty breezy right now and that will bring in cooler weather this afternoon. the travel forecast today. we will have some showers in parts of the pacific northwest, coastal areas of washington and oregon. lovely in socal today, 81 with morning clouds to sun. very quiet across the upper midwest and the south. look at the san antonio 108 today. chicago looking lovely at 79 in the northeast, is still feels like fall today. we're in the 70s from new york to boston.

some showers developing later on this afternoon around tampa and miami. could have some thunderstorms there. back here at home. here we go. low pressure is now diving from the north to northern california. that's bringing the winds this morning. cooler weather this afternoon. in fact, future weather showing you a fair amount of cloud cover out there. daytime highs. we're going to drop about five, if not ten degrees compared to yesterday. the fog is pretty persistent along the coast and across the city. today, inland, we're staying in the 70s for daytime highs. the winds are going to be stronger today than they were yesterday. you'll find those winds gusting about 25 to 35mph. as that low pressure gets closer to us, it kicks up those winds and it will bring in that cooler weather. so it feels a lot cooler than yesterday. we'll hit about 80 in concord, 76 in san jose, 67 in the city, 71 in oakland. it gets even cooler here tomorrow. reggie, we'll show you those numbers coming up in just a few minutes. >> thank you. drew. honoring a

more than 60 years in the warriors organization, starting as a player for the philadelphia warriors. as a player, he was known for his toughness, earning the nickname the destroyer. he led golden state warriors to their first title in 1975, and served as general manager, advisor, and ambassador. attles had been battling health issues in recent years, and of course, to his friends and those who knew him, he will be sorely missed. >> just a constant presence around the organization. and when i became coach here, one of the first things i did was invite him in to speak to the team. and uh- al is basically mr. warrior. >> i think of him so much of the heart and soul of this

taken by fentanyl. >> if we just make a difference for one person, that's all that really matters. >> one of them is trevor leopold. he died of an accidental overdose in 2019 while a freshman at sonoma state university. his mother, michelle, turned fierce advocate, partnering with public health departments across the bay area, hosting naloxone training events and countless speaking engagements, most recently returning to sonoma state. >> we got to talk to the incoming freshmen and transfer students about trevor's life and his death, and at the end, they asked if anybody uh- who learned something from this talk and everybody raised their hand. one push, and that is one whole dose. >> and the dea wants more parents doing more talking. >> today is the perfect day to have that conversation with your kids, pointing to the latest data from the cdc showing drug overdoses are now the number one killer of americans between the ages of 18 and 45.

>> let them know how deadly this is. >> it really is. one pill can kill, and it's now easier to access than ever. social media is now superhighway for fentanyl distribution. >> the dea says cartel members and street dealers are using encrypted apps to advertise organized delivery and get paid all in one device. >> you need to know what they're doing on social media. you need to know these are people out there that are targeting them. they look at them for profit. >> counterfeit pills infiltrating the market. seven out of ten pills tested by the dea have potentially lethal doses of fentanyl. >> you have to know if you're buying a pill on social media. it's not going to be a legitimate pill. it's going to be a fentanyl pill. >> tara campbell, abc seven news. >> this morning, a bay area woman is dealing with a nightmare that no bride wants to even think about. days before her wedding, her dress disappeared. akilah mcgonagle bought the dress from a bridal shop in pittsburgh. it was still there for alterations, but when

she went to check on it, the shop and everything inside gone. mwongozo was able to make contact with the woman who ran the shop. she got an address. she was told to pick up the dress at that place, and when she showed up, no one was there. despite the stress, manguso is trying to stay positive, saying it could have been worse. she almost brought her fiance's tux to that same shop. >> that was almost gone too, because i took his suit to her to get altered. i took also my goddaughter's dress to her to get altered, but because she was taking a while with my stuff, i decided to go somewhere else and we got it back quickly. thank god i didn't leave that there. otherwise i would have lost my veil. that and everything else. >> so now we have reached out to the bridal shop, but we have not heard back. and i've been saying her name wrong the whole time. mwongozo excuse me, has had an outpouring of support. her friends have offered up dresses.

a stranger on facebook saw the story, sent the dress to san diego, where she's going to get married. despite all of this, mwongozo says she's excited to marry her best friend september 1st. >> we are exactly one month away from the start of fall, but today starbucks is launching its fall menu, and that means the return of its pumpkin spice latte. this is the earliest that it's been back in stores. last year, it debuted on august 24th. so just two days later and new this year on the menu is the iced apple crisp nondairy cream chai. there's also a pumpkin cream cold brew. starbucks says roughly 10% of its overall sales come from seasonal staples. >> okay, here's my reasoning here. okay. tell it. do it now in august when it feels kind of cool out there. okay. because september october is our summer. and that's when you do not want okay to taste like pumpkin. so get it the first week and then you loop back around and then november. exactly. >> come back around.

be below average. so hang on to that cool feeling. it's a different story on sunday. sunday is beautiful. it's wall to wall sunshine and temperatures are much warmer. so for outdoor activities, sunday is certainly the better of the two days. this weekend. an update on the tropics. we are still watching an area of clouds right now. the national hurricane center is forecasting that later on this afternoon, this will become hector, a tropical storm. the latest path on this system is getting higher confidence that it is sending itself south of the big island. when you see these lines clustered very close together, that gives us high confidence on the track. and the center of the storm will stay south of the big island. but still get some rain. not nearly as much rain as we thought yesterday, but still some areas, especially maui county and the big island, could see a couple of inches of rain. but thankfully the center of the storm will stay well south of the big island. back here at home, we're finding sunshine inland. look at these temperatures 70. with the wind picking up this afternoon. that feels nice. temperature wise. it's a mix of sun and clouds all

san francisco police say she poses a threat to the public. a judge has issued a new arrest warrant for her. people who have encountered lacey say she's become increasingly aggressive. san francisco mother jenna p says that lacey screams and chases people and their children around city parks, threatening murder and shouting other vicious attacks. jenna says it's been happening since 2020. lacey has been arrested six times this year and the latest was last month. but she keeps getting released back onto the streets. >> police can't force her into mental health treatment. it's an issue that we run into with a lot of folks in the city who are suffering. >> if that's the case, then something needs to change. i mean, we have to do something differently. then what is it that we need to do differently? >> neighbors created fliers initially to post in city parks to notify people about lacey's actions, and now neighbors have connected online to report incidents and also share information about where she is. lacey is believed to be unhoused, and anybody who sees her is encouraged not to engage

with her, but rather call 911. the public defender's office says it's not jail time that she needs, but support services. live in the studio gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thank you gloria. today, students at galileo high school in san francisco can reach out to wellness staff for help. a day after a student was shot near campus. that shooting forced the school to go into a lockout mode yesterday. that means school continued, but no one was allowed on campus. the shooting happened at north point and polk streets during school lunch time. witnesses say a student was shot in the shoulder. they were taken to the hospital. they do not have life threatening injuries. the incident frightened students and staff. >> just got the, the signal over the intercom that we were going into lockdown. and sad and a little alarming. >> police have not said if the shooter was also a student in the east bay. >> neighbors of one oakland

community have taken matters into their own hands to prevent sideshows and reckless driving. but the effort to keep their streets safe has not gone as planned. this oakland neighborhood has been plagued by constant sideshows, so residents got together to set up speed bumps and fill tires with concrete and dirt to try to stop them. initially, the plans worked, but the city had to remove those obstacles due to city code violations. >> i get it that there's policies and laws and all that stuff. we understand that, but we're like i said earlier, we're at a point where we're we're we're not scared. we're we're angry. and we're going to do whatever it takes to turn around and protect our neighborhood. >> city leaders visited that neighborhood recently. they say they're looking into the possibility of making permanent speed bumps. >> us job growth during the past year was much weaker than initially estimated, according to new data from the labor department. monthly payroll figures overstated job growth by
