airport. the outage began saturday. thousands have been impacted. officials said they don't know what the cyber attackers were after and don't believe any critical passenger information was leaked. this is, of course, a major test of what will likely be a record breaking labor day travel week. tsa expecting to screen more than 17 million passengers between this thursday and next wednesday, up 8.5% from last year. as for the cyber attack in seattle, still no word on when systems will return to normal. their phone and baggage systems were also impacted. alaska airlines telling its passengers to pack light, avoid checking the bag if possible and arrive early. the port of seattle and a hand full of federal agencies are investigating. also impacted by the cyber outage, the port of seattle. their website and their phone services are still down. gio? >> gio: thank goodness this was caught early but it's critical that we find out exactly what happened here. this cannot happen at u.s. airports. >> overseas now. russia launching a anywaying wide attack across ukraine one of the largest of the war. ian pannell joins us live with

details. good morning, ian. >> reporter: good morning. ever since ukraine launched its ground incursion into russia about three weeks ago we've been expecting a strong response from the kremlin. looks like it's happening right now. a massive nationwide attack under way across ukraine. president zelenskyy saying it's one of the biggest of the 2 1/2 year long war. russia apparently firing around 100 drones, more than 100 missiles. things keep changing a bit. mainly targeting though ukraine's already damaged water plant. in kyiv residents seeking shelter under ground. air defenses shooting down many of the missiles and drones. as you know, i just returned from ukraine. what you hear a lot is frustration about the limits imposed by the white house and others on what ukraine can do with the long range weapons and fighter jets that it's been given, saying it can't properly

the verge of collapse again, israeli forces issuing new evacuation orders for a 15 square mile humanitarian zone in gaza. an explosion causing havoc. people fleeing the facility, the only functioning hospital in central gaza in panic. the fighting closing in on one area where a mother is facing a sixth move in two months. >> we are not among any responses. as the idf expands its offensive in gaza, over the weekend israel launching what they were preemptive strikes on southern lebanon. lebanese health officials saying three died and two were injured. hezbollah forces in lebanon firing 340 rockets into northern israel. israel saying one idf soldier died after being hit by

fragments from an iron dome intercepter. the idf said most of the intended targets were in the north with others in central israel. among those a complex of telecommunications. tensions between israel and hezbollah might be relatively stable for now, but leaders on both sides have signaled they won't back down. whit? >> whit: britt, thank you. let's bring in our chief global affairs correspondent martha raddatz. this could have major implications for the u.s. presence in the region. >> reporter: the u.s. military's had a very visible, very robust presence in the region, with two carrier battle groups. that means aircraft carriers, with supporting combat ships and fighter jets. this morning the pentagon making clear those ships will stay in the region. the pentagon had also announced publicly that we had a guided

missile submarine in the waters within firing range of lebanon and iran. it is very rare for the u.s. to make such an announcement. but these war ships are seen as not only security backup for israel, but as a deterrent. while this morning it looks like a wider war has been averted, iran itself has still not retaliated for the assassination of a senior hamas leader visiting tehran last month. that seems to be put on hold, as iran decides exactly how to respond, given they have new leadership and they also worry about the implications of a wider war, given u.s. dominance. gio? >> gio: tensions are very high in the region. all right, martha. thank you for your reporting. now the race for the white house, as the trump team packs its schedule this week with events in battleground states. and vice president harris enjoying a post convention boost raising more than $500 million in just over a month.

erielle reshef is here now with more. good morning, erielle. >> good morning, sade. there have been several reported cases of west nile virus here in new york city so far. authorities will be out spraying the city tonight and tomorrow with a mosquito population growing, health officials are warning to remain vigilant. this morning several towns across the middle east on alert. some even closing outdoor areas and issuing curfews to prevent the spread of potentially dangerous mosquito born illnesses. the country's well known infectious disease expert, dr. anthony fauci hospitalized after contracting west nile virus. the 83-year-old now home and expected to make a full recovery. the cdc saying west nile has been detected in more than 30 states. experts warning rising temperatures and rainfall are boosting the mosquito population, leading to an increased risk for mosquito born infection. >> given the fact that the

sadly, permanent. the men authorities believe are responsible could face up to ten years in prison. this morning officials identifying 37-year-old wyatt fain and peyton costmer who allegedly pushed the rock formations over a cliff's edge back in april. the pair charged with one count of injury and deprivation of government property and one count of aiding and abetting. stones throughout the park are known to be 140 million years old. u.s. marshals in nevada confirmed to abc news the viral video that outraged park goers and authorities alike helped them identify the vandals behind the incident. the attorney for costmer telling abc news that his client has plead not guilty and there were no signs posted at the entrance prohibited pushing rocks or that it was a federally protected site.

>> now to the spotlight on princess kate's outing over the weekend. one of the few times she's been seen in public sin her cancer diagnosis. maggie rulli joins us from london with more. good morning, maggie. >> reporter: hey, sade, good morning. we got that rare glimpse of princess kate over the weekend. it's only the third time we've seen her in public since she announced her cancer diagnosis back in march. we saw the princess attending church in scotland with other members of the royal family, including her husband, prince william, and the king and queen. guys, balmoral is always known as being a special place for the royal family. it's a place they normally vacation in every summer.
