saying in part, quote, we are deeply troubled by the remarks made in the video. the comments made are contrary to our mission to serve all members of our community. the union says it will fully cooperate with the investigation. >> a change is coming to mammograms next month, one that could have major implications for how women approach breast cancer screenings. soon, doctors will be required to notify women when they have dense breast tissue that puts them at higher risk for cancer and mammograms may have trouble catching it. in tonight's deep dive, we're exploring new research on a different approach to early detection. reporter denise dador from our sister station in los angeles breaks it down. >> when a doctor looks at a mammogram, there are no gray areas on x-rays. >> fiberglass or tissue looks white and fat is black. the more white on the x ray, the higher the density. >> that's why women with dense breast tissue pose a challenge to radiologists. >> breast cancers also appear as white on the mammogram. >> doctor jason mckillop, director of breast imaging at radnet and breast link, says
11:18 pm
half of women have dense breasts. not only are their mammograms more challenging to read, breast density leads to a slightly higher risk of breast cancer. so should these women undergo additional screening? a new study looked at the pros and cons of these women getting supplemental breast mris. >> breast mri is the most sophisticated and most sensitive uh- imaging utility that we have in our entire arsenal of imagin. >> in a new jama internal medicine study, researchers estimate current mammography guidelines can save 7 to 11 lives per 1000 women. they found supplementing with breast mris could save an additional life, resulting in 10% more lives saved. >> there's a significant uptick in cancers detected, as we expect, but widespread mris came at an increased risk of 40 to 80%. >> more false positives, which can be stressful, time consuming, and lead to expensiv, unnecessary testing, including biopsies. >> we would be scrutinizing a lot more benign things than we otherwise would be.
11:19 pm
>> while researchers support additional screening, doctor mckillop says women should ask their doctors, do i have dense breasts? do you recommend additional screenings? and what is my personal risk of breast cancer? one screening doctor mckillop recommends for women with dense breasts is a breast ultrasound. in addition to yearly mammograms. >> breast ultrasound is a handheld unit readily available, very cost effective. >> denise snyder, abc seven news. >> all right. tech news. apple is set to announce its new iphone 16 next month. you can expect a significant siri update and a slew of new camera and ai powered features. we spoke with abrar al-harthi, a tech reporter with cnet, on our 3 p.m. show about what's to come. >> if you're like me, you've kind of been waiting for siri to get a little bit more conversational, a little bit more useful. that's something that'll be happening with the rollout of apple intelligence. you can also have ai powered writing tools. so if you're drafting a message, it's kind of baked in similar to what other companies like google and samsung have rolled out
11:20 pm

11:21 pm
right now. half moon bay reporting four mile visibility with fog and mist. because that marine layer is getting compressed. now with that ridge building in, we are expecting minor to moderate heat risk tomorrow. so if you are particularly sensitive to the heat, you will want to keep this in mind. as we look at a live picture from our mount tam cam, you can certainly see the fog around. it is going to be beach weather tomorrow. in case you want to escape the heat, uv index will be very high. so yes. sunscreen. whether morning fog to sun, mild to warm day 74 at stinson beach. getting you up to 83 degrees in santa cruz tomorrow. looking at our tower cameras right now, you can see that shallow marine layer right over san francisco from sutro tower. certainly a very foggy golden gate bridge. and you can see it from pier 39 and from our mount tam cam as well. so it is near the coast. it is really going to start off your morning with fluctuating visibility. so watch out in the morning 50s to 70s right now. here's another gorgeous view of san francisco
11:22 pm
with that fog though that's not so gorgeous. so be careful out there overnight tonight. dense coastal fog tomorrow summer sizzle is with us. and for the holiday weekend it's going to be cooling closer to average. today's highs were mid 60s to mid 90s a good 5 to 10 degrees above average. and that trend will continue tomorrow. in the morning we'll have fog and a little bit of mist near the coast and around the bay. 50s 60s by 10:00 the fog is starting to pull away from the bay, still sitting near the coast, but you can see how quickly things are warming up away from the coastline. by the early afternoon, you're already popping up into the 90s. your morning temperatures, 50s, 60s. watch out for the fog once again, and it is a warm to hot afternoon for your tuesday 93 in san jose, 95 los gatos in the south bay on the peninsula, 90 in redwood city, 70 degrees in pacifica, downtown san francisco, 77 degrees in the north bay. i think you could get away with shorts 95, santa rosa 91, in san rafael in the east bay, mid 80s around oakland.

perhaps we'll see brandon aiyuk and trent williams on the field by then. but right now, who knows. they're both in contract disputes. time obviously is running out. aiyuk has made a lot of noise on social media. williams, though, is the more important player. probably a good idea to keep brock purdy upright this season? aiyuk, 26 years old, had more than 1300 receiving yards and seven touchdowns last year. the question why is this taking so long? even 40 niners. hall of famer steve young on knbr said he's getting frustrated. >> brandon's now sitting in front of a contract that's probably for niners have stretched as much as they possibly can. they don't want to set the market. they don't want to do it. they don't think it's the time and then brandon doesn't know. he already said he's not going to get i'm not going to i demand to be traded i won't. oh, no, i don't want to go there. i don't want to do that. and so now he's in a bind and it's probably hard for him after all the chit chat and chatter to do it. but in the end, what is the team feeling? what is happening? that's all they talk about every day. it's worn them out through the through the through the
