right now that has some form of cloud cover. half moon bay and that visibility is low along the coast with that fog down to a quarter of a mile there. temperatures. we are starting out. get you going in the low 50s to the low 60s. so a little bit of a chill this morning. but those temperatures warm pretty quickly over the next couple of hours. so sunrise here at about 630 this morning. we'll look inland first. and you can see how hot it gets. upper seconds today. so hotter than yesterday. today is the hottest day on the seven day forecast. 1 or 2 places likely topping out at 100 later on today. inland around the bay shoreline, it is warm to hot, 80s to low 90s with full sunshine out there along the coast. right now we do have that fog banked up. it will be a mix of sun and clouds throughout the afternoon and highs in the upper 60s. let's check in with amanda. see those drive times this morning? >> hi, drew. a live look at the east bay. this is from our emeryville camera. you can see a crowded commute for those headed westbound toward the bay bridge. at this hour. from highway four to san francisco. that drive

will take you about 47 minutes. and then a mass transit alert. ace train one is running about ten minutes late, but the good news bart and caltrain seem to be doing fine. then to the golden gate. this is a live look. a dense fog advisory is in effect. traffic is flowing freely in both directions and will leave you here with your overall map. you can see that typical slowdown along the altamont pass. reggie aqui. >> amanda. thank you. a terrifying situation yesterday in the south bay. a driver was speeding through south san jose on the wrong side of the freeway. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez has more information on the deadly crash that followed. >> good morning. reggie. a 47 year old woman and a 14 year old boy from san jose were killed in that crash. authorities say the wrong way driver was rushed to the hospital. it's unclear if he's in custody right now. police got reports that someone was driving a truck. the wrong way on state route 85, in san jose yesterday afternoon. chp says a pickup then collided head on with a white tesla suv.

authorities believe the truck was heading south in the northbound lanes for several miles. the driver is a 39 year old man with florida license plates. he suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital. authorities are still investigating why he was going the wrong way. >> we could have a situation, a case where we have some level or type of impairment. as i said at this point, we can't say that's undetermined in in this specific case, whether impairment is playing a role in this particular crash. >> chp diverted traffic from 85 to northbound 87 while they investigated that crash. the freeway reopened hours later, around 8:00 on monday evening, and the victims have not been named yet. chp is asking anybody who saw anything to contact them. live in the studio. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thank you. gloria. now in the east bay, police are looking for a driver who hit a child in a

stroller and then took off. the child had to go to the hospital, but thankfully is expected to survive. the crash happened in berkeley just before eight yesterday morning. it was near dover street and alcatraz avenue. you can see it here on the map. it's just a few blocks south of the ashby bart station. now, police say someone was pushing the stroller when the crash happened. the driver took off going south on dover street, and neighbors told us they heard it all happen. >> i heard a crash. i heard a scream. i heard a baby cry. and i looked out and i saw the stroller in the on the ground in the street. >> police say the driver is a man, but they don't have any other details about him or his car. >> now to your voice. your vote. vice president kamala harris and former president trump are targeting battleground states as they prepare for next month's debate. trump picked up an endorsement from 2020 democratic presidential candidate tulsi gabbard while campaigning in michigan. gabbard is now an

independent, and she's helping the former president prepare for his first debate against vice president harris. fresh off the dnc, vice president harris will be on a bus tour through georgia starting tomorrow. you can watch the abc news presidential debate tuesday, september 10th, right here on abc seven. our coverage starts at 5 p.m. the debate begins at six. >> today, the san mateo county board of supervisors is expected to voice support for prop 36. this is a measure that's on the november ballot. it would implement stronger penalties for retail theft and drug crimes. now, among its supporters is elizabeth walker. her son colin died after taking cocaine laced with fentanyl. revised laws would allow the person who sold colin the drugs to face murder charges. however, the proposal is facing opposition from criminal justice reform advocates and progressive lawmakers, including governor gavin newsom. >> my son was murdered. someone put poisoning into what he should not have been taking. like we're criminalizing homelessness. >> we're criminalizing poverty.

is that what america is about? is that what california is about? >> the board of supervisors will vote on a resolution to support prop 36 later this morning. if you heard the sound of dirt bikes over the weekend, either in san francisco, oakland, maybe along the bay bridge, you were not alone. the loud and dangerous driving is angering neighbors who say this is a symptom of a larger problem. there were several scenes of chaos on the streets. people on bikes were racing through san francisco. as you can see in this video. chp and the san francisco police department tell us they're investigating these, these cases and others. on july 26th, sfpd used a drone to keep an eye on two riders who they then witnessed breaking into cars. they made an arrest and seized the vehicles involved in that case. still, one witness who saw dozens of dirt bike riders swarm the area near the ferry building on sunday, says more needs to be done. >> they'll keep doing it unless the car or the bike goes away

and they have consequences to follow. >> dirt bikes are illegal to ride on highways and city streets without certain modifications. chp says officers did pursue riders during the incidents on sunday, but they were not able to catch them. >> a tiktok video has led to an investigation into a 20 year veteran of the alameda county fire department, who was caught on camera using racist language. >> the firefighter was off duty at the time of the incident. it's come to our attention that some language was used during the interaction that does not align with the values and standards we uphold as an organization. such behavior is not representative of who we are or the department or our values we strive to embody every day. >> i want to see the viral tiktok video shows the firefighter off duty at the time, making a racist comment during a road rage incident. the other driver is now talking about this.

>> i'd like to say, you know, we get respected. i mean, everybody gets respected, not just browns, blacks, whites, yellow, purple. it doesn't it doesn't matter. you know, we all need to get respected. and, we we're living together. we, you know, we're not living apart. we're all living together. today the firefighter is now on administrative leave while the incident is being investigated. >> the fire chief says there could be disciplinary action depending on the outcome of the probe. also, the president of the firefighters union issued a response to the investigation, saying in part, quote, we are deeply troubled by the remarks made in the video. the comments made are contrary to our mission to serve all members of our community. the union says it will fully cooperate with the investigation. >> cal fire has transformed an old coast guard airplane into the department's newest air tanker. the c-130 hercules has been refurbished, and it's now the fastest of the department's airborne fleet. it's capable of

carrying 4000 gallons of fire retardant. cal fire will eventually have seven c-130s placed across the state for faster response. >> looking at the act, thanks to my mic on the accuweather forecast showing you it is lovely out there this morning. >> a live look, our exploratorium camera showing you we have our sun getting up here, a light chop on the bay waters. it is going to be a warm to hot afternoon. today is the hottest day we have on the seven day forecast, so looking at highs today versus average, the first column is where we'll go this afternoon. upper 90s near 100. the second column is our typical daytime highs in the 70s and 80s. so we're about 10 to 12 degrees above average. this afternoon. in most areas it will be a warm august day. here's future weather. we do warm up fast today into the 90s, right around lunchtime in our hottest areas inland, 70s and 80s widespread around the bay shoreline. it's a mix of sun and

clouds today along the coast, very similar to yesterday. we'll keep those highs in the 60s and 70s there. so today is the hottest day on the seven-day forecast, 84 in oakland. we'll go to 93 in san jose, 74 in the city, 92 in napa, 98 the high in concord, the three day forecast will show you from here on out the next couple of afternoons. we do gradually cool off heading into the holiday weekend. we will find temperatures closer to average. we'll preview that coming up on the seven day in a few minutes. >> kumasi thank you drew. amazon moving into a new massive fulfillment center in san francisco. we have the new details about that. plus runners who took part in a local half marathon are now being compensated for the major mistake organizers made. and the stern grove festival association, behind the free music festival, now suing the city of san francisco. the details next

and compensation for a mistake made over the running route. so back in july, nearly 4000 runners were in san francisco for a half marathon, but many runners during the event noticed that something was off. well, it turned out the calculated map was just 12.6 miles long. instead of the 13.1 that it was supposed to be, and that mistake left many runners deeply disappointed in the race. sfgate

is reporting organizers put out an apology and offered runners half off their 2025 half marathon. the stern grove festival association is suing the city of san francisco over a disastrous water main break. it happened back in 2021. that water main ruptured and it forced the association to cancel its final concert of the summer. it featured oakland's tower of power and rapper too short. according to the suit, the association is seeking nearly $336,000 in damages for the lost concert revenue and for the repairs it had to make to the facility. a city. the city attorney's spokesperson says the city has not been served with that lawsuit. new details amazon's latest proposal for a fulfillment center in san francisco's showplace square neighborhood has been redesigned. it comes after some feedback from the city's planning department. amazon purchased the six acre site, located at 907th street, back in 2020 for about $200 million,

according to the chronicle. the project will house a 2500 square foot commercial space with more than 13,000ft■!s of outdoor spa. that outdoor space is expected to have tables and benches, along with overhead canopies for public use. an employee you may have seen at sfo has been named the tsa's top dog. balwani won the tsa cutest canine contest. the five year old german shorthaired pointer screens for explosives at sfo. tsa employees narrowed the original field of 87 positively cute contenders to a final four canine. the public then voted on social media for the winner. barney will now be featured on the cover of the tsa's 2025 canine calendar that comes out in december. now to the world of fashion. louis vuitton, dior, prada and now bart, best known for its trains. the agency is now making a name for itself in the fashion

industry. an upcoming runway fashion show will feature outfits made out of these. these phased out bart paper tickets and created by local fashion design students. schools taking part include the oakland school of the arts high school, city college of san francisco, and san francisco state. this free fashion show is going to be held at the rockridge station parking lot on september 14th. i am interested to see what the fashions look like because you have to be very creative to transform these. yeah, it's like one of those unconventional materials challenges on reality tv like, hey, here's a bunch of make it happen and make it look good. and then the models have to, like, make it happen down the runway. >> you got to sell the garment. >> yeah. >> i don't feel like nostalgic about those tickets. so you do. okay. yeah. okay. >> why do you. all right. you've had. i think being born and raised here, too, seeing that, i know that people i've had

the headliner, elton john. he dropped out and he's going to be replaced with this person. i'm coming up, so you better get this party started. actually, two acts are going to replace elton john pink and the band imagine dragons will headline the concert. organizers only said due to unforeseen circumstances. elton john is no longer able to perform at dream

fest. the concert is set for september 18th at oracle park. speakers at the dreamforce conference include kate hudson, matthew mcconaughey, dev patel and will.i.am. the demolition date is set for the third oldest hotel along the las vegas strip. the tropicana is scheduled to be imploded on october 9th. the new ace stadium will be built at that site, according to online publication las vegas review-journal. a drone and fireworks show to celebrate the hotel will happen before the implosion on october 8th. however, the county still needs to approve the permit for the collapse of the building. the construction for the a's future ballpark is expected to start in april, and will take about three years to build. and speaking of that, the a's may be moving to a minor league baseball stadium in the interim, but they'll be charging major league prices season tickets for premium seats are on sale for 15 to $20,000. that's about $200 per game in oakland. similar to i should say, per game in oakland.

thought yesterday was warm. today will be even hotter. here is a live look from our east bay hills camera. you can see we do have fog spilling through the golden gate bridge into parts of the east bay this morning. foggy parts along the coast. you look at current sky conditions. right now. we do have a mix of stars and clouds out there across the city, but most areas reporting clear skies right now. half moon bay is a problem spot right now, not only because of the fog, but we have low visibility down to zero miles along the coast. currently temperatures right now will get you going. we're in the low 50s to the low 60s, so we have our morning chill with us, but temperatures do warm very quickly over the next couple of hours. we'll take a look inland. first you see those temperatures just soar throughout the next couple of hours, later on into the afternoon. we're into the upper 90s inland. it's a hot afternoon around the bay. shoreline will be in the 80s and low 90s with lots of sunshine. no heat advisories in effect, but it will be very warm this afternoon. now, along the coast we are dealing with that dense fog. the afternoon will feature a mix of sun and clouds out there, and daytime highs in the upper 60s. let's check in with

amanda. see those drive times tomorrow? >> hi, drew. we're going to start off with our current drive times, beginning with that typical slowdown along the altamont pass. at 58 minutes from tracy to dublin, dublin to mission boulevard south. that drive will take you about 19 minutes, then 101 to cupertino. 16 minutes our overall map showing you a few trouble spots across the bay area. as i mentioned, that typical slowdown along the altamont pass. but i will bring you into the city. we're talking about southbound 101 connector at octavia street. there's a solo crash versus the center divide there. drivers in the area will notice half of the car is above the guardrail. it's only really causing a minor backup at this point, bringing speeds down to about 14mph. so just a heads up there. let's get back to you. kumasi. >> thank you. amanda. san jose police are looking for information about a wrong-way driver who was seen speeding in the wrong direction on a south san jose freeway before crashing head on into a car and killing two people. following the story

as abc seven news reporter gloria. reporter. >> good morning. kumasi. chp is asking anybody who saw what happened to contact them. they're still trying to figure out why the driver was going the wrong way on the freeway for nearly ten minutes before slamming into a tesla, killing the two people inside. a 47 year old woman and a 14 year old boy from san jose were killed in this crash on state route 85. police got reports that someone was driving a truck south in the northbound lanes of state route 85 yesterday afternoon. chp says a pickup then collided head on with a white tesla suv on northbound 85 south of 87, in san jose. the driver suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital. he's 39 and has florida license plates. >> we're going to have to wait until we are able to complete some more investigation on this specific crash before we can say why this driver was driving the wrong way. >> northbound 85 was closed while they investigated the crash, but it reopened by about

8:00 monday evening. now it's still unclear if the driver is in custody. i've reached out to police to get updates. of course. we'll let you know when we have new information on this. live in the studio, gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thank you. gloria. your voice, your vote. former president donald trump still trying to build momentum during his swing state tour this week, while vice president kamala harris is gearing up to get back on the campaign trail. a man is tracking that for us from the live desk. >> yeah, reggie, we're now just under 70 days away from election day and former president donald trump visited michigan yesterday and picked up another endorsement. former former congresswoman and 2020 presidential candidate tulsi gabbard announced her support for mr. trump. while they both attended a national guard conference in detroit. gabbard, now an independent, is helping mr. trump prepare for his first debate against vp harris. the former president spoke yesterday after honoring service members killed three years ago in afghanistan during the u.s.

withdrawal. he took aim at the biden administration for the chaos that played out. >> we'll get the resignations of every single senior official who touched the afghanistan calamity to be on my desk at noon on inauguration day. >> meanwhile, fresh off the dnc vice president kamala harris will be on a bus tour through georgia starting tomorrow. her campaign released a new ad this week, pitching her vision for the economy. the harris campaign, also a part of a new lawsuit in georgia democrats filed to make election certification mandatory up to a week after election day in the state. the majority of the state's election board is held by republicans, who were recently praised by mr. trump for their actions ahead of the election. kumasi. >> thanks, amanda. this morning, there is new information in the contentious race for the 16th congressional district seat. a federal election commission complaint has been filed against candidate evan low, accusing him of not reporting in-kind

contributions. abc seven news south bay reporter zach fuentes has more on the accusations and the reaction. >> heightened tensions in one of the most watched political campaigns, the race for the district 16 congressional seat between sam liccardo and evan low. now, this weekend and ravel, the former federal election commission chair, has filed an fec complaint against evan low. >> someone in the campaign of sam liccardo asked me if i would take a look at what had happened. >> the complaint alleges that low's campaign did not disclose that it used the nonprofit's email list and email server as an in-kind contribution, an example given in the complaint shows an email sent in february with a link that directed users to a page hosted by nonprofit stand with asian americans. though ravel is listed as an endorser on liccardo's website and acknowledged it, she said the complaint is not about that. >> my rationale for this has nothing to do with sam liccardo and my support of him, or any

feeling particularly about evan low. what i care about is democratic process. >> low's campaign sent a statement saying sam liccardo is once again deploying his supporters to make false accusations against our campaign and distract his own shady conduct. this is simply a case of a volunteer working in their personal capacity, using the wrong hyperlink. the email list was purchased from the county registrar and reported by the campaign liccardo's campaign issued a statement saying in part, quote, evan low will do anything to further his political career. the statement went to on bring up other allegations against low and say, quote, it's gotten so bad. barack obama's former fec chair is now calling him out. this all comes months after multiple candidates ran in the primary race for district 16. sam liccardo won first place by a wide margin. initially, evan low and joe simitian won second place in a tie until a recount request was made. that request was made by a former staffer. on

liccardo's 2014 san jose mayoral campaign. liccardo's team did not claim a current association with that staffer. two fec complaints were filed against liccardo in the aftermath. as for the complaints against low, ravel said she's leaving. what happens next to the fec? >> they're the ones who will have to investigate this, not me. >> zach fuentes, abc seven news. >> tonight, oakland city leaders will hold the latest in a series of town hall meetings for citizens to express their concerns about violence. mayor shantel and police chief floyd mitchell once again will take part this evening. this evening's town hall is at fremont high school in fruitvale. there's another scheduled for thursday at allen temple baptist church in east oakland. and friday there will be a town hall at the oakland asian cultural center in chinatown. a candidate for oakland city council is learning firsthand just how serious the city's unhoused problem is, and the crime problem is. watch thi. >> listen. back up.

>> now it's your morning money report. the ftc is ordering care.com to pay $8.5 million to consumers after they found the company using unlawful practices. care.com offers help to people to find caregivers for children's pets and family members, as well as housekeepers and tutors. the ftc found on monday the company had been using inflated numbers and false claims to get customers to use the service. the settlement money now goes toward refunds. now let's see what's happening at the new york stock exchange as trading gets underway. we're in positive territory, but just barely. up a little more than six points. cooling inflation reports and optimism that the federal reserve will cut interest rates, helping numbers recover from earlier this month. >> caltrain has announced a new schedule that would offer bay area commuters more reliable public transportation alongside the new schedule. caltrain is unveiling its new electric train. this new train will serve as one of the express trains from san jose to san francisco. that will only take an hour.

weekday peak service will offer four trains an hour in each direction. overall service is expected to increase by 20%. the changes go into effect september 21st. >> several legacy businesses in san francisco's fillmore district say they're being pushed out after decades in that neighborhood. in response, supervisor and mayoral candidate aaron peskin announced a plan to make it harder to remove legacy shops on a four block stretch of fillmore in pacific heights. since the start of the year, billionaire venture capitalist neil mehta has bought several buildings on fillmore. nearby restaurants we spoke with say they may be forced to leave because lease negotiations have gone sour. >> we have 20 plus employees who work here. we have a very strong following here in the community, and we want to have clarity about our future. >> we couldn't reach mehta for comment, but one of his business associates did get back to us. nightlife entrepreneur cody
