san francisco. but police say happened moments before. and preparations underway for this year's dreamforce conference. what to know as street closures begin around the city. good morning everybody. it's saturday, september 14th. elisa is here with your weekend forecast and changes. >> yes. we're looking at some subtle changes on your saturday. much more dramatic into the second half of the weekend. and they come with this system in the pacific northwest that will continue to sink to the south, bringing the cooler temperatures. and then eventually rain chances our way. 52 at sfo. it is upper 50s in san jose and some cool upper 40s from sonoma to novato and santa rosa at 49 right now. mile and a half visibility. half moon bay and just a couple degrees cooler for some of you from the east bay and the peninsula. but as we get through the noon hour, we're sunny inland. some 80s return, mid 80s for most of us and around the bay shore. it is certainly going to feel a little bit cooler from the upper 60s to low 70s. and then by the

coastline. still going to be kind of cloudy throughout the day. the winds are going to make it feel even cooler as we get that delta breeze. and then for your sunday, we'll be tracking some rain showers late in the day. stephanie. all right. >> lisa. thank you. vice president kamala harris is sharing more about her stance on the economy, guns and reaching undecided voters. she gave her first solo interview since securing the democratic party's nomination for the presidency. harris spoke with anchor brian taff for an exclusive interview at our sister station, wpvi in philadelphia. >> i feel very strongly that. gotta earn every vote. >> kamala harris was back in familiar territory friday, arguably the most sought after turf in presidential politics. pennsylvania. >> we're going to be spending a lot more time in pennsylvania riding high after what polls showed was a commanding debate performance in philadelphia on tuesday. >> harris is now in the final sprint, turning the focus from her personal story to her plans. madam vice president brian taff. nice to meet you. those plans,

the subject of a wide ranging exclusive interview, her first since the debate on the biggest issue in voters minds the economy. when we talk about bringing down prices and making life more affordable for people, what are 1 or 2 specific things you have in mind for that? >> and creating opportunity for people, for example, to start a small business. so my opportunity economy plan includes giving startups a $50,000 tax deduction to start their small business. it used to be $5,000. nobody can start a small business with $5,000. >> harris also touted the plan to incentivize the construction of 3 million new homes across america and tax credits of up to $25,000 to help first time homebuyers afford them. on crime and guns specifically, i want to talk about your values on this issue when it comes to gun ownership, where do you draw the line in america on gun ownership and gun use? >> brian, i am a gun owner and

tim walz, my running mate, is also a gun owner. we're not taking anybody's guns away. i support the second amendment and i support reasonable gun safety laws. >> harris supports an assault weapons ban and universal background checks. but here, in part of the state where trump's signs are almost omnipresent. we also talked about her opponent and his support. i wonder how you distill it. what do you understand his appeal to be, and how do you speak to his voters? or maybe people who just share his values but are open to something else? >> in my heart, i know in my soul i know that the vast majority of us as americans have so much more in common than what separates us most americans want a leader who brings us together as americans and not someone who professes to be a leader, who is trying to have us point our fingers at each other. i think people are exhausted with that approach to be honest with you. >> as for her approach, spending

the next several weeks drawing a contrast with her opponent and even her current boss, joe biden. >> i offer a new generation of leadership. my focus is very much on what we need to do over the next ten, 20 years to catch up to the 21st century. >> that was brian taff reporting. today, harris will deliver remarks at the congressional black caucus legislative conference in washington, dc. meanwhile, former president donald trump was in the bay area to raise money for his campaign along the peninsula. our abc seven team saw his motorcade as it rolled up to the event in woodside. dozens of his supporters lined the streets, along with a small group of democratic supporters. >> we are being hoodwinked and we are doing it at the cost of the future. our our current inflationary process has ruined our economy in three and a half years. i just hope that we could agree to disagree respectfully,

ringing through the powell street bart station friday morning. san francisco police officers pursuing a man they say was sitting inside a reported stolen vehicle armed with a gun. >> they observed this armed person because of proactive police work, and they took the appropriate action in terms of engaging with this person. >> this video, posted to social media showing the suspect walking towards the bart powell street station officers demanding he stop, then chasing him down. that's when you can hear multiple gunshots. the encounter sending tourists running and witnesses shaken, including those working nearby. >> i was turning to do a coffee to make a coffee, and then i heard the gunshot. everybody. i told them to go to the back door. >> sfpd confirming at least two of its officers were involved in the shooting, and that it's still unclear who shot first. >> again, you know, this city is we're on the upswing. we want to make sure that, you know, we try

to prevent these types of things from happening. but our officers are deployed to prevent crime. and when we see somebody armed with a gun, you know, we want to get that person in custody before they hurt somebody or commit some other violent crime with that firearm. >> when asked for a comment, mayor london breed's office responded with this statement, reading in part. while crime is at a ten year low across the city, there's so much more to be done, and mayor london breed will not let up on her efforts to continue to make san francisco safe for residents, business owners and visitors. >> people don't want to hear crime is down in san francisco city supervisor and mayoral candidate asha safai speaking at the scene. we can tell them crime is down all day long, but within a two week period, this is the second shooting that happened. this is brazen crime. we have families living here. we have every day working frontline workers in san francisco. and this is what they're experiencing. >> sfpd says it will hold a town hall meeting about the shooting within ten days. meanwhile

because police were involved in the shooting, the investigation now gets handed over to the city's district attorney, tara campbell. abc seven news. >> forty-niners wide receiver ricky pearsall is continuing his recovery after getting shot during an attempted robbery in union square. it happened almost two weeks ago now. the rookie is back to working out and has been around the team locker room in recent days. 40 niners coach kyle shanahan gave this update. >> i mean, i think it surprisingly heals a lot faster than you would think. you know, you rip when you tear your chest and stuff. you're out for the year. but that's a bullet hole that goes through your chest and out the back. for some reason heals a lot faster. so it's, you learn a lot about that stuff, but, yeah, we're expecting him. you know, it's week to week, so i don't really know when, but he's traveling with us today and it's been a good step this week getting him back in the workout weight room. >> pearsall will miss the first four games of the season. we're following new details on thursday's deadly shooting in orinda. the victim has been

identified as 50 year old scott decker. investigators say he was a resident of orinda, as well as truckee. we're told he was in a truck when a man was driving another car that shot him. the contra costa county sheriff's office says that man was detained, but has since been released. they have not said what led up to the shooting or if any charges will be filed. weekend activities will go on as planned for some north bay schools after a bomb threat forced the closure of five different campuses friday morning. police eventually determined all of the schools in the tamalpais union high school district were safe. school officials say a bomb threat came in to the district headquarters. the threat did not name one specific high school, so they evacuated all buildings and sent everyone home and contacted law enforcement to secure those sites. in the east bay, the superintendent of oakland schools is notifying families of a huge budget deficit that could prevent ousd from paying teachers. the letter is titled

money disaster. superintendent kyla johnson trammell says oakland unified will face a $79 million budget deficit by the end of the school year. that deficit is expected to grow so large by 2027, the district may not even be able to meet payroll or pay for other basic services. the superintendent blames falling enrollment, fewer funds coming in from the state and pay increases to district employees. all right, let's get you outside and check in with lisa. good morning. >> good morning. with another warm day yesterday. mount tam retaining some of that warmth at 72 degrees and a dry upper level with 22% relative humidity. but you can clearly see the marine layer is back. even mist and drizzle at the coast. and this is setting the stage for a somewhat cooler saturday. a much cooler sunday, and we'll talk about showers as well with my accuweather seven day forecast. >> lisa, thank you and still ahead, real estate experts say don't let the for lease signs fool you. what they believe will

have been relocated in 2021. the richardson bay regional agency reached an agreement with the san francisco bay conservation and development commission. they agreed to have all illegal anchored vessels removed by october 2026. now conservationists say the anchors of the boats damage eelgrass, a sensitive and vital food source for migratory shorebirds. san francisco is eyeing sweeping new restrictions on recreational vehicles. this would be the latest step in the city's effort to curb homelessness. under the new proposal, sfmta plans to ban

rvs from parking on all city managed streets between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. that includes travel trailers and mobile homes. the ban would give sfmta clearance to tow oversize vehicles, violating any of those rules. the agency's board of directors has to pass the proposal before it would take effect. now, to some signs of improvement in san francisco's union square. the area has seen a significant loss of retailers in the past four years, but there are some businesses moving in. abc seven news reporter suzanne fawn has more on the changes to help build a better bay area. >> if you're looking for a rolex watch, you can now find it on post street in union square. the new rolex store opened last month, despite the many for lease signs in the union square area. kazuko morgan, executive vice chair for commercial real estate firm cushman and wakefield, says there's a lot going on there right now. >> there are several other tenants that have signed leases

or are in lease negotiations in union square. >> morgan helps find tenants for exclusive retail spaces in union square. >> rolex opened a few weeks ago. patek philippe is opening this month. saint john relocated from the four seasons hotel to post street. >> christopher clark gallery relocated from geary street to post street. max mara is under construction and will open by the end of the month. morgan says a lot of new businesses are expanding or moving into union square. >> there has been a lot of work that's been done over the last year and really getting leases done. >> downtown san francisco continues to grapple with record high office vacancy rates. during the second quarter of this year, it was nearly 37%. in union square, though, the vacancy rate during the same period was nearly 22%, according to cushman and wakefield. morgan says spaces are leased or in negotiation, even though the signs have not been taken down. next year, a new nintendo store

will go up at 331 powell street in union square. as for the san francisco macy's flagship store that's expected to stay open until the property is sold. macy's released this statement saying, quote, macy's union square remains open as the fall and holiday season draws near. we are working in close partnership with the mayor's office and others as we explore options for this location. morgan says people often think san francisco is a challenging market to enter, that it's expensive that the best locations have been taken, but not now. >> for the first time in my career, there's a lot of good opportunities for brands and landlords are most flexible we've ever seen. >> morgan and others hope the momentum continues for businesses survive and thrive in union square in san francisco, suzanne phan abc seven news. >> about 50,000 guests are expected to pour into downtown san francisco next week for salesforce's annual dreamforce conference. the conference starts tuesday at the moscone

center. the dreamforce website shows techies will pay more than $2,500 to attend. some streets right near the moscone center are already closed, so keep that in mind. this weekend, mission and howard streets from third to fourth street will be closed from 6 a.m. to 10:00 through september 22nd, and some lanes of folsom street will also be blocked. a new report shows hawaii officials were not prepared for last year's devastating wildfires in maui. investigators reviewing the emergency response said they found no evidence officials made preparations for the fire. that's despite four days of warnings in the forecast. the report found the lack of planning hindered efforts to evacuate the historic town of lahaina. more than 100 people died in the town during that fire. hawaii's attorney general responded to the findings. >> unlike other places on the mainland, a red flag day is almost like a normal day in hawaii, and we can't necessarily

tell the difference from one day to the other. so part of what we need to do, and it's included in the findings and the recommendations, is all of our communities need to learn that information. >> the report also said decades old infrastructure standards and insufficient communications were key factors in the destruction. we're always on fire. watch here at home and that report an important reminder for agencies across the country. well, turning to our local weather now, let's check in with lisa on what to expect in the mild day ahead. >> yes, that's right. we're going to drop the temperatures off just a few degrees today and then a big drop off as we say goodbye to the weekend. the second half of the weekend. and that will include some showers that will start us off for early monday. temperatures are really going to take a tumble and they'll be below average before we see a recovery. and some warmer weather as we're headed towards fall, which is next sunday, the first day. 651 the

official sunrise. 717 is the sunset, so that's 12 hours and 27 minutes of daylight. and as we look at live doppler seven, you can see much of oregon washington covered in the clouds and a trough of low pressure offshore. gorgeous view here from mount tam. the marine layer in place where temperatures are quite chilly in some spots of the north bay. san francisco 54. you may need your wipers from time to time if you're headed out across one of the local bridges. 59 san jose. we're looking at mid 50s for you in redwood city, so a cool down right along the shoreline out ahead of the front and behind the front. this is a look you can see that we are buried in the fog there. but it's not widespread. and we're not looking at the fog inland. but check out that 49 santa rosa 50 in petaluma. so some cool temperatures here. 54 in napa, 61 by the delta. the breeze kicks up today. and then as we look at our final stop here from

our sutro tower camera, you can see with salesforce there just over 1000ft. and the low cloud deck beginning to move in across the bay. sunny and warm inland, but not as warm as it's been. we saw those low 90s yesterday just in the mid to upper 80s today. that fall-like feel for your sunday. gusty winds, a big drop off 10 to 15 degrees in your temperatures tomorrow. that continues with some rain chances sunday into monday. windy conditions and it looks like another system headed our way for the middle of the week. this first system, because the air mass is so much colder, we could even add in a rumble of thunder and a very slight chance of a thunderstorm into monday. here's a look at today. we're sunny, the clouds lining up along the shoreline into your sunday. we have a pretty cloudy start and then they begin to peel back the clouds. parts of the north bay were sunny for a short while and then by the late afternoon, more cloud cover. the winds arrive and there's a look at that shower activity as we get into

now at 630. wildfires burn out of control across the state where we're seeing the most damage as fire crews battle the flames. we'll have more on that in just a moment. good morning everybody. thank you for sharing. part of your saturday with us. starting to see the sunrise this morning. >> yes we are. the marine layer is moving back in. we have some

mist and drizzle at the coast, but it's going to be another nice day. not quite as warm as yesterday, but the change is occurring throughout the afternoon with breezier winds and a slight cooldown. 54 downtown, 57 in oakland. good morning, san jose 59 for you. a mile and a quarter visibility. half moon bay. and from vollmer peak you can see the low cloud deck 49 santa rosa. it is 61 by the delta anywhere from 2 to 4 degrees cooler from the san carlos airport and that is where you're going to feel the cooldown today. redwood city, redwood shores as the winds kick up and numbers drop off by about 5 to 6 degrees. so by 11:00 most of us are sunny and then by 2:00 we're in the mid 80s upper 80s for our warmest locations, mid 70s in fremont. we'll see some mid 80s from the north end of the bay to san jose today, and then only 70 arriving for your sunday. stephanie. all right. >> lisa, thank you. firefighters continue battling nearly 20 large wildfires across the state. the most threatening of these is the bridge fire in san bernardino county. the fire has

grown to more than 52,000 acres and is only 3% contained this morning. thousands of people in san bernardino and los angeles counties are under evacuation orders. crews were able to make some progress overnight thanks to increased humidity and lower temperatures. now, east of that is the line fire that's burned more than 38,000 acres. some evacuation warnings were lifted near the community of baldwin lake, but the danger is far from over. more than 65,000 structures are still being threatened by the flames. crews expect to make progress this weekend as cooler temperatures will continue. the line fire is only 25% contained. we're also keeping an eye on the davis fire south of reno. the fire is burning in an area with heavy timber and brush. it scorched 5800 acres and is 76% contained as of this morning. the wildfires are also forcing the evacuation of animals at risk of the flames and heat. workers at

the big bear alpine zoo are moving smaller animals inside because of smoke coming nearby. zoo officials say their hvac systems are helping maintain the air quality for wildlife. >> the fire is being contained. we are really hopeful, but we do still have smoke, so we wanted to ensure that the animals, the animals, weren't going to be health, weren't going to be risked. so that's why we made the determination to move those little guys down. >> the big bear alpine zoo is also moving some of its animals to the living desert zoo, and gardens in palm desert. it's nearly 100 miles away. you can keep track of wildfires across the state with our interactive wildfire tracker. you can find it over on our website, abc seven news.com/fire map. overseas. now 14 isis fighters were killed in a u.s. military raid. four of them were senior isis leaders, including the

group's top operations leader in iraq and chief bomb maker. the u.s. had previously offered a $5 million reward for that person. the military says seven american service members were injured in the august raid. the u.s. central command said in part, quote, this operation targeted isis leaders and served to disrupt and degrade isis's ability to plan, organize and conduct attacks against iraqi civilians, as well as u.s. citizens, allies and partners throughout the region and beyond. up in space, we're hearing from the stranded astronauts for the first time since they took off in the boeing starliner. the pair went to the international space station in early june and were only supposed to be there for about a week. nasa and boeing officials decided to send the starliner back to earth earlier this month, after multiple issues with the spacecraft. butch wilmore and suni williams, you see here, say they're not going to worry about anything out of their control. >> we're both, you know, navy.

we've both been on deployments. we're not surprised when deployments get changed. i mean, our families extended. our families are used to that as well. so that is that's not a humongous surprise. >> well, moore and williams requested absentee ballots. they'll be in orbit until at least february, so they'll have to vote from space. they will be sent home on a spacex crew dragon spacecraft. back here at home, we are a little over 24 hours from the 76 emmy awards. and this year, organizers are expecting a historic show. dan and eugene levy are not only the first father son duo to host the emmys, but several of the award winners are making history, too. here's a preview of tv's biggest night. >> it's the night we've all been waiting for. the 76th emmy awards, and for the first time, the hosts are a father son duo. four time emmy winners eugene and dan levy.

>> no. for her work in hulu's under the bridge, lily gladstone became one of the first indigenous women nominated for best supporting actress in a limited series or movie, along with kaylee reese of true detective night country. no doubt the stars will feel the nerves, something eugene and dan know firsthand. >> you're going to be scared. you're going to be nervous, and rightfully so. >> and it's okay if all you think about is yourself. until that happens, it's a very common thing. i remember sitting there the first year we were nominated and just like waiting, waiting for the category, trying to and then, you know, a camera would be over there and then you kind of put on a i'm having a really great time. the stage is set, the seat cards all laid out, and soon the stars will fill the room. >> now, as far as what you can expect from this father son duo on the big stage, there are times where you watch award shows and the hosts are really, you know, they're roasting.

it's 641. a school district's looming financial problems are now affecting a softball field in the east bay. we're hearing from a league worried it might not have a place to play in the future. here's abc seven news reporter lauren martinez. save newark girls softball is the message these young athletes and their families are sharing for decades, the league has been using fields at a snowe elementary school since the school was shut down two years ago. the league has continued to use the site, but earlier this week, league administrator andrew patrick was informed by the district they can no longer play on the fields. >> the main reason is that it's too much of a liability to allow the public use of this school when there's not supposed to be anybody here. >> the news means they have no place to play for the 2025 spring season, and registration is supposed to be starting now. the district has overseen cutting the grass, but the league has been in charge of

infield maintenance. all that work will now stay with these fields. >> so the option that they gave us on tuesday via email was that there's some space at another school in town. unfortunately, the quote that they gave us was $500,000. >> on friday evening, the district sent abc7 news this statement. the district has identified alternative shared land, space at another school site. however, neither the district nor the league has the funds to build new softball fields. we remain committed to finding a solution, working with our families and community. >> there's other sports organizations in the city that are using the fields as well, and not that we're trying to take anything away from them, but we feel that there should be space for a league that's been empowering girls for so long. >> newark girls softball league has been in the community for nearly 50 years. stephanie ordorika enrolled her daughter three years ago. >> i think that she's become more confident. she has so many friends and even ourselves as

parents. we've you know, we are a community and we're all friends outside of softball. >> during the newark city council meeting on thursday, andrew patrick spoke during public comment asking for help. >> we hear you loud and clear. >> in newark. lauren martinez abc seven news. >> the city and the district plan to meet with the league on the 24th of this month to discuss their options. city leaders are preserving a piece of history in san francisco. mayor london breed is officially declaring the rainbow pride flag above the castro district, a city landmark. a new flag was raised friday, which is done every few months. the event had a special focus on gilbert baker. he created the original rainbow flag back in the 1970s and petitioned for it to fly above the castro. he sat down with abc seven news in 2017 to talk about the flag's creation. it was his last interview before his death. >> pink is for sax and red for life and orange for healing.

school, a stanford student who is also an oakland native, wants to make science accessible for everyone. ahmed muhammed started the nonprofit kids cube to teach kids science in a fun and affordable way. the nonprofit has given out nearly 50,000 science kits to children across the country. muhammed plans to expand outreach by working with
