still at it in spots and it's all due to an area of low pressure that is going to bring in some big changes tomorrow. but today they're subtler changes. as we look at our sutro tower camera. and you can see that marine layer there just encompassing much of the city. 54 in the city. but not all the way across the bay. 59 in san jose, we are sunny on the peninsula, but we've got a cool down in store for you. from redwood city to palo alto, 50 santa rosa 60, in concord, our 24 hour temperature change 2 to 4 degrees. and then as we look at our forecast throughout the day today, mid 80s, by late afternoon inland and near 70 for you at about 4:00 around the bay. we'll get a little sun closer to the coast, but we want to talk about the winds and the chance of rain coming your way as soon as tomorrow night. steph. >> all right. lisa. thank you. in an exclusive interview, vice president kamala harris is sharing more about her stance on the economy, guns and reaching undecided voters. she gave her

first solo interview since securing the democratic party's nomination for president. harris spoke with anchor brian taff at our sister station, wpvi, in philadelphia. >> i feel very strongly that you got to earn every vote. >> kamala harris was back in familiar territory friday, arguably the most sought after turf in presidential politics. pennsylvania. >> we're going to be spending a lot more time in pennsylvania riding high after what polls showed was a commanding debate performance in philadelphia on tuesday. >> harris is now in the final sprint, turning the focus from her personal story to her plans. madam vice president brian taff. nice to meet you. those plans, the subject of a wide ranging exclusive interview, her first since the debate on the biggest issue in voters minds the economy. when we talk about bringing down prices and making life more affordable for people, what are 1 or 2 specific things you have in mind for that? >> and creating opportunity for people, for example, to start a small business. so my

opportunity economy plan includes giving startups a $50,000 tax deduction to start their small business. it used to be $5,000. nobody can start a small business with $5,000. >> harris also touted the plan to incentivize the construction of 3 million new homes across america and tax credits of up to $25,000 to help first time home buyers afford them. on crime and guns, specifically, i want to talk about your values on this issue. when it comes to gun ownership, where do you draw the line in america on gun ownership and gun use? >> brian, i am a gun owner and tim walz, my running mate, is also a gun owner. we're not taking anybody's guns away. i support the second amendment and i support reasonable gun safety laws. >> harris supports an assault weapons ban and universal background checks. but here, in part of the state where trump's signs are almost omnipresent. we also talked about her opponent

and his support. i wonder how you distill it. what do you understand his appeal to be, and how do you speak to his voters? or maybe people who just share his values but are open to something else? >> in my heart, i know in my soul i know that the vast majority of us as americans have so much more in common than what separates us most americans want a leader who brings us together as americans and not someone who professes to be a leader, who is trying to have us point our fingers at each other. i think people are exhausted with that approach to be honest with you. >> as for her approach, spending the next several weeks drawing a contrast with her opponent and even her current boss, joe biden. >> i offer a new generation of leadership. my focus is very much on what we need to do over the next ten, 20 years to catch up to the 21st century. >> that was brian taff reporting. today, harris will

deliver remarks at the congressional black caucus legislative conference in washington, dc. now, according to a new reuters ipsos poll, vice president kamala harris is coming out ahead following the presidential debate. the recent numbers show harris is leading former president trump at 47%, trump following closely behind at 42%. the new poll also revealed that 53% of voters familiar with the debate believe that harris won only 24% of those polled said trump won. the remainder said neither won or did not answer. former president trump was in the bay area to raise money for his campaign along the peninsula. our abc seven news team saw his motorcade as it rolled up to the event in woodside. dozens of his supporters lined the streets, along with a small group of democratic supporters. >> we are being hoodwinked and we are doing it at the cost of the future. our our current inflationary process has ruined

our economy in three and a half years. i just hope that we could agree to disagree respectfully, peacefully and knowledgeably. >> i just hope that more people get involved on either side to finish off a busy day for mr. trump, he took off from sfo to las vegas for a rally at the world market center. >> abc seven news is your place. when it comes to any news related to the presidential election. you can find complete coverage and live updates over on our website, abc seven news.com, as well as our app. here in the bay area, san francisco police will soon hold a town hall about a shooting that left residents and tourists shaken. on powell street. it happened at the bart station on powell yesterday morning. if you're familiar with this area, it's close to where people catch the cable car. video shows people running away when they heard those gunshots. abc seven news reporter tara campbell has the response from city leaders

oh my god. >> the sounds of gunshots ringing through the powell street bart station friday morning. san francisco police officers pursuing a man they say was sitting inside a reported stolen vehicle armed with a gun. >> they observed this armed person because of proactive police work, and they took the appropriate action in terms of engaging with this person. >> this video posted to social media showing the suspect walking towards the bart powell street station officers demanding he stop, then chasing him down. that's when you can hear multiple gunshots. the encounter sending tourists running and witnesses shaken, including those working nearby. >> i was turning to do a coffee to make a coffee, and then i heard the gunshot. everybody. i told them to go to the back door. >> sfpd confirming at least two of its officers were involved in

the shooting and that it's still unclear who shot first. >> again, you know, this city is we're on the upswing. we want to make sure that, you know, we try to prevent these types of things from happening. but our officers are deployed to prevent crime. and when we see somebody armed with a gun, you know, we want to get that person in custody before they hurt somebody or commit some other violent crime with that firearm. >> when asked for a comment, mayor london breed's office responded with this statement, reading in part. while crime is at a ten year low across the city, there's so much more to be done, and mayor london breed will not let up on her efforts to continue to make san francisco safe for residents, business owners and visitors. >> people don't want to hear crime is down in san francisco city supervisor and mayoral candidate asha safai speaking at the scene. we can tell them crime is down all day long, but within a two week period, this is the second shooting that happened. this is brazen crime. we have families living here. we have every day working front line workers in san francisco

and this is what they're experiencing. >> sfpd says it will hold a town hall meeting about the shooting within ten days. meanwhile, because police were involved in the shooting, the investigation now gets handed over to the city's district attorney, tara campbell. abc seven news. >> forty-niners wide receiver ricky pearsall is continuing his recovery after getting shot during an attempted robbery in union square. it happened almost two weeks ago. the rookie is back to working out and has been around the team locker room in recent days. 40 niners coach kyle shanahan gave this update. >> i mean, i think it surprisingly heals a lot faster than you would think. you know, you rip when you tear your chest and stuff. you're out for the year. but that's a bullet hole that goes through your chest and out the back for some reason heals a lot faster. so it's, you learn a lot about that stuff, but yeah, we're expecting him. you know, it's week to week, so i don't really know when, but he's traveling with us today, and it's been a good step this

week getting him back in the workout weight room. >> pearsall will miss the first four games of the season. we're following new details on thursday's deadly shooting in orinda. the victim has been identified as 50 year old scott decker. investigators say he was a resident of orinda as well as truckee. we're told he was in a vehicle when a man driving another car shot at him. the contra costa county sheriff's office says that man was detained but has since been released. they have not said what led up to this shooting or if any charges will be filed. in the north bay. weekend activities will go on as planned for some high schools after a bomb threat forced the closure of five different campuses friday morning. police eventually determined all of the schools in the tamalpais union high school district were safe. school officials say a bomb threat came in to the district headquarters. the threat did not name one specific high school, so they evacuated all buildings and sent everyone home and contacted law enforcement to secure the sites. the superintendent of oakland

schools is notifying families of a huge budget deficit that could prevent ousd from paying teachers. the letter is titled money disaster. superintendent kyla johnson trammell says oakland unified will face a $79 million budget deficit by the end of the school year. that deficit is expected to grow so large by 2027, the district may not be able to meet payroll or pay for other basic services. the superintendent blames falling enrollment, fewer funds coming in from the state and pay increases to district employees. all right, let's get you outside and check in with lisa. how's it looking? >> well, we've got that fog right along the coast. here's a look at santa cruz, where it is 55 degrees. going for a high today in the upper 60s. so a couple of cool days. in fact, several cool days before we switch it up again. so a couple of one 80s in your seven day outlook. i'll explain next. lisa. >> thank you. also ahead, real estate experts say don't let those for lease signs fool you

what they believe will bring more shoppers to san francisco's union square and bart saying goodbye to paper tickets in style. how local students are marking the end of an where there was only one pediatrician to serve more than 10,000 children. daniel lurie said, i'm going to help. we opened a clinic for our most vulnerable children. i have worked shoulder to shoulder with him as we have brought solutions where people thought the problem was unsolvable. daniel doesn't take excuses. he holds himself accountable. and i know that he can do it for the city of san francisco.

the north bay. the last illegal boats on waldo point, right near sausalito, have been relocated in 2021. the richardson bay regional agency reached an agreement with the san francisco bay conservation and development commission. they agreed to have all illegally anchored vessels removed by october 2026. conservationists say the anchors of the boats damaged eelgrass, a sensitive and vital food source for migratory shorebirds. san francisco is eyeing sweeping new restrictions on recreational vehicles. this would be the latest step in the city's effort

to curb homelessness. under the new proposal, sfmta plans to ban rvs from parking on all city managed streets between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. that includes travel trailers and mobile homes. the ban would give the agency clearance to tow oversize vehicles, violating any of those rules. the agency's board of directors has to pass the proposal before it would take effect. now to some signs of improvement in san francisco's union square. the area, as we all know, has seen a significant loss of retailers in just the past four years. but there are some businesses moving in. abc seven news reporter suzanne fan has more on the changes to help build a better bay area. >> if you're looking for a rolex watch, you can now find it on post street in union square. the new rolex store opened last month. despite the many for lease signs in the union square area. kazuko morgan, executive vice chair for commercial real estate firm cushman and wakefield, says there's a lot

going on there right now. >> there are several other tenants that have signed leases or are in lease negotiations in union square. >> morgan helps find tenants for exclusive retail spaces in union square. >> rolex opened a few weeks ago. patek philippe is opening this month. saint john relocated from the four seasons hotel to post street. >> christopher clark gallery relocated from geary street to post street. max mara is under construction and will open by the end of the month. morgan says a lot of new businesses are expanding or moving into union square. >> there has been a lot of work that's been done over the last year and really getting leases done. >> downtown san francisco continues to grapple with record high office vacancy rates. during the second quarter of this year, it was nearly 37%. in union square, though, the vacancy rate during the same period was nearly 22%, according to cushman and wakefield. morgan says spaces are leased or in

negotiation, even though the signs have not been taken down. next year, a new nintendo store will go up at 331 powell street in union square. as for the san francisco macy's flagship store that's expected to stay open until the property is sold. macy's released this statement saying, quote, macy's union square remains open as the fall and holiday season draws near. we are working in close partnership with the mayor's office and others as we explore options for this location. morgan says people often think san francisco is a challenging market to enter, that it's expensive, that the best locations have been taken, but not now. >> for the first time in my career, there's a lot of good opportunities for brands and landlords are most flexible we've ever seen. >> morgan and others hope the momentum continues for businesses survive and thrive in union square in san francisco, suzanne phan. abc seven news. >> about 50,000 guests are expected to pour into downtown san francisco next week for

salesforce's annual dreamforce conference. the conference starts tuesday at the moscone center. the dreamforce website shows techies will pay more than $2,500 to attend. some streets near moscone center are already closed, so keep that in mind. this weekend. mission and howard streets from third to fourth street will be closed from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. through september 22nd. some lanes of folsom street will also be blocked. a new report shows hawaii officials were not prepared for last year's devastating wildfires in maui. investigators reviewing the emergency response said they found no evidence. officials made preparations for the fire. that's despite four days of warnings in the forecast. the report found the lack of planning hindering efforts to evacuate the historic town of lahaina. 102 people died in the town during that fire. hawaii's attorney general responded to the findings. >> unlike other places on the mainland, a red flag day is

almost like a normal day in hawaii, and we can't necessarily tell the difference from one day to the other. so part of what we need to do and it's included in the findings and the recommendations, is all of our communities need to learn that information. >> the report also said decades old infrastructure standards and insufficient communications were key factors in the destruction. turning to weather now, let's check in with lisa on what to expect this weekend. slightly cooler. slightly? yes we're starting that trend. >> and that turn where we're going to get not only the slightly cooler, but the much cooler in fact, temperatures taking a tumble. and we're going to add in not one, but two chances of showers for next week. but that's not the end of the story. then we're going to do another 180 and bring back the warmth just in time for fall, right? okay. well, as we look at live doppler seven right now, there's a system churning

up in the pacific northwest, and that area of low pressure will dominate our weather over the next few days. there's a look at some sunshine over at ak where the clouds are beginning to break up. and as a result, temperatures are coming up in some areas 54 downtown with some sunshine. it's 59 here with sunny skies in san jose. redwood city is 56. and look at all the breaks here in the stratus deck over the city. 50. santa rosa and petaluma with 60. concord and livermore. breezy winds today. and that is going to allow for that slight cooldown of about 4 to 5 degrees in spots. but it's still going to be warm inland. and then we're going to see the temperatures drop even more. so 10 to 15 degrees tomorrow for gusty winds and below average readings. and as we get towards the latter part of the day, bringing in a chance of showers, that takes us into early monday with that first system. so we'll take you hour by hour. there is the fog right along the coast and it

sets back up after we get into some nice clearing today. look what happens for your sunday into very early morning hours. that mist and drizzle we're overcast and then it begins to pull back. and then more clouds move in by the middle of the afternoon. and that's that system to the north working its way south. so by the time we get into the early morning hours of monday, we could have a few wet roadways. this is into well before sunrise along the peninsula. and then those breezy to gusty winds following the system. so out ahead of it it is breezy but much windier behind the system. and that's going to be for your sunday afternoon. this is rainfall estimates from sunday into monday. a couple of hundredths out there to maybe a little more than that around the santa cruz mountains. ben lomond maybe 3/100. but overall not talking about a whole lot of rain out there. but we are picking up the winds today. anywhere from 22 miles an hour to over 30 miles an hour throughout the evening hours. and then look how windy it gets

in their appeal, his lawyers say he was presumed guilty by the public and the judge before the trial even started. the u.s. attorney's office declined to comment. happening today, bart is marking the end of an era with a fashion show unique to its brand, and the bay area. project runway is an official farewell to bart's paper tickets. bart gave over 150,000 paper tickets to the oakland school of the arts high school, city college of san francisco, and san francisco state. local fashion students created over 30 unique garments with those tickets, and you can see the pieces of art at the rockridge station today at 1:00. also today, the kits cubed fourth annual stem fair kicks off at the oakland technical school. a stanford student who is also an oakland native wants to make science accessible for everyone. ahmed mohamed started the nonprofit kits cube to teach kids science in a fun and affordable way. the nonprofit has given out nearly 50,000

game day is. columbia south carolina. lsu comes in. the gamecocks surprising after beating kentucky last week. >> i think the big thing for south carolina is just kind of managing all that success early in the year. you know, here comes college game day. here comes a huge circus on their campus after a big win is they've got to get back down to the basics of just blocking and tackling. big, big challenge trying to defend garrett nussmeier. offense is very, very talented. i think they're playing with a lot of confidence. nussmeier will bring an edge into this game. >> 330 eastern time in the swamp. texas a&m and florida. florida is sort of in some turmoil right now, and a&m had all kinds of problems winning road games. >> yeah, i mean, somebody's got to win this game and something's got to give. florida is i think they knew coming into this year this is going to be a challenge. the one thing i think they thought they could count on was graham mertz leading this offense. and right now they're trying to figure out where they are at quarterback. that's that's a game where you hope somebody wins and can go in the right direction. >> and in prime time, georgia

with a breezy and slightly cooler day today. sunny shot of coit tower there 54 downtown, 59 with some sun in oakland. it's sunny in san jose, upper 50s and what a gorgeous shot from our exploratorium camera 64 up by the delta. the winds pick up today. we cool off by a few degrees and this morning we are about four degrees cooler from the south bay to the north bay and here's what's going to happen. we're going to clear through the nine 10:00 hour. the clouds to the coast. it's a sunny and pleasant day, but with those winds kicking up mid and upper 80s for the warmest locations inland, we'll have those upper 70s around the bay shore. fog at the coast. but we are talking much cooler weather for sunday, adding in rain chances as well. stephanie. all right lisa, thank you. >> fire crews continue battling nearly 20 large wildfires across the state. the most threatening of these is the bridge fire in san bernardino county. the fire has grown nearly 53,000 acres and is only 3% contained. this morning, thousands of people in san bernardino and los angeles counties are currently under

evacuation orders. crews were able to make some progress overnight thanks to increased humidity and lower temperatures. east of this area, the line fire has burned more than 38,000 acres. some evacuation warnings were lifted near the community of baldwin lake, but the danger is far from over. in this area. more than 65,000 structures are still being threatened by the flames. crews expect to make progress this weekend as cooler temperatures will continue. the line fire is only 25% contained. we're also keeping an eye on the davis fire south of reno. the fire is burning in an area with heavy timber and brush. the fire has scorched 5800 acres and is 76% contained as of this mornin. now, the wildfires are also forcing the evacuation of animals at risk of the flames and heat. workers at the big bear alpine zoo are moving smaller animals inside because of the smoke. zoo officials say their hvac systems are helping

maintain the air quality for the wildlife. >> the fire is being contained. we are really hopeful, but we do still have smoke, so we wanted to ensure that the animals, the animals weren't going to be health, weren't going to be risked. so that's why we made the determination to move those little guys down. >> the big bear alpine zoo is also moving some of its animals to the living desert zoo and gardens in palm desert. it's almost 105 miles away. now. you can keep track of wildfires burning across the state with our interactive wildfire tracker. it updates in real time. you can find it right over on our website, abc seven news.com/fire map overseas now 14 isis fighters were killed in a u.s. military raid. four of them were senior isis leaders, including the group's top operations leader in iraq and chief bomb maker. the u.s. had previously offered a $5 million

reward for that person. the military says seven american service members were injured in the august raid, the u.s. central command said in a statement, quote, this operation targeted isis leaders and served to disrupt and degrade isis's ability to plan, organize and conduct attacks against iraqi civilians, as well as u.s. citizens, allies and partners throughout the region and beyond. up in space, we're hearing from the stranded astronauts for the first time since they took off in the boeing starliner. the pair went to the international space station in early june, and were only supposed to be there for about a week. nasa and boeing officials decided to send the starliner back to earth earlier this month, after multiple issues with the spacecraft. butch wilmore and suni williams say they're not going to worry about anything. as you can see out of their control. >> we're both, you know, navy. we've both been on deployments. we're not surprised when deployments get changed and our

families extended our families are used to that as well. so that is that's not a humongous surprise. >> wilmore and williams requested absentee ballots. they'll be in orbit until at least february, so they'll have to vote from space. they will be sent home on a spacex crew nine dragon spacecraft. the walt disney company and directv have reached an agreement this morning, restoring programing to more than 11 million subscribers. directv says it will continue to air disney programing while the two companies work on a new multiyear contract. the cable company says it also gained the rights to air the upcoming espn streaming service when it launches at no cost to directv customers. millions of people lost access to abc, espn and other networks on september 1st because both sides reached a deadlock in renewal talks. disney is the parent company of abc seven. well, back here at home, we are a little over 24

hours from the 76 emmy awards and this year, organizers are expecting a historic show. dan and eugene levy are not only the first father son duo to host the emmys this year, but several of the award winners are making history, too. here's a preview of tv's biggest night. >> it's the night we've all been waiting for. the 76th emmy awards and for the first time, the hosts are a father son duo, four time emmy winners eugene and dan levy. >> we set the tone, but we kind of want to make it clear that, you know, this is this is your night. this is not about anybody coming up here, you know, trying to, you know, basically steal focus. i know, all right. sounding a little naive, but, you know, we hope to uh- we you know, we hope to kick it off in a way that's kind of energized, makes people feel good. and then we launch into the show. >> but they insist all eyes will

be on the nominees. some stars making history just by being nominated. >> i'm from the lakota oyate and pine ridge. >> the fx series reservation dogs, portraying authentic indigenous stories, is nominated for outstanding comedy and its star, d'pharaoh woon-a-tai, is the first indigenous nominee in a lead acting category. leading the charge in nominations shogun with 25, making history as the second non-english language show for outstanding drama following squid games two years ago. >> i should tell you anything. >> no. for her work in hulu's under the bridge, lily gladstone became one of the first indigenous women nominated for best supporting actress in a limited series or movie, along with kaylee reese of true detective night country. no doubt the stars will feel the nerves, something eugene and dan know firsthand. >> you're going to be scared. you're going to be nervous, and rightfully so. >> and it's okay if all you think about is yourself. until that happens, it's a very common

thing. i remember sitting there the first year we were nominated and just like waiting, waiting for the category, trying to. and then, you know, a camera would be over there and then you kind of put on a i'm having a really great time. >> the stage is set, the seat cards all laid out, and soon the stars will fill the room. now, as far as what you can expect from this father son duo on the big stage, there are times where you watch award shows and the and the hosts are really, you know, they're roasting. >> which don't get me wrong, i love i don't think we have it in our dna to like, scorch earth this emmys and just throw everybody under the bus. >> canadians don't do that. we're trying to be nice. >> we're trying to be celebratory. and then, you know, here and there, let's throw in a little. >> it'll be a kinder, gentler award show. >> one thing's for sure this year's emmys won't disappoint. >> watch our live on the red

that have been damaged in collisions over the years. at least one lane of traffic will be open during those closures. a school district's looming financial problems are now affecting a softball field in the east bay. we're hearing from a league worried it might not have a place to play in the future. here's abc seven news reporter lauren martinez. >> save newark girls softball is the message these young athletes and their families are sharing for decades, the league has been using fields at h.r. snow elementary school since the school was shut down two years ago. the league has continued to use the site, but earlier this week, league administrator andrew patrick was informed by the district they can no longer play on the fields. >> the main reason is that it's too much of a liability to allow the public use of this school, when there's not supposed to be anybody here. >> the news means they have no place to play for the 2025 spring season, and registration is supposed to be starting now. the district has overseen

cutting the grass, but the league has been in charge of infield maintenance. all that work will now stay with these fields. >> so the option that they gave us on tuesday via email was that there's some space at another school in town. unfortunately, the quote that they gave us was $500,000. >> on friday evening, the district sent abc7 news this statement. the district has identified alternative shared land space at another school site. however, neither the district nor the league has the funds to build new softball fields. we remain committed to finding a solution, working with our families and community. >> there's other sports organizations in the city that are using the fields as well, and not that we're trying to take anything away from them, but we feel that there should be space for a league that's been empowering girls for so long. >> newark girls softball league has been in the community for nearly 50 years. stephanie ordorika enrolled her daughter three years ago. >> i think that she's become more confident. she has so many

system that follows it. so maybe beginning to feel like fall. the official start of fall is next sunday. it's going to feel like summer by then. i bet you're not surprised, right? the way we switch things up around here. here's a look at a mostly sunny. partly sunny. san francisco 54. downtown 59. in oakland we have mid 50s. and there's fog on the coast. and from our east bay hills camera atop vollmer peak, it looks more impressive than it is because it's pretty sunny in our east bay with a mild 64 by the delta, 58, santa rosa and petaluma. it's been kind of cool overnight with those longer nights and 56 right now in santa cruz. so the breeze kicks up today. that's the main change with slightly cooler numbers by about four degrees. and that is slight compared to where we're going to be tomorrow which is 15 degrees cooler with very gusty winds and those below average temperatures, they're going to linger into monday with an added chance of showers late sunday into monday. and then as we bring the numbers up slightly, there's another system that's going to keep them from coming

up too much throughout the middle of the week, but that's just the middle of the week. wait till you see the end of the week as we go through the next several hours. by the afternoon, we're over 20 miles an hour with our sea breeze. then 25, then near 30 miles an hour for the delta. so if you look at where this system is going, it's dropping to the south, out of the north, throughout your sunday afternoon, you can see the winds start to kick up not only ahead of it, but they get even gustier behind it. and then we're going to see the possibility of some rain showers. now, as for today, the cool down that's really going to hit part of the mountains and yosemite around tuolumne meadows could see four inches of snow out ahead of the system. but for the bay area behind the system accompanying the system, we're looking at maybe a11 hundredths, but could see more of that in the upper elevations of the santa cruz mountains. ben lomond could see maybe 5/100, but for your saturday to start the weekend, it's a pleasant day. cooler, though, is 89 degrees. yesterday in san jose, 84.
