frances, phillip? >> brie, thank you. now to breaking news overseas in yemen, the site of the latest escalation of violence against the u.s. according to a senior defense official, iran-backed houthi rebels shot down a reaper drone. meanwhile, a second strike was made in syria. it was a weapons facility. the strike is in response to a series of attacks against u.s. personnel in iraq and syria the senior defense official says they are very certain this did not involve any civilian casualties. and in the west bank, violence continues to escalate. raf sanchez has the details, but we do want to warn you, some of the images are disturbing. >> reporter: deep in the occupied west bank, an israeli with an assault rifle confronts an unarmed palestinian, and

jewish settlers live in the west bank. israel rarely prosecutes settlers who attack palestinians rights groups. the settler was questioned but released without charge. the investigation, they say, is ongoing. do you think the man who shot you will ever be held accountable? i don't think so, he says. the settler was accompanied by soldiers f they wanted to stop him, they would have done it. you see a soldier here, but he doesn't help him or confront the settler. instead, they walk away together. israel's military did not answer our questions about the so soldier's actions. violence was surge long before october 7. nbc news spent months investigating this attack in june. when hundreds of israelis stormed a village. most of the villagers are u.s. citizens.
