four-hour daily pauses. it falls far shof and human rights groups have been pleading for. let's go live to claudio ha lavanga. do we know how these pauses will work in practice? >> reporter: phillip, frances, yes. on thursday the national security council spokesperson, john kirby, explained that the new pauses will be announced beforeha beforehand, about three hours before they come into effect. thi going forward, these pauses, as they're being called, will have predetermined times and will be announced beforehand. but while this sounds like a breakthrough, the israeli military has somehow down-played

the announcement bit white house, explaining that these pauses will berestricted to very small areas. sometimes just neighborhoods and will at no time will they interrupt operations all across gaza. now a second announcement john kirby made on thiften thursday that a second route or humanitarian corridor will be opened on the coast of gaza to allow civilians to move south as israel has advised them to do for a while now. but this exodus of hundreds of thousands of people from a small enclave to an even smaller part is worsening the humanitarian crisis. the world health organization has said so far about half a million people have seeked refuge in hospitals and schools run by the united nations, and inevitably, now infectious diseases are spreading quickly, and people are starving while they wait for much-needed humanitarian aid.

and on that point, president biden said on x former twitter said they are working to get more aid into gaza, announcing as many as 150 truck full of ham humanitarian aid will get in, in the coming days. it is very far from what pl palestinians need. before the war, 500 humanitarian aid trucks were getting through. but because of the war, the world health organization says at least 2,000 trucks will need to get in to allow palestinians to cope with this humanitarian catastrophe. phillip, frances? >> that's just mind-boggling numbers there, to think those are people who need help in the most dire way. a congressional game changer heading into 2024. senator joe manchin says he won't run for reelection, but will the moderate west virginia democrat now run for president? peter alexander has the story. >> reporter: a disappointment for democrats.

the man who brutally attacked nancy pelosi's husband. >> reporter: the defense says they will not dispute most of the government's evidence against david depape. we saw that video of david depape swing the hammer, knocking paul pelosi unconscious, causing him a skull fracture. they say he was very invested in these conspiracy theories which prompted him to break into the pelosi home in october of 2022. they say, though, that his intent was not to kidnap nancy pelosi or to harm paul, but that he was trying to lure target one, which we have learned is an associate professor at the university of michigan. he believed children were being harmed, and he was on a mission to save this country. and they say that is part of why he hit paul pelosi that night, because he thought that his mission had been thwarted. investigators have released several pieces of evidence showing him break into the home, hit paul pelosi in the head, but the key here is going to boil
