the funding bill goes to the senate what happens next? >> the fact this was so strongly bipartisan is a good sign for a pending vote, but it might be a bad one long-term for new speaker, mike johnson. he got fewer republican votes on this spending bill than mccarthy did on the last one that was ultimately part of the reason mccarthy lost his job. a lot of conservatives are frustrated with a deal here. the bill will likely make it to president biden's desk but the speaker's honeymoon in the house might be just about over. we welcome craig to the table. >> good morning. good morning to you as well. with the holiday season upon us, a lot of americans are thinking about their money. how far will their money go? well, the newest report from the bureau of labor statistics showing overall prices had not changed much over the last few

months, but still up more than 3% from last year. bottom line, we're still paying more, but prices are increasing at a slower rate than we have been seeing. let's bring in christine to break things down. just top line here, what does all this mean overall? >> so let's bask in the good news for a minute. remember when it was 9%, the inflation rate that was terrifying. that was issue number one for american families. 3.2% is better than it was in september. that means prices are rising more slowly, still faster than the fed would want, still faster than american families would want airfare fell last month. gas prices fell last month and rents and shelter costs grew more slowly. all of that was the good news. that's why the dow jones had a good day yesterday most people care about the grocery bill, not the dow. we are still worried about overall prices. >> yeah. stock market is opening interest rates won't be raised again.
7:15 am
i'll be the negative nelly grocery prices are still high. that's what people feel. >> when you talk about an inflation rate, that gets fed economists slowing they're bending that curve but for us, the prices are still higher the level of prices has gone up the past two or three years. when you go to the grocery store, you still feel it 4 of the 6 categories that this cpi measures were higher in the most recent month. people feel the grocery bill is higher than it was two years ago. every time i say, guys, the economy is doing okay, the public says it doesn't feel that way. and i think grocery bills are a part of that. >> you mentioned gas prices. there is a tiny bit of good news there. what are you saying? >> that is a really big driver of the prices month to month they're down year over year. we will watch to see if a slowing u.s. economy, cooling of the u.s. economy, which is a good thing, will keep those gas prices under wraps heading into the end of the year.
7:16 am
it is anybody's guess. a lot of the fed watchers are saying no more fed hikes i think we will have to wait to see if jerome powell can say mission accomplished he doesn't want any more head fakes. this is overall going in the right direction with inflation numbers. >> how clear is christine roman? >> she's a great pick. >> thank you, christine. let's get a check of the weather. mr. roker, what you got? >> well, we got wet weather from our friends down in the gulf 7 million people under flood watches from daytona beach all the way down into the keys we will be watching this because we've got a lot of rain from new orleans all the way down to key west and all the way up into atlanta we're seeing showers here's what's happening. we have one low pressure system developing over the peninsula. but a second system developing from daytona beach on into miami. tomorrow this system takes over, intensifies. it actually has the potential to become a tropical system, but
7:17 am
we're still watching that. then for the day, a moderate risk of heavy rain from north of fort lauderdale all the way down to homestead rainfall rates 1 to 3 inches per hour upwards of 5 inches. locally there could be 10 inches of rain in southern florida. and that's going to lead to some flooding, unfortunately. that heavier rain stretches all the way up to daytona beach and into panama city heads up on the coas friday into saturday, heavy rain into the outer banks, along down east maine the backside of it will bring colder air in. we will be watching this system depending on how close it gets to the coast, it could affect our weekend going right on into sunday we'll get into your local forecast in the next 30 seconds. probably shouldn't. but we did get you a few more gifts. honey. ooh, there's more. chewy's prices were so great.
