at weather. i opened the door and it was raining. >> yeah, i told you it was going to rain. >> yeah, good downpour. >> yeah, and it's all due to the storm system still off the coast. every now and then we will get waves of downpours. as of now we are taking a break and seeing drier conditions out there. some people are stepping out to see a little rain in marin county this morning, and we are going to see that moving over towards 101. heads up if you are driving that way. we are also seeing quite a bit of rain on the peninsula, east palo alto, sunnyvale and milpitas, and we have seen some of the showers south of san josé. as we look the hour-by-hour forecast, it shows another wave

of rain coming in from 3:00 to 5:00 we are seeing scattered showers and a possible few thunderstorms. we will talk about what else is coming up, but, mike, you are tracking a crash. >> yeah, i am. we are focusing up here, contra costa county heading through alamo, there are reports of a crash. first report was a box truck, and the second report for a follow-up said there were a couple more vehicles involved. i think there's a fuel spill on the pavement, and we do have a slow lane open. crews need to clean up the spill, and it's opposite the

commute. ntsb investigating a deadly crash in san diego, but we know that plane departed from concord. >> investigators say the pilot was the only person onboard that plane. sadly that victim and the plane's wreckage were found in just the last two hours. the plane, originally, though, took off from concord. it was very dark and there was rain and fog as well. one person is confirmed to have died in that crash. we don't know if it's the owner of the plane who, according to records, has the highest private pilot rating and lives in carlsbad. the plane went down 500 mild from concord, where it took off, and we know that's a long

flight. flight data shows after the plane took off around 5:30 yesterday evening, the flight was uneventful until the plane attempted a landing at another public executive airport about 10 miles from la jolla, and the plane crashed 100 yards from homes, and a witness told us he heard nothing. >> i am seeing the plane is facing now and how close it is to my house and could have flown into my house, and that's wild. >> i was just looking through the faa registry, and again, the pilot and the owner of the plane is from the carlsbad, but that plane did depart from concord. >> thank you, kris. president joe biden's focus

today turns fully to the apec summit happening in san francisco, and this follows an hours' long meeting yesterday with chinese president xi jinping in the filoli gardens. and the president and first lady biden will host heads of delegation for dinner. during his meeting yesterday with chinese president xi, th pair agreed to curb the flow of fentanyl, and protesters still spoke out with anger.

bob redell is live, and i know more protests are expected to have near moscone center today. >> reporter: you can see behind me here, 5th and mission, which was the site of one of the larger protests yesterday. the scene is clear right now. as we saw here around the moscone center outside the secure zone, and outside the historic meeting with the president and china, things can change quickly. this was the scene near 280 in woodside. this scuffle taking place between anti-communist demonstrators, and what they thought were pro china

protesters. and protests were taking all around the apec summit, and the biggest protest was directed at president xi, and police and the secret service quickly calmed the situation before allowing the protests to resume. >> protesters stretched down market street and forced traffic to slow down for miles. right now we know that action is planned by activist groups who oppose the apec summit near the moscone center near my location and howard street, and road closures are still in effect in

anything. it tends to linger for a while, and that's what we are seeing the reasons why the rain chances last a few days. we are seeing some of the rain mostly off for now, but as we look at the storm ranger, that's our mobile doppler radar, we are seeing some of the showers in marin county this morning that continues, and we can see it right over the hill there, and we are seeing some of the showers moving down the peninsula into sunnyvale and san josé. if we are seeing rain it's light at this point, and kind of backing off from the heavy activity we had yesterday evening. our temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s, and not seeing much in the way of cooldowns here. tomorrow we are looking at about the same temperatures. through late morning we are mostly cloudy and then we start to see scattered showers in the

early afternoon. we will see it picking up as we approach sunset. some of the darker greens and yellows indicate where we have heavier downpours and claps of thunder and lightning strikes as well. going into tomorrow, we start out the morning mostly dry at this time, but then at 9:00 we see the rain filling in on the radar and intense cells off the coast for tomorrow afternoon. some of that could move in for tomorrow evening. we are looking at significant rainfall totals here. on top of that we will add another three quarters to an inch of rain, and in total we could see over an inch of rain in parts of the north bay. friday and saturday the rain continues and then sunday it finally moves out. we will see things clearing over the next few days. we will go back to sunshine, and see that sun continue through

much of next week. mike, you are getting reports of a wrong-way driver? >> yeah, there was not a lot of follow-up information, at least not over the last couple of minutes. there were wet roads registering and they are all off to the side. somebody did call chp and reported a wrong-way driver as they approached sfo, and there are only overpasses and under crossings and there could be confusion as to what they saw. no follow-up on any incidents, and that's the good news. and then meanwhile, we're down one lane for the remainder of apec, and getting out of the city there could be an issue on the lower deck near treasure island, and we will continue to track that. we have seen more backup across the east shore and slower across

talks. we are live in san francisco with his agenda today and the expectations today for more protests. decision day for the a's. mlb set to vote on the plan to move to vegas, and one group of a's fans still hoping to sway owners. this is "today in the bay." a good morning to you on this thursday. i am marcus washington. >> i am laura garcia. let's start with a look at the forecast. meteorologist, kari hall, has been tracking the rain. we heard it overnight. >> yeah, i have seen it coming down in waves but yesterday was probably the heaviest we have seen so far with the possibility of more heavy times in the forecast. we are taking a break even though this system is close to the coastline, and we will see it bringing in off and on showers. right now that rain has been light up around marin county, and as we get started on storm

where leaders from 19 other countries will be there today. >> reporter: that's correct. world leaders are expected to gather today for the apec family photo. it's a tradition at every summit and usually the world leaders wear an article of clothing from the host country, and today we will find out what piece of clothing that will be and this comes a day after that historic bilateral meeting between president biden and president xi where both leaders talked about the progress that was made. we heard from president biden yesterday saying he believes the talk was some of the most productive discussions they have had, and president xi spoke to a room of business leaders overnight, and they the two agreed to address the

trafficking of fentanyl out of china. mr. biden's work at apec continues today around 10:45 this morning. we will bring that to you live on-air and online. we will also be there for the apec family photo and we will cover that. we are expecting more protests alongside day six of apec today. i sat down with somebody from the state department and discussed how apec is taking in the opinions. >> the apec economies are some of the most diverse and vibrant economies and countries in the world. as we think about economic solutions and deepening our partnerships, we need to think

has been found near a golf course. >> rescue teams initially could not find that plane. we did get more from a reporter, audra stafford with an nbc affiliate in san diego. >> that plane crashed right in the middle of this neighborhood. i will step out of the way so you can take a look behind me. right there between the trees on the hillside. i talked to an officer here at the scene just a few minutes ago and he confirmed only the pilot was onboard and that the pilot did die in that crash. i want to show you video taken just moments after police finally located the plane to give you a better look at it. nbc 7 was the first crew here at the scene. we have learned that plane is a cessna 210. it's a six-seat high performance single engine plane with retractible gear. it's flown often by more experienced pilots, and we don't

know if the owner of the plane was piloting the plane at the crash. the plane took off from an air cord in concord around 5:30 last night, and it shows the plane attempted to land at a small airport in san josé before beginning to la jolla before its gps signal was lost at 5:30. >> it's a little shock because i am seeing the direction in which the plane is facing now and how close it's to my house, and it could have thrown into my house. that's wild. >> reporter: even more wild, he says he did not know there had been a crash until he got a knock on his door this morning from police. this investigation is just getting under way. we will continue to follow the very latest. from la jolla, i am audra stafford. back to you. hours from now jury

deliberations are set to resume for the hammer attack at the home of nancy pelosi. the defendant, david depape, could face life in prison if he is convicted of attacking paul pelosi last fall. >> it's not going to require a meticulous review of the video over and over again or require looking at forensic evidence in any great detail. i would expect a relatively quick jury verdict. >> the trial is taking place in federal court, and a state file is expected to follow but will only happen after the federal case wraps. mlb commissioner will address the media and break the news that oakland fans have been dreading that the a's will move

to las vegas. owners are expected to vote today, and all signs point to what could be a unanimous plan to open a stadium in las vegas. >> we felt like we got at least through to him about how -- how much it has hurt us, and i think that was his -- his reaction was, well, it hurts me, too. >> i plead with the owners to please keep the oakland a's here in oakland where they belong. we made the investment and have the fan base available, and certainly you have the land and property where we can rebuild a brand-new baseball stadium. >> that's oakland council member who is among the many city leaders hoping against the move.

the new las vegas stadium likely would not be finished until 2028. 5:40 this morning. taking a live look outside in san josé where community members are hoping you do at least most of your shopping with local tha. 300 shops participating in the city's holiday campaign for the next eight weeks, and the goal is to highlight some of the businesses and help some recover from the impacts of covid-19. let's go to kari hall who is looking at the shopping forecast. >> yeah, you want to get an early jump on that shopping, and the earlier the better because as we go into the afternoon we will see more showers coming in and even a chance of

thunderstorms. temperatures look mild today. we also have the sharks game tonight in san josé. later this evening we are going to see temperatures at about 60 degrees, and then dropping to the upper 50s, staying partly cloudy. if you are in san francisco for tonight, the warriors game, it will be raining as you are heading in. we are looking at off and on showers and a quarter inch of rainfall. make sure you have the umbrella and poncho or whatever you need to stay dry as you are walking to the chase center. we will wrap up this weekend with the 49ers game. we are looking at sunshine and a chance to dry out after all of the showers we have seen throughout the week. if your weekend plans take you to tahoe, travel will be treacherous over the next couple of days. then the end of the weekend is looking nice as the sky clears, we will be in the low 40s for highs. if you are along the coastline, also looking at some very slippery travel as our temperatures head for the low

60s. we will see times of rain in the forecast, and also at times some peeks of sunshine. mike, you have been watching a couple issues for the morning commute. >> most of them are related to the apec continuing with its summit. the bay bridge backup formed earlier and more severely than we often see, and now they are slowing down the metering lights and turning them on early. westbound and eastbound have one lane blocked. we will see a slowdown into berkeley and possibly in richmond. the off-ramps 5th and 4th are closed for the remainder of the summit. folks could be distracted, and so you can get off just after the closure and that will take you into the city where there's more congestion.

we will see how things are building, coming up. exclusive new video obtained by nbc provides a first look at alec baldwin's interaction leading up to the death of the cinematographer. some show baldwin interacting on set between takes and at one point he rearranges the crews due to safety concerns. the shooting happened on the set of "rust" in 2021, and that's when investigators say the prop gun killed alina hutchins. there's just a few of the videos given to prosecutors, and nbc has not viewed the other video evidence.

another election challenge for president biden. looks like senator joe manchin may run for president. >> and biden wouldn't be worried -- sorry, if -- >> i think what you are trying to say is they will fight it out on the primary. biden would beat manchin easily and we would move on to the general election, but if manchin were to run as a third party candidate, he would split away some of the voters, and that could hurt him. >> you said you don't think you would be a spoiler. if you look at the polls it shows a third-party candidate would take support away from president biden. what do you say to those that

>> thanksgiving is just a week away, and we are starting out with rain right now. we have off and on showers, and even a chance of thunderstorms for the afternoon. the rain continues in the forecast through saturday, and then we will have a chance to dry out from sunday into next week. as we see what's happening here, the storm system is still offshore. nothing really steering it, it's just cut off from any jet stream or anything that can direct it across the bay area, so it's taking its time out there and bringing in waves of rain. we had the first round of heavier rain yesterday afternoon, but as we get a closer look right now, storm ranger, our mobile doppler radar picking up on some of the rain coming over the santa cruz mountains and move into the south bay, and that's mostly where we are seeing a lot of the activity in terms of wet weather as of now, but things will pick up as we go throughout the day. our temperatures are mild, right now in the upper 50s and even 60 degrees in san francisco. 52 now in dublin.

going throughout the morning, we will have a partly to mostly cloudy sky. some of the rain returning. we could see some of the brighter colors there over parts of the east bay and tri-valley, and that's where we could see thunderstorms. the possibility of that move into the east bay over the north bay around 6:00 to 7:00. and then another break tonight before we see more rain coming in for tomorrow, more widespread downpours and that will continue into saturday as well. today we are looking at another 0.1 of an inch of rain, and then we may in total get an inch of rain in oakland and then by the time all is said and done, we could get an inch half to close to two inches of rain in santa rosa. this could make up for some of the deficits. we are looking at unsettled and
