night. let's make something that keeps our family alive and gives us leftovers for a week let's get started, shall we? >> i mean, you are rallying the women in this. what a great, great series >> thank you. >> so everybody goes, wait that was a book. you knew it was a book you were handed the book a long time ago. >> two years before it came out. >> so you were holding this secret and so why was it that you thought, you know what, this is a definite yes for me? >> gosh. a huge part of it is the way bonny created the book, the tone she created and this character i wanted to be with, i wanted to know and bring to life there is also very big themes in this story it is stories about love and stories about the complicated nature of life and resilience and our impact on each other these are not small things, and this is what life is about, i think.
8:39 am
her. she's constantly being looked >> i love all parts of this. this woman is so excellent at chemistry that the men don't see her. she's constantly being looked through. then she finds this role, and it gives her the biggest role she's ever had or needed did you -- what part of that did you relate to? >> oh, there is a lot of parallels. but there are also a lot of parts that are so different. but the idea of her stepping up and using her platform to talk about things is something that obviously i care a lot about and i care about learning from my mistakes and overcoming hard times. so it was a pleasure to be in her shoes. >> this executive producer role is also something that sits well why did you want this to be a part of this as well >> well, it is all part of this experiment of i have been onset apparently for 25 years. i didn't know that but for a long time. and i felt like there is this -- this -- there is a better process, i think, that involves the cast and crew becoming a unit and not feeling like two separate things. as an actor, a lot of times, my
8:40 am
first day at work is filming and getting to know everybody. but everybody else in the crew has had months of meetings i thought, what happens if i'm there from the beginning and i understand everybody's role in this and how can i be a better supporter and teammate to everybody else, all these other craftspeople, and i felt like it was successful. >> when you were a little girl -- i know these chairs are clunky some people are born with a calling or a passion was that the way it was for you? >> uh-huh. it really was. it is a for memory i remember being in the second grade and feeling this burning desire but i was also very shy. so it is an interesting thing to be 34 years old and to have this life that i love so much that i get to do the thing that i love and it is all honoring this 7-year-old. >> let me ask you about that it is so interesting to be that young but to know something so clearly. could you put words to it? >> yeah, yeah.
8:41 am
i did put it clearly i don't know how i knew. i don't know how i had the language for it. but i did -- i did know. i did know and there is just -- you know, we're only given so many things like that in our life, the deep sense of knowing i'm just really grateful i have that and have parents that support it. >> i love it lessons in chemistry makes women feel good. >> that's sweet. >> i feel like the landscape is littered with all kinds of things that are meant to bring you down this is the thing. like when i saw this, i was like, this is the thing i have been looking for so i hope people check out "lessons in chemistry. it's been a long time coming and we're happy it's out it's on apple tv plus where all the good stuff is. brand-new episode, by the way, is out today all right. savannah, over to you. >> okay. we're doing lessons in chemistry over here with our new pots and pans jill is here a great batch of ideas get ready because stuff is just
