happy friday to you. it is 5:45, and we're heading over to brentwood with a look at how the day will shape up. we're having another cold start once again. we'll be in the upper 40s at 8:00, at noon it's 59, and reaching into the low 60s with a breezy wind this afternoon. parts of the bay area may see a little wet weather this weekend. i'll have a look at that in the full microclimate forecast coming up. fremont, 880, the nimitz, headlights southbound through fremont and toward milpitas. overnight they may do repair work for potholes over the next few weeks. right now nothing closed heading toward the south bay. we'll show you any slowing coming up. 5:46 right now. the white house and most democratic leaders are staying out of the debate whether to
5:47 am
kick george santos out of the house. >> scott mcgrew is here. that vote is going to happen today. >> this morning, yeah. good morning. it will most likely be successful as well. and you're right, the house is staying out of it, the white house is staying out of it. it's not their branch of government. there's no upside to taking an opinion on a controversial subject. democratic leadership following the lead. hakeem jeffries telling members, just do what you think is right. >> we have no official whip recommendation. we recognize this this is an issue of conscience. >> this is not the first time the house has voted whether or not to kick representative george santos out. but this vote comes after the house ethics committee accused santos of stealing money from his own political donors and his own campaign to fund a lavish lifestyle. santos, who also faces very serious federal criminal charges, seems resigned that come this afternoon he will no longer be a u.s. congressman.
5:48 am
>> i have accepted that i cannot control that fate, mr. speaker. i have done the best i can to serve in this body and deliver the best i can on my campaign promises to vote as a conservative voice in this body. i stand by that. >> kicking somebody out of congress is a very serious step. it's only happened five times before, three of them because they betrayed the union by supporting the confederacy, two, because they were convicted of crimes. never has anyone been kicked out before conviction. one of the gag orders against donald trump has been reinstated by an appellate court. it prohibits trump and his lawyers from commenting about judge engoron's staff like his law clerk. the order had been lifted as it made its way through the courts. trump took that opportunity to attack the judge's wife, writing the judge's trump-hating wife, along with his disturbed and angry law clerk, have taken control of the witch hunt
5:49 am
against me. a reminder, the judge, whose wife and clerk trump is attacking, is the one who will decide how trump and his sons and company should be punished for defrauding banks with what have been ruled false financial filings. trump's attorney is trying to stave that off as the trial defensor enters the defense phase. we have made it to december, which means christmas is just around the corner. to get us into the holiday spirit -- >> we're going to go live to "today in the bay"'s bob redell with a couple of wild animals, making new friends this morning. certainly not reindeer. >> not reindeer. we've got the sea lion for the annual holiday in the park. when people come out, they'll see the sea lions hit that
5:50 am
button and turn on the lights for the holiday. good morning to you. >> good morning. i was just asking before we went on, because everyone in northern california knows about sea lions. do they ever blink? >> you wouldn't think of that with the big, bulging eyes. they do. >> he's 20 years old, 470 pounds, from hawaii. been here for most of his life. i think erin was telling us he knows the most behaviors of the sea lions. how unusual is that? >> he probably knows about 50 plus behaviors. like you said, he is the longest and oldest animal we have, 20 years old. he's had a while to learn those behaviors. typically for younger animals, they can learn from five to 30, you know. but the longer they've been here, the more they know. >> let's show some of them. salute, i like that. what's that?
5:51 am
>> spank. >> wiggle. >> that's great. >> the best one he does. >> dance, that's great. >> and smile. >> grin. [ laughter ] >> and you said they're smart, maybe not like elephant smart, but like dog smart. >> at least dog smart, yeah. they are capable of learning so many things and they're well adapted to their environments. he shows it by how many things he's learned and he's constantly learning new things. >> this being holiday in the park, i mentioned it already, they turn on the christmas lights and you incorporate other holiday things? >> the idea of the show is basically tinsel the elf is an underpaid and overworked elf and not very happy about christmas. so the whole sea lion team and the seals and see lions took it upon themselves to try to change and uplift the holiday spirit.
5:52 am
they incorporate all the things you see with the lights and fun behaviors and things to try to lift up that christmas spirit. >> we don't get this close to sea lions often. i think the thing that's striking, you go to pier 39 and you can see they have teeth. they have some pretty big teeth. >> they do. >> they use that for eating fish. i mean, they're carnivores, but what are they using those teeth for? >> basically grasping fish. they have flippers, basically adapted hands. but, otherwise, they don't have hands like we do to be able to communicate. they use them for communication, but mainly eating. >> can we hear him before we leave? go ahead, wyland. >> oh, man. i might have to wipe my face after that. what happened here? merry christmas. thank you.
5:53 am
>> how cute. >> look at the slobber. can i wipe that off? dude, you're on tv. he needs a kleenex. >> one more shout-out. come on, bob. >> can you do one more? [ laughter ] >> whoa! i've got snot on me. >> merry christmas, bob. >> throw this thing in the water. >> i love it. >> merry christmas, buddy. >> got him! >> how cute. >> that's the story of the day right there. >> bob has his co-anchor. >> it is a cool opportunity to get up close and personal. >> yeah. >> it was good to see that. it's going to be a great weekend for all of the holiday festivities we have going on. let's talk about the forecast, and where we may see a little rain.

mostly in the north bay, while the rest of the bay area sees a partly cloudy sky. take a look at our temperatures, staying nice and mild into at least the start of early next week. mike, you were looking at the slowing in san jose. >> yeah, i was looking at the slowing in san jose. things have kind of cleared up here, 101 just north of 680. we still see slower sensors, but those should change. no more slowing for eastbound 580 at the dublin interchange. it looks like the slab replacement work may have cleared. a little build out of the altamont pass. we're driving down vasco, we're still at just 20 minutes from marsh creek down to 580, out of contra costa county and down toward 580, which moves smoothly once you pass grant line road. the bay bridge shows no real problems. we have the metering lights on but there's no backup at the toll plaza. there's just slowing as you head from the toll plaza up the incline because you're losing lanes. back to you. >> thank you so much.
