good friday morning. it is 6:43. we're taking a live view of 580 coming through dublin. really dense fog. all you can see are headlights. allowing some extra time to get through the tri-valley, and then
6:44 am
once we make it to midmorning it's all clear. the rest of the day is sunny as our highs reach into the mid to upper 50s. a look ahead to the weekend in a few minutes. it's a tale of two views. this is 580 through richmond heading toward the bridge into san rafael. more traffic flowing, more backup. we are looking at clear skies right here in this shot. look at that beautiful sun coming up. we're looking at the backup in the south bay. that's the biggest issue, the crash and closure coming up. well, new at 6:00, a popular san francisco business owner is now considering a run for mayor. i just confirmed this within the past few minutes. 34-year-old who owns manny's in the mission district, a bar known for hosting numerous political events, is considering the run. he says his recent visit to a family in israel made him do so. during the hamas attacks on october 7th, he was caught in an air raid and says the moment led to enormous self-reflection.
6:45 am
he plans to make a final decision on new year's day, that's ten months before the election. no reaction so far from the white house over the latest indictment of joe biden's son, hunter biden. >> this new indictment was expected, yet at the same time it's still shocking. >> expected, shocking, all siem ul simultaneously. hunter biden didn't pay his taxes. he has now, he's paid them back. unlike you and me, he did not pay his taxes when they were due and those added up to nearly $2 million. this was one of the issues hunter biden had bargained a plea deal over which fell through, which means now he's facing accusations again and could spend time in jail. that's the expected part. where it gets rougher for hunter biden is the indictment itself. the money he's not paying taxes
6:46 am
on are coming from foreign deals. not illegal that we know of, just foreign deals. and biden, according to the document, knows he's supposed to pay his taxes, but instead the defendant, quote, spent this money on drugs, escorts and girlfriends, luxury hotels, rental properties, exotic cars, clothing, and other items of a personal nature. in short, everything but his taxes, according to prosecutors. hunter biden also faces a gun charge in delaware alleging he lied on a federal form. these are both part of that deal that fell apart. so there are all kinds of nuances and complexities to this. first, it's extremely unusual for the government to threaten jail time for not paying taxes, especially if you paid them back eventually with interest. so the case is unusual. it's brought by the justice department, which works independently from the white house. that undercuts donald trump's
6:47 am
argument the doj isn't being independent. he says it's a partisan group out to get republicans. but the doj is simultaneously prosecuting trump, a republican candidate for president, and the current democratic president's son. trump blames the doj for most of his trouble, even if that has nothing to do with federal charges or federal court. this is civil court. he was in new york yesterday, nothing to do with the department of justice. listen. >> the doj, the white house, in order to hurt a political opponent and, actually, it's driving up my polls because the people of our country get it. >> it doesn't come out of the doj. the other major implication on this new indictment, of course, is how it affects his dad. the president is not accused of wrongdoing in the indictment, and a recent inquiry by the house oversight committee was unable to come up with any specific accusation against the president. but republicans are pushing
6:48 am
forward with an impeachment inquiry anyway. they could vote on that as early as next week. now, note, this is not an impeachment. it's an impeachment inquiry, the authorization of committees to investigate the president, which former speaker of the house kevin mccarthy asked them to do already, anyway. so we'll continue to watch for any movement, by the way, on the ukraine situation. as you well know, they have not funded ukraine in congress. we'll have the latest if they do. we'll be watching that carefully. back to you. >> thank you, scott. well, new at 6:00, it looks like wiley e. coyote has shifted his sights on a ceo. sam altman reportedly has a coyote in the back yard of his home. the new interview after "time" magazine named him ceo of the year, he talked about the

6:51 am
that? >> we're going to load these onto the truck and bring them back to our warehouse and on the 19th of december at our distribution center we're going to be distributing this all to families that have come to us for seasonal assistance. >> and last thing i want to ask you, if someone is watching at home and they're like, my gosh, i want to help now, can they still help and how can they do so? >> absolutely. this is a busy time of year for the salvation army. we do a lot throughout the year, but this time of year is very busy. if you go to sanfrancisco salvationarmy org, you can learn what we're doing. >> you did a great job. those elves, give them a round of applause. they did a great job, too. >> yes, they did a great job. >> thank you. >> they must have gotten a workout pushing those carts around and picking out toys.
