and the ongoing street closures. this is "today in the bay." good monday morning to you. i'm marcus washington. >> i'm kris sanchez. laura garcia has this morning off. we have a lot to get to this morning, but first we want to start with that breaking news in san francisco. "today in the bay"'s ginger conejero saab is at the scene of that massive fire. ginger, we understand you heard about a rescue. >> reporter: that is correct, marcus and kris. the fire was pretty intense this morning. i'll have more details on that person and the way they saved themselves from this fire. but the huge flames at this point are pout, but you can see behind us the extensive damage that was left behind by this three-alarm fire. we're in san francisco's panhandle neighborhood on masonic, over between grove and hayes streets.
6:02 am
you can see the building which burned down. crews telling me all three floors were on fire when sffd arrived on scene. it was immediately called a two-alarm fire because of its intensity. that intensity you can see here from video earlier this morning, this was taken around 3:30 in the morning, flames could be seen coming from the roof of the burning home. kris, what you mentioned, one person jumped off of the third floor, that's around 35 feet, i'm told, to escape this fire. that person who jumped out of the building, and another person who was able to walk out of the building, have both been transported to a nearby hospital. now, there was a partial building collapse from the building which burned down, neighbors say there was work that was being done to the bottom unit of the home that has not been confirmed by sffd. neighbors have been evacuated and are now in the care of red cross. >> i heard all the fire trucks and i woke up, grabbed all my

6:05 am
we are just above freezing in sonoma and santa rosa, and seeing some spots in the north bay also below freezing. as we take a live look outside in dublin, visibility is clear. we haven't had any issues with fog, but it is a cold start and you have to turn the heater on as you head out. we go from upper 30s to low 60s this afternoon. we'll see more weather like this over the next few days. mike, you also have a couple of fires in your report. >> we do, nothing like the one ginger was reporting. these are roadside, typically warming fires we see near on and off-ramps. at mckee, no lanes impacted. also here northbound 880, as you're coming toward hayward, another roadside fire. all lanes open. the slowing is southbound, the build for your commute. here, unusual slowing in the tri-valley, southbound 680, approaching the sunol exit. things are jammed up. there's a crash blocking at least one lane. 84 is definitely a better drive. the backup at the toll plaza is

6:08 am
>> we can't do everything on the border, but we can do the things to actually begin to control the border so that the united states is in control of our boundaries, not the cartels. >> i think this is one of the most dangerous moments i've ever faced in american politics and i wish republicans weren't holding israel aid and aid to ukraine hostage to the resolution of immigration reform. >> the white house says the president aides are directly involved in negotiations and are expected to ramp up efforts this week. president zelenskyy is also expected to have a one-on-one meeting with gop house speaker mike johnson during his visit to washington. a late development in berkeley's plan to debate a resolution calling for a cease-fire in the middle east. a new social media post from one councilman indicates tomorrow's debate is now scrapped. palestinian protesters first demanded that council adopt a resolution during a chaotic meeting last month. that led to the council adjourning to another room to finish city business.
6:09 am
the council never took up any debate, it was not part of the agenda at the time. council member robinson now says the resolution has been withdrawn. the posting gives no further indication as to why. for the next week, people along parts of the coast will actually have to brace for the return of the unusually high tides. we're talking about the king tides here, they're back, with peak expected later this week. whenever the king tides return, low-lying areas are prone to flooding. >> those happen in touristy areas and people have got to be shocked when they see sunshine and flooding at the same time. >> embarcadero, some of the piers. they closed the park and ride in the north bay, the manzanita park and ride. that's one of the areas that typically do see flooding. most of us will not have an impact. we're just entering into king tide season and it's because of the gravitational pull of the moon. right now we have a new moon, so it will be a little bit higher in some of those areas. when we get to the end of the

month around christmas, when we get to a full moon, that's when those tides will be coming farther inland and causing more of a problem. this morning, high tide will be at 9:24 in san francisco, coming up to about 6.4 feet, and just a little higher tomorrow, and that will be happening at 10:01 a.m. now, as far as anything that could bring us any flooding rains, we don't see that. it's going to be dry throughout the week. the storm track remains farther to the north and we will see, eventually, a change in this pattern that could bring us rain, possibly by early next week. i'll be talking more about that in a few minutes. mike has a look at gas prices around the bay area. >> the bay area has reached a new low, price i'm talking about. $3.87, national in san leandro on washington avenue. our best price, better than we've seen in months. the new best price in the south bay is $3.94, san jose's arco, and the last number is in the north bay. mill valley's best, $4.19 at hq

the upper 60s for the south county, while much of the rest of the bay area stays in the low 60s. the storm track remaining just to our north, and we are at times going to see some clouds coming in. it may not be until sunday, early next week, we finally see a change in the pattern that could bring us some wet weather. the jet stream has remained well to the north of us and it's been right over the pacific northwest, but we're expecting it to start to take a dip and drive some of that rain into the bay area, starting for the middle of next week or the beginning of next week into the middle of the week. so there's the possibility -- this could change, but looking at some of the colors here, some of our rainfall estimates going out into the middle of next week show about 1 to 2 inches of rainfall for parts of the bay area. and we really need a good amount of sierra snow, but at this time it shows that some of it will be coming down as rain. and by the time it wraps up as snow, it may be only about 2 to 4 inches.
6:20 am
we'll be watching that. once again, that's beyond the seven-day forecast. we may start to see rain chances going up late on sunday, especially for the coastline and san francisco. but all throughout the week our highs reach into the low 60s. mike, how is that commute building? >> the bay bridge looks pretty standard, backup forming. metering lights were turned on just before 5:30 this morning. i was worried about the volume that was visible coming through the area. we see a lot of lights at the golden gate bridge. we do see traffic flowing smoothly out of the robin williams tunnel into san francisco. lots of cars, but we're still doing all right as far as the focus points. mild out of richmond for 580. a little slowing, more for highway 37. we're looking at the bridge itself, a slower drive across the span for the bay bridge, and mild slowing for highway 4. we do have that trend, tapping brakes through pittsburg into concord.
6:21 am
walnut creek interchange moves smoothly. 680 toward sunol, that's where the problem continues. we have a crash with activity and still a lot of slowing through pleasanton. speed sensors are improving around the sunol exit. they may have moved that car from the roadway and to the shoulder. we're looking at a smooth flow of traffic. 84 is a good option because it joins in past the slowing. the south bay just starting to show the second slowing on 101. back to you. opening doors for bay area youth. up next, the way a local nonprofit is changing lives one job at a time. job at a time. this is a great story
