us and janice, good morning this is an astonishing mass murder in a normally peaceful country. what else do we know >> reporter: the country has declared a national day of mourning after this staggering attack in the city of prague, where 24-year-old gunman killed 15 people and injured 25 more at a university the circumstances around how and why it happened are still unclear. people are in shock, what the country's president described as helpless anger at the unnecessary loss of so many young lives. police had been tipped off to a large arsenal of weapons in an area close to the university building at the charles university building. they were tipped off also that the suspect was likely hiding there from his hometown, where it was later discovered that his father had been shot dead. police had evacuated one building at the university, thinking he would go there for a

lecture. then got called to shots fired at another building. images showed students being evacuated. their hands in the air some of them perched on the ledge of the building trying to escape the attacker. others barricaded themselves in the classroom. police officials say the suspect was known as a high achiever, that he had no criminal record, but that he was a legal holder of firearms, and that the attack was meticulously premeditated. they are not releasing his name quite yet. they say that they are looking into telegram posts as part of their investigation into what they are confirming is the worst mass shooting in the country's history. >> all right, janis mackey frayer for us, thank you the united nations security council has reached a deal on a resolution for desperately-needed aid to gaza the final vote is set for today, but it is expected to pass the diplomacy meanwhile for

peace is going much slower, with israel offering less than what hamas wants to accept. the end of the war seems nowhere in sight here's nbc's jay gray. >> reporter: hey, there. we are getting information from the israeli defense force that they are continuing their attacks in gaza. 230 targets hit, they say, over the last 24 hours from the air, on the ground and from the sea the fighting has become intense and focussed mainly on the northern part of the gaza strip where they are trying to establish control. with that all happening, as we are learning more about the three hostages in gaza who were killed by an idf sharpshooter. the three men were waving a white flag at the time and had escaped from hamas we now know, five days earlier, surviving on their own and on the run in gaza an army chief of staff has acknowledged it's against protocol to shoot anyone who

to do this chicago's mayor firing back. >> they're just dropping off people anywhere. do you understand how raggedy and how evil that is >> reporter: meanwhile, migrants are still arriving in eagle pass, texas, with massive crowds in this field. over 12,000 migrants per day crossing the border for three straight days now. the highest daily numbers ever recorded, three dhs officials tell nbc news. a record 27,000 migrants are now detained in cbp facilities where they will be processed and most released in the u.s. with customs and border protection completely overwhelmed, thousands of migrants have to wait in this field. many sleeping overnight in these cold temperatures creating a humanitarian crisis, as large groups continue arriving from mexico we spoke with this group of migrants from venezuela. he says a lot of the people are dehydrated because they walk for hours. he walked 30 hours when they arrive at the field in the u.s. they get sick
