famous for its independent streak. nikki haley is hoping the undeclared voters will make the difference for her in the closing days of the campaign because if they don't, this republican nomination race could be over as soon as it started. >> reporter: peter, you are absolutely right. new hampshire is mission critical for nikki haley after the disappointing third place finish in iowa. as you just heard shaq say, to win the state, she needs independents to turn out in force. they make up 40% of the electorate here. i spoke with them yesterday. they told me they are energized. a number of them undecided, peter. that will make a difference. can she pick off the voters who voted for chris christie? he has now dropped out of the race. you think about the magnitude of what a trump win here would mean.
5:41 am
not only would it give him extra momentum, but he is coming off that historic win in iowa. historic for that huge margin by which he won. if he would win in new hampshire, he would be the first non incumbent gop candidate to win in iowa and new hampshire, which means he stands a chance of potentially making history twice. peter, i go back to that point you made. if he were to win here, it would make the narrow path for haley and desantis that much more narrow and tougher. of course, all this happening as he is set to go to trial in two cases. >> kristen, i have to ask you, what is going on with senator tim scott? it is not unusual, to see endorsements this time of year, but after coming out strongly against him and everything he said, what is his end game now? >> reporter: well, laura, there
5:42 am
is the practical and the political. we know that both nikki haley and donald trump spoke to tim scott this past week and asked for his endorsement. he apparently finalized his decision on friday. this is a huge boost to trump and a state that is competitive than iowa. it is a huge blow to nikki haley for all of the reasons that shaq laid out. she appointed him in 2012. the fact he is endoring now could help give trump that extra momentum heading into tuesday. there is also plenty of buzz about tim scott as a potential vp nominee. by the way, other folks are getting a similar buzz have been here on the ground in new hampshire as well, including congresswoman stefanik. that is part of the picture. it adds to the air of inevitable for donald trump. you see republicans close ranks

around him. doug burgum. and marco rubio issued endorsements for donald trump as well as half of the gop members of congress. think about that. you do have republicans closing ranks and giving this inn evident ability. if he were to win, it would be significant and nearly unstoppable. laura and peter. >> we know you will cover it from top to bottom. kristen will have the latest tomorrow morning on the special edition of "meet the press." she will have senator maggie hassan and ron desantis and chris sununu. and good news on the economy for you saving up for inflatio the tech industry. the dow and s&p rising. the s&p is in a bull market
