here, headed this way. >> for sure. championship weekend, you were saying. also the last weekend of january. time is flying. get a check what's happening outside. trying to see the sunrise peek through the clouds in dublin. 47 degrees. cooler towards the tri-valley. 50 degrees in walnut creek under the cloud cover and san jose getting peeks of the sunrise at 51 degrees. along that cloud cover is thanks to a storm system just passing the bay area up towards parts of the california-oregon border bringing a few sprinkles to parts of mendocino, fading through the day today and a chance of a late, spotty shower later this afternoon and thissing evening. as far as temperatures go, very nice for today and nicer tomorrow. game day, that forecast for you. talking about when the next chance of rain is appearing in our seven-day forecast. back with you in about 15 minutes. time to silence the doubters

and reward the faithful. time to dig deeper. >> we are just about 32 hours away from the nfc championship game right here in the bay area. the 49ers hosting the detroit lions. a spot in the super bowl is on the line. 49ers fans from across the country and lions fans making their way to the bay area ahead of tomorrow's matchup. bars and restaurants getting their game plans set to host fans who didn't score tickets to the game. "today in the bay's" jocelyn moran begins our coverage from levi stadium. >> my whole life. ever since i was born. >> reporter: a 49ers fan ever since he can remember. being raise add fan by his dad. they landed at san jose international airport tonight in dallas. >> first home playoff game. yeah. super excited. >> reporter: they'll have a pretty good view. >> second or third row.

>> reporter: this fan is a season ticket holder and also will be there. >> hoping, you know, get that redemption versus the lions and pull it off. so -- >> yeah! >> reporter: if you didn't get the tickets at face value, you're now facing prices on secondary markets like game-time, vivid seats and ticket master. cheapest you'll find tonight around $400 to $500 at the top, before all the fees you also have to pay. lower sections looking at about $700 to a few thousand dollars. >> too crazy right now. expensive. exactly. >> reporter: like many fans, michael will watch the game from a restaurant or bar. [ speaking in a global language ] at the wagon sloon in downtown san jose they have chaste to allow a little more than 400 people in and think they'll reach that sunday with inside and outside bars open. not far from there, at a communal bar and restaurant, their watch party starts at 2:30 in the afternoon.

>> we have two, three projectors, and three tvs inside ant outside and banquet hall open to the public. >> reporter: fans have options and pretty confident they'll beat the lions. reporting for nbc bay area news. >> of course, not just santa clara. bars across can the bay area expected to be painged for tomorrow's nfc championship game. san francisco's historic kezar pub a favorite in the asbury district across from the niners first home. we made a visit checking how the pub is prepping for the game. they tell us they've stocked up on wings, drinks and are ready to work nonstop all day long. >> when the 49ers are in the playoffs, the warriors in the playoffs, giants in the playoffs, if you work that day, you take a break and come back and work. and -- we're all happy to do it. we love our teams. so good for the whole city.

go for us. we're happy to be here and, yep, double and triple-staffed up. >> the pub wants people to know they have tvs inside and outside on their patio. san francisco police and chp preparing for crowds and increased traffic in the city after the game closing several offrarps primarily around the mission district along 101 and 280 tomorrow night. a look at closures including cesar chavez street, mission street and san jose avenue. the closures will be in effect tomorrow night, 7:00 p.m. until midnight. of course, it's not all about the 49ers. the detroit lions will be at lehigh stadium as well. their fans are fired up heading for the bay area. we spotted some at sfo last night who are ready to see their team win. >> the flight was amazing. we had about two 49ers.

a lot of enthusiasm. >> and going to games 20 years and to have them go this far, been the first time in 30 years, we've got it big. >> reminder, teammates at nbc bay area, pregame coverage begins at 2:30 tomorrow morning. tune back for the postgame live from reaction from the locker room and expert analysis. in other news now, an investigation is und? er way in tahoe after police shot a knife-wielding man following a carjacking. it all started around 10:00 yesterday morning when a state parked police officer tried to stop a driver in a carjacking in tahoe city. the car eventually crashed in palisades, tahoe. police say the driver then got out and had a knife. the officer was forced to shoot and kill the driver.

a live look this morning in heavenly, in lake tahoe, where that resort is now investigating after a woman went missing after a mistake by resort staff. miraculously found safe inside a gondola. 15 hours later. monica lasso says she got in to the gondola just before 5:00 thursday night saying a worker told her to ride it back down. after she said she was too tired to snowboard down the mountain. lasso said a couple minutes in to the ride, the gondola stopped, leaving her stranded. she says she didn't have a phone to call for help. she says she screamed every time she saw a worker down below but no one could hear her. >> [ speaking in a global language ]. >> she said she fought with the cold old, the hours felt long as she tried to stay warm and that she's thankful she survived. crews say it wasn't until the

gondola came back down the mountain the next morning they realized she was in there overnight. now to a developing story. a wild scene unfolding in the north bay. this is surveillance video showing a woman who stole a chp patrol car and ditched it in a vallejo neighborhood. chp tells us the woman somehow managed to steal that patrol car while she was in custody for stealing another car. now the chp is looking for her again. "today in the bay's" pete suratos has details. >> reporter: this surveillance video shows a chp patrol car stopping near a driveway in a quiet vallejo neighborhood but the person hopping out of that driver's seat and jogging off isn't an officer. it's a woman just arrested hours earlier for a separate incident involving a stolen car. now chp is trying to find her. >> a lot of police activity, heard helicopters in the air,

and saw highway patrol cars driving down the street. >> surprised. one, because, yeah. i heard a couple around this area, not in my neighborhood specifically. >> reporter: according to chp driving a stolen car out of san francisco eventually winding up in vallejo. the pursuit called off. the car found and called chp. she was taken into custody and sitting in back of the patrol car in handcuffs then managed to get into the driver's seat and drive off. a neighbor showing her abandoning the car off university road and jogging away. j hp recovered the car and everything is still intact. telling me die spite all this they don't believe she's a threat to the comfort. it's still too close for comfort for residents hoping they is caught sooner than later. >> security cameras, do everything we can. keep it up, but, yeah. it's pretty ete suratos,

"today in the bay." a man stealing a car with a toddler inside facing a judge yesterday. viorel morari, bound set at $25,000. his attorney says he didn't know a 2-year-old was inside. the lawyer also told the court that morari has a drug problem. he carried the toddler out of the car, leaves him by the curb and drives away. less than a minute later, fortunately, a bus driver stopped to help the child. the boy was safely reunited with his mother. morari faces charges of carjacking, child abuse and kidnapping. 7's:10 on your saturday morning. much more on "today in the bay" coming up. january, in its final week. some people white knuckling it

but first -- the first boeing 737 max 9 flight with passengers onboard are back in the skies. alaska flight 1146, seattle to san diego, the first max 9 to return to flight last night. this after the faa ordered the plane's grounded following that mid-air emergency. three weeks ago the door plug on an alaska flight blew out over portland.igaors are looking at whether it was ever bolted in place. ntsb reports expected next week. eyed airlines will resume the max 9 flights beginning tomorrow. two passengers who were on that flight are now talking about their terrifying flight on that alaska airlines plane when the door panel flew off. joan and gilbert marin were two rows behind the spot where that gaping hole opened up.

>> it was very cold but everything was rushing out. so it didn't have a smell. just a roar. >> to look up and see those two seats empty right next to that hole. my heart just sunk. i had no idea, no idea. >> neither joan nor gilbert are planning a lawsuit yet. they are calling on the airline to do more to compensate affected passengers. that would be alaska airlines. back here locally, a nearly 90-year-old san francisco toy store is closing its doors for good. jefferies toys started as a five and dime variety store back in 1938. after generations of owners and 86 years in business, it's permanently closing its kearny street store in union square. the current owner tells us his $20,000 a month rent is not sustainable with a drop in sales, postpandemic and a rise in online shopping.

outside edge on the square, an art hub in chinatown. businesses that suffered during the pandemic say they didn't get the anticipated boost from the recent apec summit. supervisor saying why he's onboard with this large proposal to help businesses that didn't get the uptick from apec. >> we are on the eve of the chinese lunar new year, and thousands and thousands of people are going to be on the streets, and we want to help incentivize that by having a little parking fee time out. >> oh, that's good. the city also did a parking fee time out back in 2022 during the lunar new year to encourage more people to that part of the city. good luck to them? time to check in with cinthia pimentel for a look at our microclimate forecast. big weekend here. lots of people visiting, and we're kind of bringing out our chamber of commerce weather for them. at least tomorrow. >> i know. compared to last weekend, talking about rain. this weekend we're talking about the temperatures going up, as

much as 10 to 15 degrees above average. so right now we do have to deal with a few overcast skies for our saturday. as we see a storm system just passing to the north. it won't be too much in the way of our saturday plans, if anything maybe a stray shower coming in, into parts of the further north bay. mendocino county and a little blip around ukiah, around 12:30. otherwise, the rest of us for lunchtime, good to go staying dry for any kind of saturday activities you want to do. maybe get ready for the barbecue tomorrow. as far as our sunday plans, everybody is looking at this forecast. we're going to start maybe with a chance of some drizzle and bay area early morning, and clearing up going out into the morning and the staying dry and mild into the afternoon and so there's 3:30 for you. we'll see nice and dry conditions, and temperatures going up little by little, day by day. as far as today goes, 60s in the north bay. 66 santa rosa. 64 concord and mild 60s melt

soup as you go into mountain view and further into parts of santa clara valley. 71 san martin building temperatures more for tomorrow. this is going to be a kind of case of spring going into sunday. upper 60s in san francisco. 70s around parts of the tri-valley and we'll do 73 in mountain view and 72 for kickoff in santa clara. 3:30 tomorrow, perfect for tailgating. perfect during the game. into the end of the game, levi stadium in and around santa clara and san jose still a mild evening there. we do have to talk about what's ahead after this lovely weekend, because there is some rain to be mindful of in the forecast. watch with me as we take this model out into wednesday, thursday. our next storm system that's going to drag in subtropical moisture. rain estimates maybe three quarters to nearly two inches and typical hot spots, north bay and santa cruz mountains. winds picking up, chance of

"today" in the bays garvin thomas is catching up with some local olympic hopefuls including one athlete looking to snag her place on team usa for the fourth time. >> reporter: good morning, kira. you know when we talk about athletes in the olympics we often think it's the athlete who's lucky to go to the games. spending time with this artistic swimmer, the olympics lucky to have him. bill may. he's 45 years old in the sport since a kid, but being male in a predominantly female sport meant

he could only go so far. head coach of santa clara and performed with cirque du soleil and got the call men would be allowed to compete on teams with women at the olympics. bill remembers that moment well. >> [ laughter ]. you mean december 17th, 9:41 p.m. maybe a little bit. got a call, and they said, hey haw, going into the olympics. are you ready? i didn't even no ed to take a breath. you know? wasn't anything of, "am i ready." i was born ready. this is a dream anyone would want. to have this opportunity and support of my club, my coaches my friends, my family. it was an opportunity that i could never pass up. >> reporter: so bill unretired from what he guesses is the third or fourth time pouring all energy into helping his squad qualify for the games doing all this on a team the next oldest member is 25 years younger than bill. bill even coached some of his

teammates at santa clara before rejoining the team. the team is kbeeting next month at the world championships seeing if they qualify for the olympics. if they do 12 members on the team and have to pare it down to just 8. speaking of age, lily jeong knows what that's like. lily's sport is table tennis. at 12 years old youngest ever named to team usa. that was 15 years and 3 olympics ago. lily of course on the other end of age and experience calculation. age 27, she's attempting to make her fourth olympic team. grew up on the peninsula trains in fremont and says times over the years she thought about stepping away from the sport but then reminds herself of the great experiences the sport has given her. the olympics being the top of that list. >> i think my favorite part is meeting the different athletes of different sports. because usually when i go to international tournaments only table tennis, so awesome meeting players from different countries. then an olympics, every single

sport together and you really get to learn so much about different disciplines and see what other athletes get put in, and -- it's just, like, insane conglomerate of information, i guess. everyone's inspiring in their own disciplines. >> lily, a great sport during our interview and admitted off the bat the media part of being an olympian isn't her favorite but knows what it meant for her as a little girl to have someone like herself to look up and, well, she puts up with us. making this year's team, highest ranking american gets automatically put on team usa. lily is second. only two spots behind. if she doesn't end up number one, still qualifies during olympic trials in march. kira, back to you. >> garvin, thanks. 7:27. much more ahead on "today in the bay." coming up. >>. he says it's mild and comfortable out there. something we haven't seen in a while on our morning. thank you so much for starting your saturday with us. i'm kira klapper. cinthia pimentel has a peek at our microclimate forecast on this championship weekend. >> woo-woo 0. >> hosting lions fan niners fans and everything going on. >> saw a peek at flowers there, eara. hint, hint. almost valentine's day, everybody. all of that cloud cover right now is helping to keep those temperatures a little mild outside. only bringing a few showers up mainly towards the north as they deal with a stormy weekend. for us it's going to be comfortable. today temperatures will be in those mid to upper 60s. especially down here in the south bay. a good beach day in santa cruz overcast skies. temperatures not bad either going into tomorrow. look at this championship sunday. kickoff, 72 degrees for tomorrow. 3:30. the warm weather continues around the bay area. i'll have a full look of that microclimate forecast coming up

"today in the bay's" kris sanchez was at levi stadium and shows us what fans can expect. >> reporter: keira, if you want indication how much enthusiasm there is for the game coming up tomorrow, look how many niners fans showed up before the sunrise friday morning just to be a part of the "today" show pep rally, to show the country that niners fans are the best fans. now, we know there is another rally planned for later today at the plex in san jose. the niners are favorites going into the game. favored by a full touchdown. deebo samuel back in practice after a shoulder injury and if on the field tomorrow, kira, the word i keep hearing is that he and christian mccaffrey will create magic.

the woman abandoning the patrol car in a vallejo neighborhood yesterday afternoon and running away. according to chp driving a stolen car out of san francisco eventually crossing the bay winding up in vallejo. the pursuit called off. then vallejo p.d. found the car. taken into custody, sitting in the back of the patrol car in handcuffs when she then managed to get in to the driver's seat of the patrol car and drive off. now, police are trying to find her. >> there's a lot of police activity. we heard helicopters in the air, and saw highway patrol car driving down the street. >> chp recovered that car. everything still intact. despite all this they do not believe she's a threat to the public. former president donald trump must pay $83 million for damaging the reputation of writer e. jean carroll. last year can a jury found trump

liable for sexually abusing carroll in a department store in the 1990s. also found guilty of defaming her after she wrote about it. this trial focused only on the damages that trump must pay carroll. trump stormed out of the courtroom yesterday while a lawyer for carroll delivered closing arguments. he returned in time for his attorney's closing arguments. on his social media platform, truth social, trump you kaed the verdict ridiculous. he says he plans to appeal the decision. carroll, meanwhile, called the decision "a great victory for every woman who stands up when she's been knocked down." vince mcmahon founder of the wwe reresigned. serving add executive chairman of the board of tko holdings in addition to founder of the wrestling giants. resigned against allegations against him of sexual assault

and sex trafficking. mcmahon denied the allegations. he issued a statement saying his resignation was "out of respect for the wwe universe." "the tko business, its board members and shareholders." back here, locally, oakland's largest private employer is telling its workers to stay inside the office for lunch and breaks. this is all in response to crime in oakland. the recommendations came in the form of a memo to kaiser employees. people who work in the downtown oakland headquarters are urged to make the changes to their daily routines. they're not the only ones. blue shield of california with headquarters in oakland says it is now paying for ride-shares for its employees. also offering garage parking and private security to address crime concerns. safety in downtown oakland has workers divided. >> i think it's a bit of an overreaction. i have heard, you know, some

tomorrow sunshine picks up. seeing more clearing in the skies and do mild temperatures down here in the south bay. looking at mid-70s for san jose, and 70s continuing into parts of the east bay and the north bay as well. this will continue on into monday, too. let's take a look at that kickoff forecast. pretty good conditions. 72 degrees. so gorgeous for tailgating, any kind of barbecues, you want to do at your own house. no tickets to the game? that's okay. continuing with mild weather going into the afternoon, fourth quarter and very calm wind. overall looks like in for a 49er win. did it in the rain, we can do it in gorgeous sunshine. behind me, once we get through the mild weekend another storm system that's lining up here. winds will pick up starting tuesday. there is a chance of developing showers late tuesday night, but really the bulk of this will be as we go on into wednesday. here's what we know so far. here's that activity late tuesday. it will be into the wednesday morning commute that we start to

still searching for a woman who stole a chp cruiser and got away. surveillance video shows the moment she abandoned the patrol car in a vallejo neighborhood yesterday afternoon and ran. according to the chp, she was driving a stolen car out of san francisco eventually winding up in vallejo. when vallejo p.d. tracked her down they took her into custody. as she sat in handcuffs back seat, somehow she got into the driver's seat and drove off. police are trying to find her and do not believe she's a threat to the public. turning now to the 49er faithful gearing up for tomorrow's nfc championship game. yesterday morning fans who got up extra early for a pep rally could be seen on both nbc bay area and the "today" show. it all happened at the lot at city center bishop ranch in san ramon. in causey missed it yesterday,
