our microclimate forecast. boy, do we have great weather for this game today. >> oh, we do. there's lots of sunshine in store for everybody across the bay area. good morning, everyone. we're starting off in the 50s, so overall not too bad. a few high clouds are rolling around, especially towards the north bay, where storm ranger is picking up some light rain in norths of vallejo and yauntville, you're getting some of that light rain. we are in for not only records right now today in the 70s, possibly lingering into tomorrow as well, with a lot of sunshine. enjoy it while we have it. there are some changes ahead. we'll get into that stormy weekend conditions as we go further into the week. details coming up in 15 minutes. kira, back to you. >> cinthia, thanks. as we have been talking about, today is the day so many of us have been waiting for, the showdown in santa clara.

this is a live look at levi stadium where in just about 8 1/2 hours from now, the niners will face the detroit lions in the nfc championship game. the winner, of course, goes to the super bowl in las vegas. the 49er faithful here in the bay area and across the country are converging in the south bay. marianne favro kicks us off coverage. >> reporter: more than 70,000 football fans will descend on levi stadium later today. most of those fans are convinced that their team will win and head to the super bowl. last night, there was a lot of pregame celebracelebrating. >> let's get started. ♪ ♪ >> reporter: lights, lasers, and a smoke machine, all part of a neighborhood show in redwood city dedicated to the num. russ and his wife produced the tribute to the team as an ex-tension of their lol daylight

show. >> we have lasers, red, white, all colors of light that light up in the hospital, over here in the park. >> reporter: the show got 49ers fans fired up for the big game and motivated kids to bust a move, incluing 6-year-old evalyn webster. her favorite part? >> the songs that are in 49ers style. >> reporter: len willie has been a fan since he was 5. he just flew into san jose from delaware. >> i've probably spent $2300 already, and i just got here. so i'm probably going to spend a lot more this weekend. >> reporter: detroit fans also shelled out big bucks to see the nfc championship game in person. >> out here for the big game to watch the lions try to get to their first super bowl. >> reporter: across the bay area, a sea of red, as fans gathered for rallies or to buy last-minute merch.

levi staid parking lot opens at move. but you are encouraging to take light rail. if you are not ateblzing a game, head to a diner watch party, including here in san francisco. >> we're open for a thousand, 1100 people, something around there. >> reporter: the watch parties are free, but you need to reserve online in advance. sorry, the san jose party is already sold out. but plenty of bars and restaurants plan to welcome fans with open arms. no matter where they plan to watch the big game, niners fans are convinced by this time sunday, their team will be headed to the super bowl. by the way, i checked. you can still get a ticket for the game today online, but it will cost you about $450 for a nose bleed seat. in santa clara, marianne fav roy, "today in the bay." >> with the clock ticking, fans

are scouring bay area shops for niners gear to wear for today's game, whether they're watching from levi's from a watch party, or my favorite place, from home. red and gold was flying off the shelves at this dick's sporting goods in daley city. 49er faithful hoping for a strong performance and ecstatic that deebo samuel will be in the starting lineup. >> niners have to be on their a-game. we had a shaky moment last week. so we're excited, but we're thankful to the bay, always. >> fttb, of course, a trip to the super bowl lviii is on the line today. this is the niners third year in a row playing in the nfc championship game, but this year they had homefield advantage. the last time they played against the packers, they made it to the super bowl. thon flores is here with more. >> all right. are you ready? it is game day. the 49ers are taking on the

the rule of the law." the committee will mark up these articles of impeachment on tuesday at 10:00 a.m. happening locally, a morning of remember lance. today is three years since the brutal death of grandpa vicha. he was a leader in the aapi community and involved in a movement to stop asian hate. in 2021, the 84-year-old was shoved on a walk in san francisco. he died on january 30th from his injuries. people are gathering together today in san francisco to remember him at the asian art museum to commemorate and honor grandpa vicha and other recent victims of asian violence. that starts at 2:00 p.m. today. an oakland woman is speaking out after a bullet went through two walls in her home. she is a lawyer for the aclu who

also ran for mayor last year. around 10:30 friday night, she was in her east oakland home when her family heard about ten gun shots, one bullet hitting her home. >> reporter: what were the people in that house doing, what were you doing last night? >> my godson was sleeping last night in his room. my husband and father-in-law were helping clean up the house. they were in the kitchen, where the bullet went through the wall. >> what is it like, you and your family members talking after this event? i mean, you're fortunate the bullets didn't go a different route and somebody might be seriously injured or worse. what kind of conversations did you have today? >> i know that other oaklanders have not been so fortunate, that some people have been hurt or killed in their homes from stray bullets. we immediately, after the shots

welcome back. one week ago, nikki haley made head lines when she said donald trump and joe biden are equally bad for america, and we don't need two 80-year-olds in the white house. in a memo yesterday, hahaley's campaign unveiled a game called, who said it, citing biden and tremp, citing things both menned that said. join me in welcoming the moderator of "meet the press," kristen welker. you have an exclusive interview with nikki haley this morning. i'm wondering if she was able to tell you if this is her game plan, tying these two men together and questioning their cognitive abilities. >> absolutely. and it's clear that you can expect to hear more of those stepped up attacks from the former u.n. ambassador, nikki haley.

at the forecast ahead of the big game today. >> it won't be jacket out there for the 49ers game. everybody wants to see what is in store for that. but let's look at the north bay, waking up to some light rain showers out towards the coast, and moving towards parts of napa. it should fizzle out of here, giving ways to mostly sunny skies for sunday plans. a few high clouds still rolling around in the north bay. everybody else in store for that sunshine that will continue into this afternoon, giving us a little bit of a feeling of spring. so here is that 49ers forecast. that kickoff, beautiful, even before you get there, you're tailgating, having a barbecue at home. temperatures in the 70s with a calm wind, and keeping the temperatures mild as we go out of levi stadium tonight. so upper 60s in san francisco, as well as over in livermore. 75 in san jose, and in santa rosa. 71 in mountain view.

so overall, a beautiful day. look at where we are usually for this time of the year. we're in the 50s and some low 60s. today, we're going the bump those up from about 10 to 15 degrees. so winter is the fastest warming season as of late in north america, and we'll continue to see the changes into tomorrow, as well. still dealing with some mild temperatures in the 60s and some 70s. that will be about it. i want to talk about what's ahead as we track a more impactful storm that will arrive on wednesday. now, where the wind speeds pick up gusty out there. right now, seeing that rain moving in for the overnight hours into the north bay. but really, the heaviest part of this storm is going to be as we go into the amp. typical bull's-eye in the north bay mountains and the santa cruz mountains, too, as we go into that thursday commute. in between that chance of sunshine, make sure you know where your umbrella is. we'll continue with that rain on and off late thursday and friday, as well.

estimates right now as we put those final pieces together, again, notice where the dark shades of purple are on the map. we're seeing anywhere from two to three inches of rain. everybody should be in store for one to two locally, so just something to watch out for in that seven-day forecast. we're going to enjoy this beautiful weather, shaking off the winter blues for today and tomorrow in san francisco, where it start to feel mild and our inland valleys, low 70s. those changes start to arrive late tuesday. the winds pick up with a chance of showers moving on shore late in the night starting in the north bay. really, the most impactful of the storm will be wednesday and thursday of this week. >> a beautiful day today. all we care about now. cinthia, thanks. 7:20 right now. much more ahead on "today in the bay." coming up, that store yesterday rivalry between two of the ever to play basketball, steph curry and lebron james going to double overtime last night. sports is next.

atmosphere. >> we, of course, have been covering 49er pregame eventsll weekend long. continuing our coverage are our teammates at nbc sports bay area beginning at 2:30 this afternoon. after the game, switch back to their postgame live show from the locker room. we do have other news to get to this morning. in san francisco, u.s. senator la fonza butler, held an open house for constituents. it's one of her first public events in the bay area since she was appointed following the passing of senator dianne feinstein. she's not running for re-election in the fall to keep that seat, but she's trying to listen to californians, get their feedback. she hopes over her remaining ten months in office, she can encourage more young people to get involved in the political process. >> i may not be here for a long time, but i invite you to be here with me for a good time.

>> butler went on to tell our alyssa gourd she does not plan to enforce any of the candidates who are running to replace her in november. now to our other top story this morning. three years ago today, a man affectionally known as grandpa vicha, was attacked in san francisco. he ended up dying. it was a flashpoint of the rising hate crimes against the asian community. the suspect, three years later, has yet to face trial. grandpa vicha was violently pushed to the ground on a walk near his home, and two days later, died from his injuries. our janelle wang spoke to his daughter as another painful anniversary is here. here's their conversation. >> reporter: there isn't a day that goes by when she doesn't think about her father. she walks about vicha ratanapakdee way every day.

it was renamed in 2022. the street is where her father used to exercise. >> when i see my dad, i see him smiling and his kindness. he's a loving man. he's a family man. he loved us. he said, when you have love, you have no space for hate, no room for hate. >> reporter: grandpa vicha's death fueled the national stop asian hate movement. >> justice for vicha. >> reporter: she never wanted the public spot light. >> as a daughter, i am a victim. i always bring myself, mike i could not save my father's life. that's why i'm feeling like -- but when i see the youth, my son, who is helping me, told me mom, stand up. that's why i keep continuing to do this for the community. this is hard.

>> reporter: three years later, there is still no trial state set for antoine watson, the man accused in her father's death. >> the delay in court proceeding is challenging and has been delayed. it's very frustrating. >> reporter: despite that frustration, she pushes forward. on sunday, the anniversary of grandpa vicha's attack, an invite only gathering in san francisco of community members, including activist helen zea and justin goh, the father of michelle goh, who died in 2022 when she was pushed in front of a new york subway. a street renaming after grandpa vicha will also happen in thai town. >> i would like my dad to be remembered as a fighter for the future generations. >> sunday's event in san francisco will be live streamed on the site at 2:00 p.m.

the next court date in grandpa vicha's case is february 7th, when a judge is expected to set a trial date. janelle wang, nbc bay area news. also happening today, a memorial service is planned for two of the victims killed in a small plane crash near half moon bay. it's for the pilot, and one of his passengers. they were a couple from the east bay engaged to be married with a wedding just days away. also killed in the crash earlier this month was 27-year-old emma wilmer of san francisco. today, services happening back in vermont where petit's family live. the 27-year-old fairier held a degree from m.i.t. his 26-year-old fiance was from oakland. the search for this man is

temporarily off. he is an attempted murder suspect. investigators put out an alert around 6:00 last night for that man, christopher crowell. they haven't given many details about why he's an attempted murder suspect, but he is believed to be armed and dangerous. an attack happened at mt. madonna park, ten miles west of gilroy. the website lists the park is closed until further notice. that's where authorities are searching. last night, the sheriff's office paused the man hunt. they were waiting until this morning because it was too dark and the terrain too difficult. here is another look at that man at the center of the search. anyone who sees him is urged to call 911. new this morning, the marin municipal water district says all seven reservoirs have hit 100% capacity this week. at the start of the water year in october, reservoirs were

gaining more moisture in the atmosphere too, as we'll come back down into the upper 60s and more rain will start to be approaching the shoreline here very early wednesday. things turn breezy, as well. this is a day that we're watching out for that rainfall. temperatures turn back to the upper 50s. so average for the north bay. and mid 60s down here in the south bay. here's what we know so far as far as the rain timeline. 3:00 in the morning rolls around, seeing that light activity for the north bay. mostly cloudy skies as we watch for heavier rainfall to develop in the afternoon. so that wednesday commute would be a little slick, but really it's the overnight hours that we'll watch in the north bay and the santa cruz mountains with those gusty winds and the possibility for some minor flooding. as we go into thursday and friday, some of those showers linger. but, again, the heaviest part will be early on, on wednesday and overnight into thursday morning. those wind speeds right now could warrant a wind advisory from the national weather service as we look at the gusts

out of the south around 20 to 30 miles per hour. so just prepare for that, and while we have this beautiful sunshine this weekend and we'll take it into our next rain chance that will come about as we fast forward into next weekend. scattered showers from the system on saturday, but we'll watch at the bottom of the screen, this system approaching california into next sunday and monday. but overall, 70s for today and tomorrow and our inland valleys. we'll watch the clouds and rain roll around late tuesday into wednesday. >> cinthia, anks. we hthav

last year, the san francisco library had the most digital checkouts at 3 million. santa clara had 2 million. and then 1 million, san jose public libraries. now, this is all according to overdrive, which helps libraries manage their catalogs. librarians in san jose say it's not just books. >> these books, it's audio books, music, movies, and we also have a lot online learning platforms or resources that people can all still use, like abc mouse, linked in learning, language learning, resources as well that are all available to people absolutely free. >> now, verity was the top book of 2023. "fourth wing" was the top audio book. and the topographic novel was "big nate, release the hounds."

showing the contrary. so after all this, the jury last year awarded her $5 million for sexual abuse. former president trump decided that he was innocent, despite the charges and the results, and he went on saying all year long that she had lied about him, and that she was hurting his reputation. of course, she said you're hurting mine because of what the judge said, what the jury said. and so she took him to court again for defaming her. went through the whole thing. a jury this time decided that the penalty would be $83.3 million. let that sink in. $83.3 million. why so much money? because the idea is, if you're not stopping this, we aer going to charge you more. come back again and the likelihood is it would be beyond that. these numbers are astounding. of course, the president said he's going to appeal. >> and appeal aside, there's a

lot of litigation pending for trump this year. >> i'm telling you, this is a full-time job for anybody. when you consider what's coming up, march 5th -- 4th, excuse me, is the first time we'll see this again, potentially where the president goes before the court because of the insurrection charges that were given against him for all the things that happened around january 6th. now, that probably is going to be delayed, because of various appeals. after that, they've got march 25th which has the hush money case. porn star payments to stormy daniels that were done illegally, that is coming before the court in new york. then we have government documents trial in may. those are the documents that he held illegally that he shouldn't have, at least allegedly. that's supposed to be going on. on august 5th, it's the georgia racketeering trial. that's the last one.

by the way, i neglected to mention that the next week, next week there's a penalty for former president trump about the illegal doings with his businesses that could be as much as $370 million, maybe more. put these all together. you're talking about a very busy person. >> yeah. and that trump legal calendar you just showed is, if we were to align it with a republican primary calendar, there's a lot going on having this happen in the same year as an election that he's running in. >> i don't know how it could happen, frankly. former president trump said you should put all these trials off, because i've got other things to do like an election. the courts are saying, listen, that's not our business. our business is justice. therefore, these trial also go on. a lot will be delayed. if one is delayed, they will all be delayed. it's like dominos falling. no doubt, there will be efforts to try him on some of these

welcome back. here's a quick look at the top stories we are following on this sunday morning, including today, marking three years since the death of grandpa vicha. vicha ratanapakdee was 84 years old when he was shoved to the ground while on a walk in san francisco in 2021. he died from his injuries on january 30th. his death touched off a movement against anti-asian hate across the u.s. today, the asian art museum of san francisco will hold an event to honor grandpa vicha and other victims of anti-asian violence.

it starts at 2:00 p.m. we continue to follow breaking news. the house homeland security committee is moving forward with two articles of impeachment against the u.s. secretary of homeland security, alejandro hayorkes, claiming he violated laws regarding immigration and border security. it concludes saying he's acted in a manner grossly income pat able with his duties and the rule of law. the articles of impeachment will be marked up on tuesday. and now to the showdown this the south bay. a live look at levi's stadium, where in just a few hours the niners will face the lions in the nfc championship game. the winner goes to the super bowl in las vegas. more than 70,000 fans will descend on levi's stadium. kickoff is at 3:30, and the bay
