backup forming quickly. things are sorting out to your typical pattern. this will start to move better, 37 and highway 4 showing more congestion than past weeks. same patterns. the peninsula, no delays. in the east bay, we have 680 as you come toward sunol, 101 north toward san jose, and, of course, hayward starting to build around the san mateo bridge. back to you. >> thanks, mike. just about everyone this morning is talking about the remarkable nfc championship win for the 49ers to clinch a spot in super bowl lviii. talk about a levi's roller coaster. this one had more ups and downs than the rides at neighboring great america. >> the niners facing the chiefs 13 days from now in las vegas. "today in the bay"'s kris sanchez joins us with a closer look at what's already a very special season for the faithful. >> reporter: i don't think that my heart rate has recovered just yet. it was really hard to sit through that first half, painful. the lions were on fire, putting
6:03 am
the niners 17 points back going into halftime. i bet there was a lot of nervous snacking during the halftime hour. the niners came back, they erupted, pulling off a comeback that thrilled the home crowd at levi's stadium. they were taking pictures, they were buying merchandise, they were considering new tattoos, and even started making plans to head to the super bowl in las vegas. one fan even booking a hotel room at the game. now, we did find a couple who admitted that their faith was really put to the test. >> of course i was nervous. but when you're at home and you have 70,000 plus people rooting for you, you believe in yourself. >> reporter: the niners will be taking on the kansas city chiefs. you see them here. this will be a rematch of the 2020 super bowl. marcus, close your eyes. the chiefs beat the baltimore ravens 17-10. we'll get you a gatorade towel.
6:04 am
this will be the chiefs fourth super bowl in five years. the last time the niners went to the super bowl was four years ago. i did check the sports books. they have the niners as a slight favorite, believe it or not, three points. >> we believe it. >> the super bowl is february 11th, or as our less than sporty "today in the bay" teammates say, 13 days until the red team battles the other red team and an usher concert. >> some of our staff says that. >> it's not for everybody, but that's okay. football is about community. you watch together, root together. if you just watch the halftime show, that's okay. >> it's always fun. >> the commercials. super bowl is just kind of a americana. >> we grew up and when we were little, we didn't care about the football, but we knew we were going to be together. >> my kids are already planning the snacks. >> so the nice thing, i really enjoyed watching the postgame stuff, the niners thanked the
6:05 am
fans. each and every one, faithful, faithful. >> and the previous niners, jerry rice was there, joe montana. it was great. >> it was funny because they didn't want to hand that trophy over. did you see that during the presentation? >> you want to hold on. we're holding onto this moment and celebrating. stay with "today in the bay." we're going to have fun stuff going on. everybody is buying their gear. we've got a live look inside dick's sporting goods. look at that, it's all lined up and ready to go. you can get your hands on that nfc championship gear. the store opening up at 7:00. we, of course, already saw long lines at several locations last night as folks were already rushing out to get that gear. >> you want to brace for the wave of what that scarlet and red over the next few weeks. some of the first appeared just a short time following the niners big win last night. here is a look at the recently relocated sky star wheel at

fisherman's wharf last night. about 25 blocks away from there, sky ranger also spotting city hall bathed in niners colors. our san francisco buildings, others also lit up in red and gold, and of course we'll have coverage from las vegas for you. we'll have a team of anchors and reporters heading to cover all things 49ers. until then, you can see all of our full coverage of last night's game and everything leading up to the big game by going to our website, that's nbcbayarea.com. now to the day's news. it is 6:05. we are working to learn more about a gruesome discovery near the oakland coliseum. someone found a body floating in the water near coliseum way and independent road. the area very close to the san leandro bay, which is bordered by alameda, oakland and bay farm island. police say the body was discovered about 4:30 on sunday afternoon. we're still working to learn what led up to the person's death. in the south bay, law enforcement are still trying to
6:07 am
track down the man who fired a gun at someone over the weekend. so investigators still are looking for the man you see right here, this is christopher crowell. they say on saturday he shot at someone who was trying to serve him legal papers. this happened at his home near mount madonna park, about ten miles west of gilroy. the victim was not hit and got away safely. santa clara county sheriff's office says he was barricaded inside his home after the shooting, but managed to escape into the park. here is that picture one more time. he is considered armed and dangerous. if you see him, you are asked to call 911. a helicopter rescue in napa after an accident happened yesterday near st. helena. two boys seriously injured while riding their dirt bikes. the chp brought a helicopter to transport them to childrens' hospital in oakland. we don't know their conditions right now. napa chp is investigating that

incident. it is 6:07 right now. we take a live look out at walnut creek. meteorologist kari hall has been tracking what we can expect. we've been dealing with a lot of rain lately, then some sunshine. today it is sunshine. >> yeah, it's going to be like spring out there. and a lot of people breaking out the shorts for the afternoon. a little bit of a break before we see more changes ahead. our temperatures today reaching into the upper 60s and low 70s, even some mid-70s for the south bay. and then tomorrow eventually we'll start to see more clouds come in as the rain approaches from the north, and for the middle of the week, wednesday, thursday, rain, wind and the potential of flooding. so let's get started this morning in martinez where it's all clear. it is 46 degrees, and after the cool start we are going to see our temperatures headed for the mid-50s at 11:00, and some low 60s going into the afternoon, eventually reaching a high of 69 degrees there and 68 degrees in san francisco, and 75 for morgan hill. we'll get a look ahead to that rain coming in, we'll talk more
6:09 am
about that in a few minutes. mike has a look at lower gas prices. >> we do have a good opportunity for you to find a price below 4 bucks, if you're paying cash especially. san jose, $3.79 at kwik serv on alum rock avenue. in contra costa county, we're going to look at concord's die diamond gas and mart. the north bay, $3.63 at the bottom, vallejo's royal gas on tennessee street. these are on gasbuddy.com. on the roadways, a smooth flow of traffic, south of the san mateo bridge, no surprises. the bay bridge has a surprisingly slow drive, backed up from the incline. no incidents reported, we'll continue to follow that. the toll plaza itself stays congested. it is moving. you can see slight movement. but that's a pretty big build. if you typically choose between another of the bridges, san mateo or the richmond bridge, you may examine those this morning. back to you.

good monday morning. it is now 6:12. in oakland, in the low 50s as we head out, and it's going to be a clear start. it will be mostly sunny for most of the day as our temperatures reach into the upper 60s. a really nice day ahead. and the rain is coming back. i'll have more in a few minutes. and that first burst of traffic causing slowing through san jose has just about cleared out for northbound 101. we're taking a look just north of that, to the 280/680 interchange. we've got another 20 to possibly 30 minutes to reset for the next burst. we do have slowing as you're heading south on the nimitz past the san mateo bridge. that's 92. we're getting more congested and there may be more folks choosing this because of the bay bridge

6:17 am
with the forecast, something for everyone. >> i was in vegas over the weekend and they are ready for the super bowl. you can pretty much watch anywhere there. hopefully the weather cooperates. we know we have the pick of anywhere across the country, the best weather right here in the bay area, as our temperatures are starting out in the mid-40s and low 50s this morning. it is clear and we're going to have a beautiful sunrise as we enjoy another day of sunny skies and near record high temperatures. take a look at what the forecast is for today and what the record is, on this date in santa rosa in 2015, the record was 70 degrees. we're supposed to be in the mid to upper 50s, so we're looking at much warmer than normal temperatures. livermore most likely setting a record high that was set back in 1931, and in san jose we may set a record that hasn't been set since 1931. so as we take a look at our temperatures and what we're seeing, look at the radar and
6:18 am
satellite. a large storm system is approaching. right now it is hitting the pacific northwest with an atmospheric river that's basically a river of moisture that's going to be coming in, enhancing the amount of rainfall as it waves up and down the coastline. we'll see it come back to the bay area on wednesday morning, continuing into thursday, as well as friday. so we're going to have at least three solid days of some rain chances in there and then a brief break before more rain comes in later for next weekend, possibly a very stormy setup coming. so as we take a look at how much this initial wave of rain will bring for parts of the north bay, it could be 2 to 3, possibly higher amounts along the coastline. most in the bay area will get at least an inch of rainfall. that's going to enhance that threat of flooding. and then for the sierra, we do have a lot of snow coming in within the next week, the possibility of about 2 to possibly 2 1/2 feet of snow. looking at our temperatures, they're going to be dipping after the next couple of days as
6:19 am
that rain moves in, gusty winds, and we're going from highs in the low 70s today to upper 60s tomorrow with a few more clouds. and then rain on wednesday, starting in the morning, continuing off and on through friday, and only a break on saturday as our highs reach into the mid-50s. so big changes coming our way. of course as you check in every morning, i'll keep you updated. mike is keeping us updated on the roads. >> bay bridge is seeing changes, and an incident pops up on the bay bridge from chp. however, as that incident at the bay bridge pops up, we see everything smooth out. there may be a lag in our information getting through the system, for folks reporting it on the roadway, the bridge much more smoothly over the last five minutes. the backup at the toll plaza has not gotten worse. i see more movement here. whatever crash is reported near the toll plaza, it is on the shoulder. maybe some spectator slowing, but everything looks to be moving better. still the backup builds. now it's slow coming off of the

maze, so use that note if you're coming in out of oakland and highway 24 out of lafayette. a smooth drive from 37 and the north bay just shows the build in volume out of vallejo. same into concord, but things look calmer for 242 and still smooth toward walnut creek for the interchange. contra costa county not a major issue, hold on for that thought. we are looking at the speed sensors throughout the south bay and peninsula. it's still moving very well. contra costa county, as folks head south on vasco road, up to 23 minutes. not bad heading toward 580. a gradual build out of the altamont pass as well. highway 4 maintains pretty good speeds. i just showed you the slowing into concord. 6:20 right now. coming up next, nbc bay area responds. >> tax time is here. we want to help ease your stress with this year's tax timelines, plus the best times to ask for
