12:01 pm
is responsible. deal in sight? the biden administration and bipartisan group of senators appear to be on the verge of immigration. royal relief, king charles and princess kate are both home today after their hospital stays. and ready for a refund? tax season is officially here, folks, and this year there are some big changes. what to know before you file that can save you money. we'll begin this hour in the middle east, where we're waiting to see how the biden administration responds to the deadly drone attack which killed three american service members, on sunday a drone packed with explosives hit tower 22 a logistics support base in northeast jordan, according to two pentagon officials this was the third time the base has been targeted in just the last six months more than 40 others were injured. the white house saying some of the troops were asleep when the strike hit. president biden is blaming the attack on iranian-backed
12:02 pm
militant groups and they've been trading strikes with the u.s. for months. this is the first time american troops died in an attack. the president and his secretary of defense are promising retaliation. >> president and i will not tolerate an attack on u.s. forces. and we'll take all necessary actions to defend the u.s. and our troops. >> let's bring in courtney kube and ali raffa. we just learned moments ago the identity of those three soldiers who died. >> reporter: all three of them deployed out of georgia, specifically out of fort moore in georgia, they are sergeant william rivers from carrollton, georgia, specialist briana alexandra moffitt, all assigned to an battalion deployed out of
12:03 pm
georgia. we're learning more about the attack, though, that took their lives and now as we have just heard from the pentagon briefing just moments ago at least 40 additional service members were now injured. this attack was one-way drone, they landed near a living room, sleeping area for troops, that's why the casualty high was so high here, where troops were sleeping at the time and more than 40 people injured and killed in this attack. now as you mentioned we have learned that this is not the first time an attack drone has targeted tower 22, on the northeastern side of jordan, just on the other side of the border in syria, from syria, so, this now the third time we're told in about the last six
12:04 pm
months or so that a drone has targeted tower 22, but this was the first time that this was a successful attack. we're learning according the pentagon briefing still ongoing right now, that one of the leading theories here is that a hezbollah an iranian-backed militia group, a branch is one of the major groups they're looking at who may have been responsible for this attack. >> three american soldiers kidd, at least 40 injured. ali, the president met with his national security team earlier today, what are we learning about those discussions? >> reporter: yes, the white house actually shared this photo of president biden meeting for the second time since this attack on sunday night, with his national security team, this time in the situation room to weigh his options on how to respond to this attack and that's something that admiral john kirby with the national security council was repeatedly asked about in the white house
12:05 pm
press briefing saying he wouldn't get ahead of the president's decision. he also added this. listen here. >> we'll do that on our schedule, in our time, we'll do it in a manner of the president's choosing as commander in chief. we'll also do it fully cognizant of the fact that these groups backed by tehran have just taken the lives of american troops. i think i'll leave it there. >> reporter: kirby was also repeatedly asked about the potential for the u.s. to strike directly on iran, something that a lot of gop lawmakers are now calling for, kirby notably not saying either way whether the president was considering this, just saying that the u.s. doesn't want to escalate tensions in this region, this is a very delicate decision-making process for the president as he tries to not escalate the situation but also trying to respond forcefully. >> thank you so much. at this hour, we're learning

new details about negotiations between the united states, israel, egypt and qatar to free more hostages. they're agreeing on framework that would release the remaining american and israeli hostages. that draft is being presented to hamas today. raf sanchez joins me now from tel aviv. hamas officials have previously said they would only release more hostages if israel ended the war, what makes this new proposal from negotiators different? >> reporter: that's the big question, we know that israeli negotiators at this summit in paris, including the cia director, signed off on the frame work of this agreement, we don't know yet what hamas' take on it is going to be, our own adrienne mitchell sat down with a qatari mediator. when he was asked how hamas is
12:07 pm
likely to respond, this is what he had to say. >> we don't know and we can't predict what hamas' response will be, and we'll be faced with some challenges and obstacles. it's not an easy process from day one in the war but we're committed to continue to come up with some solutions. >> reporter: and israeli war cabinet is looking at this proposal tonight so we may get formal approval from the israeli government little later on. >> another development, israel detailing its accusations against the u.n. agency that provides aid to palestinians, alleging members of its staff participated in the october 7th attacks and in response more than a dozen countries are now suspending their funding to that agency.
12:08 pm
>> reporter: so, earlier we obtained an israeli security document and it outlines allegations of 12 members of staff at unrwa. one example, one school counselor is alleged to have entered israel on october 7th and taken part in the kidnapping of a female hostage there, these allegations serious enough that the u.s. and other countries cutting off funding in the middle of this dire humanitarian crisis in gaza, unrwa, this agency said its ability to help 2 million palestinians depending on it, impacted by these cut in funding. >> thank you so much. here in the u.s., convicted murderer and disbarred attorney alex murdaugh is back inside a courtroom today where murdaugh and his team are trying to prove that jury tampering led to his murder conviction. kathy park has been following this case from the very

12:10 pm
dismissed, she was just questioned by both sides a few moments ago. >> kathy, who else did we hear from today? >> reporter: so, we heard from all of the jurors, all 11 of them, the 12th juror actually had to take the stand on friday due to a scheduling conflict, but what was interesting all the jurors we heard from today, all their questioning they said they were not influenced by becky hill except there was one juror, juror z who had a different response and said, yes, i was influenced by becky hill. meanwhile, speaking of becky hill, she's really at the center of this legal fire storm and here's a little bit from her testimony a few moments ago. >> i usually give a little pep talk to the jurors, it's sometimes hard sitting a long time. but my usual and i do remember saying, pay attention, this is big day today, whatever you need, let mr. billion know and
12:11 pm
they'll be glad to get it. >> were your comments in any way phrased in favor of one side or against an other side? >> no. it was not for one side or the other. >> reporter: so, becky hill once again is no longer on the stand, she continued to deny the allegations of jury tampering. today will be an interesting day. the judge is known to rule from the bench, but it could be a day or two before we have a final decision. >> kathy park, thanks so much. time now for today's must be minute. social media platform has blocked searches for superstar taylor swift and a new edition is coming to amazon prime video. let's start in china, the largest property developer evergrande was ordered to liquidate over the weekend after a restructuring deals fail.
