we are seeing the 30s, and layer up before you head out the door. the highs headed for the mid to upper 50s in novato and san francisco. 57 for a high today in los gatos. we are going to have a couple spotty showers developing this afternoon in time for the evening commute. most of the day it will be clear and then suddenly the clouds will bubble up and we will see scattered showers and then tapering off tonight, and that's it. after that we are dry. we will talk about that more coming up. mike, you are talk about the traffic slowing out of san francisco? >> yeah, and if anything happens it will ripple back and cause more slowing on the maze and the east shore freeway. treasure island, there towards the city and the rest of the san francisco exits, general slowing

and no major issues. and then south bay starting to bog down. i will check out what is going on. the crash should be off the freeway there. we have an alert further north on 101 and railroad avenue, there's a crash. other than that, typical patterns. back to you. >> thank you, mike. the lights are still out for thousands of customers across the bay area. >> it's been a test of their patients. ginger conejero saab is live in daly city where some are still in the dark. are we getting updates from pg&e? >> reporter: we are getting those updates, laura and marcus. pg&e calling last sunday's storm the strongest single-day storm to hit their service area, and they are moving forward with getting the lights back on as this neighborhood in daly city has seen improvements. we were out here yesterday when more people were still

experiencing outages. nonetheless, there's still lots of work to be done because more than 12,000 pg&e customers are still without power days after the heavy storm. the north bay has especially been hit hard. several days later, hundreds of customers in sonoma county have been trying to get by without heat, lights and in some cases without water. in a rural area in sonoma county, pg&e crews actually had the power back up and then yesterday afternoon, a car slammed into a power pole and the power went out once again, meaning no electricity and for some, no water. >> almost all the houses around here are on wells, so most houses have a water tank, but if the pump goes out for the wells, then some places could be in trouble. >> reporter: now the latest numbers from pg&e this morning, they do show progress from 15,000 last night down to 12,000

pg&e customers without power this morning. we were just talking about the north bay, over 8,000 customers there are still waiting for the lights to be turned on again, and along the peninsula, 1,600. less than 3,000 customers down in the south bay are without electricity. i will switch gears a bit. take a look at the sinkhole in san francisco. it caused some headaches on the roads yesterday. it opened up near the intersection of 14th and guerrero. that's in the mission district. public works crews say the hole is about eight feet deep but are not sure fit was triggered by the weather. and pg&e say their numbers include not only storm outages but new ones. if you are without power for 48 consecutive hours, you are eligible to get a credit on your pg&e bill, that will happen within 60 to 90 days. you can get a credit from $25 up

to $100. you can also file for reimbursement on the pg&e website for things like if your food went bad because the power was out. those are things to really look into if you have been struggling the last few days. >> lot of options, but i am sure they want their power back on. thank you. a man accused of shooting into a peninsula church scheduled to be arraigned. it happened last month in south san francisco. nobody was injured, but the front windows were blown out, as you can see there. a few hours later police arrested the suspect, the 22-year-old, who is expected to face charges, including attempted murder. today supreme court justices will hear arguments in a landmark case regarding former president donald trump. we have a live look at the supreme court building in washington, d.c. at issue, whether colorado can exclude the former president

from the state's 2024 presidential ballot. the high court will determine whether colorado can under the 14th amendment. brie jackson is live from washington. these are high stakes we are talking about here. >> yeah, you are right. good morning, laura. today the supreme court will be weighing the arguments whether former president trump should be disqualified for running for president because of his role in the efforts to overturn the 2020 election, and the january 6th attack on the u.s. capitol. whether former president trump can legally be on the 2024 ballot is a question before the high court today. this after colorado's supreme court kicked the gop frontrunner off the state's republican ballot citing his role and events leading up to the january 6th attack on the u.s. capitol. colorado's secretary of state says the message is clear. >> states can rightfully

disqualify insurrectionists like donald trump. >> the case centers around section 3 of the constitution's 14th amendment. it bars anybody who has engaged in insurrection from holding federal office. trump claims the case is to stop his latest run for the white house. >> they want to silence me because i will never let them silence you. >> the trump campaign called colorado's state supreme court decision flawed and his lawyers appealed to the supreme court. today, justices will hear both sides. >> so you know, the issue of sort of how one deals with the 14th amendment is initially before the supreme court, and they could rule against donald trump in which case there's no further inquiry. even if they overrule the colorado supreme court, we will still have the decision about whether somebody who engaged in

good thursday morning. the time is 6:14. we are seeing the sun about to rise over dublin, and it's mostly clear to start out today. we will see a mix of sun and clouds into the afternoon with a slight chance of some rain later today, but we only make it up to about 52 degrees here for a high temperature. we will get a look to the weekend coming up in a few minutes. the golden gate bridge southbound traffic moving smoothly through the north bay, and then you have a crash blocking the slow lane around railroad avenue. it's a deadly crash investigation. that's a slow spot for the north bay, and we will show you how things are going with the

congestion in the east bay, coming up. good thursday morning to you. the s&p 500 set another record on wednesday. nvidia, to understand what is going on in the valley with ai, watch nvidia. the chipmaker's overall value, it's market capitalization is almost as big as amazon. that's huge. now this company, vista outdoors, is the parent company of camelback and it's moving camelback's headquarters out of the bay area. and plenty farm something a vertical farming startup and it has a research center in south san francisco, but it says it will shut that down and move some of those operations to virginia, and that will involve layoffs. there's a big hearing in washington today over drug prices. it's the senate health committee, and that's the one senator bernie sanders sits on. cutting prices for consumers has been one of his biggest goals as senator. the fundamental question that senators, and for that matter,

while we are still getting light rain further to the north, and that will be dropping in today. as we look at what to expect in brentwood, in the mid-40s and still at 9:00, it's a cold start. as we go throughout the day, our temperatures head for the low 50s. overall we are keeping those jackets on, and it will be sunny for most of the day, and at 4:00 to 5:00, we will see the clouds bubbling up and there will be scattered rain, hit or miss activity for the evening or commute, and tapering off later on tonight. after that, we're done. we're all dry for the weekend. our temperatures will stay cool. we are only headed up to 57 for oakland and san mateo. concord today hitting a high of 55 degrees. about the same in morgan hill and los gatos. 57 today in lovato. tomorrow our mornings will be chilly, starting out in the upper 30s. we will see that at least into sunday morning.

our highs head for the low 60s, so it will once again be cool throughout the weekend. once again, not seeing any major storms coming our way. we will have a chance to let all that rain we had soak into the ground as we are going to get a chance to chill out for a little bit. mike, you are checking out three major backups? >> yeah, the first one is no surprise. we predict this one every day, the bay bridge toll plaza. it's there and keeping the span moving smoothly. the rest of the east bay and north bay looking standard until these two more spots. novato, jamming up towards highway 37. there's a car on fire and they had to close all the lanes for a short period of time, and now only one lane with the slow lane blocked there. and then a deadly crash, so watch southbound 101. only one lane blocked at this point but traffic is jamming up

a very good morning to you. 6:30 right now. thanks for starting your day with us. i am laura garcia. i am marcus washington. first, more than 12,000 customers still without power this morning. here's a live look for you at pg&e's outage map. almost all the power has been restored to san francisco and the east bay, and the peninsula has 1,500 customers without the power, and the north bay about 8,000 without power, and about 3,000 in the east bay. >> meteorologist, kari hall, joins us now with a look at what we are looking like today. >> we are starting out with a chance of rain in the forecast. it's clear for now. temperatures are dropping, so we do have a cold start to our morning all around the bay area. also a coastal flood advisory will be in effect as we get the king tides building up over the next several days. we will have more cold mornings

ahead with the weekend staying dry. with those spots out of power, it's freezing outside. in santa rosa, 32 degrees. even san francisco is in the 30s this morning. as we go into today we will start to see the rain chances building up go into the evening commute, but it will be very hit or miss. we will talk about the weekend coming up in a few minutes. >> sounds good. thank you, kari. it's 6:31 right now. to breaking news, an update out of southern california this morning. the bodies of five missing marines have been found after their helicopter crashed near san diego. it was reported missing after leaving an air force base in nevada where they were conducting a training flight. the helicopter last pinged in east san diego county, and crews found the helicopter yesterday morning. the helicopter seemed to have crash landed. president biden just offered a

statement of condolences to the families of the marines. and scott mcgrew, the 14th amendment says those that lead or insight an insurgency cannot hold office? >> there are so many things, though, marcus, for the court to unpack today. among the things to think about, the constitution says a former office holder who engages in insurgency cannot hold further office. it lists some of the offices but not the presidency. that's confusing. did the writers of the 14th amendment intend to include or exclude the president. in colorado, a court determined trump did lead an insurgency. the secretary of state in maine

came up with the same conclusion, different state and different rules on how that is decided, and both decisions are on hold pending the supreme court's ruling. the arguments are today, key point, the supreme court is not ruling on whether trump led an insurrection, the supreme court doesn't decide things like guilt or innocent. a court in colorado already ruled trump incited an insurrection. the court will decide who they are talking about and how to decide what an insurrection is. it says don't do that, and it's the same way you have to be 35 to run for president, it just says to be 35. if the supreme court says trump could be disqualified from the ballot, people will say they are

getting in the way of the democracy, so the betting move is that the court will find a way to keep trump on the ballot, and they are going to have to look at the 14th amendment that says no person that insights an insurgency shall not hold office. the plaintiffs that brought the case to keep trump off the ballot are republicans. the arguments take place today, and in a few minutes the court will announce its decision at a later date, but, laura, it will be soon. >> thank you for the latest. we will talk about the great migration to las vegas. it's now taking shape.

else you can imagine. >> what happens, the historical society of las vegas says take the sign and preserve it for us? >> we are the historical society of las vegas. we work with the property owners to collect the signs, bring them here, preserve them, restore them, and maintain them. it's an ongoing process. we welcome about 200,000 visitors a year that come through and learn about las vegas through the signage they see. >> this is fascinating. thank you to the director of the neon sign museum. and there's the local connection to the super bowl, but not only is it epic to the 49ers fans and team itself, but some young ladies from morgan hill, they are here in las vegas and will be dancing at the half-time show. they are from a group called the dance hall. the dancers will be onstage at half-time, and it's a half-time show with usher, and the young ladies say they sent their

audition tape at the end of december and found out at the end of january they were going to the super bowl. can't say much about the half-time performance, only that it's a must see. >> so exciting, and i get to do it with my friends. so exciting for me. >> every time i step on that field i am overwhelmed and it's crazy. i'm just excited. >> meanwhile, the fans are getting to show off their skills at the fan zone which opened yesterday afternoon at the mandalay convention center. a lot of excitement as we build up to sunday's big game. big news here at the neon sign museum, the commissioner of football, roger goodell will be here, and this is where they are giving out the local grants to non-profits here, so a lot of things happening at the neon sign museum, and it's just off the strip and you can find a lot of american history, if you will. >> that's cool.

report on that coming up. a story you will only see on nbc bay area, a car thieve accused of doing it again. >> kris sanchez has more on why this woman was out on the streets? >> that's the question the latest victims in vallejo want to know. that suspect just two weeks ago was seen ditching a stolen chp cruiser and running off. now this morning, the 27-year-old vanessa guerrero is under arrest and remains in custody. that's guerrero in that security video from a vallejo home that was robbed, and the husband and wife are in a bit of shock because that suspect is known in that neighborhood. >> did she come back to target anybody on the street because she left the car here? does she know somebody on the street? >> it's crazy to wake up to

that. it was really unexpected. started feeling violated. >> one of the couple's stolen cars was found in san francisco and was connected to guerrero, who you see in this video from two weeks before. this was january 26th, and the video shows the suspect running from a parked chp car, and that chp car had been stolen. she was able to get into the driver's seat as she was being questioned about a different stolen vehicle. she's now booked in the san francisco county jail, and when we find out if she will be judged or released, we will report that to you. >> thank you. we are six months away from the 2024 olympics in paris, and we are getting a look at the world's best prices athletes will be vying for. nbc news got an up close look at the gold, silver and bronze

this morning, and even getting your dog out for a walk -- >> my dog is growing from all the storms. >> we will have a break from the rain. it will be chilly out there, and we are watching some of the coastal areas, some of the low-lying areas in the bay for king tides that will continue over the next several days. the park and ride, you will have issues with flooding this morning and the next several days. let's check on the rainfall. we have had over 24 inches of rainfall for santa rosa, and that's a surplus. we are catching up in concord. we are above what we typically see for san josé and san francisco and the north bay. the storm moved off to the south and it's clearing around vegas as well, and we are watching one last push of showers moving from

northern california along the coastline that will be coming in. temperatures for the day staying chilly, and we headed up to 55 in los gatos. much of the east bay in the low to mid-50s. we will see a high of 54 in redwood city. 57 downtown san francisco. 56 -- or 55 degrees in sonoma this afternoon. there will once again be one last wave of showers developing during the evening commute in parts of the north bay and along the coastline, but really anywhere we can see that popping up and winding down later this evening, and then that's it. we are back to the sunshine and dry weather for the weekend. it will be cold in the mornings but at least we will have a nice recovery for the afternoon with highs in the low 60s. it gradually warms up through the middle of next week. mike, you have been watching that crash. what is the update? >> we got an update that the coroner was called a short time ago, and when the coroner heads

county. crews searched into tuesday night finding the helicopter yesterday morning. investigators now say that the helicopter seemed to have crash landed. president joe biden just issuing a statement offering condolences to the families of the marines. a live look at the supreme court building in washington where justices today will hear arguments in a landmark case to determine if former president donald trump can run for re-election. the case surrounds colorado's decision to keep trump off its primary ballot citing his role in the january 6th capitol insurrection. the "today" show will have more coverage coming up in minutes. more than 12,000 customers still without power this morning. here's a live look at the pg&e outage map.

almost all power restored to san francisco and the east bay. the peninsula has about 1,500 customers without power, and the north bay with 8,000. it's tough for people without power. temperatures are in the 30s. we will see the highs in the mid-50s for this afternoon, and we will be back down to the 30s again tonight. we will have a slight chance of rain today and we will be tracking that going into this afternoon. a quick check of the san mateo bridge. don't want to leave you hanging. everything is moving smoothly across the span after i saw flashing lights. san josé looking good, 87 is where we are seeing slowing around capital expressway. the 49ers' legend, brent jones joins us live to talking about what the niners need to do
