right now at 11:00, how in the world did he pull it off? breaking news on the peninsula. investigators tell us someone stole the plane from the palo alto airport, flew around, before landing on a bay area beach and running off. this is a wild story. jocelyn moran joins us live from palo alto tonight. we did learn an arrest has been made, yes? >> reporter: he is a 50-year- old man from miami, florida. how he managed to take a plane from here and landed on a beach? that's what authorities are trying to wrap their heads around here tonight, the san mateo county sheriff's office investigating out a man stole this red and white plane and

landed it on poplar beach and half moon bay. knows it down. it will remain there while crews work out how to remove it . >> this is a first for me. >> reporter: ryan gross was walking on the beach with her dad and dogs when she noticed the plane flying very low. >> that it came back around down the beach, then landed, and it looked like the nose plunked into the sand. then he ran out of gas and walked off. >> reporter: the man, they detained him near the beach a little while later. the plane was stolen from the palo alto airport. >> i don't know who this person is, but he managed to steal an airplane and land it on a beach. >> reporter: still many unanswered questions tonight. the big one, being how and why .

thankfully, no one was hurt. that is the good news here. >> that is a nutty story. thank you very much, jocelyn. a runaway muni bus jumped the curb onto a sidewalk in the daly city street, and inside, a handful of jostled passengers. one of them is telling us he and others jumped out of the moving bus to safety. gia vang is in daly city with those intense moments you >> reporter: wait for the moment it happened. s&m muni bus lands on a median and in the middle of the street, remarkably missing oncoming cars. this happened just before 4:00 p.m. passengers, including a person with a walker and bus driver emerge. what you don't hear? >> i saw people were starting to jump out of the bus, so i jumped to.

>> reporter: out of the moving coach, passenger nelson ramirez said he hopped onto mission street. >> when i got on the bus, i saw the bus driver. >> reporter: than the 14-year- old said he and others noticed the bus begin to move, and soon nearby neighbors noticed the crash. >> it was very weird. i did not know that could happen. >> reporter: this is the track the bus took him and you see it took down this auto sign and other city signs along with it. >> it was scary, because when i jumped, he sprained his wrist. >> reporter: one other person was taken to the hospital at the scene, but it's unclear the condition. finally, it was towed away from the tricky spot just before 8:00 p.m.

sfmta said we are investigating this matter and can't comment further. daly city police is currently handling this until the investigation is complete. a show of support in stanford for students calling for a cease-fire in gaza. the students said they have been staking a peaceful sit in for more than 100 days now, but the group received a letter from the university today telling them they will no longer be able to camp overnight at the university. in the letter, university city leaders say they are concerned about the health and safety of the students on campus and gave the protesters until 8:00 tonight to leave the area or be cited for trespassing get this video was taken after the deadline had already passed. a number of people were still out there. one student tells us she is surprised by the school's decision. >> i was shocked because there was no warning that anything like this was coming. there was no ongoing issues. there was no reason.

>> more than 200 people attended tonight's demonstration, and at last check, no action has been taken by the university. defending his memory. best buy is pushing back on that special counsel's handling of the classified documents. the report said the resident will face charges, but it alleges the president suffers from memory loss. >> strange commentary. they don't know what they are talking about. it has no place in this report. bottom line is the matter is now closed. >> president biden, addressing the nation tonight, saying the report says part of the reason the president wasn't prosecuted is because he could portray himself as an elderly man with morememory with sympathy from the jury. it also alleges he had be difficult to remember when his term as vice president ended as

well as the timing of his son beau's death. >> there is some attention paid to the language and the report of my recollection of the events, and its reference that i don't remember when my son died. how the hell dare he raise that . >> the special counsel also says there were distinctions between the case between president biden and the pending case against former president donald trump regarding his handling of classified documents. it goes onto say, quote, unlike the evidence involving mr. biden, the allegations set forth in the indictment of mr. trump, if proven, with present serious aggravated fax. pg&e crews are still working to get power back as of 5:00 this evening, there are about 8500 customers without power he had more than half are in the north bay at 6500. some are going on five days without electricity. pg&e says customers who experienced outages for 48 hours or more will receive some credit on upcoming bills. are you ready?

the excitement is under way. a big game, three days away. super bowl sunday, almost here. it was all the glitz and glamour and some honors, kind of the oscars for football. the award show highlights the nfl's best players. raj mathai is leading our red carpet coverage. what a night. >> reporter: it was. don't say anything. i am still on the red carpet. i'm not sure if i will leave tonight . i love this place. it was really fun. you just had all the vips here, all the best players around the nfl, the notable alumni, a lot of vips who aren't part of football at all. i'll get out of the way. they walked down the red carpet about 100 yards. there were hundreds of cameras, and they walked where i am standing, then into the theater where all the action happened. we had a surprise here, a 49 and shut up you christian mccaffrey, he took center stage

and for good reason. he won the offensive player of the year. this dude always looks sharp. usually the guys playing in the super bowl, so in this case, the 49ers and chiefs don't come to the show, but coach shanahan let him go for quick 15 minutes. the former stanford star, having a breakout season and we watched it, and he thanked his loved ones. >> i want to thank my family, fiancee. you know how much i love you. your support means everything to me. all the sacrifices you make for me, it is not easy and doesn't go unseen, and i'm not. without you, guys, so thank you. >> reporter: very sweet. they announced the new class of the nfl hall of fame, the pro football hall of fame. pretty dramatic interest. 49ers linebacker patrick willis is in . he spent his entire eight-year career in san francisco. what an incredible life journey. he grew up in poverty taking care of his younger siblings, picked cotton as the kid. he is now going to the hall of

just in tonight, a plea for help from union city police. they are looking for leah beno gomez. she was seen around 4:00 this afternoon at senior chavez middle school. she's about 140 pounds with brown hair, brown eyes. if you have any information, you are asked to call union city police. hundreds of female prison guards have been fighting a lengthy legal battle against the california prison system. >> they say they were denied reasonable accommodations to go on lighter duties without the emotions or pay cut while they were pregnant. investigative reporter hilda gutierrez tells us more. >> they claim they suffered miscarriages and lost wages due

to a pregnancy policy that changed. there lengthy legal fight might student soon come to an end. >> i've had punches thrown across my face. i have been hit. i have been kicked, stuffed or not me. i've had feces thrown at me. transit as a correctional officer at the california medical facility in vacaville, liam mcallen said she expect did those incidents, but not after she became pregnant. >> i knew i was going to continue have to work it i'd never seen anybody pregnant working there, or they were in payroll. >> reporter: that was 2016. a year prior, her employer, the california department of corrections and rehabilitation had quietly replaced the policy to provide light-duty accommodation to pregnant officers.

that is for reasons it refuses to explain. >> there is no accommodation, no putting you anywhere. you would have to basically figure out a way to go hide yourself. >> reporter: how did that make you feel? >> awful, absolutely terrible. >> reporter: she said she continued working 16 hour shifts while carrying a support belt around her waist. >> i would have inmates say what are you doing? why are you still working on the line? >> this was mckeown's second pregnancy but her first under the new policy she said she and her husband wanted a large family, and in 2018 she was pregnant again when she took part in an emergency cell entry, where she had to remove the heavy locker. >> i moved it, and instantly i felt pain in my back, which i thought i tweaked my back, but i ended up miscarrying. >> reporter: mckeown is one of nearly 300 people correctional officers suing the state department for discrimination,

retaliation, and denial of pregnancy disability rights. >> it is allotted about the quality of women in the workplace. >> reporter: arnold peter is mckeown's attorney. he said cdc violated california law, citing most prison systems and law- enforcement agencies provide accommodations for pregnant law officers. >> we are asking for treatment for any other woman in the state of telephone it would be entitled to. transit since 2017 between 15% to 16% of correctional officers have been women. cdc guards website show the first female correctional officers were hired in the 1970s and claim to currently hire women at a higher rate than the national average. >> i worked in the mental health benefit and have my entire career there. >> reporter: she is also a

correctional officer. she said she was 24 weeks pregnant when she was asked to do an emergency cell entry. >> i refused and went home. i emailed my doctor, like, as soon as i got out to the parking lot and let him know what happened, and he took me off of work and put me on disability that same day. >> reporter: glaude said she only received partial pay. multiple plaintiffs say they suffered miscarriages. >> it is just sad. i mean, i got to bring my baby home, but not everybody did. transit the state civil rights department responsible for enforcing workers discrimination laws also filed its own lawsuit. >> reporter: seeking a return to the pre-2015 pregnancy policy, facing lawsuits in a

bill to address the issue in 2020, they reverted to the pre- 2015 policy but not before mckeown suffered another incident for the fourth time. >> he fought us, broke the threshold, kicked, punched, did everything he could. >> reporter: her baby survived, but she hurt her back and could not work for three years. the california department of corrections and rehabilitation refused to to us, but in an email told us the settlement in this class action lawsuit is in the works, and the proposed settlement would provide significant benefits for the settlement class and acknowledges that the underlying dispute the policies have ended. >> they all understand they signed up to undertake a very dangerous job. that was their decision. they are adults. they appreciate that. however, they did not sign up

the other big change happening is high-pressure. we have not seen a pattern like this in months get it will start up a dry trend, which i know is much welcome for a lot of you as that storm track moves off to the north. we'll also get a chance of fog let me show you more details in that microclimate forecast. let's get a closer view of the fog 7:00 in the morning. i do think it will be patchy as you're on that commute tomorrow and also expect some sunshine to mix in. not too bad here and we'll get some high clouds moving across by 1:00 p.m., then another window of sunshine around 3:00. otherwise, let's get to the chill. we're going even colder tomorrow morning with the frost advisory here across our inland valleys, down to 38 for the south a, 36 in the tri-valley. more of those mid-30s for the north bay ps san francisco, 42, and by the east bay, delta 38 . have to heaviest jacket out tomorrow . we'll warm up for the afternoon, but not a whole bunch, and temperatures look the same across the microclimates. 58 in santa rosa, 57 martinez, and those upper 50s to the

south bay. we're dry tomorrow and dry right through this weekend. i know there's a lot of stuff happening this weekend. the top two events, the first one i want to get to is the lunar new year celebration in san francisco's chinatown get this is saturday, 12:30 to 2:00, temps in the 50s. of course, watch parties on sunday. weather forecast, low 60s here in partly cloudy for most of the bay, but near the coast and off to san francisco, we could get into a partly sunny to mostly cloudy sky, but i don't think that will stop any watch parties from happening get it is a much nicer forecast over the past few weeks. in the seventh day forecast, we'll stay dry all the way through next thursday, but take note as we head into the 17th and the 20th. it looks like we could get into a much active weather pattern, a couple of storms that could bring us a couple inches of rain. we'll get more details there. let's just focus on the weekend. >> we are focused. still ahead,

governor newsom is deploying legal help to boost prosecutions in alameda county. he is partnering with pamela price from the department of justice and national guard. the goal is to increase the capacity to investigate and prosecute more suspects accused of violent crimes. retail theft and auto burglaries as well. partnerships include the plate 120 chp officers to the crime. as south bay doing up donut shop owner is accused of making and selling drugs from his store. it happened on yum yum donuts. they said the owner was arrested for selling a new narcotic called in cocaine, a

mixture of methamphetamine, cocaine, and opioid mixed with the strawberry powder. the uncovered illegal narcotics and a large amount of cash along with guns and ammo. staff shook off that bad night and got back into it, while the 49ers got a rude awakening thismorning.

welcome back. i'm anthony flores in henderson, nevada. the 49ers are done speaking to the media until after super sunday. today, the team held their final press conferences, and this was an eventful day that began bright and early at 6:00 a.m. >> i've never seen so many faces this morning as i did today. trend of the sean gibson said he had no clue what was happening when the fire alarm went off early in the team

hotel to the 49ers safety and his teammates went out side their rooms. hotel staff assured the players it was a false alarm. >> reporter: he said the alarm was blaring for about 15 minutes, but the impact lasted well past her afternoon practice. >> the bodies a little tired, but anyone who got sleep, shout out to them. >> i did not realize how big a deal it was until i met them and showed the video. no one wants to get up at 6:00 and go outside when they have meetings till late, but it is what it is. >> reporter: the 49ers have plenty of time to recharge the battery between now and super sunday . rest could go a long way in helping the niners play their best the best patrick mahomes and the chiefs. >> things could be a really tight game. we have two really good teams, and we'll see how it unfolds, but we will see how our chances are. warriors were in indianapolis tonight finish
