good morning. it is saturday, february 10th. 7:00 as we take a live look outside. a beautiful morning in santana row. what a beautiful place to start the day, and if you're around in four hours from now, our mike inouye will be emceeing the lunar new year celebrations right there. thank you for starting your weekend with us. oh, my goodness! look at sunrise behind me. cinthia pimentel has a looking a the forecast. a good one. >> all of that sunshine behind you a preview what's in store today. we have to get through this dhily morning once again. start with 42 in san jose. even colder, though, making our sbi the trivaefl. 35 in dublin. 38 livermore and 30s and 40s up in the north bay. 37 in santa rosa. dealing with a little areas of patchy fog up there in the north bay and down through the santa

clara valley. otherwise, not too bad. talking what's going on at the surface. coastal flood advisory through 1:00 this afternoon. minor flooding in the area along the bay shore you see highlighted in green. otherwise, i mentioned, we have a lot of sunshine on the way. keep it nice and sunny for our super bowl sunday plans. talk about that and also when rain returns in that extended forecast. back to you. >> rain? all right, cinthia. thanks. as mentioned, under a coastal flood advisory until 1:00 this afternoon. that means scenes like this. potential for high tides and flooding and four people aboard this fishing boat in the north bay are lucky to be safe. they had to be rescued in the rough waters. their boat ran aground south of bodega dune beach just before midnight. chp was able to pull off a rescue from the shore. timing the waves as they battered the 50-foot boat. >> the vessel in the surf, precarious. flops back and forth in the

surf. so that the critical piece of tonight was getting the timing of the sequence right. chaim to disembark the vessel, time with wave sets and get it just right. >> able to pull out the people just before 2:00 this morning. later they'll remove the boat without any environmental impact. to another developing story. the shelter in place now lifted as uc-berkeley. one man is under arrest. this after frightening moments of gunfire sending students running. we have video that shows some of that chaos as shelter in place order went into effect last night. this happened just before 9:00 as police swarmed sproul plaza. >> i saw the suspect, i guess, reach, like, to his parked motorcycle, i think. and i wasn't sure if he, like, pulled anything out, but i wasn't directly in line of sight

but other students said he pulled out a gun and so we all started running. >> i was scared. trying to get out fast as possible before anything escalating. >> frightening. the suspect was detained shortly after the shots were fired. and the shelter in place cleared about an hour later, around 10:00. we are counting down to the kickoff of the super bowl tomorrow. this is a live look at allegiant stadium in las vegas where the 49ers and the kansas city chiefs will face off tomorrow. fans decked out in red and gold have been swarming the strip. our bay area airports were flooded with faithful boarding planes anxious to join that party in vegas cheering on the nypors. let's just get to the game. it's tomorrow. the 49ers and as for buzz here in vegas, niners fans coming in by the planeload. you can feel them taking over the city. >> all: let's go niners! >> reporter: the familiar chant "let's go niners" was inside the arya hotel last night and then outside on the strip, a lot more red and gold. just saw a lot of smiles, a lot of people taking selfies really just a special journey for the 49er faithful. >> got here today and checking it out getting ready for the big day. >> got a good italian dinner planned, and on to clubbing. [ laughter ] >> reporter: maybe that guy's still clubbing. love the energy. as for the 49ers, no clubs, no parties. no interviews, no family. nothing. it's just practice and prep now. deebo samuel guys practicing in

hour. he has a look at everything happening in sin city this weekend. raj wasn't able to show just yet. turn back to local news. a man under arrest for stealing a small airplane from a bay area airport, and the question now is, why he did it. a 50-year-old man from florida stole the single-engine plane from the palo alto airport earlier this week and landed it on the beach in half moon bay and left it there. arrested a short time later. pilots who keep their aircraft at that airport tell us they were shocked to hear about the crime. >> any kearns about security here at palo alto airport? >> no, no. i'm not concerned about that or frankly at any airport. >> why is that? >> i guess for airports like these that aren't kind of the major airports, the people that are here are mainly pilots and

relatively trustworthy. >> the city of palo alto as well as county agencies are now investigating. the faa and ntsb are not involved because the plane didn't crash. lunar new year celebrations begin today across the bay area. now city leaders in san francisco are warning about a scam that's targeting the vulnerable and elderly in the chinese community. >> those who may be willing to try to do anything to receive blessings, receive good luck at a time of the year especially now where we are talking so much about generosity and goodwill. >> city leaders say there's been an uptick in so-called blessing scams. in two recent cases scammers convinced their victims to give jewelry and cash to a ceremony warding off evil spirits and then stole everything. the victims lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in valuables. at 7:10 saturday morning

an iconic shop along highway 101 forced to close after nearly 40 years in business. the garlic shop in gilroy given just days to pack up and move out. the owners tell us the santa clara vta acquired their property under eminent domain. the government's power to take private property to convert it for public use. the garlic shop is at a busy intersection where highway 101 and state route 25 meet. they're building a new intersection there. >> been here 39 years. alex 62, i'm 63. planning to retire in a few years and now basically have to start all over again.

nice and mild going into the south bay and for las vegas maybe lucky enough hitting the road today. pack extra layers, because temperatures only in the 50s. cool there in vegas, and overnight lows in the 30s. you have been warned. just going to keep our eyes out for the game tomorrow afternoon. take it out ahead and look into next weekend. going to be building a little high pressure. notice that the system stays away from the bay area going through the middle of the week. it isn't until we get into next weekend we develop a few active systems that could arrive as soon as friday morning in the north bay and starting to trickle down into parts of the east day, south bay and rest of the bay area. and entire state. notice how it drenches california even fresh snow up into the sierra going on into next weekend. then looking at another system following that behind. it is valentine's middle of the weekend. planning to head into next weekend. make sure you can keep rain in those forecasts for those weekend plans.

welcome back. an update to the story of a south san francisco man on a mission to spread kindness. garvin thomas is here with his story to spread even more kindness in this morning's "bay area proud". >> reporter: they say kindness is its own reward. but does it have to be the only reward? >> i have to send over the details to the winner. >> reporter: feeling nothing wrong with adding a little something extra to the pot. >> pays in this case. you know? >> reporter: now, if there's such a thing as an expert in kindness brian would qualify. two years ago vowed to do 30 acts of kindness before his 30th birthday launched him into the spotlight. "people" magazine followed one of the kindest people in america. his ultimate goal not pay attention to himself but inspire others to follow. last year when this 10-year-old did just that, vowed to do ten acts to celebrate his birthday.

from inside allegiant. other fans we spoke to are going to vegas for the experience outside of the stadium. all hoping -- for the quest for six? i don't want to jinx things so not say the rest of that sentence. proper watch parties packed with fans in niners swag. we went to affordable treasurerers in los gatos benefitting from the last-minute rush. over the last week had about 1,000 people come in for party decorations, some from as far as los santos. they expect to see more people today and tomorrow. >> a wonderful bump. party business is not super fast in january. kind of a slow month. so -- super bowl, though, a nice little boost but when the niners are in the super bowl it's a very nice boost. >> as they have been all season long, our teammates at nbc sports bay area have you coved. be sure to tune in to niners pre anosame live. the teamil bring you complete

new charges have been filed in the killing of a security guard who was shot while protecting a local news crew in oakland. you may recall, kevin nashita died two years ago during an attempted robbery. the district attorney, pamela price announced new charges yesterday. the three men arrested are now charged with murder along with additional gun and gang enhancement. in addition, announced the man responsible for actually killing the officer is leronne. one of the other suspects was previously charged as the gunman. if convicted on all charges the three men face anywhere between 78 years to life in prison. a south bay doughnut shop owner accused of making and selling drugs right out of his store. the daily special, police say a

new drug cocktail, accused of making. "today in the bay's" reporter tells us more. >> reporter: sann jose police announcing arrest over a new narcotic called pink cocaine. this man arrested accused of making and selling the narcotic out of his business at the 400 block of this road. police didn't name the business. property records confirm he is the owner of yum yum donuts at that location. >> commonly known at 2c or pink cancer. the metro unit detectives executed search warrants at the suspect's residence and business. >> reporter: he was arrested last month, but police announced it this week saying they recovered illegal narcotics and a large amount of cash along with a gun and ammo. yum yum donuts customers surprised to hear about the allegations. >> i think it's crazy, personally, because i always

staying dry and see more sunshine rolling in to the picture of systems here. staying away from the bay area. not until early friday morning that we start to see a few rain showers moving in through parts of the north bay. before it really starts to ramp up and we get active systems developing here into next weekend. so we do have mardi gras this week. valentine's day. all of those events and if you are planning forward into next weekend just make sure that you keep rain in the forecast there and i took this one out into next sunday. again, those active systems lining up one after the other. ten day estimates of rain. how much are we talking about here? could paint a picture between one to two inches of rain especially up in the north bay and already doused with rainfall over the last couple days. overall state dry in inland valleys. 60s. chilly mornings ahead. next weekend we start to look for umbrellas and hunker down.

allegiant stadium on sunday. 49ers take on the kansas city chiefs super bowl lviii. i am in lvs. both teams held final practices before the big game. each team held three practices since arriving in las vegas. really the game plan was put in

place last week in santa clara. niners have a final walk-through at unlv on saturday. this game is a rematch of super bowl liv won by the chiefs. head coach kyle shanahan says the past has no impact on this sunday. >> i don't any last super bowl has anything to do with this game. just like last week doesn't have flig to do with this game. we remember the games. people the rest of their lives should remember that game. who won that game. that's all that matters. >> reporter: the chiefs continue their press at headquarters of the raiders. defending super bowl champs aiming for their third title in five seasons. all that winning turned some nfl fans against the chiefs. >> win a lot. causes you to be a villain. i'm okay with it. end of the day enjoy playing the game and try to win as much as possible. >> reporter: on the injury front, all 49ers stars are healthy and ready to go on super sunday. both teams remain in their same hotels.
