helicopter already. they're at a hospital in tel aviv. they have been reunited with their family. i think we actually have those first pictures. during the overnight rescue health officials say dozens of palestinians were killed in a heavy wave of israeli air strikes in rafah. this comes as prime minister netanyahu continues to threaten an incursion into rafah. that is a move that international organizations and the u.s. have strongly warned against. now also, this morning, savannah, deal talks appear to be closing in. one senior administration official telling nbc news that a new deal is, quote, pretty much there, but gaps remain. savannah? >> if the deal is imminent, does any of what happened overnight impact negotiations? >> reporter: absolutely. i think what we're trying to figure out in the next couple of days is how big, how significant those gaps may be. we know president biden spoke with prime minister netanyahu overnight. we also have new reporting that

biden has been pretty critical of netanyahu privately, saying netanyahu wants the war to drag on so that he can remain in power. according to three people in at least three instances, biden has even called the israeli prime minister a, quote, a-hole. but the u.s. has not changed their policy or changed their military funding. towards israel. savannah sf? >> molly hunter in jerusalem, thank you very much. defense secretary lloyd austin hospitalized and admitted to a critical care unit a month after a health scare at the white house. that he kept hidden. gabe gutierrez has more. >> reporter: hoda, good morning. it's not clear how long the defense secretary will remain hospitalized. but one notable change from last time, the pentagon alerted the white house immediately. this morning, defense secretary lloyd austin in critical care, hospitalized at walter reed again yesterday. this time for symptoms of a bladder issue. according to the pentagon.

overnight, doctors saying that austin was then admitted to the critical care unit for supportive care and close monitoring. last month the defense secretary faced scrutiny for not telling the white house he underwent surgery for prostate cancer until days later. >> we did not handle this right. i did not handle this right. >> reporter: now the pentagon announcing the stay publicly saying he's transferring his duties to his deputy, concern for austin coming as president biden is on defense after that special counsel report saying he had memory issues. a new poll finds most americans believe both president biden and republican front runner donald trump are too old for another term. though he continued to attack biden over the weekend, trump himself is now under fire after a wild weekend rally where the former president encouraged russia to attack u.s. allies if they don't pay their dues in nato. >> i would encourage them to do whatever the hell they want. you've got to pay. >> his opponent nikki haley quickly responding.

morgan chesky has details. >> reporter: a truly terrifying ordeal here inside houston's lakewood church where pastor says they serve 45,000 people each and every week. this happened before their spanish when witnesses say a woman walked inside armed with a rifle and opened fire. this morning two off duty officers are credited in taking her down after a shooting that has left this church community shaken to its core. a sunday service interrupted by a terrifying sound in a house of worship. gunfire blasting through lakewood church's spanish service. the pastor pausing, only to hear more shots ringing. the chaotic scene unfolding after police say an unidentified woman armed with a rifle and we aring a trench coat walked inside and started firing. a young boy in critical condition. another church goer shot in the leg. two off duty officers are credited with fatally shooting

9:00 central. we also have 10 million people at risk for wind gusts of 60 miles an hour, tornadoes possible, damaging hail. now, this system will also cause flood alerts for 17 million folks from alabama, mississippi on into the carolinas. we have 49 million people under winter weather alerts. we have a winter storm warning for good portions of new england into the northeast. winter storm watches for new york city, and winter storm advisories as you get into the mississippi river valley. severe storms today target the southeast. that rain will extend into the mid-atlantic. colder air starts to filter in. morning snow through the northeast into new england and strong on shore winds. here is what we're looking at. as far as the rainfall to the southeast could be some flooding, up to four inches down through that section. but we're looking at maybe 12 inches of snow in parts of the northeast and new england. as we zoom in a bit, boston could see up to a foot. hartford, eight to 12 inches, here in new york city, three to five.

camino real where there's some relief for south bay drivers. this is in los altos, about an hour ago, the eastbound lanes reopened. the road was closed ever since a fire near that site on christmas day. the bike lane and sidewalk will remain shut down. the fire tore through a strip mall that has since been demolished. no one was injured and firefighters have not revealed if they know what caused the fire. san francisco police are trying to get to the bottom of what's now a viral moment in the midst of san francisco's lunar new year celebrations. police are investigating who is responsible for setting a driverless car on fire after breaking its window, throwing fireworks inside. this happened on jackson street around 9:00 saturday night. waymo says in part that the vehicle was not transporting any riders and no one was hurt. let's get a look at that forecast for this monday morning. another cold start. >> it's cold and foggy and we've seen the worst of that fog in parts of the north bay. santa rosa now seeing zero
