>> in a moment, we're going to talk to one of the paradegoers who sprang into action. but first let's talk to jesse kirsch who was covering the parade when the shots rang out. hey, jesse, good morning. >> reporter: hoda, good morning. we were here watching people starting to trickle out as the rally had ended. then we noticed that some people were running away from the stage area as others, who appeared to be police officers, were rushing in. and at that point, we knew something appeared to have gone terribly wrong here. according to three law enforcement officials briefed on the case, this does not appear to be terrorism related at this point. but we still do not know why, what started out as a giant party, turned into something that was so violent. it only took moments for a city full of super bowl joy to be overcome with grief.

wrong way and there was another gentlemen saying, you know, just screaming out of the top of his lungs, you know, get this guy, tackle him and i heard him and i really wasn't for sure until he came running and i had a perfect angle to do what i did, and i did what i did, you know i took him down. and as i took him down, i seen -- i seen the weapon, the gun fall to the ground, so when i hit him, whether i hit it out of his hand or it fell out of his jacket, because he was wearing a big, bulky jacket, i seen it, when i was taking him down, i seen the weapon fall to the ground so i knew right then and there, like, okay, he's got one weapon, but this one's on the ground he may have another one, i need to take him to the ground and

keep him on the ground is what i did. >> so we don't know -- you saw him running against the grain, which was suspicious someone else tackled first, you came on to help in that effort did you get a good look at this person's face? did they say anything? >> i did not when i took him down, i took him down -- i tackled him from the back but when i took him down to the ground, his hood went over his head, so he was face down the whole time i had him face down the whole time with me on top of him and then another good samaritan helped me keep him to the ground so i did not get a good look at him at all >> so paul, you were on him until the police came. did the police take him away, did they arrest him? >> yes it was after -- i don't know how
