to honor the three emergency wor wor workers killed in the line of duty. >> at gun point during that barricade situation, the subject opened fire on the officers in the home. and officers were killed by the gunman during the response. one other officer was injured and shot as well and has suffered non-life-threatening injuries but is in the process of being treated. at approximately 8:00 a.m., the subject was reported to be deceased in the home and later that morning those other children and family minimums were able to escape from the home. >> tv crews getting these

pictures of an s.w.a.t. vehicle riddled with bullet holes. the youngest of the children they helped save was only 2 years old. we also have new information this morning about a shooting in colorado as well. police have identified the two victims who were found shot inside a dorm room in colorado springs. that search continues for their killer. nbc's george solis is following that investigation. >> reporter: a double murder mystery that has paralyzed a college campus in colorado. authorities revealing the identities of the two people shot in a dorm room as a 26-year-old and a 24-year-old, both from colorado. one was a student. one was not. authorities not revealing any details about a suspect or motive. the community is on edge. >> we don't really know if they're still out there or if they're still on campus, if

they're a student, or someone who just came onto campus. so it's kind of terrifying. >> reporter: police say on friday they responded tocalls of shots fired at the university of could corklorado, colorado s. >> it's scary, because we didn't know, like, if they even have a suspect in custody, they know who the suspect is, if, we don't know anything. >> reporter: authorities ruling out a murder suicide, saying that they are intentionally restricting the amount of information made public and add the shooting appears to be an isolated incident between people who knew each other. >> george solis with that report. the sudden death of alexei navalny has sent shock waves around the world. he died in prison after russian authorities say he collapsed after feeling unwell after a walk. while the details of his death

still remain murky, western countries remain unified in placing the blame on president putin. what's the latest in what we know on how this all happened? >> reporter: good morning, richard. according to an independent newspaper, a paramedic said that he had bruising around the body, which could have been caused by people holding him down during a seizure. he also said he had bruises on his chest, which could have been caused by cpr. he thinks he died of cardiac arrest. he doesn't floknow what caused . he also says moscow order them to perform an autopsy. now nbc news doesn't have independent confirmation of that information. as per the officials, navalny's mother was told he died of sudden death syndrome, which is

a very rare thing. people around the world blame vladimir putin, there is an outcry, an anger among people around the world, including inside russia where people lit candles. now according to human rights groups, more than 300 people inside russia were arrested while mourning for alexei navalny. as you mentioned, his death, only days old, the second anniversary of russia's invasion of ukraine and days after ukrainian forces lost a town, a strategy strategic town in ukraine.

here h here's anne thompson. >> reporter: this is a rare glimpse into the secret lives of polar bears. cameras attached to 20 beers near churchill, canada, recorded their activities in august and september of 2019, '21 and '22. revealing their eating habits on land. and what u.s. geological scientists anthony pagano and others discovered isn't good. can you explain to me what your research found? >> our findings indicate that polar bears are at risk of starvation as foods on land are not an adequate replacement for seals on the sea ice. >> reporter: the sea ice is both the hunting platform and dining room table for these bears. to feast on nutrient-rich, fatty seals. but, with the ice taking up to a month longer to form in our warming world, the hungry bears are spending more time on land.
