a good thursday morning to you. thank you for allowing us to be part of your morning. i am marcus washington. i am laura garcia. let's get to the breaking news. a massive outage hit the bay area last night as well as around the country. >> bob is live in livermore. bob, i understand you are back in service. >> reporter: i am, and i live in livermore. overnight around 1:15 i didn't have service on my iphone 14, but around 3:00 this morning, it did come back. a similar situation for some of our colleagues in san josé. but i am in touch with my father who lives in florida. he has an iphone 15, at&t, and he says his service is still out. we just received a statement from at&t, and they say some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning. we are working urgently to restore service to them.

according to down detector.com, it's a website that tracks outages. it recorded more than 71,000 outages among at&t customers. the outages happened in the bay area, los angeles, houston, miami, and by the way, my brother that lives north of miami, he has not experienced any outages. i got my service back, and livermore colleagues and san josé, they have service back. earlier this morning san francisco's department of emergency management tweeted out their 911 center was still operational at the time and advised people needing assistance to use a landline or use a friend who has a separate carrier. verizon, some customers did experience issues when calling

we are headed for the low 60s. even though we are seeing temperatures very much like we have seen in the past few days, i think that sunshine will make all the difference, and make it feel warmer. the warming trend continues for the weekend in the upper 60s for inland valleys starting tomorrow. cinthia, you have been tracking the crash in fremont. what is going on. >> yeah, southbound 680 before you get to the auto mall parkway zone, and the lanes are picking up with heavy backup, and the crews are in the clearing stage of this. you might notice on the map and behind that crash, we have the area highlighted in the deep red color. this is what i want to remind you of, the closure on niles canyon road. it's expected to reopen tomorrow. we will keep an eye on that and see how early they open for the friday morning commute. in san josé, coming up from morgan hill and gilroy, there's

temperatures about the same as yesterday but we will get more sunshine. 64 in hayward as well as in the south bay. let's take a look at tomorrow because it continues to warm up. as the 7-day forecast comes up at the bottom of the crean, we will continue to see warmer air coming in as well as a much-improved weekend compared to last weekend. we will see a high of 68 in san martin. even warmer on sunday as we see upper 60s and low 70s expected all across the bay area. let's talk about when we will see rain again. we know eventually it's coming. we had a big storm system off the coastline, and as we look at the motion of the storm, it's not headed due east. it's actually dipping further to the south, as it remains blocked by high pressure. that will stir it away from us.

we will see a lot of the moisture getting drawn into the bay area as it meets up with a cold front that will be coming in. that could mean widespread rain, sierra snow and big changes for us after enjoying a nice start to the weekend. rainfall totals next week, they don't look all that significant. we don't expect big-time flooding or anything like that from the incoming storms, but could see half an inch in rainfall, and sierra will get more compared to the rain we will see here with the potential next week of getting about nine inches of snow in lake tahoe, and 22 for kingvale. temperatures going from 72 on saturday to only 60 on monday. we will still need the sweaters, and heavier jackets. mornings will be starting out in the upper 30s.

in florida, he still doesn't have service. my brother in florida as well outside ft. lauderdale, he never lost service. my point is it's sporadic. colleagues in san josé, they lost service but it returned around 3:00 this morning. if you are verizon or t-mobile, the only way you will notice the issue is if you try to get in touch with a person who has at&t. at&t said some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning. we encourage the use of wi-fi calling until service is restored. i checked a website that tracks these kind of outages, and at 5:00 this morning, they recorded more than 71,000 outages among at&t customers.

protests so far this week around the issue of ending u.s. aid to israel. the one last night had some tense moments. a coalition of pro palestinian groups marched through the pacific heights neighborhood in san francisco calling for a cease-fire between israel and hamas and an end to u.s. aid to israel. tense moments ensued at baker and pacific streets. police put up barricades to redirect the march. >> the protest is to let the biden admin know people in san francisco and people of america are not okay with our tax dollars funding this genocide. >> president biden was in the pacific heights neighborhood to fundraise. the president came out swinging at the republican party saying it once had, quote, an american moral center, but that seems to be lost. he also zeroed in on former

president trump, and had choice words for russian president, vladimir putin, saying, quote, we have a crazy sod like that putin, but the threat to humanity is climate. the president is expected to leave san francisco to head down to the south bay, and he's expected to then attend a campaign fundraiser in loss altos before 3:00 and leave the bay area around 4:00 this afternoon. tickets, laura, to the fundraiser range from $6,600 to $100,000 per person. that's the big, as you mentioned, a lot of business happening on this trip. >> thank you. new this morning, a catering contact turned into a tough lesson for a black-owned bakery

in the south bay. it started as a $16,000 deal, and it costs the small business owners thousands instead. kris sanchez has this story. tell us about this. >> a small business in the south bay got a sweet call from a rep from tesla requesting a mini job for thousands of mini pies for black history this week. the bakery started as a home business in 2016, so to get a big order like silicon giant, tesla. after both sides agreed on a quote in writing and exchanged an invoice in writing for 4,000 pies for delivery, she got right to work. she asked staff to work extra hours, and rushed an order for packaging supplies and declined three other catering jobs to

accommodate that order. two days after taking the tesla job, she told me she was in bed for the night when she got a text message canceling the order. >> it said, like, we didn't matter, you know, and it felt like, okay, it's no big deal, it's just a business transaction that didn't pan out. it's not like that, you know. i had to tell my staff, change your plans. >> fortunately she and her staff had not yet made all 4,000 mini pies. she said she has done problems like this one with no trouble in the past, from weddings to corporate events like google, apple and adobe events. she's now rethinking about making her cancelation policy after this. i reached out to tesla to see if they were going to compensate

wasn't here for it, but nevertheless, history has taught us a lot. >> you just told us a lot right there. we have very low visibility around parts of the north bay. you can see the clouds sinking over the top of the golden gate bridge, so there you can't see that far either. we are going to continue to monitor what we are seeing for the morning commute heading through parts of marin county where visibility has dropped down to zero. we are also seeing quarter mile visibility over towards napa. the fog we are seeing is not as widespread as it was yesterday, but still causing a problem as you get ready to drive to work. once that clears out, we have sunshine today. our temperatures are headed for the mid-60s. in san josé, we are looking at a high of 66 degrees. 64 in morgan hill. low to mid-60s for much of the

bay. san francisco, 62 degrees. in the north bay, up to 60 in napa and 62 in ukiah. these temperatures are about the same as what we have seen, but we are looking ahead to a warm-up, and eventually this having an impact on our weather. we can see it's a large area of low pressure getting wound up. it's going to avoid us over the next few days. we will continue to enjoy dry weather and high pressure keeping us clear and driving away the storm system for a while. once the high pressure slides off towards the east, we will see the draw of moisture coming into the bay area increasing our rain chances late on sunday, and also meeting up with a cold front that will be dipping to the south. we will see a lot more widespread sierra snow, bay area rain and cold temperatures through next week as we see a more active storm pattern
