or so. it is been pretty steady with people coming in and doing not. there are couple different places here at city hall for people to drop off the completed ballots. just inside that door is another place where people can drop off their ballots. in san francisco, the big issues, while mayor is up for reelection this year, it is a position not party-affiliated. there is no primary vote for mayor. several ballot issues that voters here are deciding on. seven. prop a3g. they range from affordable housing to police oversight. even to encouraging the san francisco schools to adopt or allow students to take algebra until eighth grade. the really cool thing here at this voting spot in san francisco inside is if you go

happening in san francisco this evening. while voters, including here in california, 16 states and one territory casting primary ballots for residents members of congress. president biden and former president trump are both excited to sweep their states. former u.n. ambassador nikki haley is vowing to stay in the race nbc dallas bar is speaking with voters and arlington, virginia about what is bringing them to the polls today. >> reporter: this super tuesday voters for more than a dozen states across country casting ballots and sounding off on a likely joe biden/donald trump rematch. >> i don't agree with both policy -wise. i would vote for biden. >> former president trump will deliver the referendum and is adeptly great for the country. >> reporter: to utah. >> it is either have democracy and a guy that is too old to run or democracy ends. >> reporter: in massachusetts. >> i voted for joe because he is a decent guy. i think he is

>> we have rain and clouds and eventually, sunshine. right now, as we look at the satellite radar picture, this looks impressive by all accounts. the storm system is offshore and this will move down the coastline. we will get more rain chances in here this evening. i do not take it will be anything that will keep you away from casting your vote over the next hour or two. if you do drop off the eyelet, a few spotty shower showing up on storm ranger doppler radar. the most consistent area is near the tri-valley moving off to the north. picking up more showers in danville through 5:37 and likely holding showers into walnut creek at 5:50 tonight. with the storm system offshore, we do think tomorrow morning a line will develop out here near the coastline and eventually move in thunderstorm chances for us to we will get you all the timing and details on that, plus the warming of the sunshine coming our way. those details and timing can up in 15 minutes.

>> you want to give up to the latest weather? download our nbc bay area app. the qr on the left side of the screen will take you to radar. it is very useful. a traffic shop turned into a police chase in a crash in the east bay. happen around 9:45 a.m. on sunday first avenue in oakland. officers tried to pull of her car they say was connected to a recent carjacking. the driver took off and police chased the car until crushed near 73rd avenue. the driver ditched the car and ran into this neighborhood. officer set up a perimeter and arrested the driver. they are asking anyone that is not the case to please call them. in fremont, police investigated a shooter the set of over to the hospital it happened just before 10:00 this morning at stevenson boulevard near 880. or police arrived with the one person shot inside a car. we do not know what their condition is this evening. there were early reports that two drivers may have been

shooting at each other. police have refused to confirm that. they are saying it may have been a targeted shooting and then shop leave there is any ongoing threat to the public. san francisco is working hard with state and federal officials to reduce crime in the city. they say their effort to be paying off. compared to last february, san francisco saw a 37% reduction in theft which includes car break-ins and retail theft. a 20% reduction in robbery. 40% reduction in burglary. the city saw zero murders last month. property crime overall is also down 29%. violent crime is down 17%. last june the governor doubled the number of chp officers in the city and increased national guard staffing to provide or support to fight crime in the city. the man accused of killing

a usa cycling champion and a drunk driving crash in san francisco last year maybe close to striking a plea deal. as thom jensen reports, the deal is raising objections. >> reporter: it is not just the family or traffic safety advocates who have questions. even the judge in the case says he has serious questions about this plea deal. there is a small memorial and place for 44-year-old stephen boyce had been killed, allegedly by a drunk driver. capital he was writing his bicycle last april. more than 100 people attended a memorial for the u.s. cycling champion. >> a larger-than-life figure. or to accord to a new filing in federal court, the u.s. attorney's office has struck a plea deal with 81-year-old driver who allegedly hit him. the plea agreement would allow him to enter guilty pleas to what amounts to misdemeanor charges and face when you're in jail or less. >> in terms of the sentence, the needs to be harsher than one year misdemeanor. to this bay area cyclist who was a close friend and organize

meet arthur lawson who lives in danville. by his side, his wife joanne. they have been married 72 years. he served in the u.s. army from 1940 until 1946. he earned a doctorate from uc berkeley. on his special day, arthur gave us advice for living a good, long life. such always have something you are excited for. >> the mayor of danville popped by and gave arthur a special plaque. notable achievements in his life are organizing a program for physically challenged students and working for the red cross. to arthur, we say happy birthday. always have a goal. being a responsible news organization there are some things we do not do an election date like about results before the polls close. >> what they we can do is praise those that take the time to make sure the polls run smoothly. we saw what person has been doing that for more than half

years she has gone from just volunteering on election day to now starting months before helping the entire county prepare. >> we started the first work day of january. we started doing the train the trainer and training for all of the vote center staff. i have been helping with that january until today. >> reporter: now, a worker on election day, it is not what it used to be. fewer and fewer looters -- voters to to do so. you would think it would damper her enthusiasm for what she does and you would be wrong. emily says days like today are just the tip of the iceberg. >> we also have headphones. >> reporter: there is so much more going on. she sees all of the effort and organization that goes on behind the scenes. the inner workings of a working democracy, you might say. and, it gives her pride.

know that it is a cold one out here to. 57 and a chance of a few on and off spotty shower's as we head through tonight. 55 at 8:00. the thing that brought in a little bit of rainfall and more of the clouds is the system just off shore. this one, as we head through tonight tomorrow, it will be real close. it look like it is moving down the coastline, eventually to southern california as we head tomorrow evening. for us, we will see some rainfall from this tomorrow. it does not look like a whole lot in terms of widespread coverage. at 11:00 tonight, it looks impressive out here. as we see it get closer to tomorrow, the bulk of it stays offshore. although as we head to tomorrow afternoon, it is the best to get it went up in the south bay. maybe isolated, spotty thunderstorms for san jose, gilroy and through the santa cruz mountains. as we head through 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00, we hang on to the chance through the south bay. without me has the best bet of

novato. another day with cloud coverage throughout the bay area. a lot of us are desperate to get in on some sunshine . we are looking really good for the area of high pressure thursday and friday and will move the storm track off to the north. it is not your imagination. we have not seen a whole lot of son not so far this year. in san francisco, since january 1st only five days with sunshine. that is it. just five days. 82% of 2024 has been cloudy. we needed. sunshine on the way friday. but would like to see this on the 10 day forecast. went up into 70s, not this coming weekend, but the weekend after that it may be mid 70s in the mix and it will be awesome. the seven day forecast of few spotty shower's return saturday, sunday and monday. i would not cancel any plans over it as we head that we can't., the look of the forecast at 5:30.
