heavy rain. this is from the valley. south san jose look at that flooding it looks deep this is today. >> downpours, heavy rain turned into hail. check this out. slushy stuff also in theal man den valley. >> and someone sent us this video. you will see lightning also in alma den valley. you can get a better look in the center and the heavy clouds around it. so let's get the intel from jeff ranieri. i mean it was such a different picture yesterday and all of a sudden we have a burst of crazy rain again. >> that storm system that is just off the coastline as it's moving towards southern california we got these bands coming in and if you were driving over the past three to four hours you hit one of the thunderstorm cells you had to slow down to 20 miles per hour even less and just made

visibility nearly down to zero in some cases. pretty dangerous. there is the center of the storm. let's let it loop around headed towards los angeles. we'll continue to see the outer bands through the next few hours. we are tracking spots on doppler radar. the tri valley we have the rainfall over 680 and 580. and wet in fremont through 5:30 tonight and that will push down here to san jose into 5:41. and a spot towards sunnyvale through 5:21. and a spot that is getting nailed with the heavy rain, lightning and hail has been towards morgan hill and gilroy. you are starting to clear out in morgan hill but we have still more of this rain in gilroy for 30 or so minutes. when it comes to the rainfall totals 3 look at this.

and he is taking a different approach speaking publicly on shannon o'connor's behalf so we can hear for the first time her side of the story. she has been in jail for two years now. >> well, she has been held without bail since the moment she was arrested that typically reserved for the most serious offenders. capital murder bail. >> reporter: the attorney taking a stance defending his new client shannon o'connor wednesday. this is day one for him on what has been a high profile criminal case in the south bay. >> she is clearly not a murderer. she is in fact i think very unlikely to be a repeat offender. >> o'connor initially faced 39 counts and potentially 17 years behind bars for allegedly throwing booze-filled parties for her underage son and friends in 2020 and 2021.

she encouraged them to have sex sometimes non-consensually. prosecutors brought the case to a grand jury. she was indicted on 67 counts. she now faces a maximum of 31 years if found guilty. >> the district attorney moved this case away from easy potential resolution. >> the reason that we chose to go to grand jury was because there were so many unnecessary delays. the grand jury was a way to ensure our victims were not retraumatized by the process. >> if your intent was to resolve the case for something satisfactory to everyone involved, that's probably not what you would do. so my suspicion is that the writing is on the wall and the case is going to have to be tried. >> reporter: before a trial there is a mountain of work ahead. a judge granted him 90 days to catch up on evidence it includes some 30, 50,000 documents, audio, social media, and a month's work of transcriptions from the grand jury process. he says he is up to the task.

but is concerned about o'connor. >> she has been in custody for years. >> we still believe if she were released she would be a danger to the community and it's appropriate for her to be in custody on no bail. >> reporter: o'connor has pleaded not guilty and appealed the bail issue and it reached the state's supreme court that upheld the decision. her next hearing is scheduled for june 5. i'm candice nguyen nba bay area news. hirks police made an arrest in a shooting last month in a shooting. people were gathering in a parking lot for a vigil for a man when two women and a man were shot. the women were taken to the hospital and expected to recover. the man died at the scene. last friday police arrested juan carlos for the shooting. >> booby trapped and loaded with firearms how prosecutors found a

hometh gillry. police are alerted to the man when found loiterering near an elementary school. marcus beck was involved in a dui crash they found a loaded firearm in his car and rifle in the trunk. when police went to his home afterward, they discovered he left the oven on home filled with natural gas sparking concerns there could be an explosion. it triggered the lockdown at that school. he is accused of hit-and-run and the illegally stored the firearms he is expected in court next month. >> super tuesday is over and many results are in but election workers are still hard at work counting all those ballots. so far the santa clara register's office processed 182,000 ballots and workers have to process the vote-by-mail ballots that can come in up to seven days after the election. in santa clara county 92% of

voters vetted by mail higher than the state average. over all turnout statewide is expected to be very low. the vote count still going on in san francisco but the results are sparking a debate about the city's identity. some stay from progressive to conservative. others say it's only a sign that voters want a city that is safer. we are in san francisco with a look at the results and this debate. >> reporter: just after the polls closed last night the mayor waded into a victory party put together by a coalition of groups that backed her ballot measures and a slate of candidates on the local democratic party committee. she was happy about the direction of those early election results. >> i'm going to officially call the results of in our favor. >> reporter: and now the day after the message from the voters is clear and simple. >> we want results we don't want to hear excuses we don't want to

wait until another election to see progress. we want it now and that's what the ballot measures signified. >> reporter: the mayor co-sponsored prop a for affordable housing and championed three measures focused on the biggest issues, housing, crime and homelessness. prop which would incentivize businesses to convert space to residential. prop e to reform police oversight. and prop f which requires people getting welfare cash payments to be screened for drug use and to enroll in treatment. all of them look poised to pass. if last night was good for the mayor it was great for groups to grow sf. >> reporter: would you say last night was beyond your expectations? >> 100%. >> reporter: they opposed one issue. they also hoped to place at least 10 people on the central democratic committee and instead will win 20 seats and control of

the committee. local elections in san francisco are not party affiliated but it's well-known at that time san francisco is a democratic stronghold. so if moderates are doing well it's the pogsive wing that took a wallop. >> the tech billionaires and millionaires the funders behind prop b and prop f were able to mislead where voters. >> angela chan is with the coalition of groups that opposed. they are disappointed by the election results but hope this is a temporary swing and more progressive policies will return. in san francisco sergio quintana nbc news. elon musk posted he is not donating any money for either candidate for u.s. president. he met with trump looking for funding for his campaign. the former president is scrambling for cash after he dealing with legal costs and

legal penalties. musk met with the biden administration last september. the billionaire is currently engaged in 11 regulatory or legal fights with the biden administration and other federal agencies. however, he is engaged in public [ inaudible ] with former president trump. the last serious challenge to nikki haley gave up her bid for the white house. that leaves mr. trump as the presumptive nominee in a rematch with president biden. capitol hill lawmakers lining up behind the former president. list list has more from washington. >> reporter: a head-to-head biden trump rematch is under way in what will be one of the longest general election campaigns for president in modern history. former president trump becoming the presumptive republican nominee after this sole rival nikki haley dropped out today. >> i said i wanted americans to

have their voices heard. i have done that. i have no regrets. >> reporter: haley who served as u.n. ambassador in the trump administration congratulated but did not endorse her former boss. >> now up to donald trump to earn the votes of those in our party who did not support it. and i hope he does that. >> reporter: mr. trump on social media saying haley had gotten trounced and inviting her supporters to join him. president biden pointing to past trump comments that anyone who contributed to haley's campaign would be permanently barred from the maga camp. in his own outreach to haley voters the president saying quote you don't have to agree with me on everything to know maga extremism is a threat to this country. on capitol hill, hold out gop lawmakers lining up to endorse former president trump. most notably the senate's top republican mitch mcconnell who

. hayward police are trying to figure out if an illegal marijuana grow house is at the center of a burglary that september an officer to the hospital. we have more on the investigation and why business owners think officers are missing a key piece of evidence. >> reporter: crime scene tape marked the location of a suspected marijuana grow site hit by burglars around 5:30 this morning. hayward police say it started with calls of a burglary in progress as officers arrived they saw several individuals race away triggering a pursuit. >> they fled the scene in a car and the officer tried to catch up to them. he crashed on calf vet boulevard. >> reporter: during the chase an officer crashed and rolled the cruiser. he was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. and tonight investigators say an unknown number of suspects are still on the loose.

>> we do believe that it could be connected to an illegal marijuana grow and that is what prompted the burglary in the first place. though officers are still investigating and that has not been confirmed yet. we're waiting for the search warrant to be approved. >>. >> reporter: a man says he came here to find two of his cars riddled with bullets. you can see one with shattered glass from that gunfire. the man did not want to go on camera and says he is especially frustrated after police told him the damage was not related to the burglary. >> we don't have any information to say there was an exchange of gunfire. we cannot say that those incidents are related. however, we are conducting an investigation to make sure and rule out that at that time scene is not connected. >> reporter: business owners say this is a known grow site and it's been burglarized one in the past. hayward pd have not made any arrests in this latest burglary. bella lin nba news.

. interest rates could come down but it's too soon to say when that is the word from federal reserve chair jerome powell. he said interest rates have likely reached their peak and he expects they will come down this year. but he says the committee is concerned about adjusting rates too soon. >> reducing policy restraints too soon or too much could result in a reversal in progress and require tighter policy to get inflation back to 2%. powell says the committee will adjust rates when data shows inflation moving toward its 2% goal. for the first time in a decade, credit scores have gone down during the pandemic scores
