information about what triggered this emergency landing. we will bring you that when we get it. we continue to learn more about the wild flight from sfo yesterday. a flight lost a wheel in midair. you can see this we'll go right there. it got off and the wheel fell. we spoke with a passenger on board that flight and he told us about how they found until the crew handled the situation. let's take you to san francisco. >> reporter: eight seconds after flight 35 from sense for san francisco to japan took off one of the wheels from the left rear landing gear fell off. it seemed like a routine takeoff at first. >> everything seemed normal as far as takeoff goes. there were 19 of us taking a trip to osaka together.

>> reporter: passengers did not know what happened till about 10 minutes into the flight when the pilot made an announcement. >> the captain came on and said that air traffic control said there was an issue and they were looking into it. about 10 minutes after that they told us they lost a wheel. >> reporter: he said they did not find out where that wheel landed for a while. it bounced and landed several yards away at a rental car location nearby. investigators documented it and hauled it away. the faa and national transportation safety board are not saying much about it yet. a veteran pilot says this is just the start of what will likely be an exhaustive investigation by the feds and others. >> they will gather information and they will pull a group together of experts. there will be somebody from united and somebody from boeing. somebody from the wheel

manufacture and the brake manufacturer. they will dissect exactly what happened. >> reporter: there was some concern corey said but the crew kept everyone,. they said they did not notice anything out of the ordinary until they saw the airplane was dumping fuel as it diverted to lax. >> you usually don't see fuel being dumped out of a plane like that. it made us a little uneasy for a bit. >> reporter: the plane they were on landed safely. they were happy to get meal vouchers during the unanticipated layover in la. somewhere a bit uneasy after seeing videos of the airplane losing the wheel but they continued on the trip and landed safely in osaka this morning. from san francisco a.m. sergio quintana, nbc bay area news. crews are battling a brush fire in antioch. sky ranger caught this video

overhead. this is near the san joaquin river. this is one mile north of century plaza shopping center where the cosco is. the thick black smoke going into the air. fire crews are at the scene and they said it is about five acres. we will watch this story throughout the evening for you. a beautiful sunny day. a welcome sight for many following all of the rain that we got. from oakland to all the way to san jose, look at that. over the sierra today it was also clear. you can see how much snow they got. this is after that blizzard last week. the storm closed roads leaving drivers stranded. with all of the fresh snow skiers and snowboarders are taking advantage. let's bring in meteorologist rob mayeda to get the latest. now there is another storm that could come this weekend? >> yes.

not as extreme as that lizard but probably the best ski conditions of the year so far. and just a complete reversal of that sierra snow pack. at the beginning of the year it was 28% of average but thanks to several feet of snow that came down over the last week that averages that 102% of average and 96% of the april 1 benchmark average. the sierra water content, that's no water content, is very close to the average that we look to get as we approach the start of april. we will add to those totals a bit over the weekend. overnight sunday and into monday and tuesday, we could see another eight-10 inches of snow. the reason for the winter storm watch. as beautiful as it was around the area, there are changes around the corner. a better chance of more rain going into sunday evening. don't pack away the umbrella

sought to shift the blame to house republicans for rejecting a bipartisan border security bill that former president trump opposed. >> we can fight about fixing the border or we can fix it. >> reporter: president biden looking to flip the script. >> it is not how old we are. it's how old the ideas are. >> reporter: both president biden and former president trump are said to campaign in georgia this weekend ahead of the tuesday primary. and they continued his battleground bits. president biden has trips planned to new hampshire, wisconsin, and michigan next week. in washington i am alice barr, nbc news. more than 91 million dollars is the size of the find that trump had to pay in the eiji carol case.

his attorneys filed notice and they plan to appeal the verdict today, just days before it was due. they had to post the full amount from the verdict plus interest. congress may not have seen the last of representative george santos. two thirds of the house voted to expel him and he is accused of fraud, money laundering, and identity theft. he faces 23 federal charges. but now he has plans for a come back. he tweeted saying he plans to run for congress again. he says he is going after the long island seat of representative nick --. the primary will take place this june. we will not funded if you don't fix it. that is the message from some frustrated oakland business owners. they say they will stop paying

taxes to the city until the city provide safer neighborhoods to live in. organizers are asking small business owners to join them. over the past two years, this restaurant has been robbed twice at gunpoint. the owner says he really sees police patrols despite the holdups that have plagued the area the last two years. >> we will not pay taxes to the city until we have the city that we does the deserve. >> reporter: in addition to the multiple robberies he says he has seen a 25% drop in business and customers are staying away because they don't feel safe. >> we are not the only ones. we are all in the same boat. the city needs to effectively and immediately do something. >> reporter: the city council sympathizes with the number of business owners feeling the pinch from having fewer customers and more crime.

>> the owner is absolutely correct. we keep just elevating taxes and we are not providing the service for safety. >> the full counsel main need to consider a tax deferment initiative for the affected businesses. they plan to recall -- and they say the buck stops at the top. >> the ball is being dropped significantly. this is due to poor policies and poor leadership. >> even larger businesses are having difficulty covering their tax bills in the current environment and the issue is more severe for small operators like josi ortiz. >> if you are not providing the services, how can you charge full business taxes to these businesses that are barely surviving? >> a spokesperson says progress is being made and he says that oakland has filled all but one of the vacant officer positions.

a new attempt to address one of the oldest problems in the area. a new expanded facility aims to provide everything from medical assistance to social services to the unhoused. robert honda shows us the latest edition. >> this is one of several medical examination rooms at

the santa clara valley clinic at the home first shelter. it is for those that are not housed. it was time to cut the ribbon on a new gift. today the santa claraphilly system unveiled a huge expansion of its once modest clinic at the home first shelter. community leaders got to see the clinic that has doubled in size and provides a wide array of services including medical, social services, and mental health services for the homeless. >> this is like a dream come true. it is a game changer for our patients and for us. >> reporter: that accessibility means getting examined for what could be a serious health problem. >> there is no excuse for not having the ultrasound or whatever. that might be critical.

evenings, they will be a bit brighter. some people are tired of the time change. it can disrupt the sleep cycle and after a time change, there is a spike in car crashes and heart attacks. in 2022 the senate passed a bill to make it daylight saving time permanent but the house had bigger priorities and it never took up the bill. all right, meteorologist rob mayeda, this is a hard one to get used to. >> yes. for the weekend, it is gorgeous outside today. i wish we could copy and paste this into the weekend but we have some changes coming up. then, a chance of seeing showers tomorrow morning and a little bit more on sunday. if you like the 70s, good news. a little bit of that with the seven-day forecast coming up. right now it is awesome outside. it is 67 degrees with blue skies and temperatures close to 70.

still nice downtown san jose. clear skies and 65 degrees. beautiful for your friday evening plans. in oakland, 60 with sunshine. and a little bit of the west wind in san jose. we saw that earlier. fremont got up to 70 degrees. all of the temperatures that we had today, thanks to high pressure building in a, it will go away but just off to the west, this is the first of two weather systems. at least where saturday is concerned. we have a chance of showers with the biggest chances in the north bay. tomorrow, upper 40s and then the clouds start to thicken up overnight. high temperatures tomorrow not quite as warm as we had yesterday with ongoing chances of showers. we will see san jose close to the mid 60s tomorrow and upper 50s for san francisco and into

oakland. take a look at the hour by hour. it kind of falls apart through the north bay at about 2:00 in the afternoon. spotty showers and then briefly, some clearing around sunset and we will stay dry through the first half of sunday and then the rain starts to pick back up. one thing to watch on sunday, you could see how the winds are kicking up sunday afternoon into the evening with wind speeds around 15-30 miles per hour. this is ahead of a storm system that will impact rainfall. notice most of sunday it is not all that bad for the morning and then by the afternoon, the main event from late afternoon and early evening in the north bay, 6 pm until about 11:00, that will be the peak rain that we expect to see. the two weather systems, saturday does not look like a lot. by sunday evening and sunday night we can see up to about

one third of and inch or even half an inch of rain across north bay. we do have one more system to deal with and this will be tuesday. you can see the rain chances and more sierras no is expected. after that, high pressure starts to build in and that will clear skies and set the stage. what you see on the bottom of the screen, low and mid-70s in the forecast as we head towards next weekend and here is a preview of the 10 day temperature outlook. danville will be in the 70s. even san francisco, by later next week, will be looking at 70s in the forecast. just not the best timing though as we have these rain chances for the weekend. one more there on tuesday and then things clear out, warm-up, and dry out it will feel a bit more like spring with mid-70s in reach by this time next week. >> it sounds nice .

microsoft is making changes to is ai system over concerns it could create inappropriate images. earlier this week a microsoft employee sent a letter to the federal trade commission saying that the ai text to image generator had systemic issues that created harmful images. it has blocked certain prompts. a microsoft spokesperson says they made the changes to prevent the technology from being misused. students taking the sat no

longer need a number two pencil. instead they will need a laptop. the sat will be administered in a digital format and you still have to show up to an sat testing center. colleges made the testing requirement optional for applicant during the pandemic. they felt it favored wealthier students but now yale and brown have reinstated the requirement. the college for that created the sat wants to convince schools of of its value. the online sat is one hour shorter than the written test. a new use for the popular weight loss drug wegovy? it could be used to reduce the risk of heart attack. they found it can reduce the risk of heart attack by about 20%. that could push more insurers
