this friday. i'm raj mathai. >> i'm gia vang. continues that could ultimately reduce the price of buying a home and help everyone make it in the bay. the national association of realtors announces it will pay $418 million to settle a class- action lawsuit over broker commissions. if approved, the deal could mean a drop in the commission you pay to a realtor when you buy or sell a home. alyssa gord explains why a home buyers, realtors, housing experts are all racing to get the latest details. >> pulled me into the double parlor. >> reporter: realtor darius are issuing this victorian in san francisco listed at a cool 3.6 million. >> at this point, sellers are ready to go and buyers are so excited to have new inventory. >> reporter: she is also a member of the national association of realtors, which resents more than 1.5 million real estate professionals. today, nar announced it will pay 418 million to settle class-action antitrust lawsuits over broker commissions. part of that deal would up and the standard for how commissions are paid to agents.

instead of home sellers being locked into a brokerage fee, which usually is around 6%, buyers and sellers could negotiate lower fees, effectively lowering the overall cost of buying a home. >> it makes it more complicated for everyone. >> reporter: she plans to continue telling sellers about the value of providing a commission. >> the realtors we spoke with said they were aware this could be coming soon but many of them are in meetings and talking with their trade associations about how exactly to proceed going forward. housing experts we spoke with believed the fee structure change could mean thousands of dollars in savings for home buyers. >> is going to shift the industry, it's going to shift the market and hopefully get more people the opportunity to buy homes. >> reporter: berkeley professor brady summers noted the existing fee structure has been blamed for realtors stealing buyers to more expensive homes, where they could make commissions. >> there's really, in the real estate market, there has been this professionalization of

real estate and the ways in which realtors have been able to profit where consumers have not had the opportunity to get what they need. >> reporter: the settlement is not a done deal. it hinges on approval from a federal judge. nar continues to deny any wrongdoing. >> this is a very high end kitchen. >> reporter: those in the real estate world continue to watch closely to see how this plays out. in san francisco, alyssa gord, nbc bay area news. some other top stories tonight. this will impact a lot of people this weekend. a major east bay freeway will be partially shut down. here's what you need to know. caltrans is closing south bound 680 in pleasanton, beginning tonight at 9:00 p.m. the stretch between the 580, 680 connector and then south down to highway 84, that will stay closed. that stretch of 680 will stay

closed and early monday morning. what is going to happen, crews will be repaving the road. caltrans says the weekend long closure will allow crews to accomplish the same amount of work they would have to get done during 40 nighttime closures. >> then we were going to do it on the presidents' day weekend. once again, we were rained out. we just had to try as best we can to find a weekend with minimal disruptions. >> the closure comes on the same weekend that dublin is expecting thousands of people for it's st. patrick's day parade and festivities. northbound lanes and all entrances to the city of dublin will remain open. bart writers could prepare for hiccups for the st. patrick's weekend. workers will be replacing parts of the truck in richmond. that means no redline service this weekend. east bay writers heading to san francisco or the peninsula will have to take the yellow line. a bus service will connect richmond and el cerrito to marte and shell service will run between ray and sfo. video you have to see of a

giant redwood tree that fell into a forest will cabin leaving a gaping hole. it happened just before 3:00 this afternoon. a strong wind was blowing, you can see all the damage right there. the roof, most of the front gone. luckily, no one was home when the tree fell. you would think seeing your home like this would be devastating but the owner says it is the nature of the environment there. >> we will call the insurance company and hope everything is covered. i've lived here for 18 years. we had flood, wind, trees falling. it's the story of life out here. you have to put up with it. >> good perspective. the fire department also had to deal with some live wires. a city inspector has read back to the house. this was all as we've been dealing with high winds. let's get to chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. seeing that video, how gusty

was it up there? >> they did get 150+ miles per hour. on the current wind, all of that wind is now starting to calm down throughout the bay area. there's a zone in the central valley getting wind gusts of 15 to 35 up toward santa rosa and renville, 15 miles per hour and below. right now, 15 miles per hour at mount diablo and 14 at san jose. if we will through tonight, we will see the wind tapering off and look at this. by tomorrow morning, this will make it excellent here. calm winds up toward napa and through most of the bay area. we are going to be insuring sunshine because of this area of high pressure as we go through saturday and sunday. also warmer temperatures. i wanted to give you a quick preview of that tonight. we begin with 49, 6:00 a.m. the inland valleys. more low 70s through the afternoon and for the coastline . fog free conditions on saturday. a little bit of an ocean breeze keeps us in the 60s in half moon bay. nonetheless, beautiful weather. one looks at st. patrick's day events, what you can expect in

those and my full forecast, plus one more rainfall will be back for us. i will show you that in 15 minutes. you can stay on top of the weather in your neighborhood by downloading our free nbc bay area at. you can scan the qr code you see right there on the left side of your screen . it will lead you right to the radar on our weather page. more fallout in the scandal involving the federal women's prison in the east bay. a judge has appointed a special master to oversee the prison. on monday, fbi agents raided the prison, which is in dublin. they seized computers, documents and other evidence. we are seeking to interview employees. the warden was also ousted. that followed new allegations that his staff retaliated against an inmate who testified against the prison. since 2021, at least eight employees have been charged with sexually abusing the inmates. five have pled guilty. two were convicted at trial.

another case is pending. questions and concerns tonight after two unexpected decisions by a southbay school board. last night san jose's alum rock school district board voted to reject a plan to relocate hundreds of students. then it fired the popular superintendent who recommended the relocation. as damien trujillo explained, the fire and caught in the board president by surprise. >> reporter: she led the alum rock school district for a decade, steering the district through some of its most challenging things. last night, to the surprise of many, the board voted 3-2 to terminate the contract of super intendant dr. hilaria bauer. board president said she was among those caught off guard by the vote. >> when it is set in decisions like this, for me, it is personally more tough. >> reporter: you were surprised by the motion. the decision was made the same night the board voted against dr. hilaria bauer's organization to close a middle school at aptitud community academy at goss. no reason was given for the termination, only that dr.

hilaria bauer will be given 10 days of lead. the decision left many parents with a lot of questions. >> it is sad to see someone that did their part for the district, not just the district but the students, everybody and for her to be gone, it's kind of sad. now who are we going to get? >> reporter: this. says she wants dr. hilaria bauer back. in a statement, the alum rock educators association said this is quite a surprise. he educators association is taken aback by the timing of the board decision. however, the teachers union also said there were signs the district needed a fresh start. tonight, the board president is trying to put worried parents and students at ease. >> they can be assured our district continues to run as is. we have amazing staff of teachers and administrators at the school that will continue to work as they have been. >> reporter: the new superintendent will face very immediate challenges, including a dramatic decline in student enrollment and a $20

million.budget deficit next school year with the numbers and not adding up, the fear will be the district will be forced to close almost half a dozen schools. in san jose, damien trujillo, nbc bay area news. the high-profile case of a stabbing of a tech executive is staying in san francisco. prosecutors say ni momeni killed bob lee last april. nima momeni's legal team was in court to try to move the trial to a venue outside of the city. his lawyers say those motions aren't often granted so they were not disappointed but they did clean the other ruling as a win. >> i'm very happy with the ruling he give us on the phones. we will get a full phone dump of seven years worth of information on those phones. i think that's going to be very fruitful for our defense. i'm very happy about, our whole team is happy about that ruling. >> nima momeni seen in court is set to be back in court for a

hearing next month . a tentative start date for his trial has been scheduled for may 20th. at 6:00, tesla has settled a racial discrimination lawsuit brought by a former elevator operator at its fremont plate. that worker, a windy is, has already won two trials over racist rumination at tesla and was awarded more than $3 million in damages by a federal jury. the same firm that represented diaz is now presenting a group of current and former employees in a proposed class action suit against tesla. the latest suit claims the harassment of black workers has continued at the automaker, even after diaz brought attention to the culture of discrimination. what was once an abandoned hospital will now serve thousands of people in the south bay. santa clara county will open it on monday and says it is badly needed to reach underserved groups. ian cole explained. >> reporter: for several years, the old people health center in morgan hill has been dormant.

>> did feel like an abandoned mid-shift out of a movie. >> reporter: now it has new life. when verity health system went bankrupt, santa clara county bought it and renovated the property. as of today, they turned it into valley health center morgan hill. it opens monday and doctors say it is crucial for families in south county. >> make that exceptional care available to every single person in our community, regardless of status, regardless of income, regardless of background. that is what we do. >> reporter: the agency morgan hill as part of the county health system and will be open seven days a week. it will offer general surgery, medicare, radiology, urgent care, and have a pharmacy and more services will be added in the future so those in the south county don't have to trek to san jose for care. >> what it means is that a life is saved. what it means is that that person will be able to be a

damien from milburn connect to a far right militia movement is facing life in prison for killing an oakland court officer. the shooting happened in 2020. robert justice junior and former air force sergeant stephen kariya killed federal security officer david underwood. another officer was hurt. today, robert justice junior was sentenced to life in

prison. investigators say the two are tied to the far right citizens militia movement called the boogaloo. the registrar is mainly cutting senators related to pamela prices recall campaign. last monday, save alameda for everyone, the group behind the recall effort, dropped off the signatures of people supporting the recall. they said they had more than 123,000 signatures, well over the minimum needed, which is about 73,000 signatures. yesterday, though, the county registrar of voters said it is not clear if one of those signatures were valid. so, the county used random sampling method approved by the state. the results weren't high enough to trigger a recall. so, the registrar is manually counting. the group released a

statement saying they welcome the mandible recount which "enjoys the integrity of the election process." the nation's rosie the riveter's are gearing up to get one of the country's highest honors, the congressional gold medal. we spoke with one of them today. 98-year-old jean gibson here is among 30 rosie the riveter's will be collectively receiving the metal next month. at age 18, gibson began working as a welder to help u.s. destroyers during world war ii. she now shares her experience with the younger generation at the rosie the riveter museum in richmond and gives them hopes to inspire them. >> we could do it. yes. it kind of became a model of life. if there's something i want to do, go ahead and do it. >> they should be recognized for this. they were a main part of what happened in world war ii. they really like even though

they weren't in the war, they were doing amazing things back home. >> gibson and the contingent of rosies will accept the model on april 10th at the nation's capitol. dublin is celebrating 40 years at this weekend's st. patrick's day festival. the lions club will host a parade and there's a shamrock 5k fun run and walk. on it, there's a gala. tomorrow and sunday, the festival will feature irish music, dancing, irish food and a family-friendly carnival. you can get all the information you need on the dublin city website or through the new dublin app, where you can also grab your tickets. >> you have all these st. patrick's day parades. he's got the marathon, you have a 5k, a lot happening here. >> there really is a pot of gold this weekend in the form of sunshine. it's coming in strong on saturday and sunday. just what we've all wanted. we've had so few weekends where we've had sunny skies.

it will be a really nice treat as we get into it. let's take you outside right now. if you are doing anything tonight in san francisco, fog free conditions and 61 degrees. we dropped down to 50s at 8:00 and 9:00. we had lots of 70s today. holding onto 75 near the bay and clear skies from our oakland camera. we go down to 62 at 9:00 tonight. through the inland valleys, continuing with 70s as well. we've got 50s later on through 10:00 and 11:00. after the wind we've had the past day and a half, which has been really strong, especially in the hills, 500 feet and above, there's no way we will get into some wind this weekend, which is a big relief to a lot of you that still have storm cleanup to do. the storm system that produced that wind is moving off to the east. there's no way that's going to impact us. we have this area of high pressure. we will be on the warmer side of things for this time of year. as we move through tomorrow morning, we start off with chilly temperatures to begin with 47 through the peninsula

and the south bay at 48. it will be mostly clear with calm winds. 50 in san francisco and 46 in the north bay. let's move through the microclimate forecast. down across the south bay, we are back at it again. 74 in san jose. 70s continuing for morgan hill and gilroy. for the east bay, coming up to 72 in fremont. 74 in concord. maybe you are heading out to dublin for the st. patrick's day festivities this weekend. if you are going there, it will get up into the 70s as we head into the early afternoon and not expecting a cloud in the sky. looking gorgeous there. let's move it over to the lancelot. 67 in half moon bay, redwood city, palo alto, woodside, los altos, atherton coming in the low 70s tomorrow. san francisco, some big st. patrick's day events. they have the iconic parade starting at 11:30 tomorrow morning with festivities until 6:00 p.m. that parade starts at second and orchid street. even 70 around 2:00, 3:00, 4:00.

san francisco is cracking down on speeding. fs mta plans to mount 30 new speed cameras on the most dangerous intersections in the city. it stemmed from legislation governor gavin newsom signed last year. san francisco, oakland, san jose and three other cities to install and in busy areas like market area, slope boulevard from 41st to skyline and

mission street in soma will get these cameras. a total of 33. each of the 11 supervisor district will get at least two speed cameras. the sf mta will announce the rollout next thursday. >> this is the first of two meetings they will have to share with the public how they are doing this. they are being transparent and proactive. they are working with neighborhood groups and with organizations like walk san francisco and find fines and fees groups. >> where will they be ? we posted the complete list of the potential locations on our website, nbcbayarea.com. nash i can't fly you to the moon just yet but you can send your name to the moon. this a couple hours left to do
