baby and their condition tonight. and then a weekend long closure on the east bay highway. now, expressing outrage in the case involving a chinese immigrant, and what investigators are now saying about the investigation. the news at 6:00 starts right now. thank you for joining me. i am gia vang. a third person has died following a crash yesterday at a bus stop in san francisco. we first told you about this as breaking news last night. the crash happened around noon yesterday at a bus stop at lennox way, and that's right outside the west portal branch library. two people, including a child died at the scene. paramedics took the driver and two other victims to the hospital and this afternoon police confirmed a woman hit by the car has also died. we learned the other victim is a

baby, and at last check the baby is still recovering from serious injuries. tonight a memorial is growing at the site of the crash, people stopping to leave flowers and toys to pay respects for the victims. we spoke to one mother that is on edge after the crash. >> we walk this almost every single day, and, i was, like, wow, what if it happened to me? >> the cause of the crash is still under investigation. police say they do not believe traffic engineering, which is how cities plan to make streets safe and efficient, was a factor. while we don't know the cause of this crash, but the city of san francisco transportation agency released a list of potential locations of the cameras. they are inspected to install 33 total cameras across some of the most dangerous streets, near

pier 39, the embarcadero, and mission street in soma are expected to get the cameras. the move stems from legislation governor newsom signed last year, and it allows san francisco, oakland, san josé and three other california cities to install the cameras. set to reopen on-time, that's what caltrans is saying about the closure of southbound 680 in pleasanton between the 580 and 680 connector and highway 84. the weekend-long closures let crews repave the road in one go. caltrans shared video of the work and gave us an update on the progress this afternoon. >> we have pretty much ripped up the cold concrete and put in the new floor and are just waiting for the comment to cure. we are definitely removing some of the brush and working on the

asphalt and rehab paving along the off-ramps and on-ramps along pleasanton as well. >> the ramps are expected to open by 4:00 a.m. tomorrow. of course make sure to watch "today in the bay" tomorrow, and you can take us on the go and stream online with your favorite streaming app. san francisco's police chief is responding to calls for transparency in the investigation into a deadly attack of a chinese immigrant. community members with the asian justice movement gathered at a rally last night to demand action in the case of the 63-year-old wu. she was pushed off a sidewalk last july and later died of her injuries, and no arrests were made and it was ruled an accident, but the person accused

of pushing wu was arrested on a violent assault on an elderly person last week. today mayor london breed released a statement saying she wants the video to be released once the investigation is complete. she said, quote, i believe in transparency and stand with the api community for justice and all victims and survivors of hate incidents, and as soon as possible i want the video released. chief bill scott said the department will do what the mayor is requesting, and he said investigators are working diligently on the case which is an open and active investigation. in all cases we look for evidence of motivation, including possible hate crimes. they will release the video in this case. and then to the north bay we go, petaluma investigating dozens of smash and grab auto

burglaries. more than 30 vehicles were hit, taking various personal items. people are asking people who may have caught any suspicious activities on their cameras to come forward. so far no arrests have been made. pamela price is facing a recall right now, and the registrar of voters is manually counting signatures, and earlier this month save alameda for everybody, that group dropped off signatures reporting the recall petition, and that's well over what they needed. last week they used a sampling method to use those signatures, and now the registrar is manually counting those signatures. that was the moment they were all off. an estimated 10,000 people kicked off their st. patrick's day at the starting lineup of

the oakland marathon today. the annual marathon now partnered with steph and ayesha curry's foundation. thom jensen got a chance to sit down exclusively with the currys about the work their foundation does and how it moves children in oakland forward. >> reporter: what a beautiful day to start the historic partnership in the sunshine in oakland. thousands of people put on their running and walking shoes to show their support. with that the top runners in this year's oakland marathon left the start line for thousands more lacing up their shoes for the half marathon, 5k and 10k events. it's not all about competition. all of the proceeds from entries and other revenues goes towards the curry's foundation. >> we are working to make this a

dyed green to celebrate the beloved st. patrick's day. this st. patrick's day is special for the white house as president biden is the first irish catholic president since john f. kennedy. he was joined by leaders of the catholic church and some 200 invited guests for a st. patrick's day brunch earlier today. he reflected on his irish heritage and called for humanitarian aid for the people of gaza and the need for a cease-fire between israel and hamas. >> we agree about the urgent need to increase humanitarian aid in gaza and get the cease-fire deal, get the cease-fire deal and get the hostages home and move towards a two-state solution, which is the only path for lasting peace and security. >> meanwhile, israel prime minister benjamin netanyahu was blasting chuck schumer's call

for a new election. he said it would force israel to stop fighting and paralies it for months. netanyahu says international pressure will not stop israel from achieving its war goals. senator schumer called netanyahu an obstacle to a two-state solution. and nancy pelosi defended schumer's remarks. >> what is wrong with advocating for elections in a democracy? you know, you mentioned the polls. you see that thousands and thousands of people are in the streets, even last night in israel. again, it's a democracy. people have different views and they express them and that's a beautiful thing. but for him to -- what does that say if he won't even say that as the war winds down, the people of israel should speak.

>> schumer is the highest ranking jewish official in the senate as well as well as a long-time supporter of israel. the white house national security adviser said the senate should act swiftly. they are considering a bill that would force chinese company, bytedance, to sell tiktok or risk being banned, and the bill passed in the house with overwhelming support, but its momentum slowed in the senate, which remains more divided on this issue. st. patrick's day festivities continued across the bay area today. check this out in dublin. plenty of people, as you can see, came out for day two of the annual festival, and things kicked off with a 5k race. it kicked off with the irish festival, dancing, food and drinks. then what is this?

summer-time microclimate with the all-day onshore wind. san francisco, jacket weather there at 57 degrees. walnut creek, still 68 after low 70s earlier this afternoon. into dublin, speaking of st. patrick's day, a lot of sunshine and 66 degrees. more of that evening sunshine around san josé at 66, northwest wind at 15 miles per hour. we should see a repeat performance of the 70s inland tomorrow with the sea breeze not only bringing in the cooler air bay side, but likely bringing in coastal low clouds. in addition to that, patchy fog setting up inland. tomorrow morning's commute, dependsing on where you are especially in the north bay valleys and the inner bay along the coast, you may run into reduced visibilities with patchy fog for the morning. and then starting off your morning with 40s and low 50s, and areas of low clouds early, and then as early as lunchtime,

mid-60s around san josé and with monday likely being the warmest day, could have upper 70s south of san josé, and mid-70s around the tri-valley, and more 70s into the north bay. locally, one thing to watch, we could head out to the sierra, and they could see afternoon thunderstorms and we could see clouds trying to build up around lake county and south of mount hamilton. we will watch that for the next few afternoons, and then the next chance for rain in the forecast rolls around friday, and you guessed it, next weekend as well. friday you can see the rain pushing through. winter weather advisories or winter storm watches could go up again for the sierra. right now looks like friday into saturday would be the best chances for rain, and then that cooler air comes in into sunday, so less in the way of showers towards the end of next weekend, but no 70s in that forecast with snow down to 4 and 5,000 feet
