are now feared dead after the collapse of the francis scott key bridge. two men were rescued from the water, but the coast guard has switched to a recovery mission for the other six, who they do not believe will be found alive. nbc's tom llamas kicks off our coverage. >> reporter: the wreckage showing the catastrophic collision and collapse of the key bridge. >> the whole bridge just fell down. start, everybody. >> reporter: the shvideo capturg the moment the ship plunged into the bridge. >> it looked like something out of an action movie. >> reporter: maryland tr transportation officials say a construction crew was ons bridge at the time of the crash filling potholes. the company telling nbc news, six of those workers are presumed dead and one survived. we went into the air. as we fly over this disaster, can you actually see how the

bridge collapsed when the vessel crashed into those concrete pilings. they seemed to crack, sending the bridge, all that steel, into the cargo vessel and then right into the riff. the webs of mangled steel that tore through the ship's hull and are still jutting out of the water, making conditions unsafe for dive teams to enter. on this helicopter, we have a special camera that has a hyperzoom feature. as we get closer to the cargo vessel, you're struck by how the bridge, something at one point looks so sturdy with concrete and steel and those pilings is now almost completely gone or wrapped around the vessel that crashed into it. the vessel identified as the singapo singap singapore-flagged container ship "dali." all crew members have been accounted for, and that it's cooperating with the investigation. >> we chose not to board the vessel today, to allow some time for the search and recovery,

which we did not want to interfere with. >> reporter: the ntsb, which is leading that investigation, says it will know more about what went wrong once it boards the ship. from up here you also get a sense of how big this ship is, right? it's 950 feet long. that's almost about the same size as the empire state building. and when you look at the deck, it is covered in containers. stacked nearly ten high. here's what we know right now. at 1:24 a.m. on the live stream, you can see the ship's lights turn off. authorities say the ship lost power and propulsion. one minute later, at 1:25, the lights flicker back on. dark smoke starts to billow out of the ship's chimney, and the ship issued a mayday call, an urgent rush to stop vehicle traffic on the bridge. transit police issuing this command at 1:27. >> i need one of you guys on the south identiside, one of you gu the north side. there's a ship approaching that

just lost all steering. we got to stop all traffic. >> reporter: at 1:28, the last vehicles crossed the flashing lights of the construction crew. >> these people are heroes. they saved lives last night. >> reporter: just 30 seconds after the last driver clears the bridge, impact. the bridge's super structure collapsing seconds later. president biden at the white house expressing his support for the families of those still missing from the collapsed bridge, one he says he commuted over many times himself. >> we're with you. we're going to stay with you as long as takes. >> reporter: the bridge, which stretches more than a mile across the patapsco river saw roughly 31,000 vehicles pass over it every day and soared over the baltimore port, the 11th busiest in the entire country. >> i'm directing my team to move heaven and earth to reopen the port and rebuild the the bridge

soon as humanly possible. did you niotice anything strang with the ship or the crew? >> no, i did not. i would never thought in a million years that would happen. >> reporter: how dark is it out here at 1:30 in the morning? >> it's dark. even in daytime you can't really see through the water, it's murky. >> reporter: we're learning more about that missing construction crew that was on the bridge. contractor jesus campos worked with the missing men. he says they're from mexico, guatemala, el salvador and honduras. they came to baltimore for a better life and have families waiting at home. he says they were good people, people who came here to work. residents shaken and confused by the overnight disaster. >> i thought it was perhaps like a really low-flying, maybe a military jet, perhaps a small earthquake. you wake up, and you see how quickly the bridge came down, and it's like, i mean, was this

thing held up with toothpicks? >> reporter: with a fixture of their community now gone, all that's left for them to do is hope for a miracle. >> for 47 years, that's all we've known. so this is not just, not just unprecedented from what we're seeing and what we're looking at today, it's heartbreaking. >> and our thanks to tom for that report. in pennsylvania, five people, including an infant, died in a car crash in fayette county. witnesses tell local yeedmedia the driver crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed head on with a semi-truck. a second car was struck in the accident. both people in that vehicle and the semi-truck driver sustained injuries. the accident is under investigation. we're learning more about those raids on sean "diddy" combs' properties this week. three forces familiar with the matter say police found several firearms during searches of houses in los angeles and miami. another source tells nbc news

that the rap mogul also known as diddy, is the subject of a federal investigation and that several people have been interviewed in relation to allegations of sex trafficking, sexual assault, drugs and guns. diddy's lawyer in a statement condemned law enforcement actions as quote agross overuse of military-level force and maintained his client's innocence. attorney aaron dyer pointed out that neither combs nor anyone in his family have been arrested or barred from traveling. reproductive rights are once again before the supreme court in a case that could limit access to a commonly-used abortion drug. the justices seeming skeptical of the claims brought by the group challenging that access. nbc's susan mcguinness has the latest. >> what do we want? >> reporter: outside, the demonstrators on both sides of the abortion issue. inside, justices heard arguments in a case that could

significantly restrict access to mifepristone, a commonly-used abortion drug subscribed for decades. >> millions have used mifepristone to safely end their pregnancies. >> re >> we are asking the supreme court to hold the fda accountable for violating the law to the detriment of women's health. >> reporter: the doctors leading the challenge claims the fda did not adequately evaluate the safety risks and wants the high court to limit access even in states where abortion remains legal. >> the risks are extremely minimal, it's extremely safe. >> reporter: the fda says the pill has been safe since i sinc prits approval. justices appeared skeptical of

the challenge the anti-abortion doctors made. >> they're saying because we object to having, to be forced to participate in this procedure, we're seeking an order preventing anyone from having access to these drugs at all. >> reporter: the supreme court is allowing full access to the drug while the legal proceedings play out. susan mcginnis, nbc news, washington. former president donald trump now under a new partial gag order in his criminal hush money case. the presiding judge ordered trump not to talk about witnesses or court staff in the upcoming case. the judge said the order was necessary because past trump statements included threatening and inflammatory language that go, quote, far beyond defending himself against attacks. a trump campaign spokesman said the order violates the constitutional right of the presumptive gop nominee toen ga to engage in core political speech. two pilots are in the
