nerves. many neighbors watch the situation unfold yesterday. around 8:00 a.m., police and chp officers responded to a report from a man who said he had been shot by his mother inside their apartment home on san francisco boulevard near highway 101. police say the woman was in her white suv surrounded by officers when she pulled out a firearm and was promptly shot and killed. her neighbor says the situation hunter. >> it did hit me last night. >> which part hit you the hardest? >> i think just the part about a person been shot and dying in the parking lot. >> reporter: the district attorney says by the way the woman responded the way she did is a focus of the investigation. >> she had an operable firearm,

and everybody knows if you pull a weapon like that, there's a pretty reasonable chance it's going to be responded to with lethal force by the officers. >> is there a lot of body cam footage to look over? >> there is a reasonable amount of body cam footage. i have seen some of it and it will be very important for us in discerning what exactly happened. we're talking about something that happened in a matter of just a few seconds. >> the woman's name is not been officially released. her neighbor who lives right above her and asked not to be identified says her actions are mystifying. >> it does not say real -- he will likely, you know. she's a real levelheaded woman. >> the district attorney emphasizes an officer involved shooting causes a lot of trauma for the people involved, including the officers and their families. he says that is one reason the d.a.s office wants to wrap up the investigation and provide some answers within the next eight to 10 weeks. in pacifica, robert handa, bay area news. now to our microclimate weather, where we are getting a

bit of a break from the heavy rain today before the next storm moves in. let's go outside to a live look at san francisco, san jose, walmart -- walnut creek. it sprinkled in parts of the bay area today and it's going to sprinkle more later on this evening and into tomorrow. let's bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. >> this one coming our way as we had through friday, saturday and sundays forecast will hold heavy rainfall here across the bay area. right now on doppler radar, we have a few isolated pockets. light to moderate rainfall. this one here is moving off toward send martin through 5:33 so watch out on that one oh one quarter if you are traveling from morgan hill to gilroy. watch out for the next storm system out here in the pacific. this one is going to slowly move down the coastline as we head into the upcoming we can but i really think the heaviest of the rainfall is going to come as we had through tomorrow's forecast. we started off with the early timeline at 7:00, most of those rain chances will be at the

it is called vision zero, a plan aimed at reducing san francisco's pedestrian and bicycle traffic destined to nothing. the city marked the 10 year anniversary of that program today but this anniversary comes less than two weeks after a crash killed a family of four after they waited at a bus stop. that deadly crash was still on people's minds at today's event. >> reporter: as dozens of pedestrians and bicycle safety advocates in san francisco leaders gathered on the steps of city hall, joni madero of walk sf paid tribute to the family that were killed when a woman driving an suv hit them while they waited for a bus to go to the zoo. >> before i say a few words, i'd like to take a moment of silence to remember a few moments of traffic crashes. >> a police spokesman says there's no update so the district attorneys office is not made any chart decisions about filing charges against the 78-year-old driver.

the ongoing grief of that crash held in the minds of every speaker today. this is supposed to be an event to mark the achievements of the vision zero plan over the years which includes efforts like the creation of miles of dedicated bike lanes, no right turn zones and neighborhoods and illustrates another neighborhoods and no traffic on jfk drive in golden gate park. the overall theme of this event and from some of the critics of city hall and the audiences that a lot has been completed and achieved in 10 years, but not enough. >> where we have installed protected or separated bike lanes, more people bike but we have done far too few protected bike lanes, truly protected bike lanes in the city, and the

pace at which they're done is too slow. >> reporter: city leaders acknowledge the failure to meet all of the demands of the vision zero plan. director jeffrey tubman made an acknowledgment to transit workers and delivery crews are often exposed to the aftermath of tragic deaths. >> the first responders, who have the emotional burden of being the first ones out there on the scenes and seeing the results of our failure. >> reporter: all city leaders present renew their pledge to try to make san francisco streets safer for pedestrians and bikers. sentencing day for convicted ftx founder sam bankman-fried. he will spend 25 years in prison for the fraud that brought down his cryptocurrency exchange. his parents, both longtime stanford law professors, were at this courthouse for sentencing. the jury found sam bankman-

fried guilty on several counts and prosecutors say he robbed customers of his much is $8 million to make risky bets. he previously signaled he plans to appeal the conviction but did apologize in court today, saying he made selfish decisions that haunt him every day. no word yet on where he will serve his sentence. a lot of questions tonight about why that cargo ship lost power and hit baltimore's cambridge, and while investigators are looking for answers, transportation leaders are looking to get cargo moving out in a not -- the part of -- port of baltimore. more on the economic impact of this horrible tragedy. >> reporter: the impact that struck the heart of baltimore. now rippling across the country as americans grieve the six lives lost. >> to all the families, we are so sorry for this tragedy.

very strange system here. >> reporter: no word yet on how long it will take to clear the collapsed bridge structure from the 50 foot deep water leading to the ports main terminal where an economic engine sits idle. it's not just the port. the loss of the key bridge itself could have a major economic impact. president biden is promising the federal government will pay to rebuild the bridge as quickly as possible, but it is expected to take years. high-priced fundraiser hosted by president biden tonight along with barack obama and bill clinton by his side is happening at radio city music hall. the three presidents will have a conversation with late-night host, stephen colbert, then some of the highest paid guests will have their pictures taken with all three presidents. more than 5000 people are attending, including celebrities like queen latifah and leah michelle. president biden is expected to

raise more than $25 million at tonight's event. a lot of powerful women in the bay area and today, some of them were honored at a special award ceremony in oakland. it was the 15th annual powerful women of the bay award. nine notable women were recognized today. san francisco mayor linda breed was one of them along with oakland city councilwoman and owner of the bay city area cupcake shop. they said it was about empowerment and celebrating strides in education, business, politics and more. >> the women we brought here today, they empower people. they are at the top of their game. oftentimes they talk about the glass ceiling. forget that. this ring right here, we are cracking it open. women are here. we are here to stay. we are changing the narrative so they better watch out because women are in control. >> spotted in the crowd today, the oakland mayor sitting next to oakland's police chief. mayor tau delivered the official welcome for the event. still ahead, bay area county is

whooping cough outbreak in the bay area high school has parents concerned tonight. the marin county health department says there are more than 100 reported cases, 65 of them in a high school. >> she recorded a video of herself breathing and it sounded like i don't know how you could explain it but pretty crackly, like popping noises and so it was pretty rough for her. >> reporter: the 17-year-old describes what her friends recently went through after

contracting a case of whooping cough. rain county health department says 65 kids at the high school have come down with a highly contagious respiratory infection, also known as pertussis, since the summer. >> it stops off, runny nose, maybe fatigue. >> the health department has issued an advisory urging folks to make sure they're up-to-date on vaccinations and to monitor themselves for symptoms. while teenagers and adults usually experience mild cases, the infection can be deadly and babies. >> in infants, it's a very bad cough, and can also cause the infant to stop breathing. they typically end up in the hospital when they become

infected so it can be very dangerous. well they're not requiring masks, schools are directing students to stay home if they are sick. they must remain isolated for at least five days will being treated with antibiotics. >> definitely am not going to be sharing my water bottle or anything like that. >> she does still sound a bit hoarse but she's not contagious anymore. >> health officials say while there have been 113 cases across the county, so far, there have been no cases in infants, and no one has been hospitalized. it is opening day for the a's and it could be their last home opener in oakland.

let's go outside for a live look at the coliseum. first pitch in two hours and you can see thousands of fans are there for tonight's game but many of these people may not go inside. frustrated fans were holding out hope that the a's will relocate to las vegas are packing the parking lot for a block party boycott hosted by a number of fan groups including last dive bar. during the fifth inning, you might start to hear hunting and that is to signal the start of sell the team chance in an effort to send a message to a's ownership. >> unfortunately, ownership is taken all the happiness that opening day brings in put us in a position where we need to still come together as fans of this is how we do it in a safe, fun, crazy way. >>'s fans are also working to raise thousands of dollars to stop public funding of the planned las vegas ballpark.

navigate around that here as we had through the next couple of days. also thunderstorms for your easter weekend forecast. we have the hourly timeline. right now in san jose, after some sunshine today, we do have that cloud cover returning, and it is cool out here right now, just 61 degrees. for the most part, we will stay dry tonight. there is only a slight chance we should get a pop up shower here in san jose. off to the north bay, a little bit of sun mixing in at 57 degrees right now and then the low 50s on the way as we head through 8:00 and eventually, some chilly 40s. there is some spotty shower activity right now on doppler radar primarily down here toward morgan hill and gilroy, this zone here is going to be picking it up by 5:45 tonight than likely holding on here through 6:04 this evening. so, where do we go from here? i wanted to show you that the next storm system is already shaping up, and this one is in the upper levels of the atmosphere, and is just going

to ride down the coastline tomorrow, saturday and also on easter sunday after we get more rain chances with the possibility of thunderstorms in this cold blast of air. the timeline here as we head through tonight still keeps it pretty much dry, just a slight chance of pop up showers but here, that next storm system, 7:00 in the morning is right up at the coastline so you will likely start off at least drive for the early commute for the east bay and most of the south bay but then this picks up pretty quickly by 11:00 in the morning, widespread coverage of the north bay and this is where we will get into some extremely heavy downpours right around 2:00 tomorrow afternoon. embedded thunderstorms and someone guess that could get up to 50 miles per hour so that's going to be the worst time to travel tomorrow, right around 1:00 to 3:00. then, this will breakups are scattered rain chances tomorrow afternoon and evening.

rainfall totals with this look a little bit higher, anywhere from one quarter to three quarters of an inch but right now the coastline, also the santa cruz mountains, there is a zone of red here you are seeing that is about 1 inch, maybe a little bit higher so it looks like a stronger punch with the storm system as you move into tomorrow's forecast. we started off here with 49 degrees over the south bay to the east bay, 47 in the north bay, 48, so have that umbrella and jacket. talk about a chilly way to go out, 52 in santa rosa, 56 here in san jose for the end of march. let's move it into easter weekend. by saturday morning, the chance of thunderstorms rolling in. we stay with scattered thunderstorms chances into the afternoon. by easter morning, when you are trying to get those egg hunts underway at this point, it looks dry mixed with sun and clouds but then we see some thunderstorm chances move back in by easter afternoon, so
