the u.s. and israeli officials amid continuing calls for a cease-fire in gaza. this is "today in the bay." thanks for joining us on this monday morning. i'm laura garcia. not really. it's april fool's day. i'm kris sanchez. >> you almost got me. >> that's because you're sleepy. i've got a couple of inches on her. >> that's true. good morning, i'm marcus washington. mike has you covered with what's going on with those traffic commutes this morning. first, let's start out with the april fool's forecast. i don't know if it's going to be real or a surprise. >> well, i'll just tell you what's real and you have to be really awake and aware to get started and really catch those april fool's jokes. so i'm going to help you out this morning. it's going to be in the mid-40s as you step out. it's a cool start. we have a light wind and things are calming down from all of the craziness we had over the weekend.

in cupertino we're starting out with upper 40s at 8:00, but at noon it is 63 degrees. a nice little warm-up as we go throughout the day, with temperatures in the upper 60s there. low 70s for the south bay, with san jose hitting a high of 73, concord also 73, and 75 today in santa rosa. we'll talk about more changes ahead. mike, you're hearing about a crash on the peninsula. >> i am. this is our camera in palo alto, university looking north. right around this area approaching marsh, we hear about a crash. we do see a little clustering of lights. no flashing lights yet. we'll track that portion of the peninsula. there's slowing on our sensors. off the dumbarton bridge, that may be a factor. no slowing on the span. the slowing is on southbound 880 approaching tennyson. there's a build toward the san mateo bridge. same for this area, off the dublin interchange, we should see more traffic. but because it's spring break for a number of school

districts, those will rotate around the bay for the next few weeks where we'll see lighter traffic. a couple of incidents out of the altamont pass. no major issues. i'll show you the backup at the bay bridge. you might be surprised. back to you. >> thank you. starting today, thousands of fast food workers in california are getting a raise. "today in the bay"'s bob redell joins us live from outside a mcdonald's restaurant in dublin. it is a significant increase. we're talking minimum wage of $20 an hour. >> reporter: correct. about a 20% pay increase for these fast food workers. good morning to you. this does not apply to all fast food workers in the state. this new state law that goes into effect today only applies to fast food chains that have more than 60 locations nationwide. so obviously that would be your mcdonald's behind me in dublin, kfc, starbucks, subway. according to federal data, this will impact more than 500,000 fast food workers here in

california, who until today averaged around $16.60 an hour, which was only slightly above the state's minimum wage. the new $20 minimum wage for these workers, again, amounts to a roughly 20.5% pay raise. there are exceptions to the new rule. the state has said that restaurants that produce and sell bread are exempt, but not if the doe is pre-made elsewhere. restaurants inside grocery stores are exempt, as are restaurants in airports, hotels, event centers, theme parks and other locations. we spoke to an owner of a roundtable pizza location who is concerned about the increased costs to his business. >> as an owner or employer, you have to have, like, coverage to pay them. if you cannot, you have to shut your door. or they'll lose hours. >> it could have a positive impact of increasing wages where possible in other non hospitality fields. >> reporter: that was the former

director of employment at the development department, who thinks it will take some time to clarify the gray areas in this new law. employees who think they should be paid the new minimum wage but are not, they do have the option to file a claim through the state's labor commissioner. mcdonald's, starbucks, chipotle and other major chains have said publicly that they intend to raise prices for the consumer, but by how much, some economists anticipate by about 5%, others as low as 2%. reporting live here in dublin, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much, bob. a pedestrian is dead after a crash last night in san jose. this happened around 7:40 on saratoga avenue. this is near the harker upper school campus and interstate 280. police are telling us that a man was on foot when he was hit. officers closed saratoga avenue briefly while first responders investigated and cleared the scene.

it's not clear what led up to the crash, but police do tell us the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating. business owners in the oakland community are gathering together in support of one of their own after another boutique was burglarized. if you look at the video on your screen here, you'll see the crime as it's happening. someone forcefully made their way inside a taylor jay store on broadway. the owner says the burglar took at least $20,000 worth of items, including the point of sale system, and a rack full of clothing. even before this, taylor jay said that she had been having meetings with other business owners about safety. >> just being a business owner, oakland has been a struggle. the last couple of years it's been really hard for myself and fellow business owners, and even in the community, people that are afraid for their safety. >> yesterday there was a solidarity rally held near city hall where business owners

echoed the need for more safety. small business owners and community members are calling for the support of local neighborhoods, restaurants and shops. well, just in, the u.s. and israel are expected to participate in a high-stakes virtual meeting. here is a look at the white house where it is about 9:06 this morning. now, "today in the bay"'s brie jackson joins us live from washington. brie, this surrounding a potential ground invasion amid the ongoing war in gaza, right? >> reporter: that's right. good morning. both sides are set to discuss potential alternatives when it comes to the ground assault in rafah. the israeli side of the meeting will include a minister in the war cabinet and israel's national security adviser. the u.s. will likely be represented by national security adviser jake sullivan. now, this all comes as israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu signalled over the weekend that the operation in rafah has been approved and will move forward. it's a move the biden administration has called a red

line. today's virtual meeting comes after an israeli air strike at a gaza hospital killed two palestinians and injured at least 15 on sunday. the israeli military calls the attack a precision strike meant to minimize harm to unsolved civilians, marcus. >> brie, we've been following this story, what's going on with the talks and meetings. i know the virtual meeting that's supposed to happen was originally supposed to be an in-person meeting. what changed there? >> reporter: so the meeting was canceled by netanyahu, the decision comes after the u.s. declined to use its veto to stop a u.n. security council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire in gaza. now, the meeting was originally scheduled for last week. it should be noted that netanyahu underwent hernia surgery on sunday and is recovering. an official tells nbc news israeli officials may still travel to the white house in the coming days to continue meetings in person. >> those meetings, a lot of important information will be

discussed. brie jackson in washington for us this morning, thank you for that update. heavy rain moved across california over the weekend, causing flooding in several areas. if you have a moment to look at your screen, we'll show you this video from montecito near santa barbara. 2 inches of rain fell in the span of one hour. that is a lot of rain in a little time. heavy rain led to flooding, as well as rocks and mud sliding onto local roadways. several homes were damaged, power lines came down, trees, and gas leaks were reported throughout the area. >> i was in l.a. this weekend and there was off and on rain. quite a bit of it. in montecito they had nearly 6 inches of rainfall this weekend and there were widespread totals of about 3 to 5 inches of rain. here in the bay area it was a lot less, but we still had our problems, too, in a few spots. a few thunderstorms. now as we take a look back at the last 12 hours and how things

have calmed down, it's going to be a much calmer day and it's going to be beautiful out there, and maybe the chance to get out and enjoy some sunshine if you weren't able to over the weekend. livermore will start out at 46 degrees. a look at our trend throughout the day, we're headed for the upper 60s this afternoon and a few spots into the low 70s today, like san jose, 73 there. 73 in martinez, as well as novato. we'll talk about more of the cool weather returning toward the end of the week. mike is trying so hard to find you lower gas prices. >> we have help at gasbuddy.com. everybody is reporting and you can all read the best we find in the south bay is $4.43 at cupertino car wash on north de anza. in contra costa county, we look to concord tore the lowest, $4.45 at vallejo on willow pass road. and $4.59 at foster city's arco,

east hillsdale boulevard in san mateo county. let's get out to the roadways. mostly green around the bay. lighter volume seems to be the case. some slowing for highway 37 and highway 4. we are watching the bay bridge where we've seen the most change. it's been ebbing and flowing. right now, ebbing. the metering lights still on. there is a build. remember, a lot of colleges have spring break and that may take some drivers off the road. >> i'm sure a lot of commuters are thankful for that. well, san francisco mayor london breed is heading overseas. ahead on "today in the bay," we're going to talk about the trip the mayor is taking and how it could lead to the city getting pandas back in its zoo. it's april 1st, no fooling, and we think maybe today is the day the dow goes over 40,000. let's go out to the futures and see if that's going to help us. not so far. plus -- ♪♪

good monday morning. as we start out the month of april, we are feeling some nice warm temperatures headed our way for the afternoon. in santa rosa, it will go from

low 50s to low 70s, and we will enjoy some sunshine throughout the day. now, things will change. we'll talk about that. how long this weather lasts coming up in a few minutes. and how long the bunching up lasted, not too long in palo alto. north 101 with taillights. we saw a lot of slowing. they've got the disabled vehicle from the center divide to the shoulder. things are moving smoothly once again. we'll show you the other side of the bay where things are starting to slow down a little more. good morning. happy monday to you. it looks like the dow could cross over 40,000 today for the first time. nothing magic happens. there's no prize, other than stocks are up and they keep going up. at&t warned over the weekend much of its customer information had been posted on the dark web. 73 million affected. not clear if it was hackers or a vendor or an accident. our bob redell is covering the big day for fast food workers in

california. the minimum wage in that industry goes up to $20 an hour. today is april 1st. that means it's the first day of the second financial quarter. it also means we get a big jobs report at the end of the week. april 1st is april fool's day, which used to be a big deal in high-tech. a lot of companies would make silly announcements and sometimes those went really wrong, which is one of the reasons they don't do it anymore. google was being totally serious when it announced gmail on the 1st of april, 2004, but nobody took them seriously. so gmail is 20 years old today. shares in tesla dropped 7% after elon musk announced the company would file for bankruptcy on april 1st, 2018. completely and totally bankrupt, he tweeted. investors did not find that funny. as for the first quarter, a win. the s&p 500 up 10% in just the first three months of the year. nasdaq up 9%, dow up 5.5%.

bloomberg reports the south bay company rubrik is ready to go public, preparing financial papers for its ipo. the company will likely be valued around $4 billion. rubrik has been working on this for years, waiting for the right time. reddit went public last month to great success. that caught the attention of many tech companies, a sign, perhaps, that investors are ready for the return of the ipo. rubrik, run by a former venture capitalist turned entrepreneur, we don't normally see people move that direction from investor to creator, and we've talked to sinha many times over the years, including on our silicon valley podcast sand hill road where he talked about his journey from poverty in india and bringing his parents with him. >> i can confidently say that we live in a magical country. we sometimes forget how magical it is. when we came to america, my

pandas back to san francisco. china decided to restart its panda diplomacy program last month and she wrote a letter to ask for a panda for the san francisco zoo. we'll see what happens with that. the mayor's trip is planned for later this month. apparently a lot of people listen to beyonce's new country album over the weekend. >> cowboy carter dropped on friday and it's already breaking records. ♪♪ ♪♪ >> it was the most streamed album on spat fie in just one day and the only country album to hold that title this year. cowboy carter has the most first day streams on amazon music. if you haven't checked out the album just yet, it has miley

seeing what's going on. it was changing minute-by-minute. we're starting out with a clear and cool morning. it will be a pleasant afternoon. sunny, with a light wind. tomorrow is looking good. seasonable temperatures. warmer than we typically see for this time of year. for the rest of the week, big drop in temperatures and the rain is coming back. we'll talk about all of those changes in just a bit. if you've been sneezing, wondering what's affecting your allergies, you may be allergic to oak, pine, sycamore trees, and there's a moderate amount of mold sfors floating through the air. we're going to see temperatures in the low 70s and you may be out enjoying the sunshine, breathing in the air. this is your reminder to take the allergy pill before you get going. and then looking throughout the next couple of days, our temperatures warming up tomorrow, this will be the peak of those temperatures. if you've been looking at the

seven-day forecast, you see that things drop off and we're headed back to winter. and it begins on wednesday with gusty winds. rain comes in on thursday into friday. and just in time for our weekend once again, things go very unsettled. it's not going to be the great outdoor weather we like to see. even a reinforcing shot of cool air and a chance of rain from sunday into monday. so between thursday when the rain begins throughout the rest of the weekend, some of our rainfall totals across the bay area could reach over an inch, some of the higher totals along the coastline and some of the hills, about an inch and a half this week. let's take a look at walnut creek. the changes that we'll see with this temperature roller coaster that we have, we're going from a high of 74 tomorrow to only 53 on thursday. it's going to be cool and windy, and still feeling a little winter-like as we go into the weekend. mike, you're starting out with a look right now at

richmond. >> i'm looking at the build because the last 15 minutes we've seen a lot more traffic suddenly at the richmond bridge toll plaza. we see it's really starting to slow over the last couple of minutes in richmond. the bay bridge, we have more buildup, ebbing and flowing, and now finally it's starting to build toward the end of the parking lot. we call this the parking lot as you approach the bay bridge toll plaza. the pattern, pretty standard here through the eastbound, highway 37 and 4 is showing more slowing. and 880, the crash may still be on the shoulder at tennyson and a build toward the san mateo bridge. the a's finally won their first game of the season. next, highlights from the diamond and news from the strip. a big closure moving the team closer to that move to las vegas. and before we head to break, check out this easter fun from the "today in the bay" team over the weekend. kari's kids enjoying some easter eggs.

6:26. welcome back this morning. so the oakland a's are celebrating their first win of the season at the coliseum after facing the cleveland guardians. the outfielder using some power speed to rack up a triple in the first inning. the a's taking the lead early. by the ninth inning the score was tied up at 3-3. third baseman was walked by cleveland. the a's beat the guardians 4-3. the team's first win of the season comes amid the upcoming plans to take the team to las vegas. so tomorrow the tropicana hotel will officially shut down. the sin city handmark closures comes ahead of the planned demolition so the a's can build a $1.5 billion stadium. the a's hope to move in by 2028. the team has commit to do play at the coliseum through this

>> yeah, today it starts out cool, but it will warm up quite a bit. maybe a bit of a shock compared to the weather we had over the weekend that was changing hour by hour. now things are quieting down. we're starting with temperatures in the mid-40s. it is a cool morning, but all clear. as we take a look at walnut creek, we will have a significant warm-up, going from upper 40s at 8:00 to a noontime temperature of 65, and 70 later today. low 70s as we take a look at some of our south bay communities, as well as the north bay. it's going to be a nice one, and we'll talk about the changes ahead throughout the week. >> thank you. you know, this morning we are learning more about the victims of a plane crash in truckee and the impact they made to entrepreneurs here in the bay area. >> "today in the bay"'s ginger conejero saab is live in palo alto. ginger, silicon valley venture capital firm upwest is confirming this morning that one of the victims was one of their own, sadly.

>> reporter: that is correct, kris, marcus. they did so over the weekend. their office is behind us. they're based in palo alto. upwest is a venture capital firm that funds israeli founders who want to break into the u.s. market. one of the victims that was lost over the weekend did just that. he changed the course for entrepreneurs. this is an entrepreneur he worked closely with. he shared this photo with our colleagues at kcra. you can see him in the air alongside investor liron petrushka, who he says loved to fly. liron and his wife naomi were the victims of a fatal plane crash in truckee saturday evening. now, more than sharing his love for flying, petrushka helped companies get off the ground. petrushka invested in the company envy in 2011. >> it's a big loss for us, for

our community in the silicon valley. it's big shoes to fill. i hope that all of us will keep on supporting the next generation of funders like he did. >> reporter: upwest also writing in a social media post, liron left a huge imprint on the lives of many of our founders and is remembered for his unwavering commitment to their journey. his honest advice, integrity and empathy exemplify the journey we took as founders and investors along the way. the ntsb and faa are investigating the crash that happened just before 7:00 on saturday night. it took off from colorado in the afternoon. investigators say the single-engine plane was trying to land at the truckee tahoe airport when it crashed onto union pacific railroad tracks near a neighborhood. a witness says the crash was so intensity caused their house to shake. now, the ntsb is asking for the public's help in their investigation. if there is someone out there

that has surveillance video that may lead to some answers in this investigation, and also for the three boys that the couple leaves behind. back to you. >> such a loss. ginger conejero saab this morning for us, thank you. well, happening now, hundreds of thousands of fast food workers showing up for work this morning are going to be making more money. "today in the bay"'s bob redell joins us live from dublin. bob, this pay raise is tied to a new state law. >> reporter: correct, and we're talking about a significant pay raise, as much as just over 20%. $20 minimum wage, pay raise for workers who work at certain fast food restaurants, namely restaurants that have locations, at least 60 locations through the united states. that would be places like the mcdonald's behind me, pizza hut, kfc, starbucks, for example. >> so minimum wage workers always looking for a bit of a boost. how many workers are going to

feel the benefit of this pay raise? >> reporter: well, kris, according to federal data, we're talking about more than 500,000, half a million fast food workers here in the state of california, who until today, averaged around $16.60. so now starting today, they will get that $20. that $16.60 was just slightly above the minimum wage mandated by the state for all workers. the $20 represents a 20.5% pay increase. >> so there are exceptions and there's been so many confusion about this, bob. talk about what the exceptions are. >> reporter: well, the state has said that restaurants that produce and sell bread are exempt, but not if the dough is pre-made elsewhere. also, restaurants inside grocery stores are exempt, as are restaurants in airports, hotels, event centers, theme parks.

we spoke to an owner of a roundtable pizza location who is concerned about the increased cost to his business, worried that this could shut down some restaurants or lead to fewer hours for employees. >> i mean, it does affect bigger chains, they're making profits, too. so it is all a balancing act. thank you, bob. well, santa clara valley health care is preparing for a systemwide nurses strike. it's expected to last three days, starting tomorrow. now, the picket lines will be at all three of the county's hospitals, o'connor hospital in san jose, st. louise regional in gilroy, and valley medical center. nurses are calling for increases to staffing, pay, benefits, and security. santa clara valley health care says that it has spent $20 million to cover the strike and it's bringing in more than 1,000 contract nurses. some patients' appointments have been rescheduled until after the

strike. santa clara valley health care says that it has been generous with the terms in a new contract. well, a commuter alert for people along the central coast. this is because authorities are telling us that drivers need to avoid highway 1, this is after part of the road collapsed. it happened saturday as the heavy rain moved through that area. now, the collapse is near rocky creek bridge, about 17 miles south of monterey. at this point it's unclear when the highway will be repaired. caltrans says the highway is closed but the chp will be escorting residents who show proof of residency in that area. california state parks have temporarily closed all of the parks in big sur for day use and camping because of that road closure. we will have that full list, as you can see on your screen. you can see all the closures. now, officials say that they want you to avoid camping in that area. but if you do have reservations, you will receive a full refund. >> some of those reservations

are so hard to get. bummer. >> you have to get them so far in advance. and to get there and it's canceled. it's definitely understandable with the conditions there. we had such heavy rain, in that area about 2 inches over the weekend. as we can see looping back the past 12 hours, things have quieted down. there were some spots that had really powerful thunderstorms and heavy rain moving through. as wer stepping out the door in fremont, it's in the upper 40s. it is a light wind as of now. we have a cool morning that will lead into a very mild day, a significant warm-up coming in with the high temperatures in much of the north bay headed for the low to mid-70s. we're up to 71 in dublin today, as well as fremont, san jose, 73 degrees, and we'll see upper 60s and low 70s up and down the peninsula. now, tomorrow it's even warmer. it's going to give us a little bit of a taste of late spring, early summer, with some spots in the upper 70s.

so we'll talk more about that and the cooldown that follows. mike, there's been a lot of changes on the bay bridge this morning. >> the backup was filling all the lanes in, i pointed out the parking lot. it's eased up again, and it's starting to fill in once again. traffic volume is not what you might expect. some colleges will last week off, some have this week and we know high schools and elementary schools rotating over the next few weeks. we will see changes to the morning commute patterns. typical pattern, lighter than usual slowing, despite a couple of crashes and issues, incidents on 680 through walnut creek. no major slowing for the freeway. 680 northbound, it's opposite your commute, no slowing shows up. and the crash south 880 at tennyson cleared. there may be a little more slowing through hayward. back to you. >> thanks, mike. so should you buy or should you keep renting? ahead on "today in the bay," we talk about one expert about the

a republican congressman says the impeachment effort against president joe biden is getting nowhere. >> scott mcgrew, representative don bacon says the committee investigating the president's crimes found no crimes. >> right, no high crimes and misdemeanors. that is the bar you've got to reach if you're going to impeach. don bacon making those comments on "meet the press" on easter morning. >> right now the lawyers on the committee i talked to say there's not a specific crime, and you need that for a high crime or misdemeanor. i think the investigation merited an investigation to put the facts out, let the public look at it and make a determination. so let's put the facts on the table. when i talked to the lawyers on the committee staff, they say at this point there's not a specific crime that's been committed. >> the impeachment committees were put together authorized by

then speaker of the house mccarthy, who was trying to hold on to his job. he did not. replaced by speaker johnson, of course, who himself is facing pushback over his cooperation with democrats and a rumored plan to put a bill to support ukraine to a vote. bacon said it's possible that johnson could also lose his speakership. >> it's possible. i'm not going to deny it. we have one or two people that are not -- they're not team players. they would rather enjoy the limelight, the social media, and the fact is, with a one-seat majority, and we'll end up with a three or four-seat majority after special elections, but it's a very narrow majority. >> bacon, along with some other traditional republicans, support aid to ukraine as it fights to oust the russian army from its territory. other news, the prosecution in the donald trump hush money case in new york is asking the judge to broaden his gag order to

include his own family. trump continues to attack the judge's daughter online. the gag order currently restricts trump from talking about witnesses, potential members of the jury and court staff. trump is free to criticize the judge and the prosecutor, and he does. trump's first posting on easter morning was happy easter to all, including those many people i completely and totally despise. looking ahead, mr. trump has until thursday to post that $175 million bond in the other new york case, reduced from more than $450 million. now, he still has to pay the $450 million if his appeal is denied. a congressman from michigan is walking back comments he made at a town hall meeting some weeks ago that were caught on tape. he said gaza should be treated like hiroshima or nagasaki. >> we shouldn't be spending a dime on humanitarian aid, it should be like nagasaki and

hiroshima. >> someone posted it to social media saying, listen and share. representative tim wahlberg of michigan said in a statement he was using a metaphor to show that israel and ukraine should end their wars quickly in order to avoid further bloodshed, not that israel should use nuclear weapons on gaza. though he maintains people in gaza should not have any kind of humanitarian aid. those of us trying to make it in the bay know that it is more expensive to buy a home than rent. but new data shows by just how much. new numbers from realtor.com show that in february the last data available, paying rent in san francisco was 96% less expensive than buying, compared to monthly mortgage payments. when it comes to san jose, the difference was nearly 87% less expensive. i spoke with the economic research analyst for realtor.com, hanna jones, who

wind and warmer tomorrow. much warmer than we usually see for this time of year. midweek we'll have a big drop in temperatures. it's going to become windy and eventually rain will be coming back. you'll check that out with our microclimate at the bottom of the screen. as we are seeing the sun rising this morning, it is a beautiful start. we're already noticing the days are getting longer, so at 9:00, our temperature in san francisco will be at 53 degrees, we're headed for the mid-60s for today. definitely warmer than it was over the weekend. as you make your way inland, our highs today will reach into the low 70s, so it's going to be very nice and spring-like and warmer tomorrow, with livermore reaching a high of 75 tomorrow afternoon, and 73 in napa. we'll be in the mid-60s along the coastline and in san francisco. but then on wednesday that's when those temperatures start to dip, and some of us may only make it into the low to mid-60s. we're going to have a cold front coming in, some gusty winds, and

it looks like the rain holds off until thursday. but just in time for the weekend, we have cooler weather, off and on rain possible, and another reinforcing shot of cool air on sunday into monday. so the two days that we have of the warmer temperatures, we better enjoy it because we are going to see a lot of changes. and during the time that we do get some rain, it could total for most of us about an inch and a half, most of us getting about a half inch of rainfall to an inch. but that's coming over the course of the middle to end of the week. we do have sunshine and warm weather today and tomorrow. mike, you were looking at a crash on highway 92. >> yeah, 92, meaning the hayward side of the san mateo bridge. we were looking at the san mateo bridge itself, some flashing lights, but no slowing. there may be a disabled vehicle in the service area. it's moving smoothly. the issue here, i was concerned about a crash at the transition off the nimitz. it's moving better there, as well as the rest of the bay. a little build for the south bay. i'll show you the bay bridge

6:57 this morning. welcome back. we are moving you forward with a look at our top stories on "today in the bay." >> we now know more information about the couple killed in a truckee plane crash. upwest, a venture capital firm, identified the couple as liron and naomi petrushka. they posted this photo on facebook today. they say he has worked for that company since 2012. the crash happened just before

7:00 on saturday. investigators say the single-engine plane was trying to land when it crashed into railroad tracks near a neighborhood. it's unclear where the plane crashed. investigators say it took off from an airport in colorado saturday afternoon. the faa and ntsb are investigating. a pedestrian is dead after a crash last night in san jose. this happened around 7:40 on saratoga avenue near the harker school and interstate 280. police tell us a man was on foot when he was hit. officers closed saratoga avenue for hours while first responders investigated and cleared the scene. it's not clear what led up to the crash but the driver stayed and cooperated with police. starting today, some fast food workers in california will see a significant jump in pay. a new state law raises the minimum wage for fast food workers at some chains to $20 an hour. these are chains with at least

60 locations nationwide. according to federal data, this will impact more than a half million workers in california. the state has said that restaurants that produce and sell their own bread are exempt, but not if the dough is pre-made elsewhere. restaurants inside grocery stores are exempt, as are those in airports, hotels, event centers and theme parks. mcdonald's, starbucks, chipotle and other major chains have said publicly they intend to raise prices because of this. let's look at that forecast today. nice sunrise. >> it's a beautiful start to the day. it's going to be a nice day. temperatures in the low 70s. a big warm-up from over the weekend. it gets even warmer tomorrow. then take a look at the trend toward the end of the week, as rain comes back. we'll have temperatures only in the upper 50s. a lighter commute. san jose state is on a spring break. we are looking at the bay bridge, an easy drive. just starting a build again. it builds up, then eases up, so
