loss. president biden saying in a statement he's outraged and heartbroken by the deaths, calling it a tragedy and pointing out this is not a stand-alone incident involving the death of aid workers in gaza and that israel has not done enough to protect aid workers there, adding he spoke with his friend jose andres yesterday and conveyed his deepest condolences for the courageous aid workers killed. the national security council spokesman, john kirby, also saying yesterday, that more than 200 aid workers have been killed in this conflict, making it one of the worst conflicts for aid workers in recent history. the chief of staff of israel's defense forces releasing a video message, saying the strike was not carried out with the intention of harming wck aid workers. it was a mistake that followed a misidentification at night during a war in very complex conditions. it shouldn't have happened. a sentiment echoed by many this morning, jessica. >> really hitting home as

many palestinians are starving. voters sent a strong message in the democratic primary last night. a group protesting the response to gaza, urging people to choose uninstructed on the ballot. more than 45,000 voters chose that option. that is about 8% of the vote. meanwhile, former president trump visited battleground wisconsin yesterday. he held an event in michigan, trying to rally support in those important midwest swing states that he just narrowly lost to president biden last time around. for more on this, we have nbc's brie jackson joining us live. brie, trump may be in the midwest, but his message is really all about the southern border right now. >> reporter: that's right, good morning, jessica. so the trump campaign did not call their event in michigan a rally. instead, they promoted this as mr. trump delivering remarks about, quote, biden's border bloodbath. the speech criticized the rolling back of some trump-era border policies.

mr. trump highlighted violent crimes that have been blamed on border policies and referred to migrants as animals. >> the democrats say please don't call them animals. they're humans. i said no, they're not humans. they're not humans. they're animals. nancy pelosi told me that. please don't use the word animals when you're talking about these people, i said i'll use the word animal, because that's what they are. >> reporter: the dnc paying for these billboards there in michigan. later, donald trump held a rally in wisconsin where he repeated misleading claims about winning the state. mr. trump did win in wisconsin back in 2016. but in 2020, he lost to president biden by more than 20,000 votes. overnight, wisconsin voters did approve two republican-backed ballot measures, which will change how elections are run in the state. one measure bans the use of private donations for the administrative side of elections.

and the other rule narrows the definition of an election worker. supporters say they want to limit outside influence on their elections, while critics say these rules are based off of false claims and they will only create new hurdles for the elections this fall. >> as if we couldn't have more new hurdles, brie, thank you. a city official in oklahoma with ties to white nationalists has been oust netherlands a re ousted in a recall vote. blevins lost to patterson. patterson is a republican, but even prominent democratic activists also celebrated her victory over blevins. newly-released police video is shedding new light this morning on what police are calling a shootout that killed an unarmed teen back in 2022. that shooting now being investigated by the california

justice department. we do want to warn you here that some of these images are reveal really tough to watch. according to the san bernardino sheriff's offense, at the time, savannah graziano had been dead kidnapped by her father after he allegedly killed her mother. video shows the chase with deputies and his truck. an officer is heard telling savannah to get out of the car and come toward him. she takes several steps, pauses and then moves toward police again. other officers are then seen shooting the teenager just as she appears to be surrendering. her father was also killed. so the video appears to directly refute initial claims by police that the teen was wearing tactical gear and a helmet. the sheriff'soffice did not comment on the video on tuesday, citing the doj investigation. now to baltimore where

complex work is under way to respond to the bridge disaster. the navy is now sharing images of what the wreck hajj is loo wreckage is looking like underwater. >> reporter: the images provide the first view yet of the francis scott key bridge resting on the bottom of the water. >> the wreckage has been completely collapsed. some people use the term pancaked. >> reporter: 3d shows the razor-sharp metal. the water itself so cloudy and dark divers can only see a foot or two in front of them. shining an underwater light only reflects back like a snowstorm. making f making photos or video nearly impossible. >> that's making it very difficult to even determine where to cut how to cut. it's very dangerous for our divers to be able to go into this area.

>> reporter: above water, salvage teams have been using torches to cut and remove massive chunks of the bridge, some weighing 200 tons. as the coast guard has opened two small channels, mostly for tugs and barges involved in salvage operations. the massive scale of the cleanup coming into focus. two disaster offices open for local businesses threatened by the disaster, as the governor presses corporate america not to give up on this region's critical economic artery. >> and so making sure these businesses know that we need them. we want them, and they have to stay here in the port of baltimore. >> reporter: four workers remain missing in the water. inclem inclement weather and conditions have made it difficult to return. a storm system battered much of the south and the midwest. a family in kentucky was trapped

inside a home. thankfully, they were able to escape. and high winds knocked a student off their feet and blew a semi truck right off the road. tornados ripped across parts of the state as well as oklahoma and illinois, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. and an indiana woman somehow walked away without a scratch after the storm shattered every window in her car. this morning, millions along the already-soaked eastern seaboard are bracing nor for impact as t brunt of the storm marches east. >> it was quite an active day yesterday with a dozen tornados reported. today we're waking up to still a tornado watch in effect with some of those thunderstorm warnings and tornado warnings as well. the line of thunderstorms working across the southeast, really causing some problems. we're going to likely see that same area be impacted by strong storms as the day goes on. we've also got levee rain across the northeast. great lakes are dealing with snowshowers. and some of that is going to be here for a couple days.
