tonight, more stories are emerging from taiwan. one of the first flights, first earthquake survivors arrived at sfa. he talked to passengers who were there with that quake hit. so, tom, what are they telling you? >> good evening, just, they are telling us what you would expect to hear, from that. they were really scared, they never felt anything like it, they are counting their blessings tonight that their loved ones are okay. >> passengers on china airlines flight arrived at sfo at 7:00 sharp tonight, some of them still shaken by the experience of writing up the big one. two who talk to us said they were home with family in and near taipei city when it happened without warning. >> because i live on the 22nd floor. it is really horrible. yakima all of the things fell down. yeah. but unfortunately all my family are sick. >> i was not at the center of

the earthquake, but it was definitely a little terrifying. >> reporter: jennifer was in her building, and after checking with immediate family she began to worry about loved ones closer to the epicenter. >> i had a friend at the epicenter, but i was able to check in with them, they are good. >> you are shooting your show today? >> reporter: danielle chang, who was born in taipei and grew up in palo alto experienced it today too. >> we were here right at the earthquake hit. >> she was filming an upset for her pbs series asian culture on the scene, when the shaking began to occur. >> reporter: initially it was pretty terrifying, the rumbling was unlike anything i had ever experienced in the area earthquake. >> reporter: the shaking, more violent than the area's 1989 earthquake, she says, and her family and friends back home in new york city and in the bay area worried about whether she was affected by it. >> my phone was blowing up with

for a car went right through it. just after 1:00 this afternoon a tie korea on valencia street. they say it started with a possible road rage incident that caused the driver to lose control and then slammed into the restaurant. luckily no one was hurt, the driver took off before police arrived. the car was later found a few blocks away. so far, no rest have been made. a cyber attack has been causing issues in two bay area hospitals. northbay health says it has impacted hospitals in vacaville since monday. patients told our sister station, sacramento, that they have been trying to call the hospital for days, not able to get through. >> when they are feeling good this morning, so, i tried to call them, try to get on their website and couldn't get through, thought it was my internet. i probably called about four or five times, still couldn't get through, so i just decided to try to get seen. >> northbay health says all urgent care clinics are open and accepting all emergency cases. all nonemergency surges a surgery so, they say they are

working to fix the issue and trying to investigate that hack. the race for mayor of san francisco just got more crowded and very spicy. tonight, longtime supervisor, erin peskin confirmed to us, he will run to unseat mayor, london breed. he says his years of experience will serve him well. >> i have a 24 year of career service bringing people together , moving san francisco forward, i have legislative experience that i want to harness that to address the problems that are affecting san francisco on a positive note >> and quick to respond, your breed's reelection campaign manager releasing this fiery response to aaron peskin's may oral run. they say aaron peskin is synonymous with intimidation, dysfunction and literally moving san francisco backwards. if you could go into a lab and construct an individual to

signatures on sign their ballot and then voters get a chance to correct that ballot. well, someone corrected their on time in san mateo county and that was the difference here. >> it is unheard of, it is unprecedented. >> reporter: assembly member, evan low, is the county supervisor, josie midian, are tied for 2nd place california's congressional district 16 race to replace an issue. here's how it would have worked. the top two candidates from the primary election move on to the november election. you know former san jose mayor, sam liccardo will be on the ballot, but simitian and low both received 32,000 votes. they received parts of santa clara and san mateo county's. both oh low voter turnout. >> a lot of people decided to pass on any one of them, anyone of them could be the difference , had they chosen to vote. >> reporter: during an election, county sometimes received ballot that don't have a signature or the signature

does my not match the one they have on file. so those ballots go through a valid curing process where they have a chance to fix the issue. in san mateo county, they can do so within the 30 day certification period. back we are doing that only up to yesterday, when we received one ballot at about 3:45. that was the last ballot we received, and we reported it today and that was about that certify the election. >> what happened now? this is still an official tie. the results have to get certified and reported to the secretary of state tomorrow, but there could be three candidates on the november ballot. or, low or simitian could request a recount, which they would have to pay for. >> one thing we might consider, they ask me, but they might consider splitting the cost. there's a lot to gain by letting-- with two instead of three. with two you need a majority, with three unit a plurality,

oakland officials at the oakland coliseum, but the rob mayeda by told us after that meeting that they are far from an agreement. now, sutter health park in sacramento is currently home to the giants tripoli affiliates, the river cats. it is a much smaller stadium than the oakland coliseum, and move out of the bay area could cost rob mayeda five $67 million a year in annual broadcast revenue. more changes for the union square area, no more north face. we were day high-end luxury retailers taking its place. bulgari will be moving into the 9000 square foot space in san francisco. north face just closed a few days ago. they are currently located at 200 stockton street, which has signed a long-term lease for that new location. okay, just in, no billion- dollar jackpot winner. after tonight's powerball drawing. that means you have another chance, however, there were two

>> take a look, talk about a stinky eyesore. los angeles is bringing in some big-time equipment to try and clear this home. covered with mounds of trash, plastic bags, and other garbage, neighbors are dealing with rodent and insect infestations, and a very unpleasant odor. so, the mayor of l.a. ordered city crews to start cleaning this thing up. this property, but neighbors say it has been a long time coming. questions remain about how it got so bad. they say they have been pressuring the city to do something about the trash for more than a year. this is right off ellie's melrose avenue.

from stop signs. they say a minor was driving this black camaro ramming into a white pickup truck, killing the driver. investigator say the young suspect ran off, but they did arrest him hours later. >> there is enough evidence collected to tie him to the vehicle. >> i feel very terrible. >> the san jose mayor says the city will replace that intersection with a roundabout. construction is set to start next year. >> there's a fight between san mateo county and the city of millbury. it was presented before a judge today. last year the county entered into a contract to buy the lucky to in. the plan was used state project home funds to converted into housing for the homeless, however, the city is suing the sale. it argues the county needs to put up the project for ballot vote. a judge heard arguments from both sides today and decided not to make a decision at this

point. >> it sounds a bit unusual, but man's this is part of an innovative new plan to keep covid at bay. alameda county health leaders are using dogs to detect covid. the dogs can sniff out the virus. health leaders say using dogs is an innovative way to help covid from spreading to high- risk populations like nursing facilities. >> the dogs have been trained to identify volatile organic compounds associated with covid 19. they are able to do 300 people in 30 minutes which is a much faster way than doing antigen test. they worked closely with their trainers and if they identify covid they sit down and wait separate one with trainers to make sure, and then they follow up with the antigen test. >> today, two labradors demonstrated their skills in alameda and no cases of covid were detected during that test run. >> we love those thoughts. let's bring in our chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri to talk about the rain.
