5:31 pm
this case gained national attention, and now the 69-year- old davis was sentenced to death in 1996. his lawyers are arguing that in 2022 california law invalidates his sentencing enhancements for prior felony convictions, entitling him to a full resentencing. prosecutors argue though that the law doesn't apply to his death sentence. richard allen davis is scheduled to be in the courtroom tomorrow. a traffic stop turned into a major drug bust in the south bay. police say it started back in november when police pulled over joshua jordan in san jose and found drugs in his car. that launched a four-month investigation, which ended last month when they arrested jordan and jonathan for selling drugs on the dark web. investigators say that the men, they were receiving cryptocurrency. >> and the dark web, it's a
5:32 pm
dangerous place. and we don't know where they are from and what age they really are. but one thing we do know is that our detectives did a great job apprehending these suspects. we know that they were behind bars. they are out of business. and i guess that the secrets are no longer on the dark web. >> both men were booked into the santa clara county jail. they do face several charges including narcotics trafficking. a confrontation at the lockheed research campus in sunnyvale. it happened between a man and a group of pro-palestinian demonstrators. this morning around 6:30 a.m. you can see the man drive aggressively through the crowd there before getting out of his car and threatening the protesters with a knife. you can then hear him tell those people to get out of his way, so he can get to his job. he is also heard asking them, "do you want to die while waving that knife." we reached out to sunnyvale police, but we have not yet heard back. now the group at lockheed martin to protest weapons being supplied to the israeli

5:35 pm
dear life before they finally gave up. she was able to drive to the police station. >> i'm so grateful to be alive and unharmed. i have the tiniest cut. literally that is the major damage at the end of the day because i'm happy to be physically okay. >> and i appreciate even's comments. >> reporter: the incident have gotten millions of views. >> they went absolutely great and that they have happy music, and then that is such a position. >> reporter: sharing her story has been therapeutic, but she wants others to learn from it. >> and just be cautious and be so cautious and careful and mindful of where you are putting yourself and your things, who is around you. keep your head on the swivel at all times. >> reporter: and that purse is full of glass while she's happy she still has it as she knows

5:38 pm
activity could help super charge the hurricane season. >> and our oceans have never been hotter. the university of miami highlights that in the region, where hurricanes often form, temperatures, they are already at july levels in april. >> but our oceans aren't just hot at the surface where they are getting warm at much greater depths. it is known as ocean heat content. and that is risen by the oceans rising more than 90% of the heat created by human burning coal, oil, gas. as the water will get warmer, even deeper, that you could think of that being an even bigger fuel tank. allowing hurricanes to strengthen dangerously fast, like hurricane ian or hurricane otis. tropical storm one day, category 5 hurricane the next. nearly without warning. one of the biggest fears that i am as a hurricane forecaster has had to internalize over the last 15, 20 years. it's the fact that we are
5:39 pm
seeing more of these tropical storms undergo these rapid intensification cycles. >> reporter: and he's the hurricane specialist for nbc miami. he's worried about the combination of unnatural ocean heat with the natural shift to la nina. >> so now all these things are pulling in the same direction towards what could be the hyperactive hurricane season in 2024, along with extremely powerful hurricanes. the catastrophic ones that we need to be concerned about. >> reporter: along with being stronger, allowing hurricanes to travel farther outside their usual zones more often. last year a rare tropical system plowed through southern california and even northern most maine faced repeated close calls from storms with leaves striking canada. >> the hurricanes that are coming from the tropics are able to sustain their intensity, higher up into northern latitudes, where you wouldn't expect the hurricanes to be as strong. so people along the eastern seaboard from the mid-atlantic,
5:40 pm
all the way to new england, they are having to start to think about threats that they wouldn't have thought about in the past. because of the changing climate. no matter how the hurricane season will play out. one of the goals of these forecasts is to communicate the risk, so you can prepare now. in new york, i'm national climate reporter, chase cain. you might want to sweep your next vacation rental for cameras. i'm consumer investigator christopher gamora, we'll show you how next. we'll show you how much more this rain has left out tonight and tomorrow. the solar eclipse, all the details you need to know, so you can plan for what you can see here

here. consumer investigator chris chmura shows us how to spot a vacation rental camera. >> reporter: if you've ever stayed in a vacation rental and had a gut feeling that the host was watching you inside, your gut might have been right. airbnb says historically they have allowed the use of indoor security cameras in common areas of listings, such as hallways and living rooms, but not anymore. starting april 30, airbnb says it is banning the use of indoor security cameras and listings globally. they will still allow cameras outside, except in places like saunas, that will bring airbnbs in line with one of the biggest competitors, vrbo. it says surveillance cameras can't be used inside a property. one exception, smart speakers. they're allowed if they are disclosed. both companies demand hosts disclose them in their listings. and that's the first place you should look for, a security camera in the listing.
5:44 pm
saying no camera is listed. ask the host any way. if you get a cagey answer, you might get your money back. you can take a couple steps to scan. you can buy a hand held camera detector for $25 to $100. but before you do, read reviews, and figure out if it is going to do what you expect it to do. you can download an app like fing, showing you all the devices on the wi-fi network. you can try to take a house completely offline with no streaming, shut down or disconnect the wi-fi router. talk with the host because the security system or phone line might need that internet access. finally say you find a camera that is not suppose to be in that vacation rental. let the booking company know immediately to investigate. >> okay, good to know especially as we head towards people making their plans. >> absolutely. jeff is here to talk about the weather.

5:47 pm
most of us. although out towards our eastern counties. we could get a few spots around a quarter to half an inch, that will be concord, dublin, right towards livermore. morning temperatures tomorrow. man, you thought it was chilly today. we will go down lower tomorrow morning. start it off in the south bay. 39 in the trivalley. and also dipping down to 38 for the north bay and the east bay right there at 40. temperatures through tomorrow, this is it. 50s. that is all we can give you right here. 56 in napa, 57 in san jose and 55 in morgan hill. but some hotter weather is on the way. we'll show you that in a second and i do want to get in here for the eclipse next monday. we will be able to see some of this, which will start here at 10:14 in the morning. it is a partial eclipse for us. but as the sun, moon, earth align, we should see the sun obscured by about 35%. and we have reached that
5:48 pm
maximum point at 11:13. then this will all end by 12:15. now when it comes to the best path of this totality as we would call it, it will happen from texas right up towards the midwest. so lucky for you that we'll be able to see that total eclipse that we would head into next monday. i promised warmer weather. look at this in san francisco, oh yes. we're going to do it, get back to the 70s by next wednesday and thursday. you'll want it hotter, we're going to deliver it. the 80s are coming in to the forecast here. that'll be the warmest stretch of weather that we have seen so far. >> 80s? >> yeah. i can almost feel the heat coming off right now. >> such a roller coaster. >> that is a perfect way to put it from 58 tomorrow to 83 on thursday. we'll take it. >> good things happen to people who wait. >> i like that. >> and you have to remember that. >> yes. thank you, jeff. here is the gut punch. a sad day for the a's fans. it is happening.
