6:51 am
three-quarters of an inch of rainfall, san francisco a half inch of rain, and san jose three-tenths of an inch of rain fell yesterday. still a chance today, but now we're feeling the chill. and we're in the upper 30s and low 40s. we're at 38 in martinez, about the same in sonoma and in santa rosa, and we're right now at 44 degrees in san jose. so with this cold start, we're also seeing some lingering showers, all the way from the delta extending down to the tri-valley, and we're still getting that snow coming down on mount hamilton, while we're also seeing some rain just off the coast. and we've also seen some thunderstorms there as the storm system spins across the region. it is right overhead. there may be some breaks in the activity and then suddenly these clouds start to bubble up and then we see the rain coming down. that will be the possibility, but it looks like most of the rain is farther for the inland areas, from the east bay to the north bay, and it's only very hit or miss, but the activity may ramp up again this evening.
6:52 am
looking ahead to the weekend, a very quick passing shower on sunday morning, but this should not affect any of your weekend plans. it's just going to be cool and with gusty winds, that makes it feel even cooler, and that chance of thunderstorms and small hail will continue today, as well as snow on some of the bay area mountains. tonight our lows drop down to the upper 30s. if you're going to the sierra, we have about 2 to 4 inches of additional snowfall coming until the winter weather advisory expires tonight. the weekend looks chilly, but it will be sunny, and in time for the solar eclipse on monday. we'll start a warming trend with a clear sky. next week we'll be in the low 80s, if you can believe that. such a big change from what we're seeing right now. but if you hold on a couple of more days, it will be warming up. mike, you saw another traffic break at the berkeley curve? >> and there will be at least one more because the large vehicle, i believe it's an rv or similar sized vehicle is still there blocking your slow lane, so the traffic had to slow.
6:53 am
they brought another tow truck in to help position it. it will not get up to speed quickly, so they'll have to do one more traffic break northbound 880 approaching that berkeley curve. now, over here we're looking at the slowdown because of the traffic building finally out of richmond. we see more traffic and slowing across that span. here is the disabled vehicle across the bay bridge, slow across the richmond bridge. typical friday slowing and lighter than rest of the week, so that's good. happening now, crews are continuing to assess the damage after a portion of the famous bigsby bridge collapse last week. yesterday they marked the first day convoys in and out of big sur were halted because of the weather. they're not expected to resume until tomorrow morning but the monterey county sheriff's office plans to lift the evacuation warning for the area once those convoys are back up and running. and up next, take a look at the stories making headlines for
