breaking right now at five. chaos and clashes. protesters and police facing off on campus at ucla. now the classes canceled as violence and arrests start to mount this morning. and pro-palestinian protests continue at campuses all across the country. and now lawmakers are trying to get involved. a live report from washington on

the action, they say, needs to be taken to bring about change. this is today in the bay. hey, good morning to you. on this thursday. hey, hey, hey, look, thanks for making us a part of your morning. i'm marcus washington, and i'm kris sanchez i'm in for laura garcia. i don't know if you guys saw her instagram story yesterday. i mean, usually she's like silk and that's exactly what she sounds like. but she's watching today in the bay. and we're glad that you are, too. morning, laura. let's take a look at that forecast with carrie and big changes. yeah, we are going to have some big changes ahead for the weekend. today it's the same weather we had yesterday, so it's going to be a pretty nice one. we're taking a live look at the golden gate bridge in san francisco and right now it's 53 degrees. it's all clear. we'll see those temperatures going from low 50s to upper 60s by lunchtime, and it's going to be a really comfortable day, but

still pretty windy as our high heads for 68 degrees, we'll see a high of 75 in oakland and some upper 70s for the tri valley to the south bay. we'll talk about the big drop in temperatures and rain in our weekend forecast in a few minutes, but mike, we already have a crash on highway four out of brentwood. we have here highway four right around fairview. so it's not presenting a major issue, but it was on the grid then just as i prepare this report coming to the studio, we hear about another crash on a highway four. this is opposite your commute. it's eastbound coming into bay point out of concord, and it's on the shoulder. no major injuries for either of those. no major impact to your drive. look at this. green sensors all about even. let's show a little bit of a change out of the altamont pass. and that's pretty typical for the first build. we'll see. back to you. all right, mike, thank you. well, we start out with that breaking news coming out from ucla. this is where chp is moving in to clear out those pro-palestinian protesters from the encampment. now here's a live look at the tense situation which started unfolding around three this morning. we've heard

a lot of shouting. we've heard a lot of flashbangs or something like that. law enforcement removing the barricades. they're removing tents and the gazebos that have been there for days now, and officers throwing those flashbangs, triggering dozens of explosive rounds you might have heard just a few moments ago. now, in some cases, they're also scuffling with protesters who defied warnings to leave or face arrest. our affiliate, knbc, has several reports on the ground at ucla as that dismantling effort gets underway, still locked arm in arm. and it's a matter of how they're going to actually get them to unchain themselves. and one by one, pull them into custody as they continue to try and negotiate with these people. as eddie toast to the right, look at the number of chp officers pulling down the remaining walls of the exterior of this encampment, look at the number of law enforcement. and

when i say law enforcement again, chp lead investigator, leader, agency here, chp officers going in and moving these people out there were busses waiting to haul away the demonstrators as an effort to dismantle the protest began, the encampment was declared unlawful just last night. now a much different scene right here at home in the bay area. here is live. look over at stanford university. the university is threatening protesters with suspension. however, the demonstration along with similar ones at uc berkeley and san francisco state, have not resulted in violence or arrest. but as you just saw there at ucla, that's not the case everywhere. tensions are continuing to boil over amid campus unrest as protests pledge to keep up with their fight. so now congress is getting involved today in the bay's bree jackson joins us live from washington. bree. lawmakers are talking about taking some action. that's right. good morning. so with bipartisan support, the house

did pass a bill last night to expand the definition of anti-semitism for the education department to enforce. but some lawmakers are raising concerns that the broad definition would threaten free speech on college campuses. so the bill's prospects in the senate are unclear. as nationwide protests continue, colleges and universities grapple with how to handle growing tensions over the war in gaza. house republicans got a first hand look at an encampment at george washington university wednesday. we're seeing these protests spring up all across the united states. we're hearing from jewish students that they don't feel safe across the country. there are concerns about outside agitators interfering with peaceful demonstrations. i noticed some of them were students. their faces did look familiar, and there were certainly people there who were

not students. they almost seem like professional burglars, which made it even more scary because they don't have anything to lose. the biden administration says it supports lawful protests and condemns hateful speech. we are also going to call out any type of anti-semitism that we are hearing, that we are seeing the hate pro-palestinian protesters are standing firm. we plan to be here until our demands are met, no matter what domestic and foreign policy challenges taking center stage on campuses and on capitol hill. and in response to the pro-palestinian protests, republicans are also seeking to launch investigations into anti-semitism on college campuses back to you. thank you. bree. again, we are so grateful that the protesters here in the bay area have remained largely peaceful. we'll check in with you later. 506 right now and happening today, maybe more stress than usual for parents with kids on their way to

college today is the deadline to apply for state financial aid today in the bay bob redell live for us outside of one of the east bay high schools out there. and bob, this cap, this is california's edition of the troubled fafsa application, which this year has already added so much stress there for those high school seniors, pretty much everywhere. you are correct. good morning to marcus. if you're, let's say, a senior high school like the one behind me, or let's say you're already in college, you might qualify for state aid like cal grant or middle class scholarship to apply california uses the new fafsa if you're hoping for that state help. today is the last day to push send on that application. now, the rollout of the new fafsa application, as you mentioned, was a debacle. what was supposed to be a simplification of the application process was held up, held up the students financial information at colleges and universities need to decide when

they're trying to figure out who should get financial aid and how much. in fact, some colleges and universities just started getting students financial information. now, months after they usually do. that means a lot of students for whom financial aid can make or break their college dreams. they are now in limbo in the meanwhile, acceptance letters have gone out and the deadlines to accept are looming. we talked with cal state east bay's associate vp for financial aid, who said do not commit until you know what you can afford. if you have not received your financial aid package yet and you are coming to the deadline to decide, what i would suggest that you do is contact your your admissions office to the colleges that you're applying to ask for additional days until you can get all of the necessary information that you need to make the decision. some schools already extended their deadlines because of the fafsa trouble. the fafsa trouble students now have until may 15th to declare

their intention to register at san jose state, ucsf, and uc berkeley. june 1st is the deadline for san francisco state and cal state east bay. while today is the deadline to submit the fafsa application for those state grants i mentioned, you or your students will have until june 30th to submit the application for federal aid reporting live here in dublin, bob redell today in the bay. it's been such a frustrating time. thank you very much, bob. we have some sad new details in a recent east bay home fire. one of the victims now has died from his injuries. this happened eight days ago at 61st and martin luther king way. a total of three men were pulled from that home. a security guard spotted the flames and stopped to help. he pulled one man from the house with the help of two others who had escaped the flames. both of those men are still recovering well. animal cruelty. animal control teams. they are finding a south bay homeowner. this is for

possessing much more than the allowed number of chickens. yeah. police yesterday confirming with officers that they helped execute a warrant. this is at a home on vine and floyd streets in san jose. while following up on that neighbors complaint in the backyard, they were actually able to find some 75 chickens, hens and roosters. the city only allows up to six chickens without a permit. roosters are illegal. homeowner now has one week to remove the birds from the property. it is 510 now. taking a live look over san jose. it seemed like a pretty mild morning, but carrie, we know changes are coming because you've been warning us. yeah, it's coming for the weekend, but we are still able to enjoy the nice weather today and it's a cool start and also kind of mild with our temperatures going from upper 50s at 8:00 in san jose to seeing some mid 70s will be at 75 degrees at noon into the early afternoon. we'll see the

at san rafael. southbound. these taillights head over the hill and eventually across the golden gate bridge without interruption, without slowing. we'll show you how things are shaping up, though. kerry talked about the temps in antioch, and i'm watching the traffic. that's where things tend to start. well good morning. very happy thursday. we get the big jobs report roughly this time tomorrow. amazon said it made $143 billion in revenue in three months, powered especially by its cloud computing. so that's about a billion and a half per day 60 some million dollars an hour that amazon is doing in revenue. tesla stock down for the second straight day after that company laid off most of the people working on its supercharger network. and now we're hearing from college kids who are saying their internships have been canceled. this young man from ohio says he got two messages from tesla in a day. one had his airplane tickets to go to work, and then a few hours later, a notification the internship offer was gone. we reached out to tesla for comment about their internship program.

some of the google employees who are fired after holding a sit in over the war in palestine, have filed a formal complaint with the national labor board. they say their protest was peaceful and non-disruptive, and indeed some of the fired employees say they didn't actually take part in the sit in google says it went over video and other records carefully to identify employees who it says acted in a threatening and disruptive manner. now, the national labor relations board is a bit old fashioned. you cannot obtain a copy of the complaint online, but we have asked that they mail us a copy under the freedom of information act, so we'll have more detail later. the federal open market committee did as expected, left interest rates alone at the conclusion of their two day meeting yesterday. rates have not changed since july of last year. at one point, wall street rallied as chair jay powell indicated it's unlikely they'll raise rates further. but they're not cutting either. we've stated that we do not expect that it will be

appropriate to reduce the target range for the federal funds rate until we have gained greater confidence that inflation is moving sustainably toward 2. so far this year, the data have not given us that greater confidence. now chris and marcus, i learned something this morning reading over the financial reports from pandora jewelry. first of all, they're the largest maker of jewelry in the world. who knew it announced a couple of years ago, would no longer use mined diamonds in its jewelry and instead uses lab grown, which are every bit as much a diamond as the real thing or the thing pulled out of the ground. same carbon structure, same everything. the company says sales are up 10% at a time when other jewelry companies are struggling, and it attributes the decision to go with lab diamonds as one of the factors. now, scientists say they're identical in every way, the way you can tell a real diamond is it's not as nice as the lab diamond because it contains flaws and, you know, yeah, yeah. i mean, they say the jewelers

than 4000 winners golden tickets to stay at the locations over the course of a year. that is pretty neat, but all i want for my airbnb is that it's clean and safe. yeah. and affordable. yeah, yeah. like i have. my bar is pretty low. but if you get the up house, can you, like move it to where you want it right there on the beach i don't know. yeah i think they have a crane is what. yeah. yeah. you can see it's like kind of hanging. that's why it's up. i hope you better take your dramamine, but hopefully, hopefully you don't sleepwalk. oh, yeah. god yeah. interesting. all right, so let's get started this morning with a look at our weather that has been so nice all throughout the week. now we're going to see those temperatures going from low to mid 50s. now to continuing to warm up as we go throughout the day. so we are looking at a cool morning and then headed for a warmer afternoon. our temperatures in the south bay in the upper 70s and low 80s with gilroy today up

to 80 degrees. we'll also see a high of 80 in east san jose. now for the east bay we're up to 80 and walnut creek and concord 75, in hayward. and we'll be in the mid 70s as well for redwood city and in palo alto, 78 degrees, daly city, 66 today and some upper 60s with some gusty winds in san francisco for the north bay, 80 in novato and santa rosa 78 degrees. once again, these are the same temperatures we've seen throughout the week. but as we get closer to the weekend, big changes coming our way from late friday into saturday, we're going to see rain chances return, and some of our early estimates are that we could measure anywhere from a half of an inch of rain to an inch, with those higher amounts near the coastline and in the hills, with cooler temperatures only in the 50s and low 60s, and breezy winds, along with the sierra getting 1 to 2ft of snow. all of that coming down on saturday. so heads up if you're going to the

sierra. we'll start to see that rain coming in for the north bay early on saturday morning, continuing throughout the day, just kind of off and on again with those temperatures only in the 50s and low 60s. and then sunday is a much different picture as we get more sunshine, we're going to see temperatures rebounding into the upper 60s and then upper 70s for the middle of next week, while san francisco will see temperatures only in the mid 50s for saturday winter. like mike, you have one crash that's cleared now. i do, so you have more to track with those changes. i have less to track because the crash on highway four, san marco, has cleared without any incident. so we're looking over here. highway 37 now shows a little slowing. so the start of the morning commute just starting to show itself. we do still have highway four over here at fairview. this isn't a major commute spot, but for locals through brentwood, that is. and note there will be a distraction around fairview for highway four. and again, everything's moving smoothly from south vasco road all the way down to 580 out of the altamont. no problem. miles flowing south. bay and peninsula. all clear. back to

thanks so much for joining us on this thursday morning. i'm kris sanchez laura garcia is off and i'm marcus washington. let's get you started with a look at that forecast this morning. meteorologist kari hall is tracking what we can expect dark and early this morning. but folks out there moving along pretty clear too. yeah it is a clear start. we are also seeing a clear sky across the bay area. the sunshine continues today as we talk about what to expect. this will be the warmest day of the week with some of our valley temperatures in the low 80s, but then for the weekend, we are going to see those rain chances coming in late. and also looking at more off and on rain throughout the day on saturday with a big drop in temperatures as you're stepping out the door in cupertino. we're in the upper 50s. it's going to be sunny once again. all clear throughout the afternoon and temperatures in the mid 70s. and we're also going to see those temperatures in the upper to upper 70s, low 80s for much of the south bay. we'll talk about what's ahead for the weekend. but mike, that commute is looking pretty good

right now. it is. and i took the other angle of the bay bridge you showed from emeryville. we're showing from the city because i'm looking over here toward the toll plaza. more lights. so we'll see those metering lights on. any second. the span moves very smoothly right now, though, and there's a little peek of that sunrise that's great. at the top of the screen, green sensors around, but you see the slowing at the bottom of the screen that is over near. we showed you the crowd building out of oakland. top of the screen. highway 37. more traffic out of vallejo. i circled over on the right highway for both directions. slow around bailey. we know there's alternating lane closures, and so eastbound will have that lane closure for another hour or so. we're looking at no major problems out of the altamont or for any of your usual drives back to you. all right. this morning we continue to follow breaking news out of ucla. take a look at your screen here. this is the escalation of the crackdown on that encampment on campus. the tense situation playing out as the chp moves in to clear out the pro-palestinian protesters who had been camped out there on

campus for days. so they are dismantling that encampment, and it's been happening since three this morning. we have seen law enforcement arresting some protesters. you saw some of the folks with their hands behind their backs, the chp also throwing flashbangs to try to disperse the crowd as well. now, our affiliate, knbc has several reporters there on the ground at ucla, including anastasia olmos, who is in the middle of campus right now. where i am right now is the back of the encampment. right here was plywood. they've taken it and made a new barrier. we'll show you right now, law enforcement, the chp officers, they have made it all the way through the encampment. they are towards the back. and these are the last students that are resisting, as you can see, this plywood, they keep moving as robert was saying earlier, they keep moving anything they can to a barrier between them and law enforcement, as you can see on the other side of that, they've made a line and they keep throwing these flashbangs, which are loud. and, they actually

make your hair fly. they have wind to them right there. and we are seeing some of these protesters exit down the stairs and try to get out before being detained. but there are some that are resisting. as you can see right now, one man is on a megaphone and they are yelling things, profanity. they are yelling at police. we have heard racist comments and we have also heard encouraging comments to each other saying fight for palestine. but as we were watching right now, law enforcement, they've stopped and they have not started to push through and they're just kind of watching them as they build a barrier in front of our eyes. all right. so again, that report coming from ucla, which started clearing out the encampment as of three this morning. now this is what's happening at stanford, a very different scene. that

encampment does continue at white plaza there on campus. but at this point the students have been allowed to stay there. however, stanford university did send out an email letter warning of consequences, warning of suspensions, and perhaps even expulsion and arrest. they also posted that letter there in the encampment so the students know what they're in for. i did talk with a first generation low income student there earlier this week, and i asked him. i was like, are you prepared to be kicked out of school? and he said, you know, that's how important this is to them. so that's what's happening at stanford now. 536 right now, also happening today, a pretrial hearing for the man accused of murdering a tech ceo in san francisco. cash app founder bob lee died a little more than a year ago. and investigators say nima alemany drove him to a secluded area where he then allegedly stabbed him three times. they say the two men were in a dispute over money his sister. also today, the

competency hearing continues for a man accused of driving his family off a cliff on purpose near devil's slide. dharmesh patel is being held without bail last year. investigators say he deliberately plunged his tesla off a 300 foot cliff with his wife and two children in the car and amazingly, everybody survived. the judge is weighing whether patel should be criminally tried or diverted to a mental health program. well, now to decision 2024. the stage officially set in the race to replace house lawmaker anna eshoo. former san jose mayor sam liccardo will face assemblyman evan low election leaders yesterday, confirming those results of the recount. lowe's opponent, joe simitian, also conceded that the final margin five votes. workers recounted more than 180,000 ballots, 16 ballots remain in question yesterday, but those were not enough to move the needle. bottom line is, evan lowe received one additional ballot

for his race and everything else pretty much remained the same. i am incredibly excited about this opportunity to advance to the november election. if anything demonstrated also that every vote counts so true. that's what we've been saying. yeah, secretary of state now has a certified those results, which should happen within the next two weeks while president joe biden is headed to the bay area once again, and he will attend a fundraiser here a week from tomorrow, may 10th, in portola valley at the san francisco home of billionaire venture capitalist vinod khosla. tickets range from $6,600 up to $100,000. there is no word yet on when president biden will arrive or whether he will have any public events. but you know that we're being all nosy about that and asking lots of questions. all right, moving you forward on the push to revitalize downtown san francisco. as we look live at the beautiful city by the bay this morning, it is a new event that is kicking off today to try

to bring hope for struggling merchants. tonight, the city launches its first ever first thursday event. yeah, and today the bay's ginger conejero saab live for us in the city. this morning. and, ginger, it's really still too early to start the party. i mean, some people say that. i say start your own party, but hopefully by this time tomorrow it's something to celebrate. well, it's 5:00 somewhere. i guess. marcus. chris. but hopefully tomorrow there will be plenty to celebrate, including the success of tonight downtown. first thursdays kicks off for the first time later today. it's only been in the plans for about a month now, but organizers are eager to bring a new look, a new feel to the struggling downtown city streets downtown first thursdays or better known as dft, is hoping to turn things around in the area. the goal is to get thousands of people downtown, specifically on second street between market and howard. those are several city blocks and alleys that will be closed off to a big san

francisco street party. it's so sf, as organizers would want you to say, those throwing the event know how to have a good time. they are the event producers behind other popular city events like into the streets, summer of music and sf is a drag now. they will have their work cut out for them. san francisco's downtown has had a challenging wave of retail store closures. dozens of businesses have left the area. the pandemic has also shifted. those coming into the offices in the downtown area, challenging those merchants and small businesses. but tonight is a step towards changing the vibe. there will be music, street vendors as you can hear and feel it already small businesses will also be there and represented. it's a block party to start the weekend early and it is really looking to revitalize downtown. there are high hopes for this event. the party kicks off at five, so if you're working in the area, maybe stick around. if you're not, you can take part in the closest bart station is on montgomery and you can take a

earthquakes will be playing. it will be mexican heritage night, so we are going to see, unfortunately, a chance of showers for that. we'll be tracking that and we'll talk more about that rain. mike, you are looking at a couple of incidents around the bay area. that's right. but first, when we talked about you're talking about activities and ginger and you were talking about first thursday's here. the dance party is on second. that means there's no cars on second going between market and howard. that may shift traffic a little bit. i typically would like to access the bay bridge over at fourth and howard, and that's near that. that might shift traffic a bit. also overnight they're doing some roadwork on the bay bridge like they did last night. and so one of your lanes getting out of the city may be a factor overnight. maybe two lanes actually getting over toward the oakland side. that's again starting tonight. later. remember that sausalito ferry is back in service. we still have a bill that the bay bridge toll plaza, highway 37, though the eastbound construction that's waived off for this weekend because they saw carries forecast about weather back to you see everybody watching five 4240 right now take a listen to

those police officers there with those barricades and tents. they are arresting a number of people there, but they've been able to pull down a lot of those tents and barricades. this is all following a tense standoff overnight. now, officers also throwing flashbangs, triggering dozens of explosive sounds. if you've been listening throughout the morning, you've heard that of course, we will continue to monitor this situation throughout the day. of course, bring you those updates as we get them. well, president joe biden will spend time today with the families of law enforcement officers killed in the week this week, i should say, in north carolina, a score of four officers dead and several others hurt. yeah. yeah, lots. three of those killed were federal marshals. and then you had the one officer from the charlotte police department killed as well, shot as they were trying to capture a fugitive. president biden says they were all heroes. and america prays for them. the justice department says it is heartbroken. vice president harris was in florida yesterday as that state enacted one of the toughest anti-abortion laws in

the u.s, limiting women to six weeks, with certain exceptions. there's also an abortion question on the florida ballot this november, and harris says abortion rights on the ballot consistently bring out women to vote. since roe was overturned, every time reproductive freedom has been on the ballot, the people of america voted for freedom. abortion rights activists also trying to get the question on the arizona ballot on wednesday, the arizona legislature repealed in 1864 law that banned abortion. the governor says she'll sign it in washington, republican marjorie taylor green says she'll push for a vote to get rid of fellow republican mike johnson as speaker next month. she says he works too closely with democrats. it's the right thing to do for america. it's time to clean house and get our conference in order and get ready to support president trump's agenda. now, democrats

in the house say they're ready to vote to keep johnson, even though he's on the other side, which would defeat greene, but also kind of prove her point as well. the new york city police department has released new body cam video from the night they entered that building on the campus of columbia university. columbia's president still coming under fire from the right, even though she's the one who asked police to clear her campus of protesters. and the person that heads up columbia university was a great school. it's been, you know, badly damaged, i think reputationally. but the person that heads it up, a woman she waited so long, she was so weak. she was so afraid. she was so bad that they could have done this with the tents, and it would have gone quickly and no problem. the state department needs to yank the visas of foreign students in these little gaza's and dhs needs to deport them. the justice department should investigate it. the funding sources behind these little gaza's now, there's a push in

congress to force the department of education to adopt the international holocaust remembrance alliance's definition of anti-semitism. those guidelines do not prohibit the criticism of israel, bridge jackson will have more from washington. at the top of the hour. chris all right. thank you very much, scott. it is about 10 to 6 right now. and an ambulance patient is now facing a trip to jail, not the hospital, after authorities say he stole the ambulance during his emergency call with an emt still in the back of the vehicle. it happened last night in santa rosa. police say one paramedic was treating the patient, and that's when the patient jumped into the ambulance and took off. police had to use spike strips to stop the vehicle and arrest the suspect. fortunately the emt was not injured. well, new this morning, a massive effort is underway to help nonprofits on the peninsula. the mavericks community foundation is in the middle of its 24 hour coast side gives online fundraiser. the

donation marathon kicked off at midnight and it's going to benefit organizations in the area now, organizers say that the annual event can help nonprofits who are sometimes lost in the shuffle. we have a saying that we use often around here about a rising tide raises all the boats, and so cozy gives is a great, great way for us to amplify the message of giving here on the coast, but also the partnership amongst these nonprofits. and this is going to represent places from montara to pescadero. now, if you want to donate in person, you can actually. a go to this is new leaf community market in half moon bay from nine this morning until six tonight. i like that market. yeah. and to donate online it's pretty easy to kris. coast side gives dot org as of this morning more than a half $1 million has actually been raised. and since its inception, the foundation says that it has raised more than $6 million for nonprofits. sits on the

think so. if you like the milder mornings and then the warmer afternoons. yes. we are going to see that now as we're making weekend plans. we may have to shift things around a little bit. we are going to see a major storm system for this time of year coming in. so we're going from sunny and warm temperatures inland and breezy winds at the coast to rain arriving late tomorrow night and a saturday with rain, wind and colder temperatures. and for the sierra snow showers 1 to 2ft of snow this weekend, so we want to plan ahead if you are going to the sierra. we are going to see temperatures today in the upper 60s and san francisco. while we'll see some upper 70s for the south bay into the east bay as well as the north bay. but here's the rainmaker that's going to be coming in quickly, making its way closer to the bay area. and as it arrives mainly early saturday, we're seeing it first in the north bay, sweeping across the bay area and then quickly out of here by sunday. so even during that short time that it's here, it's going to

pack a punch and could bring anywhere from three quarters to an inch of rain for the north bay. we're also seeing those rainfall totals trending upward for the rest of the bay area and also more snow for the sierra. so if you're planning to travel there on saturday, well, you might want to wait until you can go on sunday or try to leave early tomorrow while the weather is still clear. but saturday is the day. that's pretty dicey, not only for the sierra, but also for the bay area. with a high of only 60 degrees. and mike, you're seeing some backups now forming. yeah, i mean, we know we're going to have it at the bay bridge. it's here. it started slowly. and just filling in these lanes from the middle out. typical pattern as folks leave oakland a little slowing also typical coming into richmond out of pinole and hercules. so upper east shore freeway, highway 37 holding steady there. highway four showing a little more build pittsburg bay point and into concord, but no drama for contra costa county. south bay. we do see the slowing as well. i want to point out. yeah, there was a

little bit there in hayward, just a tiny bit for the nimitz. north 101 does show the biggest slowdown for the north bay northbound direction of the south bay. and that's typical at this time of day. right on schedule as folks are leaving through the area that will ease up and then kick in once again. and we know it's going to kick in once again because there's more traffic building out of san martin and morgan hill. back to you. thanks mike. well, happening now, a walnut farm just south of the bay area is now being linked to a nationwide e coli warning. it comes after dozens of people here in california and washington state fell ill. gibson farms and hollister is now recalling organic light halves and pieces. shelled walnuts. the nuts are believed to be sold at several local stores, including new leaf and half moon bay, star grocery in berkeley and luke's local in san francisco. so far, seven people have been hospitalized and two others have developed a form of kidney failure symptoms are usually felt after 3 or 4 days. most people recover without treatment. well for many students headed to college today is the deadline to submit fafsa
