thank you so much for starting your weekend with us. i'm kira klapper cinthia pimentel has a quick look at our microclimate forecast. certainly windy earlier this morning. are we going to have to and a bit chilly too. it was just a struggle to get out of bed, but good for those people that are taking advantage of the path. this morning we're starting with that may gray again down here through the south bay, san jose. we're seeing it up into san francisco as well, and in through the north bay. also a foggy and cloudy start for our day up there in san rafael. we're starting off in the temperatures this morning. if you're finding yourself along the coast. also, maybe some drizzle by the time that we get into the lunchtime hour, some spots will are struggling to warm up. but then as we get on into the afternoon, our inland valleys in the 70s once again breezy. we're in that pattern and up until the coastline i can see the models staying with that cloud cover hugging the coast. so i'll walk you through the rest of this weekend forecast. there is so much going on, but for now, i'll send it back to you, kyra. all right. cynthia, thanks. we want to begin with a

heads up for anyone who needs to use interstate 680 in the east bay. this weekend. lanes are closed once again this weekend for that big repaving project. we have video of caltrans getting to work last night, closing several lanes of the very busy freeway. in fact, as of nine last night, here's a look at three southbound lanes and one northbound lane closed for about two miles from san ramon to pleasanton today in the bay's pizzaritos has more on when this pavement rehabilitation project and weekend closures will be done. the weekend commute through san ramon along 680 south will take longer than usual, with caltrans closing off three lanes as a part of its ongoing repavement work. of the much traveled freeway. and those who use it say it's much needed. but there's a lot of potholes that we do have to encounter, and it's a lot of risk for our tires and cars, right? it needs it, but it sure is taking a long time. the closure will impact a two mile stretch between el costa boulevard in san ramon and
7:03 am
the five 8680 interchange in pleasanton, ending before the monday morning commute. the previous closures this year, addressing repavement work on the freeway were further south along 680, reaching all the way to sunol. so what we're trying to do with these weekend closures is to limit the exposure for our workers, but also to accelerate this project to make sure that we're able to condense those over 100 days of work into just three days. over the weekend, caltrans officials expect the 680 south repaving project to be completed by 2026, which means drivers will have to pack their patience with more closures to come. the end result is what we're all hoping for to, you know, have a nice, smooth highway that's not throwing you from one lane to another. now, another closure will take place here at this same location at the end of may. but this closure, we should wrap up before that monday morning commute. pete serratos today in the bay. we turn now to a new alert from the state department for americans traveling internationally during the month of june. the warning says that lgbtq plus people and pride

events could be targeted by extremist groups. today in the bay's gia vang explains this on a friday night inside the cinch saloon, one of the oldest gay bars in san francisco is greg kirsch. well it's a shame that we have to go back in time. i mean, really, greg is talking about this worldwide alert that came down from the state department warning u.s. citizens traveling overseas to be careful, especially if at popular tourist venues and lgbtq events like pride. it cites the potential for terrorist attacks, demonstrations or violent actions. it also goes further, saying there could be more generalized attacks against u.s. citizens and interests. we immediately put it on our social media. we had members immediately asking if it was real, since it was, phrased in such a broad manner, because while the alert is for travelers overseas, many will be traveling to san francisco for pride. one of the largest lgbtq plus celebrations in the world, welcoming 1 million attendees for the festivities and parade. according to the group's
7:05 am
website. s.f. pride declined to speak to us tonight, but this is also connected to the warning the fbi and the department of homeland security put out earlier this week that foreign terrorist organizations could target pride month celebrations at home. we would like a plan to keep our community safe, to make sure that visitors coming to san francisco, especially since our city is reopening, our doors to tourists, that we keep our queer tourists, welcome and safe in the city. the mayor's office and sfpd didn't respond to a request for comment. but earlier this week, the police department said in response to the fbi and dhs warning it will be working with local, state and federal partners to ensure a safe pride. an event many in the saloon still can't wait to celebrate. i think san francisco will do just fine. you know, people here are very aware adversity will win overall and we're strong. let's just let let let's not let that, deprive our right to express who we are. gia vang today in the bay the man of convicted of

tonight, there will be a special fireworks show marking the anniversary, and here in the bay, the valkyries will be celebrating with their fans. the team is throwing a block party at thrive city outside of chase center to get fans excited for the very first wnba team to come to the bay area. the event will have appearances from e-40, kehlani, p-lo and other local bay area celebrities. space is limited. it's first come, first serve starts at two today. i should have worn purple today and lace up your running shoes. grab your best costume san jose san francisco, pardon me, is holding its annual bay to breakers race tomorrow. the seven mile course begins near the ferry building in the financial district and ends at ocean beach. we spoke with race coordinator kyle myers, who points out that runners have all kinds of ways to take part. we've got our elite race up front, our centipede division,
7:18 am
which is 13 runners tied together, new for this year, is the relay two person relay. and we also have the braided breakers bonus, which is an extra three k, on the great highway virtual. and then what's not on here is we also have a corporate teams, division as well. road closures have already begun, including by that finish line started yesterday out there on ocean beach closures near the starting line start at 7 p.m. tonight. so that's near the ferry building. related closures take effect at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. so how will the forecast be? time to check in with cinthia pimentel for a look at our microclimate forecast. i've. i've run bay to breakers twice. once it was really hot and once it was like it is today. i think it'll be kind of like today. people are used to it. that may gray through san francisco, but it doesn't really matter once you start walking and running, no matter what you're wearing or not. then it just, you know, i have never done the event goes on. but as
7:19 am
far as the, fireworks out in santa cruz, that's something that people want to know, right? a huge celebration, a milestone. but all through our camera networks, we are starting off with that may gray through san francisco. temperatures in the 50s. and as we go on into the summer, the term's that you're going to be hearing a lot of may gray june gloom, no sky july and fog. so just keep that in mind as we go on into the season. as far as those clouds pushing back, i do see the models hugging the coastline as we go on into this afternoon. from the north bay san francisco and down into santa cruz, while the rest of us see that clearing on inland. as far as the fireworks go for tonight and into tomorrow morning down into santa cruz, most of that cloud cover will be san francisco and south. so i'm sorry if that ruins the fireworks, but overall a good time out there, right? celebrating the giant dipper. more clearing, sunny and bright as we go on into our sunday. so our temperatures for today will be slightly cooler with that. with that cloud cover 60s out by the water, 70 as we go on into the bay shore in hayward at santa rosa, and a few upper 70s
7:20 am
as we make our way into livermore and down here in san jose at 78, as we go on into tomorrow, you'll feel more of that sunshine and a bit warmer temperatures will do 80 out in fairfield, upper 60s through san mateo, and we'll do 68 out there in santa cruz. here's what's really exciting. the wnba team in san francisco as we go on out towards chase center, it's going to get just slightly cooler and a mix of sun and clouds. but overall, a good time and all that dancing, all those artists. oh man, that makes me want to go out there. but how about for you foodies? i have an event for you out in pleasanton. the 626 night market runs today from 1 to 11. so all of your food needs for today could be covered out there. as we see temperatures in the 70s looking ahead into our long range pattern as we go on into the week, we're still going to be staying nice and dry here in the bay area. all of those systems are moving away from us, but here is where we start to get a little bit wobbly on the models as we go on into next week. this is what i'll be
7:21 am
watching for. maybe the hint of rain late season at that as we go on into next weekend, but overall, our forecast for the next seven days in san francisco. a lot of sun icons as we go on and temperatures cruising in the 60s. don't forget bay to breakers, all those road closures beginning at 8:00 tomorrow morning through the city lasting all day, and the celebration is anything continues in our inland valleys as well. 70 slightly warmer through tuesday and wednesday and a bit of that cooling as we go on into thursday, friday. so rinse and repeat pattern. we've been through this most of the week. yes we have. all right cynthia, thanks. just about 721. we have much more ahead for you on today in the bay coming up. anchors aweigh on the peninsula this weekend are kris sanchez has a preview of the pacific sail and power boat show, making a return to the bay. it's the $100,000 lucky lotus all cash giveaway at grayton resort and casino. saturday, may 25th. one winner of 50,000 cash plus 100 winners of $500 guaranteed the $100,000 lucky lotus all cash

7:25 am
stabilize it. it is just you can drive it with a joystick. it's fantastic. big, big engines that'll get you wherever you want to go. quickly and comfortably. and if you want to take a voyage back in time the next boat is the what you want. the 30 foot chris-craft express cruiser is fantastic. it looks like an olden boat from the days gone by, and it's just fantastic. it's a cruiser. you can go quickly wherever you want to go, and it's also very comfortable. it looks like george clooney should be on that boat. lake cuomo no question. the next one is was in the movie argyle. absolutely. it is a 33 foot fairline express cruiser again, v8 power. it is a british built. it is very similar to what an aston martin style would be with the upholstery and the and the design. it's just a lovely boat and it's a debut of this west coast as well. what shocked me is that you can sleep four on that one, but the one that i really like is the one that sleeps ten. the sailboat, the 44 foot catamaran is fantastic. it is even keeled so
7:26 am
you don't heel over like you might in a regular sailboat. and that's very enjoyable as well. but it it is comfort, comfort, comfort. world cruiser has all of the items electronics that you need to make a voyage across the ocean, and the next one is a really quiet ride because it's electric. it's a vita electric boat 26 foot. also a debut on the west coast. actually in the united states. there's two of them here, and we're going to be doing rides on those boats. if you come out to the show and if you are golden state warriors fan, then you know klay thompson loves his boat. and this boat is the one that he has. there's a 37 foot axle bar fabulous cruiser for the bay because you can have a sunroof open up. you can slide both side doors if it gets a little chilly you can close everything up again. deep v very comfortable boat. just really fun to ride around in. so this is a $2 million boat that we are on. but there are boats as low as $25,000, which, make no mistake, is a lot of money. but if you are trying to get your toes in the water, that might be a good option for you.
7:27 am

for their postal keys. there's no place, i think, that carriers feel safe anymore walking around delivering mail. the latest in palo alto on thursday before noon, police say a mail carrier in his 60s was delivering mail when two men demanded his postal keys in the parking lot of the southwood apartment complex. he handed them over, but then the suspects wanted his wallet and phone, too. the victim refused. the suspects knocked him to the ground and took off. well, it scares me, right? i'm a single mother as well, so it's really scary. and i'm from germany, so it's a different environment. yasmin lives in the apartment complex. it's actually, i feel very safe in palo alto, especially in this, apartment complex. so that's very weird feeling, even though it's like. and it's especially because it's during the day. right it's not at night. it's the second incident in palo alto in the last week. on saturday, palo alto police say they arrested two suspects for two robberies of mail carriers. one happened in belmont and the other on ilima court in palo alto, in which one of the suspects
7:37 am
pointed a gun at the mail carriers head while demanding his keys. the suspect in this photo is from sacramento. the other suspect is a juvenile, and these aren't the only incidents this month in oakland. a couple of weeks ago, video shows a mail carrier walking through a gate when she is approached, the suspects take the workers postal keys. the motivation to do these crimes is to get the keys to get something out of the mail, to do a financial crime. it just remind me i should check my post box because like, you're all all the information is there, right? so that's a very it doesn't feel safe. u.s. postal inspector matthew norfleet is asking anyone who notices their credit card or check is missing from the mail to let postal inspectors know. he adds that mail carriers are getting more security than before, but he also asks the public to call police if they see anything suspicious. norfleet also notes there are many open investigations regarding these crimes. a $150,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any suspects. almost no cases are solved without the assistance of the

three days over the weekend. another closure of 680 is scheduled for the end of this month, with additional closures of 680 in the remainder of the year, caltrans tells us. 680 south repaving will be complete by 2026, which means drivers will have to prepare for more closures. and highway 37 is once again cled in the north bay partially again this weekend for repaving work. but this is the final weekend, caltrans says things are going smoothly on that stretch of the highway between vallejo and sears point. crews are repaving the eastbound side of the ghway first. things will be back open by 5 a.m. monday morning. westbound 37s open, but next weekend it will be closed for repaving, while the eastbound direction will remain open. now to oakland , where former employees of a busy hotel say they are still waiting for their paychecks money they are owed for more
