see a high of 80 today 73 in oakland and upper 70s for much of the south bay. mike, you have a crash. you've been watching crash developing some slowing already. carrie, this is southbound 880 a street. now, we had a build already coming off of 238, but more focused around a street as i just got a report of the crash. not a lot of detail from chp. i'll get that over the next few minutes, but that will be a factor coming out of castro valley and then heading down to the san mateo bridge, where we see the sensors slow a bit, just a bit for the volume. there's also some slowing around the dumbarton bridge toll plaza, and i will check on that because we don't often see that lighter traffic flow. overall, a little bit lighter. we still have the slowing in san jose and of course in the east bay, especially the bay bridge toll plaza. back to you. all right. thank you very much. we do begin this morning with some breaking news in the east bay. sadly, one person is killed after a mobile home catches fire. we have a live look near the scene in pleasanton. the fire started around midnight along vineyard avenue, not too far from the

sanchez joining us from the campus this morning. and chris, you know, after something like this, it's really trying for those students heading back to school. do we know what they're going to be met with this morning? you know, i want to start by saying that the student who was stabbed is going to recover, is still in the hospital, and there will be counselors here on campus for any student or staff member who needs a little bit of support this morning. but some parents say that more than that, at this point, they should have metal detectors here at this school. that's the opinion of some parents. now, this happened yesterday afternoon as gilroy police tell us and christopher high police tell us two boys were in a fight in a school locker room when one of them pulled a knife and stabbed the other, a school resource officer was on campus and was there almost immediately. there was a blue code blue lockdown where everybody shelters in place and it lasted about an hour. while gilroy police investigated. it was all clearly traumatizing for students. and you just hear a

big commotion, and i just see a kid laying on the floor and bleeding out, and then everyone's just circling around, and then they they haul them off . now there are still two weeks left in the school year. so are a lot of extracurriculars are still happening. finals are still ahead. graduation isn't until june 6th, so the students have a lot of time to have to process what's happening ahead of them and then what happened yesterday. so if you have kids here at the school, just ask them how they're doing, see if they're okay in gilroy, kris sanchez. today in the bay. make sure you keep that dialog open there so the kids can talk. if they are having any issues. all right, chris, thanks for that update. developing right now. intense video out of mexico. this is the moment a stage collapse during a political campaign rally following strong winds. at least nine people are confirmed dead today in the

support and three of those injured required surgery. following a visit to a local hospital. martinez was among those taken to the hospital, but was said to be in good condition . now, as we mentioned, martinez is seen as a long shot in mexico's presidential race. currently in third. you see berkeley doctoral candidate claudia sheinbaum is currently seen as the frontrunner among likely voters if she or the challenger so chill galvez is selected, they would become the country's first female president. mexico's presidential race is scheduled to take place in just a little over a week. laura all right. thanks for all the details there. brie jackson live from washington. new at six. the owner of two now closed fishermans wharf restaurants is filing a new lawsuit against the city of san francisco. fisherman's grotto and tarantino's each closed in 2020. this is shortly after the start of the pandemic. while the port of san francisco evicted each business, alleging that the

complaint. many members of congress said the same during a recent congressional hearing. well, this is steve cramer. he was just indicted for making a deepfake of president biden that was played as a robocall in new hampshire, encouraging people not to vote in the primary and save their vote. instead, nbc news was one of the first to identify cramer behind the effort to help a different democratic candidate in the race, an outsider named dean phillips. the first company to identify how he did it was a firm called pindrop security. pindrop is used to figure out what voices are real, what's fake? pindrop is identification software also used in call centers, because companies like banks are reporting they're getting calls from deep fake voices trying to get into accounts. but how do you tell who's human the good guys are studying how people form words, and how hackers try to copy them with computers. the computers have a tell, for instance, the way a computer might say, hello

there. but once again let's talk about that wind. we are seeing the winds that are going to be picking up for the coastline, san francisco, parts of the north bay where we may see some of those gusts coast close to 40mph, possibly 45 by this evening. so it will be windy today in san francisco with that high up to 66 degrees. san mateo will see a high there of 68 and 73, in hayward as well as fremont, san jose in the upper 70s and the warmest spot will be fairfield, with a high of 82 degrees. as we take it into the day tomorrow, we are dropping it down another 5 to 7 degrees, maybe even cooler in some spots, with san francisco looking at a high of 62 degrees and upper 60s for the south bay. saturday also very cool for this time of year as we stay in the 60s. and speaking of cool, if you're going to the beach this weekend, as a lot of people do for the holiday weekend, monterey will only see highs in the mid 50s all throughout the weekend, and
6:23 am
we may not see much sunshine either. it's going to be foggy there as our temperatures pick up and transport that cool air to the inland areas. our highs will only be in the upper 60s on saturday mid 70s for sunday, and then looking a lot more seasonable for memorial day through the middle of next week. we'll be watching that for you and mike. you're updating that crash along the nimitz. yeah we don't have any major injuries. that's the first big good news. and we also have the crash over on the shoulder. that's why we see a smooth throughput right here from out of san lorenzo, san leandro and down in toward hayward and highway 92. so traffic smoothing out, but still building as far as the volume goes. the crash again on the shoulder, if at all, around a street other side of the bay. we do have an incident over on highway one. not really restricting traffic flow, but just keep that in mind as you're traveling along the coast and a smooth drive up and down the peninsula into the south bay, the east bay has your typical patterns but lighter traffic flow. it seems back to you. thank you mike. well, a planned attack foiled in france. up next

joining us live from the scene in pleasanton. and, bob, i mean, just looking at that house behind, behind you. do we know what happened here? we don't know the cause yet, but we have an idea of what transpired after this fire started. i spoke with the battalion chief at the livermore pleasanton fire department, who tells us that when they arrived on the scene, they did try to save the life of the elderly man who lived inside this mobile home. but unfortunately, the fire flashed over when they went inside. and the captain, who was trying to reach the man, had to get out of the structure for his own safety. fire started just before midnight. this is a home here. it's a double wide single story in the hacienda mobile home park on vineyard avenue in pleasanton. when firefighters arrived, the home was already fully involved. the wife, she got out on her own. she was obviously very upset about the fact that her husband was still inside. the bbc tells us that she actually wanted to go back, try to go back inside and try to save him, but they obviously held her back, which again, the fire department tried to do.
6:34 am
they did go in but could not get to the man in time we made an aggressive attack. we could see that there was a the smoke was hot. it was filling up the building, but we risk a lot to save a lot, and the first thing, captain, as soon as he came in, felt a lot of heat through his turnouts and his protective equipment. but he decided to continue to make that push in as far as he could until the conditions deteriorated on him. and then removed his crew to safety. and, we took the actions that we had to take for, for our for our own safety and the crew safety. again, that person, an elderly man, according to the fire department, sadly did not make it. his wife was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. the livermore, livermore, pleasanton fire department, as you can see behind me, they're still on scene. they're waiting for the sunlight, which we're starting to get. they need the sun one so they can have the corner come out to remove the man and chu so they can get their own investigator on the scene to try to figure out what

forecasted to be the busiest day of travel heading into this memorial day weekend. since the last time that we saw you guys, it's gotten a tad bit busier here at the security checkpoint. these lines definitely were not around in the last hour, but those wait times still looking manageable. we're seeing five minutes and seven minutes whether or not you have clear or tsa precheck and their normal security lines, but tsa triple a rather is forecasting today to be pretty busy. they say this year's numbers are inching closer to a 2005 record of 44 million travelers, and the forecast for this year is just shy of that, with 43.8 million travelers, over 38 million people are traveling by car. that is the most road trips triple a says it's ever seen, and 3.5 million people are traveling by air, both of those numbers are up 4% since last year, according to a triple a spokesperson. there is a surprise new category of travel
6:38 am
that's quite popular. these days. cruises have been gangbusters as she put it, since the pandemic. that was the industry to last come back online and it has just exploded since then. here is triple a's triple a's spokesperson giving her thoughts on why travel is still growing. two things there one. prices are not much higher than last year, so we're not paying much more for flights, hotels and car rentals. in fact, it really obviously depends where you're going for flights. but if you're willing to fly basic economy and maybe have a layover, you might be able to score a pretty cheap flight, especially if you book a for a flight. that leaves tuesday or wednesday. those are the cheaper days. and that busy travel may also involve some delays, especially if you are planning on traveling to tahoe this weekend. caltrans warning bay area travelers to be wary of delays on interstate 80 because of emergency construction starting in colfax and extending
6:39 am
to the nevada state line. now, caltrans plans to pause construction starting friday afternoon, tomorrow afternoon and running through monday. but if you are planning on getting a head start today, some of those projects may add 30 to 40 minutes to your drive time, so be aware of that. now back out here at sfo you see and you typically see this sometimes right. the lines fluctuate but they are still manageable. these wait times. now we did speak to a young man here at the airport. it's a good reminder. his experience. he got here 50 minutes before his flight when he says i should have gotten here an hour. his flight ended up getting. he ended up not making it to his flight and now, instead of leaving for a trip to cancun, he is now delayed until 11 p.m. tonight. so just a nice reminder. try to get here as early as you can, especially on a busy day like today guys. oh what a way to kick off the holiday weekend. i know that is a good lesson. yeah, to allow some extra time. two hours. all
6:40 am
right, all right. thanks so much ginger. all right. so let's talk about that i mean, the conditions out there for a lot of people flying weather wise should be okay. yeah. but you know there's always that ripple effect where if there are storms somewhere else that delays the flights going somewhere else, that's what we're seeing in the northeast right now. there's quite a few storms that are moving through new york and also for the east coast. and we're also seeing some moving across the south. so right now, look at that. new york is seeing 90 minute delays as well as newark. and then we're seeing 30 minute delays for boston. and so that may affect some of the other flights moving across the country and coming into some of the other airports. you want to keep it right here because we have a lot going on in the bay area with bottlerock and napa valley this weekend. we are going to see some beautiful weather. temperatures in the low 70s for a high tomorrow. cooling down to the upper 40s. so be prepared for all of the changes in the temperature that we'll see throughout the weekend. and we'll also have foodie land

happening at the cow palace tomorrow evening. it's going to be windy and cool out there. temperatures only in the mid to upper 50s. and then if you're looking for something to do with the family, the rail fair at the ardenwood farm in fremont, that's going to be going on saturday and sunday. we're looking at highs in the mid 60s there. so sunglasses, a light jacket, you'll be comfortable throughout the day. and we also have carnaval happening in san francisco. take a look at these temperatures. staying in the 50s in the city throughout the weekend at least we will at times get some sunshine. but do expect the clouds and the fog the closer you are to the coastline. so we'll be watching all of that for you. mike. is the commute any lighter today? you know it's a little bit lighter, carry a bit of the patterns are pretty typical. so we do see the slowing where we expect. i would say if you're driving to work this morning for your early commute, as we are talking about, just plan on your typical drive. also atypical, just like yesterday and tomorrow, right around zjsu, we're going to see graduation ceremonies throughout the day,
6:42 am
so that will mean folks coming in and then leaving. there's a crossover. this is sdsu, the campus off of 280 and 87. so watch for seventh, 10th. all those exits getting over in toward the san jose state area. and from there as well, we're looking over toward a midday game. so i just call it out because some folks may be trying to leave the area midday to get away for the holiday starting today. perhaps that will be more congestion around oakland and then a smooth drive around the rest of the bay with later in the day more traffic back to you. thanks, mike. 641 right now, after record breaking snow, it all has to melt away up next, the chilly changes you can expect in lake tahoe this holiday weekend. the ukrainian president wants to change the rules on how american weapons are used. what are you waiting for? he asks

allow ukraine to use american weapons to hit russian forces in russia. and right now, scott mcgrew, they're limiting to hitting targets just inside of ukraine. those are the rules we have set. so if they're going to shoot down a russian airplane with a patriot battery, that plane's got to be inside russian or ukrainian airspace. if they're going to use a himars rocket that we make to take out a russian tank, that tank has got to be inside ukraine. president biden sees this as a way of preventing the war from expanding or provoking a nuclear reaction from the kremlin, but ukraine is by many measures,

. this is another headache for chief justice john roberts, who's watched the american trust of the supreme court plunged to historic lows. former republican candidate for president nikki haley, who once said donald trump was unhinged and unqualified, says she's going to vote for donald trump. trump has not been perfect on these policies. i have made that clear. many, many times. but biden has been a catastrophe, so i will be voting for trump. having said that, i stand by what i said in my suspension speech. trump would be smart to reach out to the millions of people who voted for me and continued to support me and not assume that they're just going to be with him. and i genuinely hope he does that. we went back, watched the suspension speech. the only thing she said about

memorial day weekend is looking like may gray and drizzle, and probably not the best beach weekend before we get there. we still have commencement ceremonies going on at sdsu. we'll see temperatures in the morning right at about 64 degrees and going throughout the day. it continues to be sunny with highs in the mid 70s. we're going to see a high of 77 in san jose and los gatos, mountain view, 73 and 80 in concord, livermore today is looking at a high of 75 degrees and we'll see a high of 80 today in santa rosa, while san francisco stays in the mid 60s. if you've been looking at that 7-day forecast at the bottom of the screen, you see that it gets even cooler as we get closer to saturday. that's our coolest day. so tomorrow we're looking at a high of 71 in concord, 66 in oakland, and half moon bay will only be 59 degrees. really chilly there. and we also have the early afternoon game for the a's. there's so much going on this weekend and we're going to see some beautiful weather out there

during the middle of the afternoon as our highs head for the low 70s. and then tomorrow night we've got the bay fc game that's going to start out with some cooler temperatures than what we'll see today. low 60s dropping back to the upper 50s. and it's still going to be windy. and if you are planning to head to the beach you want to bring a jacket, the blanket, all of the stuff to keep you warm because it's not only going to be cool, but it's also going to be very windy. we're talking gusts to 40mph with monterey's high temperatures only in the mid 50s. santa cruz not much better with a high of 64 on saturday afternoon. around the bay area, we're looking at some milder temperatures for today and tomorrow, but then once we get to saturday this is going to be quite a bit below our typical high temperature of 67 degrees. we're used to seeing some mid to upper 70s this time of year, but we'll be there as those temperatures rebound into memorial day and upper 50s in san francisco for saturday and sunday. mike, you're seeing some traffic building in san jose.
6:53 am
yeah, but it's not because of the traffic volume. although there is an increase a bit. we're looking over here north to 80 really suddenly slowing. i hear about a roadside fire and there may be a crew on scene. so i'm going to say the slow lane is blocked as you travel up toward and past highway 17 for northbound to 8101 does show a pretty typical pattern in 87, a little slowing and 85 a little slowing. again a lighter volume, just a bit lighter. i think a lot of folks are getting ready to perhaps get on some vacation weekends here. 80 bills, and so does the drive across san mateo bridge, right on pattern 680. also a bit more slowing through sunol no surprises, although suddenly more slowing through walnut creek and lafayette, back to you. all right. thank you very much, mike. well, happening now, the power back on this morning at uc berkeley, a large part of campus was sentenced to darkness about 630 last night. university says about 47 buildings were impacted by that outage. backup lights kicked on when the power went off. uc berkeley posted a message on its
